Many trends have started here on the Left Coast and migrated east across the United States. Add to that list this latest entry: Chihuahuas.

Yes friends, we apparently have too many of the little toe-nippers, and rather than just continue to euthanize them in our already overcrowded county animal shelters -- where they apparently surpass pit bulls as the No. 1 dog calling a county cell home -- to other parts of the country, places that Paris Hilton and her have only flown over.

The problem is this: Turned into a pop-culture icon by dogs like the aforementioned teacup Tinkerbell and Bruiser, Reese Witherspoon's pink-clad accessory in "Legally Blonde," the breed's popularity grew and the fickle public being the fickle public, well, the bulging-eyed pups followed those 101 Dalmatians right to doggie death row: the public animal shelters. Los Angeles animal shelters report about 300 Chihuahuas are turned in each month; similar numbers are reported in the Bay Area.

But placing blame aside, when Californians and their dogs have a problem, we know how to fix it: We call in a celebrity -- in this case actress Katharine Heigl -- who coughed up $25,000 to fly a gaggle of Chihuahuas from L.A. to the Humane Society for Greater Nashua (HSGN) in New Hampshire. Not once,专业手镯零售，实惠的价格，超赞的品质。, but twice -- with maybe more doggie relocations to follow.

And it worked,专业加工/制作/批发/零售玛瑙手镯/手环，纯天然手镯. The New Hampshire animal shelter director told PeoplePets that they had more than 40 voice mails the day after the dogs arrived and the initial batch of 25 dogs were all in new homes within a day.

The dogs were bathed,专业加工/制作/批发/零售玛瑙手镯/手环，专业手镯批发, sterilized, tested for heart worms and fitted with little coats before their flight, Kathy Davis, interim general manager of Los Angeles Animal Services, The operation was so successful that the city flew out a second batch, bringing the total to about 70 dogs relocated. (No word on how the sun-worshipping SoCal pooches are faring thus far in the New England winter weather, but like many Angelenos, we suspect they would have preferred Hawaii.)

And like any good idea, it was bound to spread like a bag of knocked-over Kibble. SpcaLA, a local private rescue organization announced plans to transport 35 Chihuahuas to new adoptive homes in Colorado this week. Pet Airways, the animals-only airline that launched earlier this year, has apparently offered a discounted fare. Colorado shelters, it seems, are more the country's norm -- filled with larger dogs, some of them bully breeds, with few smaller dogs available for adoption. California's Chihuahua glut is the rest of the country's scarcity, so why not spread them around?

Now if we could only distribute other surpluses the same way.
相关的主题文章:

手镯零售，实惠的价格，超赞的品质。 Netflix Plays a Sarah Pal

专业玛瑙手镯零售 Kazakhstan

专业加工/制作/批发/零售玛瑙手镯/手环，实惠的价格，超赞的品质

That, of course, is a lesson you might learn the hard way if you carry a balance on a high-interest credit card. But spending beyond your means can be a pricey proposition even with a debit card.

Bankrate.com released its , assessing the fees charged for various services associated with checking accounts. Perhaps the most notable finding was that only 39% of banks offer totally free checking with no minimum balance requirements, down from 45% in 2011. (With that said, customers have become adept at finding ways to get their checking services for free checking, with 59% of Americans recently reporting that they .)

But in addition to those findings, the checking account survey contained a good reminder to banking customers: The costliest thing you can do with your checking account is to overdraft your account while signed up for overdraft protection.

Sure,专业加工制作玛瑙手镯, your wallet can suffer death by a thousand cuts if you get charged for monthly maintenance fees (which average $5.48 a month, up 25% over last year,纯天然手镯, according to Bankrate) or use out-of-network ATMs ($2.50 to the ATM owner and $1.57 to your own bank, on average). But the biggest single fee remains the dreaded nonsufficient funds (NSF) fee, which now averages $31.26.

A new study by found that "overdrafts made a strong comeback," increasing 2.1 percent to $31.5 billion for the year ending June 30, 2012, from $30.8 billion in June 30, 2011. The $700 million bump up came from an increase in price and a decrease in the number of overdrafts.

