Indian businessman arrested in rape of I

KOLKATA, India (AP) Police said Wednesday they have arrested a man accused of raping an Irish woman who volunteered at a children's charity in the Indian city of Kolkata.

The local businessman who was arrested will be produced in court later Wednesday, according to a police official, who said he could not be named because he wasn't authorized to speak to reporters.

The man attended a party the woman hosted to celebrate her 21st birthday late Friday, the official said. She later went to the man's house where she drank a cup of tea and passed out, then she was raped, the official said.

Few other details were immediately available.

The reported assault comes as other attacks against women have heightened concerns about sexual violence in India.

On Tuesday, police reported that an American tourist was gang-raped in the northern Indian resort town of Manali. Three men picked her up in a truck while she was hitchhiking, then drove to a secluded spot and raped her, police officer Sher Singh said.

No arrests had been made as of Tuesday afternoon, Singh said.

In March, six men were arrested in the gang-rape of a Swiss cyclist, and a British hotel guest jumped from a third-floor window fearing a sexual attack when the hotel owner tried to force his way into her room.

The fatal gang-rape of an Indian student in New Delhi in December sparked protests demanding better protection for women. The government in response passed a law increasing prison terms for rape and making voyeurism, stalking, acid attacks and the trafficking of women punishable under criminal law.

http://pytqarzs.blogdetik.com/downloads-history-of-wine-words-an-intoxicating-dictionary-of-etymology-and-word-histories-of-wine-vine-and-grape-from-the-vineyard-glass-and-bottle-e-book/
http://kmoatous.blogdetik.com/the-connaught-rangers-online/
http://eyaunfoe.blogdetik.com/breast-cancer-breakthroughs-living-longer-online/
http://goakuket.bravesites.com/entries/general/download-the-bones-of-avalon-e-book
http://yunebohip.blogdetik.com/mongolia-today-science-culture-environment-and-development-central-asian-studies/
http://wunegaff.deviantart.com/journal/Logic-Colloquium-90-ASL-Summer-Meeting-in-Helsin-374579177
http://naifura.jimdo.com/2013/05/29/47-ronin-ebook-downloads/
http://judieoze.blog.free.fr/index.php?post/2013/05/29/The-filmmaker-s-guide-to-Final-Cut-Pro-workflow-downloads
http://lissetteiaoonc.webs.com/apps/blog/show/26895446
http://arthuroi.blog.free.fr/index.php?post/2013/05/29/Downloads-Mike-Colameco-s-Food-Lover-s-Guide-to-New-York-City-ebook
http://utryprdz.blogdetik.com/strangers-kiss-ebook/
http://russelltod.skyrock.com/3165082452-The-Divorce-Lawyers-What-Happens-In-America-s-Courts-book.html
http://jezuinch.deviantart.com/journal/Download-The-Thing-About-Cowboys-Sexplorations-374579192

After Liberia massacre, a neglected mass

CARTER CAMP, Liberia (AP) Birds twittering in the trees are among the few signs of life in Carter Camp, an abandoned former workers' housing compound now overgrown with untamed grass and where hundreds of bodies are buried in an unmarked mass grave.

Twenty years ago this week, one of the worst atrocities in Liberia's war a conflict that was marked by its sheer brutality and high civilian casualties occurred in Carter Camp when some 600 people were slaughtered on the night of June 5-6, 1993.

The neglect shown the victims mirrors the lack of action in bringing the perpetrators to justice. A United Nations-commissioned inquiry found the army of the late president Samuel Doe responsible, but other accounts have since challenged the report. No one was ever put on trial even though Liberia's post-conflict truth commission recommended prosecution for perpetrators of crimes in the war generally.

Nyenati Allison, who was then a reporter for The Associated Press, visited the area soon after the carnage and described a horrible scene: "Strewn through the camp were babies with crushed skulls, mothers hacked by machetes, elderly people butchered like livestock."

The victims were hastily buried. A profusion of bushes now renders the mass grave, dug between two aging trees on the outskirts of the old camp, all but inaccessible.

"The government needs to build a memorial here so that at least generations unborn will know what happened here," said Yelesah Mark, a 48-year-old survivor of that hellish night as he struggled to control his emotions.

Carter Camp existed originally as home for low-income rubber tappers of the Firestone tire company, situated 48 kilometers (30 miles) southeast of Monrovia near the world's largest rubber plantation which began operations in 1926. When fighting between rival rebel forces and regional peacekeepers displaced locals, they sought refuge in Carter Camp, swelling its population to over 3,000. By the time of the massacre, those in the camp of mud huts were a combination of company employees and people displaced by fighting.

The camp was immediately abandoned after the massacre and visitors have to be told there once was a camp here. Grass has taken over everywhere. Apart from a Nigerian-originated church which operates here, the few visible living things are birds building nests in trees that once provided shades for camp residents.

