Jeremy Lin sparks Knicks three-game surge, is f

Jeremy Lin sparks Knicks three-game surge, is fast becoming fan favorite

beats by dre Jonathan Newton/The Washington Post - WASHINGTON, DC February 8: New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin (17) sails in for a dunk against the Washington Wizards on February 8, 2012 in Washington, DC (Photo by Jonathan Newton/The Washington Post) The New York Knicks seem to have found a new weapon in Jeremy Lin, the second year Harvard alum who has emerged in the last three games as a much needed spark in the Knicks backcourt. As Matt Brooks reported:

dre beats A homemade sign at last night’s Knicks-Wizards game announced New York point guard Jeremy Lin as “The Next Big Thing.” inShare..That may be the best way to describe the undrafted second-year player from Harvard who has taken the NBA by storm in a matter of days. Two nights after scoring a career-high 28 points in his first ever start, Lin outdueled last year’s top pick, John Wall, with a 23-point, 10-assist performance in New York’s 107-93 win.

beats by dr dre The kids are calling it “Linsanity,” and for a Knicks team that has now won three straight after a miserable 2-11 stretch, Lin arrived at just the right time. Without top stars Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire in the lineup, Lin has taken over the team’s last three games — and the crowd. In his second career start in D.C. against the Wizards, at times it seemed his play was more exciting to the fans than the home team’s efforts. As Michael Lee reported: When the Wizards get trounced at home, the fans at Verizon Center usually to hit the exits early or send them to the locker room to a chorus of boos. But after the Wizards’ disconcerting 107-93 loss on Wednesday against the undermanned New York Knicks, most of the 17,376 fans in attendance stuck around, stood up and applauded — Jeremy and the Knicks.

cheap beats by dre It was a troubling scene for the woeful Wizards, who haven’t given their fans much to rally behind and allowed their home arena to morph into Madison Square Garden South. The Wizards are used to feeling like guests when the Los Angeles Lakers, Boston, Chicago and now Miami Heat come to town. But even as Kobe Bryant and Derrick Rose have heard “MVP!” chants, nothing compared to the reaction of the audience with the Knicks — and especially, everybody’s favorite underdog, Lin — in town.

beats by dre studio You’d think fans would be upset that Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire were gone and want a refund for their tickets. Instead, they only booed when Lin picked up his second foul in the first quarter and was forced to head to the bench with his second foul. Other than that, the Wizards were simply a distraction until the next Lin layup or high-rising bank shot, Tyson Chandler dunk or Steve Novak three-pointer.

beats solo “When you play against certain teams, you know the crowd is against you sometimes,” John Wall said after scoring a game-high 29 points on a night when it seemed only he and Trevor Booker came ready to compete for the Wizards. For the Knicks, who are battling injuries and a less than stellar opening to the shortened season, Lin’s contributions are a welcome respite and a cause for optimism. As Michael Lee explained: Carmelo Anthony, in civilian clothes and wearing a backward baseball cap, smiled and applauded as the final seconds ticked down on the New York Knicks’ unlikely and spirited win on Monday over the Utah Jazz. Anthony then called his teammates together at center court for some hugs and a huddle.
