Reza Pahlavi said Thursday that his Paris-based collective, the Iranian National Council, brings together tens of thousands of pro-democracy proponents from both inside and outside Iran.

He said the council "is calling for a major boycott" of Iran's June 14 elections but that "is not enough."

"The regime once again is going to put on another show, another circus," Pahlavi said in an interview. "This is an opportunity ... to challenge a system that, if they were to refuse such a request, leaves us no choice but to organize a campaign of civil disobedience to ultimately force this regime to collapse."

Iran's 2009 presidential vote, which gave President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad a second term, was criticized for widespread fraud and led to major protests that were brutally repressed. The protests were the worst since the 1979 Islamic revolution that brought down Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi, whose family has since lived in exile, along with millions of other Iranians. The toppled shah died of cancer in Egypt a year after fleeing.

The main contenders in the upcoming vote appear to be former Foreign Minister Ali Velayati and former nuclear negotiator Hasan Rowhani as well as Tehran Mayor Mohammad Qalibaf and, possibly, former reformist President Mohammad Khatami.

Pahlavi, 52, and the council want to hold Iran to international standards of fair elections.

The Iranian National Council elected Pahlavi as its spokesman at its first congress last weekend. The group's political bureau appears to represent a variety of Iran's exiled opposition, and Pahlavi insisted it is not a vehicle to promote a particular political cause.

"We're not here to debate a form of regime. That's not our job," he said, adding that his organization transcends party politics and stands for a secular regime.

"We demand our right to have free elections in Iran, and so this council has the responsibility to help orchestrate this campaign, with the help of our activists at home and the support of the diaspora abroad," he said.

It is impossible to measure the impact of regime opponents, especially those living in exile. Pahlavi, who moves between the Washington area and Paris, claims the council grew out of the contacts inside Iran of various members like himself. The group says half of the 20,000-plus people who signed its charter via the Internet are inside Iran.

Pahlavi called on the international community to add its voice to the campaign for free elections, which he said should include international observers.

External pressure can change the dynamics of a nation, he said, decrying what he said was a lack of dialogue with representatives of Iran's exile community.

He said world powers today are mainly focusing on suspicions that Tehran secretly worked on atomic arms a charge Iran denies. For Pahlavi, the world is seeking a "change of behavior" by Iran, while he and other regime opponents are seeking a new, democratic Iran.

"If you don't engage this time with democratic forces, how can you expect them, with no defenses ... to stand up to this Goliath?" he asked.

The view may look bright at the top GOP echelon, but that does not appear to be the attitude of the rank and file. If anything, there is deep unease among activist conservativesthe sort who trudge to the polls in the bitter winters of Iowa and New Hampshireabout the state of the race. At several recent functions in Washington, attendees expressed great enthusiasm for unseating Obama, but hardly anyone was thrilled with their likely standard bearers.

Is it time for the GOP to start panicking yet?

Cains tortured and contradictory response to sexual-harassment allegations was made even worse by the reckless, not-ready-for-prime-time effort at deflection. Rick Perry was behind this! No, it was Rahm Emanuel! No, it was a massive media conspiracy! No, it was Professor Plum with the lead pipe in the billiards room. That Cain remains floating atop the GOP field is less a tribute to his staying power than a cruel indictment of the remaining field of frivolous flops. When you cannot lure voters away from a man who is accused of several counts of disreputable behavior and who seems to lack an understanding of many basic issues, fromto , youve got yourself a problem.

As for Romney, he has finally started to outline some specifics to his proposals, most notably courageous plans to . But even this effort posed an interesting problem for him. If another candidate had talked freely about raising the retirement age for Medicare and Social Security and turning Medicaid into block grants, there might have been a larger outcry. With Romney, there really wasnt. Even the media seem to have decided that nothing the risk-averse, milquetoast Romney says really has anything to do with his presidency. All his ideas feel like consultant-fed pablum free to be ignored the minute the polls turn. When 72 percent of Romneys own voters say they could easily , youve got a problem.

