The baker that my sister and sister's husband works for (and where they first met) also has combined restaurant branches.
We had lunch at one of those restaurants. The value meal included all-you-can-eat salad and bread.
After lunch we went to Senzoku-ike park for a walk to work of the meal.
Jason and I also had a go at peddling a cycle boat.
Kyota is saying a lot of words now!
He called both my name & J's name. That moved me. However, he called J's name more than mine.....It's not fair!

All in all, I enjoyed a beautiful day!




５月は妹と私の誕生月です。母の日もあります。
仕事もお休みだったので、みんなで集まってランチをすることになりました。
このレストランはパン食べ放題・サラダ食べ放題のセットが魅力で、妹と妹の旦那さんの職場の支店でもあります。
そのあと運動も兼ねて洗足池にいき、散歩と池にあるサイクルボートに乗ってみました。スワンに乗りたかったけど、普通のに乗ったわたし。Jはローボートがよかったみたい。イイ運動になりました！！
それにしてもキョウタはよく喋るようになりました。今日も、ちゃんと私やJの名前を呼んでくれるんです。感動しました。キョウタの記憶にはJのほうがインパクトがあるみたいで、いっぱい呼んでもらってた。ちぇっ。うらやましぃ～～。
とってもいい休日でした♪

Yokohama Harbour is so beautiful. It is systematically laid out with each section built up through big development projects. This has led to a mixture of both modern and old-fashioned cultures.
I like its interesting atmosphere. It feels like travelling to another country when going to Yokohama.
In the past, the shipping trade was very prosperous. With many elderly people living in Yokohama and many old buildings, theold style is protected while the new style is still accepted. It makes Yokohama's atmosphere its own.

いつもは六本木で仕事をしている私ですが、この前の金曜日、横浜の支店にヘルプにいきました。
横浜の港は、とてもきれいです。
あのあたりは開発されたばかりの計画都市で（みなとみらい地区）近代的な部分と、昔ながらの部分（中華街周辺）がまざりあって、私はその面白い雰囲気がとても好きです。いついっても、自分が何処か違う国を旅しているような気分になります。
昔から港町として栄えていた横浜。横浜の人達は古いものを大事にしていますが、新しいものも拒まない。それが独特の空気をつくり出しているのでしょうね。

It's the result of yesterday's game in the Australian football league.
Recently, my husband become a member of AFL's official site.
This means that we can watch all games from Japan!
Actually, my host family (the family I lived with when first visiting Australia) had been a big fan of the Brisbane Lions but I didn't understand the rules and so didn't think much of AFL.
However, I'm wrapped up in it now, studying the rules as I watch games everyday.
What is great about AFL is that even though they have no protectors they bump their bodies against other players! They run all over the field, always keeping very active in the game. It is normal for there to be bodily knocks of aggression in every game!! I couldn't understand it before but now I'm VERY impressed with them! (This sport really suits me...)
Another thing I enjoy about the game is that each team has a different fighting style.
I don't have a favourite team yet. I want to watch more games before choosing a team to barrack for.At first I'm going to remember each team, their mascot and their uniforms too!




「猫たちが、ライオンをやっつけた！」
このタイトルは何を表しているのでしょう?
それは、昨日見たオーストラリアンフットボールリーグのゲームのことです。
夫が、AFLのサイトに入ったので、私たちは日本にいながらにして
AFLの全試合を見ることが出来るのです！　
実は私のホストファミリーはブリスベンライオンズの大ファンでした。
でも私はそのとき、まったくAFLのルールが理解できなかったのです。
だから今まで興味がないままでいました。
でも今、AFLにすっかりハマっています。ルールも毎日試合を見ながら覚えています。
AFLの何がそんなに面白いって、ノープロテクターでがんがん人とぶつかっていくところ！
広いコートを縦横無尽に走り回る選手たち！試合中の小競り合いは当り前！！
以前はここがわからなかったのに、いまではすっかり感動しています♪（けっこう私に合ってるみたい…）
チームの試合のしかた（？）も様々で、とっても楽しいです。
声援を送るひいきのチームをえらぶ前に、もっと多くの試合を見たいです。
まず、全チームの名前を覚えるぞ～～～！ユニフォームも覚えなきゃ～。

