Chrysler aims to produce over 100,000 new Jeep models in China, in a move that is key to Fiat's goal of selling 300,000 vehicles annually in China by next year.

Fiat and Chinese automaker Guangzhou Automobile Grouphave a joint venture called GAC-Fiat to produce Fiat cars in China.

"In China we have a good partner, and we have the possibility to use a second one to develop Jeep," he said.

Marchionne said Chrysler is not currently in talks with a partner for Jeep, but added that "there have been a number of expressions of interest."

The foreign ministry said that Italy's charge d'affaires in Vienna "intervened to sensitize" local authorities, including the city of Vienna and the economy ministry, after a menu of the Don Panino pub has upset Italians in Vienna and public opinion in Italy.

Naming a sandwich for Giovanni Falcone, a prosecutor killed by a Mafia bombing in 1992 and saying on the menu Falcone was "grilled" like a sausage offended his memory and is "unacceptable," the ministry said.

Another sandwich is named after Giuseppe "Peppino" Impastato, who rebelled against his mobster father in a tiny Sicilian town as a youngster, used his program on a local radio station in the 1970s to ridicule and denounce Cosa Nostra, as the Sicilian Mafia is known. In 1978, his body was found, blown up by dynamite, on the railroad tracks outside town, and the slaying blamed on mobsters. The menu describes Impastato as being "baked in a bomb attack like a chicken."

Other dishes on the menu are named after top Italian mobsters as well as one of Cosa Nostra's most famous turncoats, Tommaso Buscetta, whose testimony helped convict hundreds of mobsters in Italy. The foreign ministry said joking about people who died fighting the Mafia is offensive.

"It was especially underlined to the Austrian authorities how using the names of persons who distinguished themselves in the fight against the Mafia, done in a distorted way and for merely commercial aims, is not only in poor taste, but also highly offensive to the memory of these very people who have paid the highest price and disrespectful toward those who work daily to defeat the Mafia phenomenon," the ministry statement said.

The Don Panino pub's site says it was closed," but it was unclear when the update was posted. Italian state TV, describing the menu affair as a diplomatic flap, said the eatery had been closed for some time.

The pub's website, which also had the menu listed until early Saturday, was inaccessible late on Saturday.

Austrian foreign ministry media officers weren't answering their phones. A woman answering the phone at Vienna's city hall said there was no one available on the weekend to speak about the pub.

Italian state TV said the pub was run by Italians, and that it was Italians living in Vienna that were behind the drive to close it.

From time to time, people allege that we have created a government 'backdoor' into our systems, but Google does not have a 'backdoor' for the government to access private user data.

That statement with the "backdoor" reference could have implied that something other than a "backdoor" let the government in. (Perhaps for that very reason Zuckerberg doesn't even mention a backdoor, going straight to the direct access explanation.)

So, Page not only reiterated that same point with a little more vehemence and a clarification, but also added the new "direct access" clause Facebook has above hoping to further clarify it didn't cooperate with the NSA. "Indeed, the U.S. government does not have direct access or a “back door” to the information stored in our data centers," he said. "Press reports that suggest that Google is providing open-ended access to our users’ data are false, period."

That's a stronger denial than yesterday, which some took as the company using vague technology terms to skirt the issue. But it still doesn't exonerate either of the companies because the NSA neither needs a "backdoor" or "direct access" to collect the data. Google didn't need to give the government a backdoor, as the ACLU's Christopher Soghoian notes:

Google: We haven't given the government direct access to our servers. // That doesn't rule out an API.

June 7 (Reuters) - South Korean Chella Choi used a blistering front nine to shoot a five-under-par 67 for a one-stroke lead after Friday's first round of the rain-delayed LPGA Championship at Locust Hill outside Rochester, New York.

Choi, seeking her maiden LPGA Tour win, had five birdies on her outward half and offset a birdie at the 10th with a bogey at 13 for a one-shot edge over compatriot Jiyai Shin and American Morgan Pressel at the year's second major.