Which means the GOP nominating process may yet take some surprising turns. Overall, about half of Republicans surveyed in a recent Washington PostABC News poll said they may yet change their allegiance in the race. That feels about right. In fact, the number may even grow higher as voters continue to shop for the least unacceptable of the lot.

Of the main contenders, only Perry and Newt Gingrich have demonstrated any signs of resurgence. Since the GOP debates commenced, Gingrich has steadily crept back into double digits in most polls, based on something surprising: ideas. He has little money, he has few ground troops, he has unleashed no attack ads, but he has answered questions clearly, forthrightly, and knowledgeably. And it is not inconceivable that otherseven a Bachmann or a Santorum or a Huntsmanmay finally find their day in the sun.

This year feels very different, as if anything could happen. Who knows: if an establishment favorite like Romney falters early, it is always possible that an entirely new candidate might yet decide to jump into the contest. Hoover, FDR, Kennedy, Nixon, and LBJ each won presidential primaries as write-in candidates. If things continue to be so unsettled, its not impossible that someone may decide to repeat that feat in 2012. Just dont anybody give that idea to Donald Trump.

That's why the fall-winter 2013-14 show saw the Belgian designer explore his usual menswear-womenswear tailoring via the frivolity of ballroom dancing, feathers and the dancing two-some Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.

Wednesday's show was proof again of Van Noten's mastery when it comes to the art of clashing styles.

"I started from the menswear pants, and then the opposite is ballroom dancing ... big feathers," he said backstage at Paris' grand Hotel de Ville. "Fashion is so serious, so the hints of the Fred and Ginger story were fun."

Who better to represent the Van Noten universe, where men's and women's styles merge together, than one of the most iconic and inseparable male-female couple in Hollywood history?

Ostrich feathers in midnight blue, faded gray and tea rose billowed like 1930s boas with large vivid embroideries, vintage fur alongside men's baggy pants, club stripes and Prince of Wales check.

Some of the feathered fringing floated past wistfully, only to be reined in by the humorous juxtaposition of a menswear cut.

One fantastic look said it all: a sumptuous navy feathered skirt (Ginger), and a large tuxedo shirt (Fred.)

In Van Noten's world, like in Hollywood, there's no man without the woman, no Ginger without Fred.

JUBA (Reuters) - South Sudan's President Salva Kiir will visit Sudan this month to witness with his counterpart Omar Hassan al-Bashir the first shipment of oil from the south after a 15-month shutdown, an official said on Friday.

In March, the African neighbors agreed to resume oil exports from landlocked South Sudan through Sudan and defuse tension that has plagued them since South Sudan seceded in 2011.

Kiir's planned trip signals a further thaw in relations following a landmark visit by Bashir to Juba in April, his first since the south gained independence in July 2011 under a 2005 peace deal ending decades of civil war.

South Sudan resumed oil production last month, although industry analysts say it may take at least a month for the oil to reach the export terminal at Port Sudan, on the Red Sea.

Kiir will visit both Khartoum and Port Sudan, said Barnaba Marial Benjamin, South Sudan's government spokesman.

"When (the oil) has reached Port Sudan, that is when the two presidents will go to see the first oil come out of the pipeline, within May probably," Benjamin told Reuters.

There was no immediate comment from Sudan but local newspapers have reported that Kiir will come in May.

Prior to the shutdown, South Sudan produced at least 300,000 barrels per day, but observers say it may take at least a year to regain such levels.

Damage caused by cross-border skirmishes a year ago means South Sudan can only gradually ramp up production in its Unity State oil fields, which is mixed to produce Nile Blend, a light, sweet, waxy crude.

In the coming days, South Sudan plans to reopen its oil fields in Upper Nile State, which produce Dar Blend, a heavy, sour crude.

Industry experts say Dar Blend production will start at around 50,000 barrels per day, quickly rising to at least 150,000 bpd, while Nile Blend is likely to remain at around 30,000-40,000 bpd for at least six months.

