Adam Ant house raided at dawn over 'illegal immigrant'' friend

Pop legend Adam Ant’s home was raided at dawn yesterday by immigration police.

A 36-year-old woman, who lived with the 80s icon, was arrested by officers and taken into custody. Immigration officials believe she is a Japanese national who has overstayed her visa.

Up to 10 officers from the UK Border police arrived at the flat at around 6.40am yesterday. Officers lined the small stairway ready for the dawn swoop, and were let in almost immediately.

A small dog – reportedly called Elvis – sprinted out and jumped over the officers before disappearing back inside the property.

It is believed that Adam, 57, was quizzed by officers inside the flat.

After 40 minutes a woman emerged, smoking a cigarette, flanked by six officers. She was escorted down the road and put inside a van before being driven away for further questioning. She was still in custody last night.

It is understood that UK Border police want to deport the woman after she is suspected to have overstayed her visa permit to live in the country.

Other friends who left Adam’s flat yesterday refused to comment on the nature of his relationship with the woman.

But one who went into the apartment yesterday said that Adam was “just fine”.

A neighbour revealed how there were constant “comings and goings” at the pop star’s home in South Kensington, West London.

The neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: “People are in and out of that house all day, every day. God knows who they all are. There’s all sorts who visit. It’s like a constant stream of visitors.

“I don’t really know him and he doesn’t mix with his neighbours from what I’ve seen.”

Adam Ant’s lawyer Dean Dunham said last night: “This lady is one of Adam’s friends.

“She is co-operating fully with the authorities. She had attempted to make the correct applications to extend her visa but the authorities had been dealing with the wrong address.”

Adam Ant – real name Stuart Goddard – shot to fame in the 80s with a string of massive worldwide hits including Antmusic, Stand and Deliver and Goody Two Shoes.

He was well-known for his flamboyant “dandy highwayman” fashion sense and was voted the Sexiest Man in America by MTV viewers in 1983.

However, the twice-married star has been plagued with mental health problems. His bi-polar condition forced him to abandon touring for 25 years until a comeback last year.

His latest tour – with new band The Good, The Mad And The Lovely Posse – kicks off in Halifax on Thursday.

A UK Border Agency spokesman said last night: “A 36-year-old Japanese national was arrested for immigration offences at an address in the Knightsbridge area and is now detained, pending her removal from the UK.

“Our officers carry out hundreds of operations like this every year across London, and where we find people who are in the UK illegally we will seek to remove them.”

Adam Ant’s promised February US tour has been put back to the autumn due to the delayed release of his ‘Blueblack Hussar in Marrying the Gunner’s Daughter’ album

The album will now be released in the autumn and there is a UK tour getting booked to coincide as well.

We here at LTW have heard the album last year and it sounds great, it does exist and the there are lots of songs, one of them ‘Vince Taylor’ was played on the recent UK tour. There were so many good songs on the album that we can’t remember them all. It sounded tough and heavy with some songs being twangy and classic Ants and some like an almost industrial heavy Ants – it’s going to be worth the wait.

A post on his website reads, “Due to circumstances beyond the control of Adam Ant, his band and his representation, the release of Adam’s new album has been delayed resulting in the re-scheduling of his February USA tour dates. All advance purchased tickets will remain valid.

“Adam Ant and all those involved with the tour are disappointed with the delay and apologise to the many of you that have purchased tickets in advance, however he greatly looks forward to bringing an amazing show to you all on the revised dates.”

ビーディ・アイを率いて現在イギリス・ツアー中のリアム・ギャラガーが楽曲の使用をめぐってアダム・アントと対立していることが取り沙汰されているが、ギターのアンディ・ベルはリアムは直接この1件に関わっていないのでリアムを責めるのはお門違いだと語っている。

新作『Adam Ant is the Blueblack Hussar in Marrying the Gunner's Daughter』を制作中のアダムはアルバムにアンディがベースを担当しているトラック“Cool Zombie”を収録しようとしていたところ、リアムに妨害されていると各所で語っていて、「自分とリアムとの間の問題なんだから、男としてサシで話し合いたい」と発言していた。

これに対してリアムが先頃NMEとのインタヴューでアダムについて訊かれて「頭のおかしいやつ」と発言。ただ、アダムがもともと双極性障害を患っていて精神病患者のスポークスマン的な発言も繰り返しているため、リアムはイギリスのさまざまな精神疾患支援団体から大きな批判を受けている。

こうした状況を受けて、アンディは声明文を発表し、もともとトラックを差し止めてアダムのアルバムに使わせないように決めたのは自分なのに、今回のやり取りでリアムが引きずり込まれたのはやり口が汚いと説明している。

アンディは次のように説明している。

「ぼくはアダム・アントに会ったこともなければ一緒に仕事をしたこともありません。ただ共通の友人がいてその友人とトラックを1本制作したところ、その友人がトラックをぼくの知らないうちにアダムに渡していたのです」