The category of fee includes both bounced checks and overdraft protection on your debit card,手镯零售, but the takeaway is the same: If you try to spend money you don't have, your already meager balance will get hit hard.
The last time I checked -- oh, about 20 seconds ago -- I have 1,981 songs stashed on iTunes in my MacBook Pro. Ah, the perks of being a former music critic; all the CDs I own fill five of those huge, tubs in my basement.

But can a music-mad journalist and studio musician ever have enough melody packed into his smartphone? And can you, for that matter, afford to be without affordable music you can download at a moment's notice?

OK, so I can tell you all about the history of the MP3 file format. (Once upon a time, a German scientist named Karlheinz Brandenburg helped develop it for motion pictures in the 1990s). But do I know much about the best MP3 bargains out there? Well, you might say on that score, I'm the pocketbook equivalent of tone deaf.

That established, being a music junkie has its advantages -- mainly that I'm very, very motivated to learn all that I can about the ins and outs of music downloading on the cheap. Or, if you prefer, think of me as John Lennon singing, "Gimme money! That's what I want!" Hey, I sure as hell would like to... except you can't find The Beatles on any music download service. The legal ones, anyway. And with that musical intro, let's launch this latest installment of the Savings Experiment. By the way, I want to send a shout-out to some of my fave MP3 perks, right here on AOL: , and . While we're at it, let's not forgetthe , , and . Awesomely tuneful!

On the surface, Rhapsody offers what seems to be a sweet deal: Pay one flat monthly subscription fee,玛瑙手镯批发, and listen to all the music you want on your laptop or mobile device, out of a catalog of some 9 million-plus songs. But when i did my digging, I found some flies in the Rhapsody ointment (more on that in a bit).

Here's how it works: You get a free subscription for 14 days, and after that pay $9.99 a month (Rhapsody Premier) or $14.99 a month (Premier Plus). The only difference is that the Plus version allows you access from 3 mobile devices or MP3 players instead of one. Otherwise, you get unlimited online listening in a library you set up on Rhapsody; "subscription downloads" are also unlimited, but I had trouble identifying exactly what a "subscription download" is. Otherwise, it appeared to me that most downloaded MP3s that you want to own still cost 99 cents (technically, 69 cents to $1,.29). You can also stream music,专业玛瑙手镯零售, too.

My brief experience with Rhapsody made me feel like I'd just listened to one of those obnoxious Ting Tings songs about 100 times in a row. There's plenty not to like if you're a Mac user, as everything -- from the Rhapsody player itself to the visual interface for managing your music files -- is really made for PC users.

What's more, navigating the site for those "unlimited subscription downloads" proved fruitless after an hour. From everything I could see, it still costs you money to download songs to own on Rhapsody. It's a great deal, admittedly, if you want to set up an online music library with gajillions of songs for one flat fee. But guess what? You don't own the songs. Cancel your subscription, and that library becomes locked (though Rhapsody will offer you Premier Plus for just $9.99 if you try to go away).

So far as I could tell, this means you have to keep paying and paying monthly fees to hear your music. And like so many music fans, I just want to get my songs, move them around the way I like and be done with it; if I want "free songs in a library," I'll borrow CDs from the public library and burn them to iTunes. Speaking of which ...

I give the folks at Apple a lot of credit; in the days after the record industry shut down "Napster 1.0" (remember when songs on Napster were free?), no one thought a paid download service for MP3s could work. Hooey. Not only does iTunes work, but it also takes a minimal amount of learning curve to use. I could teach my 5-year-old daughter to download from iTunes. I am still waiting for a Ph.D. (Dr. Feelgood, I presume), to show up at my house and tell me how to navigate Rhapsody.

We all know the model by now; you can download most songs on iTunes for 99 cents, and albums $9.99. Of recent, premium songs now go for $1.29, and premium albums $12.99, but hey: There's no subscription model to worry about, and the application for your computer or smarthphone doesn't cost anything. At last count, iTunes featured more than 13 million songs -- and with Home Sharing, you can browse the iTunes libraries of up to five authorized computers in your house, import what you like, and automatically add new purchases made on any of the computers to your own library. I'm liking that hook, baby.

I also like that the iTunes player on my laptop can patch me in straight to the iTunes store, though I do find the iTunes "music genius" feature to be somewhat of a pain. I once asked it to make me a mix, from my library, of punk rock. Somehow, a mellow acoustic track got in there. Talk about harshing my mosh.