It's been 15 years sincetook America by storm, quickly securing its place as one of the best-selling prescription drugs of all time.

"Viagra was a game-changer," said Dr. Ryan Terlecki, assistant professor of urology at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C., recalling the not-so-distant days of injectable drugs andfor erectile dysfunction. "It totally revolutionized men's sexual health, and men's health overall."

The little blue pill was originally developed to treat angina and pulmonary hypertension -- diseases that cause tightness in the chest and shortness of breath.

"These guys started breathing better, but they said to their doctors, 'You'll never guess what else happened to me,'" Terlecki said.

In the 15 years since, Viagra has been tested in , proving successful in some of the most dismal.

"Viagra is truly unique in the multitude of applications being explored, especially 15 years out," said Terlecki. "It's one of those things that people wonder if we should be putting it in the water."

Revis arrived in Tampa on Sunday hours after a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press that the Jets granted their star cornerback permission to take a physical and negotiate a contract with the Buccaneers signaling a trade is imminent.

The source spoke on condition of anonymity because the teams have not spoken publicly about the potential deal.

Revis left New Jersey Sunday morning and arrived by private Jet in Tampa at about 2:30 EDT.

Trade rumors have been swirling for months involving Revis, with the Buccaneers thought all along to be the most serious suitor. New Jets general manager John Idzik is expected to want several high draft picks in any deal for Revis.

Coach Rex Ryan's Jets currently have the ninth overall pick in the draft that starts Thursday, while the Buccaneers have the No. 13 pick a selection that could potentially be included for Revis.

It was not clear if the sides have already agreed to compensation for a trade, but the fact the Jets allowed Revis to meet with the Buccaneers means they could have the framework of a deal in place. A trade would leave Antonio Cromartie as the team's top cornerback, a role he flourished in last season with Revis sidelined by a knee injury. And 2010 first-rounder Kyle Wilson mostly likely would be stepping in as the other starter.

The Jets could also target a cornerback perhaps Alabama's Dee Milliner or Florida State's Xavier Rhodes in the first round of Thursday night's draft.

For the Bucs, adding Revis would improve a secondary that already includes cornerback Eric Wright and safeties Mark Barron and recently signed Dashon Goldson. Tampa Bay finished last in pass defense last season.

The 27-year-old Revis is entering the last season of his four-year contract signed in 2010, but is looking for a big payday that would make him one of the highest-paid defensive players in the league. A clause in that deal prevents the Jets from using the franchise or transition tag on him next year, so if he remains unsigned, he would become a free agent in 2014.

As the Jets weighed whether to try to sign him to a contract extension, lose him to free agency next offseason or deal him for high draft picks, Revis has been the subject of rampant trade rumors since last season ended.

Complicating things has been the fact Revis is coming off a serious injury. Revis tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee last September against Miami, and underwent surgery the next month. He has been rehabbing since, and has indicated in interviews that he fully expects to be ready for the start of the regular season.

Revis reported Monday for the first day of the team's voluntary offseason conditioning program, a few hours after having an MRI exam with Dr. Russell Warren, the Giants' team orthopedist, at a hospital in Manhattan. The exam results were positive, and ESPN New York reported that Revis was cleared by Warren to begin running without restrictions.

Revis and Idzik also met and had what the general manager called "a nice talk."

Revis had been rehabilitating in Arizona, and would have preferred to return there, but was staying in New Jersey because his contract includes a clause for three $1 million bonuses that are tied together, including a workout bonus.

In an interesting twist, if a trade is made, Revis and the Jets would see each other again in Week 1 of the regular season as New York hosts Tampa Bay.

It would also be the first significant trade pulled off by Idzik, who is reshaping New York's roster after a 6-10 season and this move likely wouldn't sit well with many of the team's fans.

Revis was New York's first-round pick in 2007 after then-GM Mike Tannenbaum traded up to No. 14 to draft the former University of Pittsburgh star. Revis quickly established a reputation on the field as a shutdown cornerback, routinely holding wide receivers to quiet games and causing quarterbacks to shy away from his side of the field. He was considered by many to be so dominant at his position that he earned the nickname "Revis Island" for leaving opposing wide receivers "stranded."

