インド初の電動自転車が独創的すぎてヤバイ

電動アシスト自転車は最高だ。一度乗ったら、もう「電動なし」には戻れなくなってしまうほどの楽チンさ。電池の許す限りは、どんな長距離だって、どんな急な坂道だって、電動アシスト自転車ならばへっちゃらだ！

ちなみに電動アシスト自転車の需要が特にある国は、日本、ドイツ、オランダであるらしい。中国の場合は、「電動アシスト」ではなく、モロに「電動自転車」だ。そんななか、インド初の電動自転車がいろいろな意味で独創的すぎてヤバイと静かな話題になっている。

自転車の名前は「ニスタルキヤ（Nisttarkya）」。モーターのパワーは350ワット。36ボルトのバッテリーで動作するという。オレンジ色のフレームと、極太タイヤがカッコイイ……のだが、衝撃的なのは乗車姿勢だ。

なんというか、車体に覆いかぶさるように運転するのである。かなり “本気” のライディングポジションだ。表情も本気（マジ）だ！　ハンドルは前タイヤの両脇についており、ヘッドライトは「頭に巻きつけるタイプ」を使用するらしい。

なお、こちらのニスタルキヤは、まだコンセプトモデルの段階だ。インド初の電動自転車として製品化されることを期待したい。でも、インドのデコボコ道をこれで走ったら……アゴのあたりは大丈夫だろうか。いろいろ心配である。

日本エイサーは、ノートパソコンの2011年秋冬モデルとして、17.3型モデル「Aspire AS7750」、15.6型モデル「Aspire AS5750」、13.3型モデル「Aspire Timeline X AS3830T」Acer Aspire 5310 akku を発表。10月下旬以降より発売する。

17.3型モデル「Aspire AS7750」Acer Aspire 5570z akkuは、「Core i7 2670QM」や8GBメモリー、500GB HDD×2、ブルーレイドライブなど搭載し、デスクトップ並みの性能を実現。また、「ドルビーアドバンストオーディオv2」を採用することで、サラウンドサウンドも実現している。市場想定価格は110,000円前後。

15.6型モデル「Aspire AS5750」Acer Aspire 5600 akkuは、最新CPUの「Core i7 2670QM」もしくは「Core i5 2430M」を塔載。USB 3.0やHDMI出力を備える。ボディカラーとして、ブラック、レッド、ブルーの3色を用意。市場想定価格は60,000円～90,000円前後。

13.3型モデル「Aspire Timeline X AS3830T」Acer Aspire 5670 akkuは、「Core i5 2430M」、4GBメモリー、大容量HDDを搭載。約9時間の長時間バッテリー駆動を実現したほか、新開発の「Acer PowerSmart long-life battery」を採用し、従来のバッテリーよりも約3.3倍の耐久性を備える。また、電源オフの状態でUSB機器を充電することも可能。市場想定価格は80,000円～100,000円前後。

このほか、デュアルコアCPUを搭載したエントリーの15.6型モデル「Aspire AS5733」Acer Aspire 5739 akkuや、10.1型NetBook「Aspire one AOD257」をラインアップ。市場想定価格は、15.6型モデル「Aspire AS5733」が50,000円～60,000円前後、10.1型NetBook「Aspire one AOD257」が40,000円前後。

Acer から29型ウルトラワイド液晶モニタB296CL

27インチで10点マルチタッチの液晶モニタ T272HUL に加えて、Acer Acer Aspire 3610 akku は 29インチ21:9ウルトラワイドの B296CL、27インチ2560 x 1440のB276HUL も同時に発表しています。

写真の B296CL は、2560 x 1080 のやたらとワイドな画面を採用したモデル Acer Aspire 4315 akku。LG やデルが販売中のウルトラワイドモニタと同じ画面サイズ、同じアスペクト比と解像度の製品です。

2モデル共通の特徴は、自由度の高い ErgoStand を備えること。29インチのウルトラワイドでもピボットして縦画面でも使うことができ、範囲の広い高さ調節や前後のチルト、スタンドを動かさずに左右60度(水平120度)のスウィベルにも対応します。

大型のモニタを支えるためスタンドの足部分はさすがに広いものの、「オフィスアイテムを置く場所に使えるクレバーなデザイン」と前向きな発想です。

そのほか主な仕様は、1600万色表示、応答速度 8ms、視野角178度のIPSパネル、動的コントラスト比はもはやあまり桁に意味がない 1億：1。入力はデュアルリンク DVI-D、HDMI x2、DisplayPort Acer Aspire 4530 akku。

