LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Comedy Central has ordered Ben Stiller-produced comedy pilot, "Big Time In Hollywood, FL," a network representative told TheWrap.

The single-camera comedy follows two delusional brothers and wannabe film makers who are kicked out of their parents' home and embark on a cinematic adventure.

Joining the pilot are Kathy Baker ("Against the Wall") and Stephen Tobolowsky ("Californication") as the parents.

From Stiller's production company Red Hour, the pilot is written and executive produced by Alex Anfanger and Dan Schimpf. Stiller will exec produce with Red Hour's Debbie Liebling, Stuart Cornfeld and Mike Rosenstein with Brillstein Entertainment's Brian Stern and Lee Kernis.

Currently, Stiller and Bob Odenkirk's sketch series "The Birthday Boys" has been given an October 18 premiere date on IFC.

The Brazilian soccer federation said Sunday that Neves had been hospitalized since last week after complications from the heart attack.

Neves also was on Brazil's team during the 1966 World Cup, but it was in the two previous tournaments that his career peaked. He was Pele's teammate at Santos and also played for Brazilian club Corinthians. His health had weakened after sustaining a stroke in 2000.

Right back De Sordi, another member of the 1958 squad, died Saturday at age 82 following multiple organ failure.

Defender Djalma Santos, who also played for Brazil's winning team in 1958 and 1962, died in July.

DENVER (Reuters) - Denver Broncos all-pro linebacker Von Miller, who is appealing his suspension for violating the NFL's drug policy, was arrested on Sunday at a Colorado gun shop for failing to appear in court for traffic violations, police said on Wednesday.

Miller, 24, was arrested after the Colorado Bureau of Investigation notified police that he was in the store and had an outstanding warrant, according to documents released by the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office.

Undersheriff David Walcher said Miller was taken into custody by deputies on Sunday, booked and released after paying a $1,000 bond. Walcher said he did not know what triggered the law enforcement notification.

Susan Medina, spokeswoman for the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, said the agency cannot comment on specific cases, but under Colorado law anyone attempting to purchase a gun must undergo a background check, which could reveal any outstanding warrants.

The 6-foot 3-inches (1.91-metre), 250-pound (113-kg) Miller, who was the second overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft, was cited in October in suburban Denver for driving without a license, careless driving and failure to provide proof of insurance.

He skipped his December court date, and a warrant was then issued.

The Broncos posted a brief statement on the team's website, saying they were aware of the arrest of the third-year pro out of Texas A&M University, who has twice been selected a Pro Bowl outside linebacker.

"It was reported to the league earlier this week and is being handled through the legal system," the statement said.

The news of his arrest came a day before Miller was scheduled to appear before NFL officials to appeal a four-game suspension the league handed down to him for violating its substance abuse policy.

Miller's arrest is the latest off-field embarrassment for the Broncos, who were eliminated in last season's play-offs by the eventual Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens.

Two of the team's front office executives were suspended without pay by the team in July after they were arrested in separate incidents on driving under the influence charges.

Rates measured by the Mortgage Bankers Association jumped to the highest level since July 2011, which also cut into refinance activity. The share of refinance applications fell to the lowest level in more than two years.

Interest rates on fixed 30-year mortgage surged 12 basis points to average 4.58 percent in the week ended June 28, the MBA said.

"At these rates, many fewer homeowners have an incentive to refinance," Mike Fratantoni, MBA's vice president of research and economics, said in a statement.

"Purchase application volume also declined, but not nearly to the same extent, as affordability remains strong."

However, a separate report from mortgage financier Freddie Mac, covering the week ending July 3, showed average rates for 30-year mortgages heading slightly lower. Market concern about an early reduction of Fed stimulus eased somewhat during the period, an economist said.

Rates have been rising since early May, with the increase accelerated by comments from Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke last month that the central bank expects to wind down the pace of its quantitative easing program later this year if the economy improves as expected.

The Fed has been buying $85 billion a month in bonds and mortgage-backed assets to keep borrowing costs low and stimulate economic growth. The historically low mortgage rates have helped lure in buyers as the housing market gets back on its feet.

The recent higher cost of mortgages has raised concerns that the increase could dampen demand and slow the housing recovery, though most economists do not expect it to be derailed. Even with the increase, rates remain historically low.

