“Soft wrinkles, a unique characteristic of Chirimen crepe are created by alternating two types of silk threads, twisted in different directions, by turns in the weft.

The elaborate weaving technique arrived in Japan in the late sixteenth century. At that time, the light texture and presentation of colors created by the wrinkles merged with the world-famous Yuzen dyeing process in the town of Kimono, Kyoto. The high fashion born in Kyoto diffused throughout Japan.

Elaborately woven and dyed, a kimono is passed down from mother to daughter to granddaughter. Even the waste pieces of a kimono are beloved and inherited. Mothers taught sewing dresses for their dolls and bags using same cloth as the kimono.

These goods are made of such traditional Chirimen crepe.
