Vardakis finally found Danville podiatrist Howar

Milt Vardakis, an avid sportsman from Danville, searched in desperation for a solution to the severe pain in his tendon, which began two years ago. It prevented him from the physical activities he loved playing basketball and tennis.

Vardakis finally found Danville podiatrist Howard Sokoloff, who used new technology to repair the damage in his broken Achilles tendon.

Howard M. Sokoloff, a podiatric physician and surgeon whose office is in San Ramon, has been using a new technique called Topaz Ablation developed by ArthroCare Corp. to heal Achilles tendons, plantar fasciitis and tendinopathies. The technology is a surgical procedure that increases blood supply and oxygen in the wounded area, allowing healing. It is less invasive than other techniques, which often involve sewing and suturing. Although, like all surgeries, there are risks of the ablation therapy causing an infection or not working, Sokoloff noted.

Nonetheless, he has seen positive results since he started using it last year. He said he has treated more than 30 cases of plantar fasciitis using ablation. It has been used in cardiology, urology and now orthopedic medicine.

"The results are so favorable that more surgeons are air jordan australia using it," Sokoloff said.

Common ailments Sokoloff has treated are hereditary deformations, foot and ankle injuries, often from sports injuries and fractures. He also said he sees many tendon problems. He said preparing and stretching physically are ways to prevent injuries. He noted that understanding the activity or sport one gets involved in helps, too.

Mustang soccer coach Dwight Maloney said he has his kids stretch and exercise before playing. But he hasn't seen many serious injuries other than minor scrapes.

Andy Lutz, San Ramon Valley High School varsity tennis coach, said he also requires his player to stretch and wear shoes that are specially made for the sport.

Whatever injury his patients are facing, Sokoloff said he treats their injuries with a conservative approach, such as physical therapy. If this fails, he then makes a recommendation.

Sokoloff grew up in Pennsylvania.

"I was always interested in small joint surgery," he said.

He studied at the Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine and received his degree. He moved to California in 1976 and studied podiatric surgery at the California College of Podiatric Medicine. He did surgical residency in Hayward.
Nike Air Jordan 3

"He has Nike Air Jordan 8 a sense of passion," said Vardakis.

When Vardakis was looking for a doctor to repair his ankle, he wanted the best. Through word of mouth, he found Sokoloff. At first, they approached Vardakis' healing conservatively, through physical therapy for three months. But that didn't work.

Then Sokoloff recommended ablating his wound. Vardakis listened to the doctor's advice. Although Sokoloff had said it would be two months before he would be fully healed to play sports, Vardakis was able to play basketball again after four weeks.

After making his limited return to practice

INDIANAPOLIS In football as in life, you first must walk before you can run. And the fact that Rob Gronkowski did so on Friday walking without his walking boot could indicate that he making strides toward being on the field for the Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI.

After making his limited return to practice a day earlier, New England AllPro tight end participated in the team walkthrough on Friday, more evidence that he could give it a go in Sunday title tilt despite a high ankle sprain that has him officially listed as on the team injury report.

see where he Nike Air Jordan 11 at on Sunday, but hopefully (he play) coach Bill Belichick said. saw no setbacks. He still making progress. to Alex Marvez, the pool reporter who watched practice, the Patriots never ran faster than a trot during a walkthrough session designed to give the players one more chance to go through the execution of each play. Therefore, Gronkowski didn take contact, didn run a route, didn plant and cut.

But he didn limp. And he also didn appear to be wearing any extra protection on his left ankle either, which is significant considering the practice was an hour long and Gronkowski was on his feet the whole time.

Much was made of the fact he didn wear a boot and claimed to not be wearing a compression wrap on Tuesday, when he sat at a podium for media day so, three days later, that the Patriots training staff signed off on him walking for that long without a brace later may say something about where he at.

It might also say something about his spirits that he chose to wear a Tshirt that read Soy Fiesta across his chest that being a muchmocked quote from an interview he recently gave ESPN Deportes.

think we ready to go, Belichick said. worked hard this week, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday in practice, and we had good practices back last week. We went through some mentalreview things out there (Friday). coach is so comfortable with his team preparation that they won practice today. have meetings and we do some reminders and things like that in our hotel, but we not going to actually practice, said Belichick, adding that he treated Friday more like a typical Saturday.

Ultimately all that matters is Sunday. And in walking, if not running Gronkowski might taken another small step toward being ready by then.