My idea of a perfect morning is seeing sunshine come in through the window and hearing the sound of birds singing...I wouldn't be able to sleep on such a good day. (I would feel especially good if there was also the smell of baked bread and fresh coffee)

But in the real world...
Instead of pretty birds singing, I hear many crows squawking in fights over food and territory.
They are fairly big; about 80cm long, I think. And their beaks look so strong! I always wonder if they'll attack me...
They don't come every day - only certain days.


Yes, today is Wednesday. That means that it's garbage day.
3 days every week, they come from who knows where, scavenge for food and then disappear again.
How do they know when it's garbage day???
Can they smell the garbage? Or do they have some kind of telepathy?? (No way!!)
And where do they come from??
I wonder...


朝、、、みなさんはどのように目覚めますか？

わたしの理想は、カーテンのすき間から晴れてる証拠の日の光。ちゅんちゅん小鳥がさえずったりしていて。こんな日だったら、頭がぱっとめざめて二度寝なんてもったいなくて出来ないでしょう！（すでにコーヒーが湧いていて、美味しそうなパンの焼ける匂いがしてたらサイコーです！）

でも、現実はというと…
小鳥どころか、朝っぱらから、カラスがかぁ～かぁ～鳴いているんです。
それも大量に。空で華麗な縄張争いまで繰り広げています。彼らは意外と大きい。羽を広げると８０cmはありそうです。そしてクチバシが強そうだ！　あれに攻撃されたら、ひとたまりもないでしょう。
でも毎日ではないのです。決まった日だけ、彼らはやって来ます。

そう…今日は水曜、生ごみの日です。
毎週３回（月・水・金）、かれらはどこからか現れ、食物をあさり、どこかへ姿を隠してしまいます。
どうしてごみの日を知っているのだろう。。。
ニオイ？　それとも一羽が食物を見つけると、伝言ゲームみたいにみんなに伝わるようになってるのかしら？（まさかね…）
そしてどこからくるのか。。
不思議です…

Two of our friends, an Australian husband and Japanese wife, had a baby girl last year!

She's so beautiful!!!!

There were about 20 people that came to HANAMI. We each brought some food and drink.
I made meat pies this year. We enjoyed being able to see the cherry blossom flowers while eating, drinking, and talking. Some of our friends will go back to Australia and many will stay in Japan.
However, I want to keep in touch them all for ever.

 



このあいだの日曜日、私たちはお花見パーティーにいってきました。
お花見とは、きれいに咲いた桜の木の下で、花を見ながらお弁当を食べたりする春の行事です。（ときどき、花見は夜まで続きます…）
私たちが結婚してからほぼ毎年、グループでお花見をしているのです。
この友達たちとは、キャンプやビーチバレーや花見、、とよく一緒にアウトドアをしています。
なかよくしているご夫婦のなかに、日本人妻とオージー夫というカップルもいて、昨年、念願の赤ちゃんが生まれました。女の子ですっごくかわいいです！
今年は２０人くらい集まりました。いつも、ご飯はみんなで持ち寄ります。
私はミートパイを作りました。みんなで桜を見ながら、飲んで、しゃべって、食べてとっても楽しかった。
この友達のなかには、オーストラリアに帰国する人もいるし、私たちもいずれオーストラリアに移住するでしょう。日本の友達の多くは、日本に留まるでしょう。
いつでも、こうして集まりたいと思っています。

There was a piece of trivia on last wednesday's show that I found very interesting and somewhat surprising.
"International tennis umpires are quite familiar with bad words in most languages."