What's more, the iTunes app forms the all-important bridge between the music you buy and the music you already own. I love that the system allows me to take songs from my CDs and stuff them into the same library that my purchased MP3s reside. This strikes me as how most of us listen to music, as opposed to some website on the Internet that stores music for me, divorced from my CD collection and the MP3s I spawn from it.

The search functions of iTunes couldn't be easier or more thorough. I recently had a bee in my bonnet to find a lost Lightning Seeds album (lost to me, anyway) that I first heard in Hong Kong in 1996. It was a sublime pop masterpiece, and in many trips to record stores since -- including an HMV in London -- I could not recall or discover its title. But after 45 seconds on iTunes, I found it: "Jollification." And about five minutes of downloading later, I owned it.

But is iTunes the cheapest option on the block? Hardly. Let's explore some other music services.

Rolling Stone Magazine called eMusic, "The cheaper, cooler cousin of iTunes." Then again, Rolling Stone also once rated Prince's "Little Red Corvette" as a better all-time single than The Beatles' "Hey Jude." So let's see if we can get some journalistic clarity and objectivity happening here.

True, eMusic has a sizable library, but not as big as its competitors (more than 7 million tracks). And the service has its downfalls; monthly downloads that you pay for in their subscription model don't roll over if you fail to use them. That's harsh, considering that they have your money already.

Still, the pricing levels (which work like cellphone plans) are hard to beat. All the options below give you 45 free downloads the first month:

* Trial: 25 free downloads in seven days, yours to keep

* Basic: 24 songs for $11.99 per month (50 cents per song)

* Plus: 35 songs for $15.89 per month (45 cents per song)

.................................................

We need your input for an upcoming WalletPop feature ...

Your submission will be considered for inclusion in our article!

* Premium: 50 songs for $20.79 per month (42 cents per song)

* Connoisseur: 75 songs for $30.99 per month (41 cents per song)

Aye, music matey, Connoisseur's your best value if you subscribe -- but remember, you'll have to average five downloads every two days to make this monthly option work to its fullest. Let's say you slack off and only download five songs in a month. Then you'll pay a whopping $6.20 a song. Talk about music piracy!

Let's face it: Napster will never be the headline-grabber it was back in the day when, as the scrappy creation of college student Shawn Fanning, it gave away all that music for nothing. Today it's owned by Best Buy. Sheesh. Still, the world's first peer-to-peer file sharing network has evolved into a legit place to buy songs, with more than 10 million titles in its catalog. The plans work like this, all allowing you to listen online to the entire catalog:

* Annual Pass: 60 MP3s for $5 a month ($1 a song plus online listening)

* 3-month Pass: 15 MP3s for $5 a month ($1 a song plus online listening)

* 1-month Pass: 5MP3s for $7 a month ($1.40 a song plus online listening)

Similar in price to iTunes, Amazon's MP3 service offers most songs between 89-99 cents; most albums are between $5.99 and $9.99. One handy feature is the the Amazon MP3 Downloader (available for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux); this helper application allows you to download entire albums with one click and automatically adds your music to iTunes or Windows Media Player. It also has ongoing $5 album specials featuring artists such as Katy Perry, John Mayer, Kings of Leon and Norah Jones.

Pandora has come a long way since I first reviewed it for the Chicago Tribune in 2006. For the uninitiated, Pandora is based on the Music Genome project, which develops playlists for you based on suggestions you feed into it. There's an iPhone app for it, too, and I'm happy to report that it also deserves a thumbs-up review. You'll have to sign up for a Pandora account (it's free) and play with the program a bit to get the hang of skipping some of Pandora's suggestions to get the right mix for you. But once you're acclimated, Pandora will feed you great music with all the obedience of a four-star waiter. Plus you can buy the songs you truly love. Compared to Rhapsody, it works more like a radio station,专业加工/制作/批发/零售玛瑙手镯/手环，专业玛瑙手镯零售, or a monstrously huge iPod on shuffle.

You get free streaming of music for up to 40 hours a month on Pandora. Unlimited streaming costs $2 a month.