Mark was among the displaced people who nearly lost their lives in the Carter Camp Massacre, one of the worst atrocities in Liberia's 14-year civil war that ended in 2003. When gunmen dressed in military uniform entered the sprawling camp, said Mark, "we saw two tactical jeeps in which they came taking positions at the two ends of the camp, but we did not know their intent at first."

The slaughter soon began, with the attackers using firearms and machetes. Over 200 of those who were butchered were children.

"My brother-in-law Bainda and my friend Sackie were among the batch of displaced people slaughtered behind a poultry house down there," he said. "The killings were all over the camp; as people cried for help, all you could hear were 'ba-ba-ba, ba-ba-ba'" Mark said, imitating the sound of automatic weapons fire.

"Whenever I ... tell the story to people, it brings back that sad memory; it looks like we are digging out old wounds," he said. "But again, the story has to be told."

Mark said those who drove into the camp and carried out the massacre were former soldiers belonging to the army loyal to Doe. The then president was killed in 1990, but the army he led continued to remain active, fighting other rival forces.

Flan J. Nowon was a relief worker supervising food distribution in Carter Camp 20 years ago. He and his team worked there hours before the massacre, handing out food to "desperate people." They decided to take a break and return to their homes outside the camp, planning to return and resume the food distribution the next morning.

"It was just about two hours later that we started hearing heavy gunfire in the camp," Nowon said, standing with AP reporters near the overgrown mass grave. "I believed for sure there was something terrible happening in the camp when I saw a woman who had been shot in the buttock coming out of the camp naked, bleeding and crying and carrying a child."

"I ran back inside and told my wife 'Carter Camp is on fire,'" Nowon recalled.

The lack of accountability for massacres such as this one has bred suspicion that persists two decades later that some of those who orchestrated the violence are in positions of power.

Former Liberian President Charles Taylor, who was a leader of a rebel group in 1993 and whose fighters many people like Nowon suspect had a hand in the attack, was found guilty in April 2012 in an international war crimes court in the Netherlands of 11 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity and received a 50-year prison sentence.

But that was for aiding and abetting rebels in neighboring Sierra Leone, not for atrocities in his own country.

"Liberia became a place where killing was a way of life," said Nowon. "And those who killed people deliberately in Liberia have been left to roam the streets."

http://faiguzep.livejournal.com/2913.html
http://viiqelig.jimdo.com/2013/05/25/download-50-designers-you-should-know-book/
http://geajaki.bravesites.com/entries/general/downloads-the-2010-2015-outlook-for-medical-specialty-bags-in-africa-europe-the-middle-east
http://theresafoc.blog.free.fr/index.php?post/2013/05/25/Bird-Food-Recipes%3A-Storey-Country-Wisdom-Bulletin-A-137-ebook-downloads
http://chelseauyaoery.inube.com/blog/3497410/key-for-completion-test-language-scales-e-book/
http://demarcusqpufr.inube.com/blog/3497411/saddest-girl-in-the-world-the-true-story-of-a-neglected-and-isolated-little-girl-who-just-wanted-to-be-loved-book-downloads/
http://dickcoozn.inube.com/blog/3497412/downloads-bound/
http://zosirave.deviantart.com/journal/A-lyric-of-the-fairy-land-and-other-poems-downl-373689074
http://ousyribsfo.blogdetik.com/the-frontier-scout-and-buffalo-hunters-sketchbook-ebook/
http://uyuoduck.blogdetik.com/the-2009-2014-world-outlook-for-unfinished-wet-blues-and-other-cattle-hide-and-kip-side-leathers-ebook/
http://quooscerc.altervista.org/download-dithiolene-chemistry-synthesis-properties-and-applications-e-book/
http://wilburimyaa.webs.com/apps/blog/show/26587124

Arizona Twins Suffer Strokes at 26, Only

Kathryn Tucker, a senior care coordinator for an Arizona insurance company, had just gone to bed when she felt a sharp pain the back of her head on the right side before her vision went out and she went numb.

Her brother was at her Chandler, Ariz., apartment and got her to the hospital where doctors at first dismissed her symptoms as a migraine with aura. But Tucker, only 26, was having a stroke.

"I was absolutely terrified," said Tucker, who was sent home from the emergency room that day in July 2012 without medical intervention.

"I slept for three days straight," she said. "Then, when I woke up, my vision was horrible. Everything was distorted and one-dimensional. I could barely get around."

Her health deteriorated so she ended up going to an urgent care facility. From there, she was referred to a neurologist who diagnosed a stroke.

Nine months later to the day, her twin sister, Kimberly Tucker, suffered a stroke in exactly the same way, except on the left side. Kimberly Tucker had left school in Tucson to take care of her sister after her stroke. Then in April, their roles reversed.