While the rise in rates had appeared to cause some potential buyers to get into the market earlier in June, MBA's seasonally adjusted index of loan requests for home purchases decreased 3.1 percent last week.

Refinancing activity was hit much harder and the index tumbled 15.6 percent last week. The refinance share of total mortgage activity slumped to 64 percent of applications from 67 percent the week before. It was the lowest level since May 2011.

The overall index of mortgage application activity, which includes both refinancing and home purchase demand, slid 11.7 percent.

The survey covers over 75 percent of U.S. retail residential mortgage applications, according to MBA.

The Freddie Mac report showed average 30-year fixed rate mortgages for the week ending July 3 falling to 4.29 percent from 4.46 percent last week. At this time last year the rate averaged 3.62 percent.

The Primary Mortgage Market Survey also showed that the 15-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 3.39 percent this week, down from last week's average of 3.50 percent.

"Fixed mortgage rates fell over the holiday week as market concerns over the timing of the Federal Reserve's pullback in bond purchases eased somewhat," said Frank Nothaft, vice president and chief economist for Freddie Mac.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Sales of new single-family homes in the United States fell sharply in July to their lowest level in nine months, casting a shadow over the country's housing recovery.

Sales dropped 13.4 percent to an annual rate of 394,000 units, the Commerce Department said on Friday.

The reading, which was well below economists' expectations, could be a sign that a recent surge in mortgage rates is weighing on the economy, although the data is often subject to large revisions.

The report could weaken the case for the U.S. Federal Reserve to reduce its support for the economy by trimming monthly bond purchases later this year.

"The higher mortgage rates are having an impact on the housing market," said Scott Brown, chief economist with Raymond James in St. Petersburg, Florida. "That makes tapering (bond purchases) somewhat less likely."

The government revised sharply lower its estimate for new home sales in May and June.

Yields on U.S. government debt dropped sharply and the dollar weakened following the release of the data, a sign that some investors were scaling back bets that the Fed would trim its $85 billion in monthly bond purchases next month.

Mortgage rates have risen sharply since May on bets that the Fed would soon begin tapering its bond purchases. The stimulus program is designed to lower interest rates to make it easier for businesses to expand and take on new workers.

The housing market, which has been a major drag on the U.S. economy since the 2007-09 recession, appeared to turn a corner early last year when home prices began to rise.

Last month, the median price for a new home sale rose to $257,200, up from $237,400 in the same month of 2012.

There have been indications that higher borrowing costs are having only a limited impact on the overall housing market.

Sales of existing homes, a much larger category than new homes, surged to a three-year high last month. Some analysts speculated, however, that home buyers rushed into the market to lock in mortgage rates before they rose further.

Construction of new homes has accelerated over the last year, and the inventory of new homes for sale increased by 4.3 percent in July from June.

Rising inventories could slow the rapid and arguably unsustainable price gains seen over the past year. If that occurred in step with a moderate rise in interest rates, the overall housing market could become healthier in the long term.

"(In) the end it will make it the housing recovery a more durable one," said Lindsey Piegza, chief economist with Sterne Agee & Leach in Chicago.

At July's sales pace it would take 5.2 months to clear the houses on the market, up from 4.3 months in June. A supply of six months is normally considered a healthy balance between supply and demand.

SRINAGAR, India (Reuters) - Ishfaq first threw a rock at an Indian policeman six years ago. Now he's thinking about arming himself with a gun.

The 21-year-old is the human face of a trend that is worrying security sources, politicians and a rights group spoken to by Reuters - the revival of violent anti-Indian sentiment among the Kashmir Valley population just as New Delhi fears a renewed onslaught from Pakistan-based militants.

Ishfaq and his friends were among thousands who took to the streets across the Muslim-majority Himalayan state following the July 18 killing of four men by Indian border police during a day of protests against an alleged desecration of the Koran.

Three weeks on, hiding from police in a crowded bazaar of the lakeside city of Srinagar, Ishfaq said several years of unarmed struggle against India's rule had been met only with violence.

"If the same situation persists, the day is not far away when we go back to the gun," said Ishfaq, who asked for his second name to be withheld. "We cannot fight without weapons."

Rising attacks on security forces and evidence that more young people are slipping into the grasp of armed militants risk undoing years of security gains in Indian-controlled Kashmir.

The timing could not be worse for India.