また 4ポートのUSB 3.0ハブ (上流1ポート、電源オフ時給電対応) や、スピーカーも内蔵します。

同じスタンドを採用したB276HUL Acer Aspire 5000 akkuは、27インチで2560 x 1440 ピクセルのモデル。縦横比は16:9なので、細長い29インチ21:9より縦は広くなっています。サイズと解像度以外の仕様はB296CLとほぼ共通。こちらの応答速度は微妙に速い6msです。

B296CL / B276HUL とも、米国ではすでに販売中。店頭想定価格はどちらも 599ドル。PCモニタにも4K高精細のモデルを聞くようになりましたが、数十万円スタートの30型4Kモニタよりはずいぶんお手軽です。

夏のお疲れ解消ボディケア

夏お疲れ肌　「乾燥肌」解消法

エアコンが効いた室内と、うだるような暑さの屋外との温度差が原因で、肌の水分量が奪われ、乾燥しやすくなる傾向にあります。また、紫外線の刺激も乾燥肌を引き起こす恐れが！

紫外線を浴びると細胞の増殖スピードが速くなり、細胞が不完全なまま作られてしまいます。結果、水分保持力の弱い状態になってしまうと同時に、肌の弾力や張りを保つコラーゲン繊維やエラスチンも破壊されることに。

解消法としては、とにかく保湿重視のケアを行いましょう。まだ暑さも残るこの時季ですが、さっぱりタイプのボディクリームより潤い効果の高いものを選ぶ方がオススメです。

その他、以下の点にも注意して乾燥からボディを守りましょう。

・入浴時にはナイロンタオルで洗い過ぎない

東京サマーランド「アドベンチャーラグーン」（東京都あきる野市）

“遊べるプール”ナンバーワンは文句なしにココ。通年営業の屋内プールに加えて、7～9月の3ヵ月間がサマーランド本番の季節です。屋外プール「アドベンチャーラグーン」一番のウリは、日本最大級の流れるプール「グレートジャーニー」。1周約650ｍの途中には、霧が立ち込める「ミスティバレイ」や、滝が流れる「ワイルドキャニオン」といったアトラクションも。浮き輪に乗って“水の旅”を楽しみましょう。

スライダーは「タワーズロック」と「dobon」に注目。「タワーズロック」は、後ろ向きに滑走する「バックドロッパー」と、渦巻きの中に落ちてゆく「コブラツイスター」。どちらも気分爽快です。そして2012年に登場した「dobon」は、滑るというよりは“落ちる”感覚を楽しめるニュータイプのスライダーです。ほかに、全長約120ｍのクネクネコースを滑る「スネイクライド」などのスライダーもあります。

さらに、樽から水が落ちてくる「アクアファン」や「バッシャハウス」「スーパーモンキーフロート」といった遊べるアトラクションがいっぱい。あれで遊んだり、これで遊んだり、決して飽きることなく、まる1日遊べるプールなのです。2013年8月1日（木）～31日（土）の毎日と、9月1日（日）～16日（月祝）の土・日・祝は21時までのナイター営業（プール利用は20時まで）。ライトアップされた夜のプールは、昼の賑やかさとは一転、ロマンチックムードです。

Picture this scenario: You're napping on a breezy Sunday afternoon in the hammock of your backyard, enjoying the peace and quiet of your suburban utopia. Slowly, your left hand eases up, wraps around your neck and you awake to find your own hand locked in a kung-fu grip on your throat. You pry it loose with your other hand, finger by finger, until it relents and you're left there staring at a hand that suddenly doesn't feel like your own. While it sounds like something from a B-grade horror movie, it's actually a very odd and very real medical condition known as "alien hand syndrome" (AHS).

In this article, we'll explain exactly what alien hand syndrome is, check out the brain function behind it and examine how pop culture seems to be hooked on this unusual condition.
Exactly what is Alien Hand Syndrome?

Alien hand syndrome is a rare neurological disorder in which one hand functions involuntarily, with the victim completely unaware of its action. While the example above may be extreme, people who suffer from AHS have exhibited similar symptoms in certain cases. Less horrifying symptoms include involuntary reaching and grasping, touching the face or tearing at clothing. More extreme cases have involved involuntarily stuffing food in the mouth, preventing the normal hand from completing simple tasks and self inflicted punching or choking. While it's viewed as more of a nuisance than a medical threat, its sufferers often experience psychological problems and embarrassment and are occasionally put in harm's way as result of the renegade limb's actions .

AHS differs from other conditions of involuntary limb movement in that the actions of the affected limb have purpose and are goal-oriented. The affected hand will pick up an object and attempt to use it, or will perform a simple task, such as buttoning and unbuttoning a shirt. Patients retain all sense of feeling in the alien hand, but they often describe feelings of disassociation. Patients may also exhibit strange behaviors, such as speaking to the hand, claiming demonic possession or referring to it in the third person .

