もとの窒素分子N₂、酸素分子O₂は写真のように原子間で共有結合してますね？

そして、それぞれの原子が8個の電子を持つことができます☆

つまり、オクテット構造をとるので安定しています。

(赤点はNの電子、黒点はOの電子)

しかしNOはどうでしょうか？

Oが電子8個持つように共有結合させると、Nは7個しか電子を持てません。(平衡状態の左)

Nが電子8個持つように共有結合させても、Oは9個も持つことになります。(平衡状態の右)

どちらにしろ全ての原子がオクテット構造をとることができないので、もとの単体と比べたら確実に不安定☆

よってNOの生成熱はマイナスになります☆