A looming general election has prompted accusations that some politicians are manipulating the instability. Meanwhile, intelligence sources say militant groups may turn their fire on India again when Western troops leave Afghanistan next year.

"People generally feel pushed to the wall here," said Khurram Parvez, an activist with rights group the Jammu and Kashmir Coalition for Civil Society whose grandfather was shot dead by security forces at a protest. His own leg was blown off by a militant bomb in 2004.

"In the last three or four years they have tried to criminalize protesters and curb public speaking. Unfortunately this pressure and violence from the state is starting a new sense among people where violence is getting legitimized."

That is certainly the view of Ishfaq, who spoke to Reuters in a room gruesomely decorated with photos of victims of alleged torture at the hands of Indian security forces.

With separatist leaders frequently under house arrest and banned from public speaking, and no sign of dialogue that could lead to a political solution, he feels betrayed by India.

"We are on the threshold, we cannot bear it, we cannot tolerate it any more," he said.

RISE IN FATALITIES

Last summer was the most peaceful in the disputed South Asian region since an armed insurgency exploded in 1989 as Soviet troops withdrew from Afghanistan.

Ashok Prasad, the chief of police in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, said the number of attacks by militants was actually down this year.

But the fall in the number of attacks disguises a sharp rise in the number of fatalities. Eight soldiers died in a single brazen ambush on an army truck in heavily defended Srinagar the day before Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visited in June.

According to the South Asia Terrorism Portal, which tracks the violence, 42 members of the security forces have been killed so far this year, up from just 17 in all of 2012.

That reverses a decade-long trend in which fatalities fell annually as militants laid down arms and protests and riots replaced bullets and bombs.

The violence coincides with an upswing in tension along the Line of Control (LoC) that divides Kashmir between India and Pakistan, who have been quarrelling over the region they both claim in full since freedom from British colonial rule in 1947.

Tit-for-tat artillery exchanges regularly rattle the de facto border. Two weeks of shelling between India and Pakistan has followed an ambush that killed five Indian soldiers on August 6.

Pakistan denied any involvement in that ambush. But Indian security officials suggest a new wave of Pakistan-based Islamist guerrillas are trying to cross the LoC, part of a shift in focus to India ahead of the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan next year that some feel has echoes of 1989.

The foreign fighters bring weapons and inspiration, but they can only flourish with local support. There are signs that support is growing.

"Anyone who comes across, we welcome them," said Ishfaq.

Jammu and Kashmir's Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in June said the numbers of people joining the militancy was still extremely low, but conceded that a trend of young, educated youth joining the ranks of militants was "a serious concern".

Several factors are blamed for this creeping radicalization. One security source pointed to the growing popularity of more conservative strains of Islam and to high unemployment. Many Kashmiris simply feel India has not made enough concessions despite several years of peace, making normal life difficult.

Widely despised laws protecting security forces from trial are still in place, access to simple technology such as text messaging is limited and the heavy military and police presence in the state has not been lifted.

FERTILE GROUND FOR RADICALS

Though the latest violence is small compared with the worst years of the insurgency, when thousands died in fighting annually, some Kashmir politicians warn that, left unchecked, the situation could quickly get out of hand.

"In 1989 there was almost no violence, but it exploded into a full insurgency within a year," said Yasin Malik, a former militant who now leads a political movement calling for a Kashmiri nation independent of both India and Pakistan, which polls show is what most people in the Kashmir Valley want.

Some trace the latest uptick in violence to the execution in February of Afzal Guru, a Kashmiri convicted of a 2001 attack on India's parliament. Fearful of a backlash, the Indian government imposed a week-long blanket curfew across the state immediately after Guru was hung, infuriating much of the population.

Others look further back. Parvez, the rights activist, says police shootings that killed more than 100 young protesters in 2010 and a campaign of arbitrary detention, documented by Amnesty International, both helped radicalize opinion.

A security source with close knowledge of anti-militancy operations met Reuters on a wooden bridge across the Jhelum river that runs to Pakistan. He said some of the anger directed at the police was justified because of rights abuses.

"There is a deepening of radicalization and a slight increase in recruitment of locals," the source said, adding that he feared next year's election would be fertile ground for violence from militants seeking to undermine the vote.

Ishfaq and his friends, already halfway to going underground, say they are in no mood to back down.