British Women's Open champion Shin posted four birdies, three on the back nine, in a bogey-free round while Pressel finished with four consecutive birdies to register her 68.

One stroke back was long-hitting American Brittany Lincicome, with compatriot Jessica Korda and Hall of Famer Pak Se-ri of South Korea another shot back on 70.

Thursday's play was scrubbed following lightning and torrential rain that soaked the course, leading organizers to move three tees up and allow the players to lift, clean and place balls in the fairway.

Groundskeepers arrived at 4 a.m. (0800 GMT) to prepare the course.

Pressel said she was surprised to tee off as scheduled.

"I thought that we would probably tee off at about noon, having seen photos of what the golf course looked like," said Pressel. "And it didn't stop raining just about all night.

"But the ground staff here did an incredible job getting the course ready. I don't think the greens could be any more perfect. There's some casual out there but that's to be expected. We're just happy to get out on the golf course."

Hitting fairways was critical with the water-logged rough even more penal than usual.

"The rough is nasty," said Korda, who had five birdies and three bogeys.

The leaderboard demonstrated that short hitters like Pressel and bombers such as Korda and Lincicome all had a chance to score at Locust Hill.

"If you don't hit the fairway you can be as long or as short as you want, but it's still going to play at a disadvantage," Korda said about going into the rough. "That ball sits down, you can't even get it out."

Among a large group tied at 71 were 2009 champion Anna Nordqvist of Sweden, 1994 and 1996 winner Laura Davies and Catriona Matthew of Briton, South Korean Amy Yang and Americans Angela Stafford and 18-year-old Lexi Thompson.

Defending champion Shanshan Feng, the first golfer from mainland China to win a women's major, shot a two over-par 74.

The car rental industry, tied closely to airline traffic and hotel bookings, is seeing strong volumes, helped by a recovery in business travel in the United States. Hertz, which primarily serves corporate customers, is also benefiting from the acquisition of Dollar Thrifty, a big player in the leisure and lower-priced rental market.

Hertz, No. 2 in the car rental market behind privately held Enterprise, will gain from domestic travel which is expected to hit a record high this year, Barron's said.

"Consolidation should bring firmer pricing to the industry and a recent acquisition should allow Hertz to pursue new growth opportunities across more brands," Barron's said.

In the past decade, the number of major car rental companies has dropped from six to three.

In the first quarter, Hertz brand rental rates at airports rose 5.3 percent, Barron's said.

Park Ridge, New Jersey-based Hertz forecasts that revenue, which rose 8.7 percent last year to $9.02 billion, will climb as much as 13.5 percent annually through 2015, and that earnings will come in at $3.10 to $3.30 a share. Apply last week's multiple of 13 times current earnings to that forecast, and the stock is worth $43, Barron's says.

Hertz shares, up about 50 percent this year, closed at $25.20 on Friday.

Hertz does face the challenge of replacing and disposing of cars, and no one is quite sure how Japan's newly cheap yen will affect the prices of new and used vehicles, Barron's said.

The National Transportation Safety Board has previously ruled out foul play but it has not yet determined a cause of the May 17 crash that injured more than 70 people and disrupted service for days on the railroad used by tens of thousands of commuters north of New York City.

But the NTSB did say Friday that a joint bar, used to hold two sections of rail together, had been cracked and repaired last month and that rail sections in the area of the derailment have been shipped to Washington for further examination. Adam Lisberg, an Metropolitan Transit Authority spokesman, said the joint bar was replaced.

Metro-North railroad is conducting an inspection and inventory of all the joint bars on its main tracks, NTSB said.

The eastbound train from New York City derailed during evening rush hour in Bridgeport, came to a stop and was struck about 20 seconds later by a westbound train, NTSB said. The westbound engineer applied the emergency brakes before striking the eastbound train, NTSB said.

The eastbound engineer told investigators he saw an unusual condition on the track as he approached the area, NTSB said.