Gronkowski is one of 11 Patriots considered questionable for the contest, a list including as many as eight starters. Logan Mankins (knee), Patrick Chung (knee), Brandon Spikes (knee), Rob Ninkovich (hip), Wes Welker (knee), Sebastian Vollmer (illness, back, foot) and Kyle Love (ankle) join the tight end, as do Dane Fletcher (thumb), Marcus Cannon (ankle) and Tracy White (abdomen).

The Giants didn list anybody as questionable in the week final injury report, with leading rusher Ahmad Bradshaw listed as probable despite missing Friday practice. He battling a foot injury that kept him out of workouts until Wednesday, but he is expected to play.

Before he became the Giants offensive line coach in 2009, Jack Bicknell Jr. was an assistant at the University of New Hampshire from 198796, sharing a staff with current Wildcats coach Sean McDonnell and nowOregon coach Chip Kelly for parts of his 10 seasons.

so happy for him, McDonnell said this week. a lifetime coach. Family great. They good people. He a helluva coach. He got an opportunity to go back with Coughlin. He really good at what he does, coaching kids, making them play better. Men.

being an unbelievable guy, I got a lot of respect for him. He worked here with coach (Bill) Bowes and us and was the best. Me, Chip an him were on the offensive side of the ball, and Pete Carmichael Jr. He loved it. was the offensive coordinator, Bicknell the offensive line coach and Kelly the running backs coach in 1994, when UNH went 80 in the Yankee Conference and advanced to the playoffs. McDonnell and Bicknell still see each other every summer, getting together for golf and a visit at Lake Waukewan in Meredith.

The UNH coach also knows a thing or two Nike Air Jordan 4 about Victor Cruz, the Giants receiver who played for the University of Massachusetts and totaled 15 catches for 163 yards in his last two games against New Hampshire.

player, McDonnell said. strong kid Nike Air Jordan 1 in our league. A step ahead of everyone else. Just a real athlete, good in the open field and a tough kid, too. According to Marvez account, he lined up as a lineman on punts, trying to draw the coverage team offside, and he joined special teams coach Scott O along the defensive line while Stephen Gostkowski was practicing kicks.

In his annual news conference, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said Friday that every team will play a Thursday night game next season as NFL Network expands its coverage of those contests to run from Week 215. He also said that the league will only consider the 18game schedule he championed a year ago after it has a chance to study a cycle of data related to improvements in player safety.
LITCHFIELD Campbell of Litchfield consistently

LITCHFIELD Campbell of Litchfield consistently created scoring opportunities in an early season battle between two unbeaten Division III teams, but Somersworth's Rachel Hill required just a sliver of a chance to build a 32 comeback victory.

Though shadowed by several defenders whenever she touched the ball, Hill, a twotime New Hampshire Union Leader allstate selection, created tiny openings to tally two goals and an assist while stealing a hometurf win away from Campbell (31).

The senior, one of the most exciting and prolific scorers in the state, struck the game winner in the 76th minute. Hill collected a throughpass from classmate Emily Francoeur without breaking stride. She raced 35 yards on three touches, momentarily creating space between three defenders to boot a 15yard crossing shot just inside the far post.

possessed the ball for 85 percent of the game but couldn't produce enough scores. We didn't finish enough chances, said Campbell coach Bob Gannon after the thrilling game. Every goal tied the game or changed the lead.

With Savannah Cavanaugh exclusively marking Hill across the entire pitch, the Cougars took turns creating chances, clanking a couple against posts, sailing a few wide and watching Hilltoppers keeper Katie Bussiere tip two chances over the bar before Casey Mellen drilled a goal just inside the far post in the 45th minute. Campbell led 10.

Hill tied the score at 61:10, bulleting a strike from 30 yards out while surrounded by four Cougars. Somersworth (30) went ahead on a free kick play when Hill leaped at the far post to flick a serve across the goal face that Francoeur directed home.

Campbell reclaimed the lead in the 75th minute when freshman Olivia Crema settled a free ball to leftfoot a goal from 15 yards out.

A minute later, Hill struck the game winner. It was her eighth of the season and 129th of her career.

escaped out of (Litchfield) with this win on some resilient effort, said Somersworth coach Nick O'Brien. as tough as they come and wants to win in a big, big way. dominated the first half with giveandgo or crossing passes from Nike Air Jordan 6 Sydney Crema, Nicole Goldman, Anglea Valenti and Molly Lesperance serving up opportunity.