Here's a great option for folks who like to be their own deejays. Grooveshark is a playlist-based program that's free; if you want to operate it via smartphone, it costs $3 a month. You not only create your own lists, but can view other people's song lineups, too. Signing up is a snap, and the user interface is elegant and simple to use -- a walk in the park compared to Rhapsody. (Do you sense a theme here in my dislike for Rhapsody?) I had music going on Grooveshark, signup and all, in less that 90 seconds. You'll have to mess with it a bit to get the hang of playing and uploading, but in less time than it took to write this paragraph, I was grooving to the Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations" -- and had a Beach Boys playlist going.

Is there a catch? Well, you can operate an iPod or anything you download without wireless or Internet access. But in the case of Grooveshark -- as well as Pandora, Napster's online listening and Rhapsody -- you need that all-important web connection. Otherwise, you'll be singing the "Can't Get No Cyber-satisfaction for My Eardrums Blues." By yourself. With not so much as a cowbell to keep time.

Then again, there's always that Sony Walkman collecting mold in your basement.

THE FINAL VERDICT: WHO'S YOUR MUSE?
The eMusic subscription model has the best deal going for paid downloads, so long as you remember to use up all your downloads in a month. For its ubiquity and enormous library, iTunes comes in second; let's hope Apple adopts some sort of similar subscription model in the future, though it's not likely.

Grooveshark really lives up to its name in terms of the free streaming services, though I would have to say that if you like serendipity and expanding your musical horizons, I would well advise you to give Pandora a shot. I love it.

A final shout out to the streams of two of the coolest alternative-oriented radio stations in America: in Santa Monica and in Philadelphia. These eclectic outlets have done more to broaden and deepen the tastes of music lovers everywhere that any FM spots I can think of -- plus WXPN has the dulcet-voiced Michaela Majoun, whom I've had a "deejay crush" on for years. If you have a smartphone, download the free apps for WXPN and KCRW now, and prepare to have the folks behind those stations rock your world.
相关的主题文章:

专业加工/制作/批发/零售玛瑙手镯/手环，玛瑙手镯批发 10 Everyd

专业玛瑙手镯批发，实惠的价格，超赞的品质。 Total

手镯 Japan stocks advance on exporters, resource sector - Ma

专业手镯零售，实惠的价格，超赞的品质。 Gene Patent Showdown

Should a company get to patent your genetic DNA,专业手镯零售，实惠的价格，超赞的品质。? That is the question when it comes to Myriad Genetics Inc. (NASDAQ: MYGN). This company and its stock are at the center of a multi-year debate that is coming to a head now. Myriad has seen its shares gyrate based upon headlines and today is a classic example of this as the argument is up for debate today at the Supreme Court.

A headline called "Supreme Court Justices Skeptical Extracted Human DNA Could Be Patented" from Dow Jones was when the shares were up almost 5% and then the shares were up 7.5% at $28.06. Frankly, we are surprised that the stock was even allowed to trade today at all. FDA panel decision days are usually met with stock halts to prevent information leaks and to prevent abnormal trading on that day. It should have probably been the same for such an important case at the Supreme Court level.

If you apply patent law to biotech and to traditional business law, it seems pretty clear. The method to reach an end can be patented. The blend of compounds or ingredients have also withstood patent fights. Patenting an idea has been hard to do. Pfizer patented Viagra for erectile dysfunction, but it did not win a patent on curing erectile dysfunction. Lipitor had a patent for cholesterol treatment,专业手镯零售, but the broad treatment of lowering cholesterol was not the patent.

Patenting compounds of how you would target,手镯零售，实惠的价格，超赞的品质。, analyze, and even how you would mutate or alter genes would seem to be a fair and comparable patent test. Simply patenting an isolated gene, that is another matter entirely.

Mryiad's future is not entirely hung up on this case, but the whenever this ruling is made it will decide the fate of many future genes and genetic analysis for what could be more than decade. As it stands today, Thomson Reuters has estimates as follows:

At the time we stopped this article Myriad Genetics was up 5.8% at $27.62 against a 52-week trading range of $22.02 to $31.80 and against a consensus analyst range from Thomson Reuters of $30.30.

Filed under: 24/7 Wall St. Wire, Corporate Governance, Healthcare, Law, Regulation Tagged: featured, MYGN
相关的主题文章:

专业玛瑙手镯批发 m

手镯零售 3. Here,手镯批发, our experts discuss ways to repurpose common objects that are both useful in the kitchen and budget-friendly.