It's not clear what caused the crash but repair work done in the area weeks before it may have weakened the track, George Cahill, an attorney representing six Metro-North workers injured in the crash, said this week. He also expressed concern that wheels on the new trains were too tight.

NTSB said it has completed the on-scene phase of the investigation and will now analyze the information gathered. Investigators have collected photos, video and other evidence, completed mechanical inspections of the rail cars, the track and signal system, interviewed employees, witnesses and first responders and documented the accident site, NTSB said.

Attorneys for a 65-year-old woman injured in the crash said they have filed a lawsuit alleging negligence by Metro-North.

Attorney Joel Faxon said the suit was filed Friday in federal court in Bridgeport to gain access to witnesses and allow victims and their families to be involved in the investigation. He said it was the first federal lawsuit stemming from crash.

He said his client, Elizabeth Sorensen of Bridgeport, remains in critical condition with a brain injury and multiple bone fractures.

A Metro-North spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment.

(Reuters) - Mike Krzyzewski said on Thursday he is returning for another term as the U.S. men's national basketball team coach with the aim of leading the squad to a third successive Olympic title at the 2016 Games in Rio.

Krzyzewski, the Duke University coach who has amassed the most wins in U.S. college hoops, has a 61-2 record since taking over the U.S. national team in 2005, including Olympic golds in 2008 and 2012, and is riding a 50-game winning streak.

"It's the ultimate honor to coach our country's team," Krzyzewski, who had said several times that he would step aside after last year's triumph at the London Olympics, told a news conference at Duke in Durham, North Carolina.

"When the 2008 Olympics, the world championship in '10 and then London were all finished, I really felt it would be the end of my time coaching international basketball."

Krzyzewski said USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo had kept after him about staying on the job, recalling a hotel room meeting over room service pizza and chicken fingers, and that after consulting with his family and Duke, he decided to return.

"It is tough to give up something you've absolutely loved doing for seven years, the people you're doing it with, and most importantly, the country you're doing it for," said 66-year-old Krzyzewski, who previously coached at Army.

Colangelo, who worked with Krzyzewski to change the U.S. national team system by requiring more of a commitment from the players, joined the news conference via telephone.

"It's a perfect fit for him. I think his legacy is very much tied to USA Basketball, as it certainly is to Duke University. I could not have picked a better guy to be in that foxhole with than Coach K and it's been great," said Colangelo.

"It's been a heck of a ride, a great journey, and I'm so happy we're going to continue."

Last year, Krzyzewski steered a star-studded squad including LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony to their second successive gold medal game triumph over Spain in the London Olympics final.

Under Krzyzewski, the U.S. team has not lost since a defeat to Greece in the semi-finals of the 2006 world championship and his London gold allowed him to join American Hank Iba as the only coaches to win back-to-back Olympic crowns.

Inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2001, Krzyzewski has registered 957 career coaching victories on the college level, and won four national championships and made 11 Final Fours with Duke.

"I'm really excited to do it," Krzyzewski said about coaching the U.S. team.

"We'll try and do these four years the same way we did the last seven, to build it with the best players available. They're the ones who make an amazing commitment."

In the years before the May, 17, 1954, ruling, husband-and-wife psychologists Kenneth and Mamie Clark presented children with a black doll and a white doll as part of a series of social science experiments. The black couple then asked the children which doll was the nicest, smartest and prettiest. The Clarks said the system of racial segregation at the time was the reason most chose the white doll.

The doll, which was donated to the historic site last year, will be on display from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday. Eventually, the National Park Service plans to place the doll on permanent display after securing funding for an exhibit that will safeguard it and educate the public about the research, superintendent David Smith said.

The Clarks testified about their research in a South Carolina school desegregation case. That case was combined with other desegregation cases from Topeka, Virginia, Delaware and Washington, D.C., which were argued collectively before the Supreme Court.

The doll research influenced the court, with Chief Justice Earl Warren writing that separating children "solely because of their race generates a feeling of inferiority as to their status in the community that may affect their hearts and minds in a way unlikely to ever be undone."