At first I didn't understand what was meant but I was then convinced by the show's explation.
Tennis started as a gentleman's sport in England and sets a high value on good manners. The value is so high that the international rule book says that players can't say bad words during a match.
Therefore umpires need to know a lot of bad words from all over the world.
In fact, there is actually a book of bad words for umpires and it keeps getting bigger as participating nations increase.
International tennis umpires know much more than just tennis!



私と夫が気に入っているテレビ番組のひとつに「トリビアの泉」があります。
トリビア　＝　ささいなこと、（あまり役に立たない）知識、雑学的知識
このあいだのトリビアで、おもわず「へぇ～！」といってしまったもの、
それは
「テニスの国際審判員は、世界の悪口にくわしい」
でした。

最初は「？？？」って感じだったんですけど、聞いてみて納得。
テニスは発祥の地イギリスで紳士のスポーツとして始まり、今でもフェアプレイを重んじるスポーツなので、選手は失敗したときに暴言を吐いたりしてはいけないと、国際ルール本にしっかりと記載されているということで、審判はあらかじめ、いろいろな国の悪口を知っていなければならないんですって～
近年では参加国が増えたので、世界の悪口をまとめてあるマニュアル本（？）はどんどん分厚くなっているそうですよ
国際審判ともなると大変ですね！

This morning, I saw a nice view on my way to work.

Blue sky and white cherry bloosoms just bloomed.
It made me so refreshed.

なぜ実家に帰っていたかというと、うちの母が還暦だったのです。
日本では、赤いちゃんちゃんこを贈り、今までありがとうの感謝の意味をこめてお祝いします。
でも、母は「赤いちゃんちゃんこ」なんてまだまだ似合わないので、妹と計画して家族写真をとることにしました！！！
母は学校の先生として働きながら、家のこともやっていて、ご飯もおやつもつくってくれた。おせちだって全部手作り。。はたして私が自分の子供にこんなことをできるんだろーか？と思ってしまうこともしばしばです。
そんな母が６０才。これからはゆっくり父と過ごしてほしいです。

鍋とは、作っておいた料理を、鍋ごと食卓に運ぶ料理です。冬にはとても人気のある日本料理です。たくさんの野菜を使えるし、お肉もいれるし、魚も良く合います。鍋は、健康的でおいしくて、しかも作るのが簡単なんです、ヤッホー！！
作り方：　野菜を切っておく。肉も軽く炒めておく（今日は坦々鍋風なので挽肉炒めてます）。ツユを鍋につくり、入れます。煮たったら野菜・肉をいれて１５分ほど煮ます。これだけ！ 簡単でしょう？　野菜の後にはうどん（もしくはご飯）を鍋にいれます。これがまたおいしいメインなんです。スープは野菜や肉のおいしいエキスがたっぷりですからね ~



We're going away to my parents' house this weekend so we'll need to eat all the vegetables in the fridge tonight. What should I make for dinner? I have leeks, a Japanese radish, mushrooms, beansprouts, tomatoes, a cucumber, frozen mincemeat...
Oh my gosh, "NABE" is great!! More than great, it's perfect! Beautiful! (I'm being too egotistical!)
NABE is a hot pot cooked at the table. This is a popular Japanese meal in winter. It can contain vegetables, meat... even fish can be used in a "NABE". It is healthy, tasty and easy to make. Yo-ho!

How to make:
1) Slice and dice the vegetables
2) Lightly fry the mincemeat in a separate pan and drain the excess oil
3) Put some soup into the big pot and bring it to boil
4) Add the meat and vegetables and simmer for about 15 minutes.

That's all!! Easy, isn't it? After eating the vegetables (and meat), we add noodles (or rice) to the pot. It makes a great main. The flavour of the vegetables and meat gets into the soup and is very delicious!

The answer is rice on boiled vegetable "moroheiya". This vegetable is very sticky after it boiled. It looks strange, doesn't it? But it tastes excellent!
答えは、モロヘイヤという野菜をのせたご飯でした。ゆでると粘りが出る野菜です。
見た目は変ですが、(むぎとろご飯のような食感で、)すっご～くおいしいのです！