For instance, when you buy a bunch of oranges, think twice before tossing those mesh produce bags. With three of them you can make a handy and effective scrub sponge for free. First,手镯零售, cut off the tags and labels. Then, take a bag and tie a knot on one end. Next, stuff it with two more bags, and then knot the other end. You'll have a great scrubber in seconds.

Fruit flies are a nuisance,专业加工制作手镯, but a 2-liter soda bottle can help you get rid of them fast. Take an empty bottle and cut it in half. Fill the bottom half with sugar water and place on the counter. Then, take the top half and invert it before setting it into the bottom piece. Flies will go in, but they'll never come out.

Ketchup bottles are also handy in the kitchen. When the condiment is gone, rinse out the bottle and fill it with pancake batter to make a that will allow you to make breakfast with ease.

Do you have the need to separate egg yolks from their whites? You'll never break a yolk again using this . Simply crack an egg into a dish and have an empty water bottle handy. Turn the bottle upside down and gently squeeze before placing the mouth over the yolk. When you're ready, release your grip from the bottle to create suction. The yolk will easily get sucked into the bottle. Just lightly squeeze again to place the yolk into another bowl without it breaking.

These are just a few great ways to reuse common items that you might otherwise throw away.
We're called consumers because we like to shop. And we're doing plenty of it, despite the recession.

A new survey sponsored by the Consumer Federation of America and American Savings Education Council found that more of us are living beyond our means and failing to save enough for emergencies or retirement. We're also doing less to build home equity.

Some of us are fighting that trend by using for slashing debt. But if the data is to be believed, more are answering the siren call of store-specific retail credit cards that trade initial discounts for huge interest charges.

The Lure of the Store Discount

Chances are you've been pitched a retail card more than once. Usually it goes something like this: "Will you be saving 10% using your [name of store] card today?" The hope is you'll find the prospect of a discount alluring enough to sign up.

Some deals sound really good. Consider Target's () REDcard, which promises a 5% discount on all shopping. You also get free shipping for goods purchased through Target's website and have the option of enrolling in bonus programs that kick back payments to local schools and provide additional savings on non-prescription pharmacy spending. It's a decent deal, if you pay attention to the fine print.

The trick is to know the limitations to the bonuses being pitched and to never, ever use one of these cards to carry a balance. Here's a brief list of considerations:

The best retail cards combine generous benefits with reasonable grace periods for paying balances and industry-standard interest rates. Does Amazon.com's () Rewards Visa measure up? That's the question before us today in this ongoing series examining the out there.

3 things to know About Amazon's Rewards Visa

If you use Amazon to shop for goods and gifts, you've probably been pitched the company's Rewards Visa. Here's a closer look at the benefits and bugaboos:

1. Tiered earnings. As with , Amazon doles out points based on how you spend. Each dollar spent at Amazon kicks off three points, while gas, drugstore, and restaurant purchases provide two points per dollar spent. All other categories provide one point per buck. Collect 100 points and take $1 off your next Amazon order. You can also choose gift cards or cash back,纯天然手镯, or use your points for travel.

2. Instant credit. Like most retail cards, Amazon sets out the bait for consumers with the promise of instant cash. A rebate, in this case: $50 deposited directly into your account and redeemable for anything you can buy at the online store. You could also instantly redeem for a gift card.

3. Layers of fees. While the Rewards Visa doesn't include an annual fee, be sure to stay within your limits and avoid late payments. Tardy payments kick off anywhere from $15 to $35 in fees, depending on the size of the balance. You won't pay a fee for exceeding your limit if you've got the signature card -- designed for those with excellent credit -- but others can expect to pay $35 for those errors. In either case, the interest rate rises to at least 19.24% and as much as 29.9% if you fail to act responsibly in using the card.

You also don't need the Rewards Card in order to use points for Amazon.com shopping,玛瑙手镯批发，实惠的价格，超赞的品质。. American Express (AXP) has partnered with the retailer so that those enrolled in its Membership Rewards program can redeem directly to save on purchases.

This is the Right Card For You If ...

Apply for this card if you routinely use Amazon to shop for gifts and goods, or if you like the idea of earning credits for redeeming gift cards to be used in your shopping elsewhere. A few hundred dollars of monthly purchases at the site could result in sizable bonuses.

