i am engaged!

yes it is true, my boyfriend proposed!!

we haven't decided on a date yet,
but when we do i'll be updating again!

time has been flying by!

things have been pretty busy at work
we do a summer school program for the later half of july and the entire month of august
so i have had extra kids everyday
up to 12 kids. (normal max is 8)
so planning everything has been pretty crazy
lots of worksheets and crafts to make
as well as activities to plan and do.

last week we took a field trip to the aquarium!
it was hectic, but i think all of the kids enjoyed it
summer school ends this week
so i would say things will go back to normal
but actually i have a new student starting next week
then one more new student the week after that,
so i think it will still be pretty crazy for the next little bit.

so other than work, i've been having lots of fun
went to kyushu again twice and had more fun each time than the last
really just enjoying life right now
looking forward to the future
everyday is tiring but happy

as you well know i was sick two weeks ago
not fun at all
but luckily the week right after
(june 16-24) I had a vacation!!
hooray!!

spent the first few days of the vacation recuperating from being sick
then went to okayama to visit my bachan!
we went window shopping, went to eat sushi, and had some nice home cooking
i also decided i would try to help her clean, so i spent a day doing that.

then i went to kyushu (south japan) for a day!
met up with a friend and went on a super fun date!
went to lots of different places including a huge park with animals, a mountain lookout, the beach, and ice cream!!
overall super fun and the day ended to quickly

my vacation was already coming to a close and i had to get back home to check on maru
so i came back to nagoya
started to get ready to get back to work


also a friend of mine is moving back to the states at the end of the week
and has to leave her apartment by tomorrow
so she will be staying at my house for a few days
which is cool
but i think i should probably clean before she comes
hahaha

after getting sick i didn't really clean to much
so my house has become kind of cluttered.
gotta fix that tonight after work

felt kinda off monday night
so i went to bed early
about 10
then about 1:30 i woke up feeling very sick
and proceeded to throw up for the next 11 hours or so
called in sick to work (obviously)
and couldn't keep anything down
(although i only tried to drink water)
so by the afternoon on tuesday
i finally could keep a little water down
fever was going down too
but then the fever came back.... boo...
and called a ward member to ask if she would take me to the doctors
(people in japan go to doctors or everything, including a common cold)
but her toddler son just got chicken pox and was getting over a high fever from the night before.
i couldn't contact to many other people
and the ones that i did were busy with work
but the member with the toddler made some phone calls
and got someone to bring me to the hospital.
so sister hall came over and picked me up
we found a doctor that was open and would take me

it sounds like it was just a really nasty version of the flu kinda thing
a virus that just showed up really bad
they ended up giving me a shot that would take the fever down
and put me on an IV for my dehydration
after an hour and a half or so the drip was done
i was feeling much better than before (though still not grand)
and the gave me some different medicines to take
and told me if my fever came back to come back
they told me not to go to work the next day
so i took the next day off
tried to get some rest

so tuesday and wednesday were sick days
then i felt bad because my boss and the one other teacher had to teach my classes
so i went to work on thursday
my boss let me go home early
stayed the full day on friday
and next week i the school is closed
so i have a one week vacation to recover

everyone was really nice to me throughout this whole thing
church members called and texted me and asked if there was anything they could do
people from work brought over sports drinks and some food
the kids at school were asking me if i was ok when i got back
people of facebook were checking up on me as well

i am so blessed by the people in my life, they are all so kind to me

so now it is saturday
still tired easily, but definitely much better than before!

although i guess it is harder with the time difference and all...

maru is doing great and liking the warmer weather
she runs a lot on her wheel lately because she doesn't mind being out.
so it is fun to see her out more

i have a one week vacation coming up soon
ver excited for that
going to go down and visit my bachan
then going down japan further and visiting some friends
some girls that were serving missions in my ward here have since gone home
one girl just went home this week
and she was in my specific ward for a year and three months
(out of her year and a half mission. hahaha)
so i got to become good friends with her
so that should be fun

i am loving the nice weather, not to hot yet
it will get really hot later in the summer
but for now it is nice
although the mosquitos decided they are going to start coming out already
so that is kind of a bummer
already got some bites
gotta change my eating habits to keep them away
more green veggies, B something vitamins and garlic right?
well, we'll see
maybe i should just bathe in bug repellent haha

but thats ok

the ysa conference was SUPER fun!
we took the train with another girl from my ward
and rode for an hour to get there

the place we stayed at was right next to the ocean
so pretty!
so after various welcomes and announcements
we were told what our rooms arrangements were
tasha and i were in the same room with seven other girls
9 girls in all
everyone was super nice!

we did various activities
building a campfire to make curry and rice
making udon noodles from scratch
there was a dance party
and free time for 'dates'
and 'group date' time

the date times were optional and mostly just people talking to each other
or reading the scriptures together
there were also seminars to attend

we made small groups of three or four to eat together with
and would eat with them at every meal
tasha was invited by some other girls
so i went with some of my other friends

on the last day during 'date time' a bunch of us got together
and went out to the beach
there were so many animals at the beach!
crabs, sea urchins, sea cucumbers, sea slugs, clams, little fish, and washed up jellyfish
so we walked around and looked at the different animals
and stuck our feet in the water
i got just a touch sunburned on one arm haha

before i knew it, the conference was over
and it was time to go home
i hope tasha had as much fun as i did
i made lots of new friends

well, the end of the conference also meant something else...
golden week was almost over!
so on tuesday i said goodbye to tasha
and she left for her study abroad
and i was back at work

the new boy is getting more used to coming into school
and the other kids are all learning everyday

so this week is golden week!!
hooray!!