「ぼくはその後、このトラックはアルバムで使わないようにと伝え（そもそもラフなデモ音源だし）、それで片がついたものだと思っていました。ところが、それをアダムは自分がオアシスのメンバーの1人とトラックを作ったのにリアム・ギャラガーがそれを妨害しているとメディアで触れ回り始めたのです」

「リアムはこの1件が起きるまで、ぼくとアダム・アントの間の間接的な繋がりについては知りもしなかったし、アダム・アントには会ったこともありませんし、問題のトラック自体も聴いたことがありません」

「このトラックを使わせないようにしたのはぼくの判断であって、それをなんの関係もないリアムがこういう形で引きずり込まれていることに非常に腹が立っています」

NMEの記事でリアムは80年代に大きな人気を誇ったアダムのファンだったことはあるのか訊かれてこう答えていた。「メイクをするような野郎は好きじゃないんでね。特に頭のおかしいやつはなおさらだよ。だから、こう言っとけよ、『頭のおかしいやつなんざ、てめーだけじゃねえんだよ。やるんならやるぞ、いつでも来いよ、このカウボーイ野郎』ってな」。

79年にデビューし、そのイメージなどがニューロマンティックスの先駆けとなったアダム・アントが15年ぶりの新作にとりかかっていて、元オアシスのメンバーが制作に関わっていると本人がNMEに語った。

タイトルは『Adam Ant Is The Blueblack Hussar in Marrying The Gunner's Daughter』というもので、元スリー・カラーズ・レッドのクリス・マコーマックや長年のソングライター・パートナーであるマルコ・ピローニなどが参加している。タイトルは「アダム・アントは狙撃手の娘と結婚するにあたってブルーブラックの騎兵になる」とでもいうような、相変わらずの思わせぶりなもの。

さらに「ある曲はオアシスのメンバーをフィーチャリングしているよ」とアダムは語っている。また、モリッシーのソングライティング・パートナーであるボズ・ブアラーも参加しているそうだ。

アダムによればアルバムは基本的に「パフォーマンスによるところが大きい、ライブ感の強いレコードだ」としていて、「なんとなくコンセプトもあるかな。とても古風で、オールド・スクールで、地道に作っていったレコードなんだよ」。

また、アダム・アンド・ジ・アンツとして79年にデビューした際にマネージャーを務めたマルコム・マクラレンに捧げた曲も収録するつもりだという。

“Who’s a Goofy Bunny Then?”というその曲、80年代初期のデモ音源なのだが、マルコムへの追悼として収録したいのだという。

「マルコムはある意味でぼくの人生を切り開いてくれた人だったんだ」とアダム。「限りなく代理父に近い存在だったかな」。

タイトルはアントがマルコムの愛称として「グーフィ・バニー」と呼んでいたことにちなんでいて、「マルコムの前歯が目立ってた」からそう呼んでいたのだとか。

その一方でアダムはキャリアの初期に録ったデモ音源がまだ「わんさか」あって、聴き直していずれちゃんとレコーディングしたいとも語っている。

「4トラックで作った音源がまだ100本近くはあって、いつでも好きなように使えるものなんだよ」とアダム。「『ダーク・ウェアズ・ホワイト・ソックス』（79年のデビュー作）の前にだって結局リリースされなかったアルバムが1枚あるわけだし。だけど、まだマスターも持ってるんだよね。だから、やっぱり愛情からこういう面倒なことをやってカタログを整理しているんだよ。これを捨ててしまったら、ジョン・レノンとポール・マッカートニーがリバプールのパブで勢いで書いちゃった曲を捨てるようなもんだと思うよ。やっぱり自分の作品を整理するのはそのアーティストの義務だと思うな

クラクソンズ、アダム・アントのドキュメンタリーを制作　2011-04-08

クラクソンズのジェイミー・レイノルズ（Vo/B）が、アダム・アントのツアーおよびアルバムのレコーディングを追ったドキュメンタリーを制作するという。80年代にニュー・ウェイヴのバンド、アダム＆ジ・アンツのフロントマンとして活躍したアダムは、5月に15年ぶりとなるUKツアーを行なう。

ジェイミーは『Daily Star』紙にこう話している。「アダム・アントのプロジェクトは、俺にとって映画ビジネスでの最初の一歩となる。これまで映画なんか作ったことないけど、やりたいと思っていたんだ。（これを機に）もっとやるかもしれない」

ジェイミーは現在のところ、自らが投資しプロデューサーとしての役目を果たしているが、制作が進むにつれ、もっと関与していく予定だという。

クラクソンズ関連ニュースとして、ヴォーカル/シンセサイザーのジェイムス・ライトンは最近、『パイレーツ・オブ・カリビアン』シリーズ、『プライドと偏見』の女優キーラ・ナイトレイと噂になっている。2人は、アークティック・モンキーズのフロントマン、アレックス・ターナーのガールフレンドであるアレクサ・チャンを介し、知り合ったといわれる。