"We are hopeful a day will come when there will be results and until there we will keep fighting. We want independence from both India and Pakistan," he said.

That's the word from Pivot, a new cable television network targeting 18-to-34-year-olds. It signs on next week.

Sure, passive viewing is permissible as Pivot rolls out more than 300 hours of original programming to a potential audience of 40 million viewers. But it will offer entertainment whether comedy, drama, talk or documentaries that aims not just to amuse but also to inspire social change.

"This is a general entertainment network, which we want to be enjoyable and interesting to the audience. Then the inspiration and the action come from it," says Chad Boettcher, Pivot's executive vice president of social action and advocacy.

Viewers can sample how with the premiere of "TakePart Live," which will be "the first millennial-driven talk and information show on TV," according to Pivot president Evan Shapiro. Airing at midnight Eastern time, the weeknight show is devoted to "decoding the news," he said, complete with online involvement by viewers who will join in the effort to separate what's true from what's not in each day's high-profile stories.

Earlier on the network's launch day, Aug. 1, Pivot will treat binge-happy viewers to all six episodes of "Please Like Me," a comedy-drama from 25-year-old Australian comedian Josh Thomas whose first half-hour is already available on the Pivot website.

"If 'Girls' had a soul, this would be that show," Shapiro said with a laugh during a recent interview.

He described "Please Like Me" as "a coming-out quarter-life-crisis suicide comedy," which opens up all sorts of self-esteem issues for viewers to share and discuss online.

Pivot will present acquired programming such as "Friday Night Lights" and "Little Mosque," a long-running Canadian series focused on a Muslim community in a Saskatchewan prairie town that will make its U.S. debut on Aug. 5.

The network will air features and documentaries that befit its parent, Participant Media, which, founded in 2004 by entrepreneur-philanthropist Jeff Skoll, set a "double bottom line" for itself financial profit and social impact and since then has produced more than 40 socially relevant fiction and nonfiction films including "The Help," ''Charlie Wilson's War," ''Food, Inc.," ''An Inconvenient Truth" and "Lincoln."

"Participant exists to tell stories that inspire people to be more involved in the world around them," said the company's CEO, Jim Berk, "and we have learned this doesn't happen unless the audience believes that the source of the content and the storytelling is authentic. With the launch of Pivot we now have new ways to foster a trusting relationship by providing tools to understand and distill complex issues."

That all sounds good, declared Brad Adgate, an analyst at the media-buying firm Horizon Media, "but it's easier said than done. It's a big chore to figure out what's relevant to this target audience and get them to respond."

Pivot thinks wide-ranging research and Participant's track record have given the network a handle on what will resonate with millennials, and it's programming accordingly.

In September, it will premiere "Raising McCain," billed as a "genre-busting docu-talk series" following Meghan McCain, daughter of Arizona's U.S. Sen. John McCain, and "Jersey Strong," an original docu-series from the producers of the Peabody Award-winning "Brick City" that centers on two unconventional families in Newark, N.J.: a man and woman mentoring young people who themselves are members of two rival street gangs and two women in a same-sex relationship who run a law firm.

And slated for January is the premiere of "hitRECord on TV," an audience-collaborated variety show produced and hosted by actor-impresario Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who rallies artists from his global open-source online community to create films, music and other content for the series.

Pivot will cull its programming for appropriate calls to action to air during the shows. During August alone, more than 160 action proposals will be highlighted on screen for viewers to consider, Shapiro said.

"But we also wanted an issue that was universal, across the entire network," he added "a campaign that, whoever you are, applies to you."

What Pivot came up with: digital and media literacy. It resulted in a year-round initiative called Eyes Wide Open.

Underlying the campaign is Pivot's own polling of 18-to34-year-olds, which found a generation worried about bias in their news and often feeling misled by social media, even as many of them acknowledged having misled others with their posts. Meanwhile, this crowd voiced confusion, even a sense of defeat, about the problem of online privacy.

"This is the first digitally native generation in the history of the world," said Shapiro, "and they feel overwhelmed. They feel trapped. We want to give them a resource to talk about that, to know they're not alone in it and to get more information and help."

He calls "TakePart Live" the face of this initiative, and of Pivot overall, "because we want to help decode the information that is being thrust at this audience on an ongoing basis."