a little over a week before golden week my cousin Tasha came to japan!
she is doing a study abroad, but decided to come a little earlier than she had to
and come play with me!

so last week she came to work with me and got to see all the kids
we went out to eat at some different places and tried some different foods

last saturday at church they had a 'big cleaning day'
so we went and helped clean the building
afterwards we went to Sakae with the sister missionaries
and did a little shopping, took some purikura pictures and had a gyoza lunch!
super yummy and fun!

Sunday we were invited over to Reiko's (a ward member's) house
after church I got home taught
then we got a ride over
we had a somen lunch (yummy!!)
then we played with Reiko's little boy Sky for a while
(so cute)
and we played some new super mario brothers
then we helped her make dinner
we had korokke!
so tasha got to help make them and that was a fun experience
and they were very yummy!!

Monday was the start of my golden week vacation
we went with the sister missionaries to the Nagoya Port Aquarium!
lots of fun and saw lots of fish!
and a dolphin show!
and BELUGAS!!!! so cute!!!!
took pictures there too
after we went to the aquarium we went to Cat's Garden Cafe
and got a giant parfait to split between the four of us
it was in a pitcher!
but us being four girls went through it without a problem
haha

Tuesday we went out shopping and I bought some new clothes!
hopefully they will help me be cute
haha
that night we were invited over to dinner from a family in my ward
we made gyoza! it was very fun
the kids all helped make them too
and the sister missionaries were invited over
so we saw them again haha
we ate and talked and it was really yummy!

yesterday was wednesday and we took it slow
went out later in the day to go get dinner
and went to Fujiya and got pasta and parfaits!
haha yes more parfaits
then we went to eikaiwa (english class) that the sister missionaries teach
(so we saw them again )
and we learned english! haha, actually no, I usually go to learn Japanese
they explain a lot of things to the native japanese speakers in japanese
and what things mean and such
so i learn a lot of japanese that way

today is thrusday
this morning we are up and getting ready to go
the 3-5 is a YSA (young single adult) conference for the Aichi area
so we are going to that
it should be lots of fun

we got to choose different activities to sign up for
and i figured since tasha is just visiting japan
maybe japanese type things would be cool
so even though they had lots of different things to choose from
the activities we will be doing are
making rice the old fashioned way
and making udon (noodles) from scratch!
I figure both of those are pretty japanese-y
so hopefully tasha would enjoy them

we had our 'graduation' on tuesday the 27th
only one student was actually leaving the school
the rest were staying for the new year


new school year started on monday (april 2)
and i only had one new student come in
he has been crying on and off getting used to preschool
and the kids keep asking where the other girl went.

but overall it is going pretty well

here in japan the start of the new year is in april
not september
so right now is the time to be getting ready for graduations
and writing report cards
and checking students levels

i've been super busy with work trying to get all that stuff done
and will keep working hard at it until the end of the month
most of my preschool kids are staying though,
so it is not really so much of a graduation
as an end of the year ceremony,
but that is ok, still so much to plan
and get ready for the new school year

this next week is level checks for all the after school english kids
which for me means testing each and every one of my students individually
then filling out a form on how they did
and adding comments on behavior and skill
and meeting with there parents to talk about it.

it is different for the older classes,
they do more formal testing, pencil and paper stuff
but not me!
since i am teaching the youngest/lowest level
the kids come in one by one and get tested by yours truly!

weekends lately are me sleeping in,
then getting my laundry and grocery shopping done
actually my friend chisato has been calling me lately on weekends
and we'll go out for dinner and such.
so that is nice.
get to get out a little and go find food
she actually helped me out yesterday
we went and got me an iphone! yay!!
after we went and looked at some covers.
i got a stitch screen protector and cute cover to match
stuck some stitch stickers on it

i'll have to figure out how to use the phone over the next few days,
but it is cool to have!

i had also been going to the dentist here in japan
i hadn't gone since before i went off to school
so it had been quite a while
and i had some cavities
so i had been going what seemed like weekly
for the last month and a half or so
(they only do a little at a time)
but this last week finally finished with that
so i won't have to worry about that taking up time.

cant believe it is already the middle of march.
it has actually been just over a year since i came to japan
it has gone so fast!
i'm still loving it here and want to stay longer
and i will hehe
so i'll write more of my times in japan in this coming year.

this week my boss is out of town
so the classes he usually teaches need to be taught by someone else
me!!
and with some random switching around with the other teacher
we have somehow come up with a schedule
so i am staying in a little later than usual at work this week
teaching classes i don't usually teach
which means older classes
as i usually only teach the preschool
and the lowest level classes

so we will see how it goes
it wasn't to bad today
so hopefully the rest of the week will follow suite :P