The Tucker girls are fraternal twins and do not share the same DNA. There is a family history of stroke, but doctors are unsure of a genetic link until further testing is done.

Both suffered a stroke on opposite sides of the occipital lobe, which sends visual input from the brain to the retinas.

"Honestly, it's rare for us to actually evaluate two sisters who've had strokes within months of each other," said Dr. Joni Clark, a vascular neurologist atin Phoenix. "If they had a family history, it would not be a surprise. It's quite uncommon."

Stroke is a leading cause of death in the United States, killing nearly 130,000 Americans each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which observes

About one-third of strokes are believed to occur in people younger than 65.

For those younger than 45, the stroke risk has jumped 14 to 20 percent, according to Clark.

"We see this mainly among young people who have risk factors that you should see in elderly patients.

"Here at Barrow, we see a huge population of stroke patients -- and, in my own experience, which is anecdotal, I see a fair number of young people with stroke," said Clark. "The majority are spontaneous."

Obesity, which leads to diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol, is a risk.

"You'd also be surprised how many young adults don't exercise," said Clark. "It's sad, because the rise is due to good, old stroke risk factors that shouldn't happen when they are young."

Doctors say that lifestyle habits are linked to an increase in the incidence of strokes among young people. Kathryn Tucker was a smoker and had stopped using birth control just weeks before her stroke. She also was a migraine sufferer.

It was discovered later that Kathryn Tucker had a PFO, or patent foramen ovale, a small hole in the heart that may have contributed to her stroke.

"There were several things that probably all together put Kathryn at risk," said Clark, who treated Kathryn Tucker, but not her sister.

Kathryn Tucker said her prognosis is "really good" now that she has stopped smoking and taking the pill.

The twins said they were also worried about their overuse of caffeinated energy drinks -- three to four a week, although there is no medical evidence linking those drinks to stroke.

"Don't think you are impervious to stroke," said Kimberly Tucker, who is still undergoing therapy. "We think we are invincible until we are not. This taught us a huge lesson that we are not guaranteed great health and we need to take care of our bodies."

Kimberly Tucker, unlike her sister, did not have a PFO and was an avid runner.

"On the day of my stroke I did a 5K run," she said. "I was feeling extra thirsty the whole time and went home to take a nap."

When she woke up, Kimberly Tucker felt a sharp pain on the left side of the back of her head.

"My vision closed in almost completely," she said. "I wasn't making a lot of sense and was not able to form complete thoughts. But I knew I was having a stroke."

Remembering what her twin sister had gone though, she immediately called 911, then her sister, who told her to take her blood thinners, a move that might have saved her life.

"I instantly knew I had a stroke because I was suffering from many of the same symptoms as my sister," says Kimberly Tucker. "The EMT's told me that the chance of both me and my sister having a stroke this young was that of being struck by lightning twice. They thought I was suffering from dehydration or heat stroke."

Later, doctors discovered Kimberly Tucker had , which may have been a contributing factor to her stroke.

Today, both girls are doing well after occupational and speech therapy, though they still have some visual deficits and are not allowed to drive.

"I still notice some weakness when I am tired," Kathryn Tucker said. "Otherwise, I am fine, physically back to normal."

"We are super close," said Kimberly Tucker of her twin. "I think we always have been close, but this definitely brought us closer. Honestly, she is the only person who understands because we are going through it together."

http://janetteaua.blog.free.fr/index.php?post/2013/05/21/Wall-Street%3A-120-Rock-Climbs-book-downloads
http://blogs.rediff.com/moonablc/2013/05/22/download-facilities-managers-2004-costbook-building-news-facilities-managers-costbook-jan-2004-book/
http://oumuobyca.metroblog.com/download_every_day_is_a_good_day_reflections_e_book
http://blogs.rediff.com/spenceryry/2013/05/22/clothes-day-to-day-board-books-read-online/
http://yoehahev.bravesites.com/entries/general/20-trucs-et-astuces-pour-os-x-lion-et-mac-os-x-mon-mac-moi-french-edition-book
http://en.netlog.com/tamkuhlman/blog/blogid=23832757
http://bbnodtar.metroblog.com/download_adventures_of_a_bed_salesman_ebook
http://qijinoah.deviantart.com/journal/Download-Fishes-of-the-tropical-eastern-Pacific-b-373027876
http://aftonuad.skyrock.com/3163448160-Instrumentation-Laboratory-Product-Pipeline-Analysis-download.html
http://kobnucya.blogdetik.com/the-new-illustrated-guide-to-fish-diseases-2nd-edition-2006/
https://groups.diigo.com/group/thresalybe/content/golf-rules-explained-effective-through-2015-downloads-9607261