Hill and fellow senior Erika Ducharme, a defender, provided a spirited motivational effort at intermission.

showed some force in the second half, said O'Brien. Alyssa Dalesio, Nicole Hinchey and Francoeur kept sending Hill on goal with through passes. With Cavanaugh shadowing her, Hill couldn't generate good shot angles. She persisted, eventually finding a way to finish the game.

can't give up.
The day I noticed Omar Sharif in Paris' de Gaull

There have been moments in life when I knew I was exactly where I should have been.

The day I noticed Omar Sharif in Paris' de Gaulle Airport. The evening I first spotted my husband across the room at the Officers' Club in Geilenkirchen, Germany. The mornings of my daughters' births. The afternoon last month I spent at the Portsmouth Public Library's fourth annual Women's Clothing Swap.

Some moments, of course, need no explanation. OK, so Omar had aged quite a bit since his "Dr. Zhivago" days, but it was still a thrill to see him. My husband and daughters? There really is nothing so wonderful as love at first sight.

But, hold on. Perhaps there is Nike Air Jordan 5 something as wonderful as love at first sight. "Wonderful" only begins to describe the clothing swap the Portsmouth Public Library hosts each year.

So, what exactly is this clothing swap? Well, on Saturday, May 18, the swap was open to anyone. The idea was to "bring a bag of gently used, clean women's clothing and accessories and leave with a bag of newtoyou items." Why? "To clean out closets of things we don't need or want anymore. To maybe find a new, wellloved item for our wardrobe and to donate to a good cause Goodwill."

This year's event was wonderfully superb, fabulously superb up there with Durham's 700 Family Yard Sale as one of the reasons I am delighted with my geographic locale. And my favorite parts were not necessarily acquiring more couture, but rather seeing my necklace freshly adorning an old woman's neck and watching my friend Sandy's sparkle dress being tried on at least 12 times. This was the same dress Sandy's soontobe exhusband had given her the one she wanted to mail him with a note reading, "Maybe your new girlfriend can wear this!" We ultimately decided the karma was much better at the swap.

But, then again, everything was better at the swap the laughter, the camaraderie. One of the marvelous workers brought in a cake for a colleague, and all "swappers" stopped to sing "Happy Birthday." I thought, "Now THIS would be the BEST birthday party EVER" and promised myself I'd host my next celebration at the swap. You're all invited; just bring a bag of clothes.

But why wait until May of 2014? I plan on orchestrating one of these swaps at my own place of work next fall. Why? Let's face it: Do we not all have too much in our closets? And while I do love to gather goods and bring them to my favorite venues of thrift, this exchange is more about providing another way to downsize and supporting locales I greatly appreciate.

My place of work happens to be Dover's Saint Mary Academy, a most wonderful Catholic school where our uniform exchange has been in place for years. Need a new uniform? Take one. Outgrew yours? Leave it in the bin for someone else. We've been green since before it was fashionable.

My vision is to open this up, a la the Portsmouth event, to include items beyond clothes, particularly items children do not necessarily need new: lunch boxes, unused notebooks, outgrown soccer cleats, mittens.

The Portsmouth swap had piles of clothes labeled by color and was magnificently organized chaos. Rifling through piles of blouses and gowns and pants that afternoon was delightful well worth the hunt for the Lilly Pulitzer dress I'll be sporting this summer. Thanks to whomever set this lovely piece free from her closet!

I envision much the same for the Saint Mary event but with the opportunity to Nike Air Jordan 13 save some money (how great is it to shop without a wallet?) and see what is left over to donate to area thrift shops.

And, dear readers, OF COURSE there will be a table reserved solely Nike Air Mags for women's clothes.

In the meantime, enjoy your digging, your special moments, and start putting aside those items yearning for another's love.

And the physical sensation was painfully

They stretched me out, with a convenient exposure of my side, and, almost before I realised what was happening, the chloroform was being administered. It stings the nostrils, and there is a suffocating sensation at first. I knew I should die — that this was the end of consciousness for me. And suddenly I felt that I was not prepared for death: I had a vague sense of a duty overlooked — I knew not what. What was it I had not done? I could think of nothing more to do, nothing desirable left in life; and yet I had the strangest disinclination to death. And the physical sensation was painfully oppressive. Of course the doctors did not know they were going to kill me. Possibly I struggled. Then I fell motionless, and a great silence, a monstrous silence, and an impenetrable blackness came upon me.