Now, Ryan might have to go into this season without one of the players he has called one of the best he has ever coached.

"When the first trade thing came up, I connected it to someone that clearly made it up; there was no factual basis," Ryan said at the NFL meetings in Phoenix in March. "On the first day John Idzik is named general manager and he doesn't even know where his office is, we're trying to trade Darrelle? This is all speculation like it's a foregone conclusion. I don't believe it.

"With that, I am not naive enough to understand several people would be interest in a player like Darrelle Revis."

And, the Buccaneers' offer might ultimately be too good to pass up for the Jets. Even if it means saying goodbye to a player who had already been considered by many to be one of the greatest players in franchise history.

"We coach the guys that we have," new defensive coordinator Dennis Thurman said recently. "I was always taught not to get over emotional about losing a guy. In terms of Darrelle Revis (being placed on injured reserve) last year, we had to move on and we had to continue to play. They're not going to cancel games, so our mindset is we coach who's here."

The Jets hoped Revis would always be here, though. After making $32.5 million in the first two years of the front-loaded deal, Revis made $7.5 million last season far below his market value.

He considered holding out for the third time in his career before training camp last summer, but then decided to report with the rest of his teammates and play out the season. But then came the first serious injury of Revis' career, the torn anterior cruciate ligament in Week 3 that ended his season and likely his tenure with the Jets.

Galliano was creative director at Christian Dior when he was fired in 2011 for an anti-Semitic rant, which is a crime in France. He's currently involved in a lawsuit against his former employer.

He began a temporary artist residency at the studio of Oscar de la Renta in New York earlier this year.

TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan won approval from participating countries to join talks on a U.S.-led Asia Pacific free trade agreement, central to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's plans to open the economy to more competition and revive growth.

The formal invitation for Tokyo to join the negotiations was extended at a meeting of members of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) on Saturday on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation gathering in Surabaya, Indonesia, according to a joint statement.

Japan will join 11 nations already in talks on the TPP: the United States, Canada, Mexico, Peru, Chile, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Australia and New Zealand. Members hope to reach a deal by the end of this year.

With the world's third-largest economy on board, the final TPP pact would cover nearly 40 percent of global economic output and one-third of all world trade.

Abe has prescribed a three-part economic plan of hyper-easy monetary policy, big fiscal spending and steps to spur longer-term growth, including deregulation and government backing to beat deflation and engineer lasting recovery. Joining the TPP talks is seen as the first, key element of that growth strategy.

"Japan's participation in the negotiation will underscore the economic significance of TPP and its promise as a pathway toward a Free Trade Area of the Asia Pacific," said the joint statement by trade ministers of the TPP member nations.

Japan hopes to participate in the July round of negotiations, which would require the White House to quickly give Congress 90-day notice of its intention to begin trade talks with Tokyo.

A 17th round of talks is currently scheduled for May in Peru. The dates and location of the 18th round in July have not yet been announced.

Last week, Japan struck a deal with the United States to get Washington's support to join the TPP talks.

The TPP talks are officially slated to conclude this year, although many trade experts expect them to stretch into 2014.

Japan is hoping to protect key agriculture goods such as rice, wheat and dairy products to appease its politically powerful farm lobby.

"Japan will aim to secure tariffs on agricultural products after entering the TPP talks. The situation is quite tough but we have not given up," a senior government official said.

Kazuhito Yamashita, research director at the Canon Institute for Global Studies, said Japan should be looking beyond the TPP to boost broader trade ties.

"Japan can have bargaining power as the nation is the only one involved in trade talks such as the TPP, Japan-EU, Japan-China-Korea, and the RCEP," he said.

Talks on a Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership trade block include the 10-nation Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) along with Japan, China, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand and India, but not the United States.

"Japan is in a very interesting strategic position. Japan could become a hub in South East Asia and a bridge between the region and the West if the authorities clearly understand this."
