Given all the great reviews of this movie by the professional critics, some of my friends, and many of the User Critics, I guess I'm going to be a contrarian.

I did see The Irishman on Netflix last night but I was kind of disappointed after hearing all the high praise. The movie really needed some good editing as there were lots of unnecessary scenes and the film lacked a certain "tightness. Also, I know many people didn't mind it, but the "de-aging" of the actors didn't seem to work very well. We know what the actors actually looked like at the ages depicted in the movie and their "de-aged" personas didn't look close to reality. Plus, they walked around like old men. Instead of 'getting the band back together' so to speak, I think Scorsese would have been better off having a group of younger actors play the parts and then computer aging them. That seems to work better.

Overall I'd say it was "OK" but far from being one of Scorsese's best. Besides, if I'm going to spend 3 ½ hours watching a movie it better at least be the quality of Showgirls.

I'm not an experienced reviewer so I'd direct you to the review on this site, done by CarsonTrent, who was much more professional in his writing and whose thoughts I agree with totally.

Update : watched it 's still poopie. If you have attention deficit issues you'll love Abrams editing, and the pan zoom camera shots. Another annoyance is that I just realised palpatine now says the sith are akin to the 'highlanders' and there 'can be only one' lore. They should have developed snoke or brought him back as palpatine just seemed old, and kylo is as scary as a wet fish in a teddy bear outfit. Absolute nonsense of a film.

This film is what got into Harry Potter. After I had seen Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, I had read the original novel and the rest of the series. I know that is a bit unorthodox, but that's me.

As some of you know, Harry was an 11-year old, who had lived with his mean aunt and uncle and bratty cousin. He had no idea of what had happened to his parents. The Dursleys had always told him they had died in a car crash. Yes, it was a miserable life of Harry; until he had received a letter that will be attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He also found that he is wizard, and that his mom and dad were killed by Voldemort, an evil wizard so evil that every witch and wizard is afraid to speak his name. But Voldemort had failed to kill little Harry, so he had left a lightning-shaped scar on his forehand. Thus Harry became "The Boy Who Lived." So Harry is taken to Hogwarts, and there he meets the half-giant Rubeus Hagrid; fellow classmates Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger. I know I would say this, but that is all I will tell you about the film, folks, you will have to see the film for yourself how it ends. Before the movie was released on November 16th I had been a big Harry Potter fan and couldn't wait for the movie it come out. I watched in amazement as the wonderfully vivid writings of JK Rowling leapt of the paper and formed a delightfully magical motion picture.

The casting was perfectly selected. Maggie Smith (as always) was wonderful along with the other Professors; Zoe wannamaker, Warwick Davis. And I especially liked Ian Hart, Richard Harris and Alan Rickman.

The newcomers were brilliant along with the other children who had already acted before.

My only complaint on the casting is Fiona Shaw. Who toward the beginning was way-over-dramatic and a little over-expressive. However toward the Hut Scene she seems to have settled into her role quite nicely.

The visual effects were also well done by Nick Dudman etc. br>
Overall i would give this movie a 10 out of 10 and I can't wait until the sequel.

I have a nephew and two nieces so I am very familiar with Harry Potter. I've read three of the books so far and I was very impressed. So, I found myself in line at the theater on opening weekend which isn't something I normally do.

The movie was true to the book. The characters were very similar to what I imagined them to be. Oh my. Hogwarts was an amazing feat of cinematography. For anyone seeing it for the first time, I recommend paying special attention to the pictures in the background. I believe almost every one had little subplots of their own.

Congrats to everyone involved with this movie! I can tell that a lot of heart, soul, and amazing cgi went into its creation.