Even today, the doll studies have remained relevant. In 2005, teen filmmaker Kiri Davis recreated the experiment in Harlem, N.Y., as part of the short documentary "A Girl Like Me," finding the preference for the white doll persisted. After Barack Obama became the nation's first black president, ABC's "Good Morning America" tried another version of the experiment.

"If we could pick one object to symbolize the essence of Brown v. Board of Education, we would choose this doll," Smith said in a news release. "Tangible artifacts such as this doll make the story real and believable."

Also Friday, the Brown site will highlight several initiatives it's undertaking to teach the public about the case and the civil rights movement. Those efforts include bus tours of Topeka sites tied to the Bleeding Kansas era and the civil rights movement.

The Brown site is located in the former all-black Topeka school where the lead plaintiff's daughter and another plaintiff's child were students.

While Borussia Dortmund is eager to play up its chances to pull off the upset.

Even before the start of Saturday's Champions League final, the German rivals are at odds in their approach to the biggest game in club soccer.

Bayern is approaching its third final in four years with the self-assured calm of a team in control after a season of dominance, while Dortmund is enjoying the role of underdog.

Bayern winger Thomas Mueller summed up his side's mood on Friday, saying that the matchup is just "a normal Champion League game."

"Of course you get goose bumps when you're on the pitch and we know what's at stake. We won't let it drive us crazy though," the 23-year-old said.

Bayern captain Philipp Lahm felt the same way.

"The players are the right age now, the right character. There's nothing against us winning tomorrow," said Lahm, who added that he wouldn't be surprised if Bayern reached a fourth final in five years next season.

Dortmund coach Juergen Klopp is happy with one.

"If this is the only final in my life, this is the perfect place for it, and this is the perfect opponent," said Klopp, who spoke of the honor of playing at Wembley Stadium.

Klopp said it was clear his team enters as the underdog, but he added that his players were determined to make the most of their opportunity.

"We will approach the game with unbridled enthusiasm, with huge motivation for the task, and with the knowledge it can all go to pieces," Klopp said.

"But people have climbed Mount Everest knowing that they could fall 3 meters from the top and yet they still tried it. And that's why we're going to try too, and hope for good weather."

Actually, London greeted both teams with traditional British weather, and the unrelenting drizzle helped contribute to traffic problems that delayed both sides' arrival for their run outs on the pitch.

Klopp said the team received a police escort from the airport and "if we're to make it on time for the game tomorrow we'll need another. So if someone knows a policeman, please ask."

The buildup to the 101st competitive meeting between the two rivals has been overshadowed by Mario Goetze's decision to leave Dortmund for Bayern and reports that Polish striker Robert Lewandowski is planning to follow.

For Dortmund defender Mats Hummels, the prospect of the club winning a second Champions League title after its triumph in 1997 was motivation enough.

"It would be great to show the players who may be going that our team can achieve great things too," he said.

Goetze is out of what would have been his last Dortmund game with a hamstring injury, sustained after just 12 minutes of the second leg of his team's semifinal at Real Madrid. Otherwise, Klopp has no injury concerns.

Hummels, who failed to establish himself at Bayern after coming through its youth teams, said he was fit after recovering from an ankle injury.

Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes declared all his players were fit, too, after completing what he called "the best season in 50 years of the Bundesliga."

Bayern wrapped up the title with six weeks to spare and finished 25 points ahead of Dortmund both records in a season of many.

Heynckes said that the final would probably be his last chance to lift the trophy he won in 1998 as coach of Real Madrid.

The 68-year-old is making way for former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola and has hinted strongly that he's retiring.

"This is special for Bayern and for the team," Heynckes said. "You have players who are a little bit older and for them it would be the crowning achievement of their careers. For me too, but I'm a little more relaxed about it. There's a little more distance because I won it before."

Bayern is driven by the memory of losing last year's final to Chelsea on penalties in Munich.