There must have been an interval of absolute unconsciousness, seconds or minutes. Then with a chilly, unemotional clearness, I perceived that I was not yet dead. I was still in my body; but all the multitudinous sensations that come sweeping from it to make up the background of consciousness had gone, leaving me free of it all. No, not free of it all; for as yet something still held me to the poor stark flesh upon the bed — held me, yet not so closely that I did not feel myself external to it, independent of it, straining away from it. I do not think I saw, I do not think I heard; but I perceived all that was going on, and it was as if I both heard and saw. Haddon was bending over me, Mowbray behind me; the scalpel — it was a large scalpel — was cutting my flesh at the side under the flying ribs. It was interesting to see myself cut like cheese, without a pang, without even a qualm. The interest was much of a quality with that one might feel in a game of chess between strangers. Haddon’s face was firm and his hand steady; but I was surprised to perceive (how I know not) that he was feeling the gravest doubt as to his own wisdom in the conduct of the operation.

A celebrated physician has just come from

The young man followed the old beggar-woman’s directions. On going out of the town he found the white, red, and black dogs, and killed and burnt them, gathering the ashes in three bags. Then he ran to the palace and cried:

“A celebrated physician has just come from Janina in Albania. He alone can cure the King and give him back the strength of his youth.”

The King’s physicians at first laughed at the unknown wayfarer, but the Sultan ordered that the stranger should be admitted. They brought the cauldron and the loads of wood, and very soon the King was boiling away. Toward mid-day the gardener’s son arranged the bones in their places, and he had hardly scattered the ashes over them before the old King revived, to find himself once more young and hearty.

“How can I reward you, my benefactor?” he cried. “Will you take half my treasures?”

“No,” said the gardener’s son.

“My daughter’s hand?”

“NO.”

“Take half my kingdom.”

“No. Give me only the bronze ring which can instantly grant me anything I wish for.”

“Alas!” said the King, “I set great store by that marvelous ring; nevertheless, you shall have it.” And he gave it to him.

The gardener’s son went back to say good-by to the old beggar-woman; then he said to the bronze ring:

“Prepare a splendid ship in which I may continue my journey. Let the hull be of fine gold, the masts of silver, the sails of brocade; let the crew consist of twelve young men of noble appearance, dressed like kings. St. Nicholas will be at the helm. As to the cargo, let it be diamonds, rubies, emeralds, and carbuncles.”

I might have mentioned before

After peeping out again, Jarber came back to his chair with a tender air, and asked: “How does it worry you, S-arah?”

“It is a mystery to me,” said I. “Of course every house IS a mystery, more or less; but, something that I don’t care to mention” (for truly the Eye was so slight a thing to mention that I was more than half ashamed of it), “has made that House so mysterious to me, and has so fixed it in my mind, that I have had no peace for a month. I foresee that I shall have no peace, either, until Trottle comes to me, next Monday.”

I might have mentioned before, that there is a lone-standing jealousy between Trottle and Jarber; and that there is never any love lost between those two.

“TROTTLE,” petulantly repeated Jarber, with a little flourish of his cane; “how is TROTTLE to restore the lost peace of Sarah?”

“He will exert himself to find out something about the House. I have fallen into that state about it, that I really must discover by some means or other, good or bad, fair or foul, how and why it is that that House remains To Let.”

“And why Trottle? Why not,” putting his little hat to his heart; “why not, Jarber?

“To tell you the truth, I have never thought of Jarber in the matter. And now I do think of Jarber, through your having the kindness to suggest him — for which I am really and truly obliged to you — I don’t think he could do it.”

“Sarah!”

“I think it would be too much for you, Jarber.”

“Sarah!”

“There would be coming and going, and fetching and carrying, Jarber, and you might catch cold.”

“Sarah! What can be done by Trottle, can be done by me. I am on terms of acquaintance with every person of responsibility in this parish. I am intimate at the Circulating Library. I converse daily with the Assessed Taxes. I lodge with the Water Rate. I know the Medical Man. I lounge habitually at the House Agent’s. I dine with the Churchwardens. I move to the Guardians. Trottle! A person in the sphere of a domestic, and totally unknown to society!”