Also known as anarchic hand, AHS was first identified in 1909 and there have only been 40 to 50 recorded cases since. It's believed that other instances may have been misdiagnosed as part of an existing mental health disorder. The rarity and non-threatening nature of AHS has led to infrequent research and a lack of hard data, resulting in a condition that's largely mysterious. Very recently, however, new clues have been uncovered that help pinpoint the part of the brain that is active during AHS episodes

日本エイサーは、8月2日に予定していた10.1型Androidタブレット端末「ICONIA TAB A500」Acer Aspire 5810 akku のAndroid 3.1へのアップデートを、ソフトウェア関連の不具合が発見されたため、延期すると発表した。

「ICONIA TAB A500」Acer Aspire 8930g akku は、タブレット向けに設計・最適化されたGoogleのモバイル向けOS「Android 3.0」（開発コードネーム名:Honeycomb）や、1GHzのデュアルCPUコアを内蔵するNVIDIAのSoC（System-on-a- chip）「Tegra 2」などを搭載したタブレット端末。ネットワークはIEEE802.11b/g/n対応無線LANのみで、3Gには対応しない。ディスプレイは、 1280×800ドット表示対応の10.1型ワイドサイズ。静電容量方式のタッチパネルを搭載しており、10点までのマルチタッチに対応している。

基本仕様は 10.1インチ 1280 x 800 ディスプレイ (静電容量式 10点マルチタッチ)Acer Aspire 1640 akku 、Tegra 250 (1GHz デュアルCPUコア)、1GB RAM、16GB内蔵フラッシュストレージ (32GBモデルもあとから追加予定)。無線は802.11a/b/g/n WiFiとBluetooth。I / O やポート類は microSDスロット、USB 2.0、HDMI出力、背面5Mピクセル・前面2MPピクセルカメラ。そのほかGPS やジャイロ・加速度センサなど。アルミボディは初代 iPad クラスの約13mm厚、重量は8～10時間駆動のバッテリー込みで約766g。

ソフトウェアは Android 3.0 Honeycomb Acer Aspire 3810 akku 。DLNA対応でAcer のパーソナルクラウドサービス Clear.fi に接続できたり、ゲームソフト Need for Speed : Shift および Let's Golf のフルバージョンがプリインストールされるといった要素もあります。米国では Best Buy 限定で予約受付中。出荷は4月24日。10インチHoneycombタブレットは一番乗りのモトローラ Xoom WiFi版の約600ドルが相場のようなものでしたが、スペック的にはほとんどおなじ Iconia Tab A500 は大手家電量販店価格とはいえいきなり150ドルほど落としてきました。

Scientists and researchers are always busy at work, hoping to create the next greatest consumer product, or identify a new species of mammal, or create a cure for cancer. Similarly, archeologists are constantly digging around to unlock secrets from the past. More often than you'd think, all of this hard work results in some pretty bizarre discoveries.
These discoveries don't come just at the hand of scientists, of course. Plenty of regular citizens have stumbled upon the craziest things. So what's been discovered in 2012? Lots of oddities, just like any other year. Here are 10 of them.

How cool would it be if you could pee through your mouth? Actually, it doesn't sound appealing at all. But scientists have discovered a Chinese soft-shelled turtle that can do just that. Its name is Pelodiscus sinensis, and it comes equipped with unusual gill-like projections on its mouth .
The turtles typically live in salty swamps and marshes. Strangely, when they're on dry land, they often stick their heads in puddles. In fact, researchers discovered these turtles can submerge their heads underwater for as long as 100 minutes. They also found the turtles can pee about 50 times more urea through their mouths than from their rears .
So why are they doing this? Like humans, turtles need to wash out the urea their bodies create. Urea is a result of proteins that decompose in our bodies. Humans create the urine to do this by drinking fresh water. But the soft-shelled turtles can't simply drink some water, because they live in a salty environment, and saltwater's not good to drink. Scientists speculate that to solve this problem, the turtles get rid of their urea by sticking their heads in fresh water, like that found in puddles, and simply rinse the urea out through their mouths .

The goopy puddles known as slime molds are part of a group of microbes called protists. These single-celled organisms don't have brains, yet researchers discovered they have memories.
Slime molds secrete a thick, translucent slime as they move. Then, they use the slime trail they've laid down to record where they've been -- which, in turn, helps them go around obstacles and find things. In studies, researchers hid a sugary meal behind a U-shaped barrier, and the slime mold found it by using its trail to figure out where it had already been, and thus where to look next .
Such a memory isn't the same as a human memory, of course. Slime molds can't store memories, for example. Still, the findings help us understand how early organisms figured out problems and puzzles. And the discovery marks the first demonstration of a spatial memory system in a brainless organism .