"We hope of course that Wembley is better and that the stadium brings us luck," Heynckes said. "Last year we were the better team. Perhaps tomorrow the football gods are with us."

First, Joe Sakic was given more responsibility in the front office.

And now Hall of Fame goalie Patrick Roy is rejoining the Avs as head coach.

Colorado reached an agreement in principle Thursday with Roy to lead the team and also serve as vice president of hockey operations.

Roy will join forces with Sakic, who was recently promoted to executive vice president of hockey operations. The Avalanche won two Stanley Cup titles with the duo on the ice and the organization is hoping they can help turn around a struggling franchise.

Pull this off and it just might be Roy's biggest save yet.

The Avs finished a year they'd rather forget, winding up last in the Western Conference and sitting out of the playoffs for a third straight season. The dismal season led to the dismissal of coach Joe Sacco late last month.

However, the team does have the No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft.

They also have one of the winningest goalies of all time, a fiery competitor during his playing days who will bring that sort of intensity to the bench.

The 47-year-old Roy becomes the sixth coach in Avalanche history and the 14th in franchise history; the team began as the Quebec Nordiques and moved to Denver before the 1995-96 season. The Avs captured the first of two Stanley Cup titles that season, with Roy in net.

Although he has no NHL coaching experience, Roy did spend the last eight seasons as coach and general manager of the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, winning the 2006 Memorial Cup. He also is a part-owner of the QMJHL franchise.

"This is an unbelievable day for me," Roy said. "It's a new and exciting challenge that I am really looking forward to. Almost 10 years to the day that I announced my retirement as a player I am back in Denver and hope the fans are as excited as I am."

Roy's younger brother, Stephane Roy, let the secret out of the bag earlier this week, posting a Facebook note saying his brother would be the new coach. That left fans in the Mile High City eager all week, hoping two of the most beloved players in team history would team up again.

"This is a very exciting day for our fans and a significant moment in our organization's history," team president Josh Kroenke said.

Following the season, the Avalanche shook up their front office, naming Kroenke as their team president as he took over for longtime executive Pierre Lacroix, who was instrumental in assembling the squads that won championships in 1996 and 2001.

Kroenke's first task was giving Sakic more of a say in every day hockey decisions. He also allowed Sakic to seek out the next coach.

Naturally, he turned to someone he knows quite well.

"All along Patrick was our top candidate and we are thrilled that he has decided to accept this offer," Sakic said. "Patrick has a great hockey mind, is a tremendous coach and there is no one more passionate about this game. He will bring that winning attitude to our dressing room to help this young team grow."

Roy was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2006. He retired with the most regular-season wins in NHL history (551), since passed by New Jersey's Martin Brodeur. Roy also won two Stanley Cups with Montreal and remains the winningest goalie in Stanley Cup history with 151 postseason victories.

"Patrick's passion for the game of hockey both as a player and as a coach defines who he is as a person," Kroenke said. "He is a winner and is coming back to Denver, where he created numerous special moments on and off the ice while helping lead us to two Stanley Cup championships."

Roy won three Vezina Trophies (1989, 1990, 1992) and was selected to the NHL All-Star team six times.

The excitable Roy started his career with Montreal, winning two Stanley Cup trophies for the Canadiens. But a rift grew with the team after a game against Detroit on Dec. 2, 1995, when Roy allowed nine goals before he was finally taken out in the second period. Upset, Roy told Montreal it was his last game for the team.

A few days later, he was in Colorado, helping the Avs win their first Stanley Cup title.

To this day, Roy sweaters permeate the Pepsi Center on game days. He's that revered.

Roy had his number retired by the Avs a decade ago and a banner to commemorate the achievement now hangs from the arena's rafters, alongside those of Peter Forsberg (21), Ray Bourque (77) and his new partner in turning around this franchise, Sakic (19).

The team has quite a bit to build around, too, especially since the Avs have a young nucleus in place with Matt Duchene, Ryan O'Reilly and captain Gabriel Landeskog all under 23.