But that's also the best-case scenario. Get careless and you'll pay a minimum of 13.24% in interest on your balances, and that's only if you have excellent credit. The rate can also shift over time as national rates go higher and lower. And then, of course, there's the near-30% penalty rate. Pay it, and you'll have wasted all the benefits of having the card in the first place.
Be smarter than that. Amazon may offer one of the best retail cards out there, but it's also the best in a bad category that trades short-term, cheap discounts for heavy fees and outrageous interest rates.

What credit cards do you use?
With 2011 fast coming to a close, it's time to think about what's next -- if you dare.

The good news is, there's less talk among the experts of a double-dip recession. But there's also little sign that it's time to pop the champagne cork. The general expectation is for the economy to grow between 2% and 2.5% in 2012 -- not great, but better than no growth.

Some are even more pessimistic. In the recently released annual , 38% of financial executives at U.S. companies said they expected the U.S. economy to expand in 2012, down from 56% in last year's survey and 66% the year before. But only 7% predicted layoffs, and some 46% plan to hire -- the same percentage as planned to in 2011. And 36% said credit had gotten easier to access, compared to 28% last year.

So, there are positive signs, but uncertainly looms large. In the recent , 30% of respondents said they believed 2012 would be better than 2011, 28% said it would be worse and 32% said about the same.

"Next year will be more about the middle and less about the extremes that we've suffered in 2011," says Mark Lamkin, CEO of Lamkin Wealth Management. Over the last four years, the markets had 2% declines about 100 times more than any other time in S&P history. It also recorded 2% daily gains more times that ever before. "Unprecedented was the norm in 2011. Next year will be a year of meeting in the middle."

Expect a modest, but sustained, recovery. The economy won't fire on all cylinders though, predicted Alan Levenson, chief economist for T. Rowe Price: There are too many "what ifs?"

Here's a look at some of the factors that will help determine the fate of 2012.

The Job Market

With unemployment still stuck near 9%, inquiring minds want to know whether 2012 will bring any real relief for job seekers? It may be too close to call. "Job growth picks up in the second half of 2012, but the unemployment rate is expected to be little changed in the fourth quarter of 2012 versus the fourth quarter of this year," said Levenson.

Eurozone Crisis

The European sovereign debt crisis won't be solved over night. Some experts are forecasting a mild recession on the Continent, but others go a step further. "Europe will enter a deeper recession with some of the PIIGS [Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Greece and Spain] defaulting and credit downgrades of some major European banks and governments," says Bill Garrett of Garrett Financial.

The European Central Bank is likely to do either a quantitative easing program, a TARP-style program, or a Eurobond deal if Germany approves, or perhaps a combination of these. "This will put Europe in recession, but avoid a run on banks and a Lehman style event," says Lamkin.

China Taps the Brakes

Slowing demand from China, combined with Beijing's ongoing money-tightening measures, is prompting concern that this vital engine of economic activity may lose momentum at an inopportune time for the rest of the world, said Scott Berg, portfolio manager of T. Rowe Price's Global Large-Cap Stock Fund.

Stock Market Oscillations

For the equities markets, there's just one word -- volatility. The elections, congressional gridlock, and the European debt crisis will be the chief stirrers of the uncertainty pot. "Look for more of the same," says Mickey Cargile, founder and managing partner of Cargile Investment Management. "Investors will need to be patient and have the courage not to bail out of the stock market. I've never seen a stock market that wants to go up as much as this."

Lamkin is optimistic: "With record earnings in the S&P 500 this year, earnings get even better and as confidence returns the P/E's expand for the market," he says. "This leads to a total return in stocks of 8% to 12% for 2012."

Bond Market Inversions

"Risky bonds [will] become 'safe' and 'safe' [will] become risky," predicts Lamkin. "Fixed income bonds face headwinds of higher rates before year's end, six months ahead of the Fed's schedule."

Municipal bonds won't have as good a year in 2012 as they did in 2011, but because of a favorable supply and demand outlook, they should post mid-single-digit gains, says Lamkin.

The government and corporate bond yield gap will narrow, says Frank Fantozzi,专业加工/制作/批发/零售玛瑙手镯/手环，纯天然手镯, CEO of Planned Financial Services. The performance gap between government and corporate bonds will reverse in 2012, with corporate bonds outperforming as they post modest single-digit gains as interest rates rise and credit spreads narrow. He says bond yields may be volatile within a 1.7% to 3% range, but he expects them to rise over the course of the year, with the yield on the 10-year Treasury ending the year around 3%.