But there's more. On its website Pivot will launch its digital and media literacy hub containing information on a user's rights in the digital world, advice on establishing privacy settings, and, in a bid by the network for corporate transparency, its own policy on advertising what it accepts and rejects and why.

Pivot will present an original half-hour documentary, "Eyes Wide Open," premiering Sept. 11.

The campaign will be the focus of the first episode of "Raising McCain," while those issues will be examined in at least a half-dozen editions of ABC News' "Nightline" produced in the coming year in partnership with Pivot.

"We think the stories we tell and how we tell them are uniquely suited to the mission at Participant and at Pivot," said "Nightline" executive producer Jeanmarie Condon, "as we work together to write the next chapter in the history of these two powerful brands."

That next chapter, said Shapiro, calls for the audience to get more savvy about producing and consuming media content.

"We want to create the most literate audience in digital media on Earth," he said.

An unopened Doritos bag from Hempfest had drawn eight bids by Monday afternoon, pushing the price to $58. One bag listed as "used" was fetching $50.

The nacho-cheese-flavored Doritos were a popular topic surrounding the event because Seattle police distributed them for free along with stickers designed to inform pot consumers about the state's legal pot law.

Officers handed out only 1,000 bags of chips at an event that draws as many as 85,000 people per day.

Remember Brad Pitt as a U.N. inspector in "World War Z"? He just wanted to hang at home with his family, but he had to save the world from raging zombies. And Matt Damon in "Elysium"? He played a reformed car thief who just wanted to heal himself and suddenly, he needed to rescue the planet.

But Simon Pegg in "The World's End," the latest work of brilliant inanity from director Edgar Wright, takes this whole reluctant-savior-of-humanity thing to a new plane. Twenty years after high school, Pegg's scruffy, unshaven, never-gonna-grow-up, substance-abusing Gary can't hold down a job. His idea of a relationship is a quick tryst in the loo of a pub. This is a guy who's gonna save us or at least, parts of suburban England from an alien invasion? Lord help us.

Of course, if you're a fan of Pegg's earlier two films with Wright, the 2004 "Shaun of the Dead" and the 2007 "Hot Fuzz," you'll know that such plot absurdities are not only par for the course, but crucial to the delightful sensibilities of this genre-twisting oeuvre.

Wright has called this movie the last in a trilogy, and what unites the three is that each is a sendup though a loving one of a genre: "Shaun" is a zombie film, "Hot Fuzz" a buddy cop movie, and "The World's End" one of those bittersweet coming-home films that show how difficult it is to really, well, go home. Because it's never the same.

We begin with a flashback: On the last day school in 1990, five mates in the nondescript village of Newton Haven attempt the Golden Mile, an epic, 12-pub crawl. But they fall short and never make it to the final watering hole, called, fittingly, "The World's End."

Flash forward 20 years, and Gary (Pegg), their onetime leader, has a plan: Rally the boys "just like the Five Musketeers," he notes to conquer the Golden Mile once and for all.

"It's about closure," he declares. For some reason, they all show up.

One of the film's delights is how Pegg and Nick Frost, his masterfully funny co-star in all three films, have reversed personalities since "Hot Fuzz." Whereas Pegg was an uptight, overachieving cop there and Frost the bumbling sidekick, now it's Pegg who's the bumbler scruffy and unkempt, in a long black coat and dark shades, hilariously messed up. Frost, just as hilarious, is the pudgy, very square lawyer in thick glasses and a pressed trench coat who drinks only water on a pub crawl.

The cast of the earlier films is reunited here, along with some surprises. Paddy Considine, Martin Freeman and Eddie Marsan round out the Musketeers. There's also Sam (a lovely Rosamund Pike) she's the sister of one of the guys, the unconsummated crush of another and a former castoff of Gary's. Gary would love to pick up where they left off sex in the loo but Sam isn't keen.

But something else happens in the loo. A belligerent Gary gets into a fight with a strong young man. He accidentally beheads the guy. Wait he's a robot. Who bleeds blue ink. And has a lot of angry friends.

And the apocalypse is on. You can't go home, indeed. Not when it's being taken over by murderous aliens.

But you can have a laugh and Pegg, Wright, Frost and company certainly give us that. The trilogy may be over, but we hope a new one is beginning. We need a lot more of these guys.

"The World's End," a Focus Features release, is rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America for "pervasive language including sexual references." Running time: 109 minutes. Three stars out of four.
