BMIの計算
BMIはBMI =体重(kg)÷身長(m^2)で求められ
次のように175.3cmは1.753mで計算する。
例)男性:身長1.753m,体重97.1kg
BMI=97.1÷(1.753)^2＝31.6

この容易に得られたインデックスは全原因死亡指数曲線と関係があり重要である。適度でない体重増加のBMI増加により服用量危険、心血管の合併症(高血圧症と脳卒中を含む)、癌、糖尿病、アルツハイマー病、胆石、睡眠無呼吸、骨関節炎および腎臓病が増加する。
アメリカで成人を対象に行われた14年間の100万人を超える大きな前向き研究は、BMIおよび死の危険の関係を明らかにした。