Ongoing economic growth will help normalize interest rates, as will a continuation of Fed policy, stable inflation and tightening fiscal policy. The wide gaps between yield on government bonds and other bonds are likely to converge some in 2012, says Fantozzi.

Gold Keeps Going

2011 was a bull year for gold, with record prices topping $1,900. Will they keep rising in 2012? David Morgan, publisher of The Morgan Report, which focuses on money, metals and mining, believes precious metals will continue to rise because of the inability of the global financial system to do anything other than take the "easiest" way out of the Eurozone debt crisis: debasing the euro, rather than letting massive debt defaults occur.

"I do expect a soft first quarter of 2012," says Morgan. "More consolidation through the summer and higher prices by year end. $60 silver by year end 2012 and gold over $2400. But it may take a year to get to those prices."

"If the euro problem does not get resolved in some meaningful way, gold could begin its move much earlier and faster," says Morgan.

Cargile, on the other hand, says there is no reason to buy gold. "Gold produces no income; it depends on someone buying it for more than you paid. It's a manipulated market, and volatile."

Politics As Usual

The U.S. credit rating downgrade was largely caused by political intransigence, and as we roll toward the November elections, it will get harder and harder for the opposing parties in Washington to find common ground. "Political gridlock will continue," says Cargile. "It's working for them, but it isn't for us."

But there's the possibility that as the election nears, Obama and the GOP nominee will leave behind the extremes and meet in the middle, which business likes, says Lamkin. "If voters vote accordingly, the most important budget decisions since World War II will be made with the right candidates with a bipartisan banner. After the election, I believe the market will have a strong fourth quarter based on this meeting in the middle and optimistic outlook."

Housing Begins Its Rebound

The first half of 2012 may be the last great opportunity to purchase a home at the lowest market prices we have seen in many years, and at the lowest interest rates we can remember, says Scott Cramer, endowment strategist and president of Cramer & Rauchegger.

From October 2010 to October 2011, the inventory of existing homes for sale dropped from 3.8 million homes to 3.3 million. That's still an excess of inventory, but we could see a major jump in home sales next year as banks realize that the homes they are holding on to will sell, giving them an incentive to release their inventory more quickly, he says. This could lead to the beginning of a slight increase in home prices by late 2012. The Fed also stated recently that it could ease off its commitment to leave interest rates unchanged until 2013, and could slightly increase rates before the end of 2012.

The Smart Moves for You in 2012

So what does all this mean to you? The experts weighed in on smart moves to make in light of the conventional wisdom about what to expect next year.

• Seek dividends: One problem companies share with individuals is that their bank deposits aren't making them any money. So some of those earnings are getting paid out in dividends to shareholders. There are many solid, well-run companies with great balance sheets paying more than 4% on an annual basis.

&bull,手镯批发，实惠的价格，超赞的品质。; Consider small and mid-cap U.S. stocks: These should provide attractive returns for investors in 2012, in part due to mergers and acquisitions activity powered by large corporate cash reserves.

• Skip emerging markets ... or not: The jury's still out on emerging markets. Some experts say to avoid them, "Buy domestic, not emerging markets or Europe. Buy what you understand. U.S. corporations are strong," says Cargile. But other experts think they're returns will exceed those of developed markets. Long term, emerging markets offer intriguing growth prospects.

&bull,纯天然玛瑙手镯，实惠的价格，超赞的品质。; Get creative: You may have dismissed bonds because with a fixed income vehicle, the interest rate is locked in and principal will be negatively impacted by inflation. However, a step-up bond starts with one rate, then increases after a period of time. This gives the fixed income investor a degree of inflation protection, says Cary Guffey, a financial adviser with NBC Securities.

• Keep up good habits: The recession tamed consumer spending, sparked saving and inspired us to pay down debt. Don't stop in 2012. Start or continue building your emergency fund until you have at least six months of living expenses stashed. Diversify. Stay cool when it comes to the stock market. The wild ride is far from over. Rethink any rash moves motivated by emotions.

Mostly, be ready for anything.

Correction: A previous version of this story referred to Mickey Cargile's firm as WNB Private Client Service.
