Alice Nine

Against my better judgment (I have around 6 hours before my annotated bibliography is due for my English class), I have decided to blog about one of my favorite Visual 系 bands today.

Alice Nine is a 5 member band that started in 2004.

Vocals: 将
1st Guitar: ヒロト
2nd Guitar: 虎
Bass:　沙我
Drums: Nao

I have been an Alice Nine fan for almost 2 years now. One of my favorite things about this band is the fact that they are always experimenting with new sounds. While some fans have been unhappy with changes in their sound, I find it refreshing. I especially love how they have been incorporating dance beats into their songs (RAINBOWS and 華【hæ･nə】). I also love the fact that the band is constantly improving their skills. 将's vocals definitely were not the best during the start of this band. But his vocals have improved by miles since the band first started 5 years ago. The drums have also improved a lot as well. The fact that the band has improved so much just shows their dedication to their music.

I also love how Alice Nine has 3 people who mainly write the music, ヒロト, 沙我 and 虎. Each of them have a unique sound and style in their songwriting. This allows for a lot of variety and range in their music.

I almost forgot, the guitar solos in Alice Nine songs are amazing. о(ж＞▽＜)ｙ ☆

I first found out about Alice Nine through the internet. I decided to check them out after I bought an issue of SHOXX that feature them on the cover. During that time, Alice Nine had just recently released their second album.

When I first heard Alpha, I wasn't too impressed. One of the first songs that I tried to listen to from the album was 「JEWELS」. As a first time listener to Alice Nine, I wasn't accustomed to the vocals. The song opens with 将's vocals which can sound quite overpowering. But after I gave the song another listen, I found out that it had a very beautiful melody.

From this album, I recommend listening to:

Cradle to (Alpha)
For fans of heavier sounding music, I recommend:
ZERO and -DICE-

I didn't really become an Alice Nine fan until after I listened to their single 「MIRROR BALL」.

The reason why I enjoyed this song so much was because of the complexity of the song. I also liked how the song built up. 「MIRROR BALL」 was used as a theme song for a film called Aquarian Age...but let's just say that movie is not one of my favorites.

One of my favorite Alice Nine songs was also in this single. 「イレイザー－Ｍｅｍｏｉｒｅ　ｄ’ｕｎｅ　ｆｌｅｕｒ－」 is a different version of the song 「イレイザー」 that was feature on the album Alpha.

The next single from Alice Nine was 「RAINBOWS」.

The song RAINBOWS is probably one of my absolute favorite Alice Nine songs. RAINBOWS featured a lot of dance elements. This song is fast paced and has so much energy. I really loved the PV for this song as well. It's quite flashy and well directed. The two guitar solos in the song are awesome too! I like how this song is bass heavy.

The next single was 「CROSS GAME」.

CROSS GAME 完全初回限定盤(2008年生産限定盤)(DVD付)/アリス九號.: ￥1,450; Amazon.co.jp

The title track was used as a ending theme for Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D (But I don't watch that show). The PV was not the most interesting, but I loved how everything was sepia toned.
I also really love the other tracks on the single.
【ａｔｍｏｓｐｈｅｒｅ】 is a very light sounding song and 将 uses a lot of falsetto in this song. It's great!
夢幻－ｅｌｅｃｔｒｉｃ　ｅｄｅｎ－ is a another beautiful song that uses the erhu. The vocals are also very delicate sounding as well.

The next release from Alice Nine after CROSS GAME was actually their 3rd album, VANDALIZE!!

It actually took me a year to like this album. I suppose I really didn't give it much of a try the first time I listened to it. This is my favorite Alice Nine album now.

The album is much more rock than Alpha was and features a fairly wide range of sounds.

I recommend listening to all the songs on the album! My absolute favorites from the album are:

Drella
Waterfall

Drella and www. are great for people who are fans of aggressive and heavier sounding music. The guitar solos in both songs are really amazing.

The most recent release from Alice Nine was 「華【hæ･nə】」.

華【hae・ne】(初回限定盤Type-A)(DVD付)/Alice Nine: ￥1,890; Amazon.co.jp

I love the song 華【hae・ne】 because it is so catchy. Like RAINBOWS, it features more dance elements. SLEEPWALKER was also a great song and the guitar solo had a cleaner sound than the one in 華. I preferred the PV for SLEEPWALKER over 華. The PV for 華 kind of gave me a feeling of being enclosed. SLEEPWALKER was also more interesting and everyone looked great. I think that this song had more influences from UK rock.

This was just a small sampling of Alice Nine's discography, but I definitely recommend them. Now I have to finish all my hw....ORZ

I've been listening to a lot of collabs lately! Isn't it great when some of your favorite artists work together?

Right now, I really love listening to JUJU with Jay'ed 「明日がくるなら」. I really like JUJU's clear voice!

Another great collab song was 「So Special -Version EX-」 with EXILE's ATSUSHI and AI. Their voices sound so well with each other! Personally I liked Version EX better than AI's version.

Of course, I fell in love with 「Love Forever」 with 加藤ミリや and 清水翔太! 清水翔太 has an amazing voice! It took me a while to get used to 加藤ミリや's voice because of her vibrato. She's a great artist too! I recommend listening to 「You don't know me」 from her single 「WHY」. It's a great song and good to listen to first if you aren't used to her voice yet.

Oh did you know that 清水翔太 will release his own version of 「Love Forever」? It's called 「Forever Love」!

清水翔太 also did a collab with DOUBLE. The song is called 「おやすみのキスを ~Good Night My Love~」. This song was alright...At times, DOUBLE's voice was a bit hard to listen to, especially when she hit higher notes.

What's flumpool!?

Recently, I've been listening to the band flumpool!
They recently released their first full album 「What's flumpool!?」 on December 23rd, 2009.

Even thought they are fairly recent group, this album has been doing quite well on オリコン. They managed to take the 9th place in the monthly album ranking for 12/09 even with huge sellers like EXILE's 「愛すべき未来へ」 and　安室奈美恵's 「PAST
One of my favorite songs from the album is 「MW ～Dear Mr. & Ms. ピカレスク～」. This song was used as the theme for the movie "MW" starring 玉木宏 and 山田孝之!
