'American Sniper' killer guilty

'American Sniper' killer guilty

Marine, was found guilty of fatally shooting Kyle and Kyle's friend, Chad Littlefield, multiple times at a gun range about 70 miles (110 km) southwest of Fort Worth in February 2013. Prosecutors said he ambushed the two from the rear, waiting for Kyle to completely unload his weapon at the range before he attacked with a barrage of gunshots. military sniper, has been lionized in his home state of Texas. popular culture in large part due to his best selling book and the Academy Award nominated movie directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Bradley Cooper. cheap nfl jerseys

After leaving military service, Kyle, who battled his own mental demons, helped counsel troubled veterans with trips for shooting and talks. He had driven Routh to the range with Kyle's neighbor, Littlefield. Cheap Jerseys

"You took the lives of two heroes, men that tried to be a friend to you. You became an American disgrace," Littlefield's brother in law, Jerry Richardson, said of Routh at a county court in the rural Texas city of Stephenville after the sentence was handed down.

The jury deliberated for a little more than two hours before reaching a verdict. Prosecutors chose not to go for the death penalty and had been seeking a life sentence without parole.

Defense lawyers argued that Routh was a paranoid schizophrenic and should be declared innocent by reason of insanity.

Even though Kyle's autobiography has been criticized for language seen as demeaning Iraqis and has been on the losing end of a defamation suit brought by former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura, Kyle is revered in Stephenville, near where he grew up and went to college.

At the Texas State Cemetery in Austin, where Kyle is buried along with other major figures in the state's history, his grave has been the most visited after his body was brought to the site in a flag waving procession that spanned about 200 miles of Texas highway in 2013.

In closing arguments, prosecutor Jane Starnes said Routh acted coldly and deliberately when he gunned down the two and then plotted his escape.

"That is not insanity. That is just cold, calculated capital murder," Starnes said. vibram five fingers sale

'NEVER SAW IT COMING'

Defense lawyers told the jury that Routh had been to hospitals four times because of his mental illness and was diagnosed as psychotic. They said he was suffering a paranoid episode when he went to the range and met the state's legal definition of insanity.

"He killed those men because he had a delusion. He believed in his mind that they were going to kill him." Warren St. John said in closing arguments.

Widow Taya Kyle walked out of court as the defense was making its final arguments, slamming a door behind her.

The judge told jurors they could find a person innocent by reason of insanity if the defendant did not know the conduct was wrong due to a severe mental defect or illness.

A forensics expert called by prosecutors said Kyle and Littlefield were shot in the back at close range. They had no time to remove loaded guns that they had holstered.

"He (Kyle) absolutely never saw this coming," said crime scene analyst Howard Ryan.

Prosecutors said the two were shot by 12 or 13 bullets and that Routh put on an act to get out of trouble.

"He is capable of dreaming up excuses to get his hide out of trouble at convenient times depending on who he is talking to," prosecutor Alan Nash said.

Jurors saw police videos in which Routh confessed to the killings in a rambling speech and heard audio tape of a prison phone call to a reporter where he talked about shooting Littlefield first, saying he was angry that he came to the range.

Alleged mobster charged in 1978

Alleged mobster charged in 1978 Lufthansa heist

NEW YORK More than 30 years after hooded gunmen pulled a $6 million airport heist dramatized in the hit Martin Scorsese movie Goodfellas, an elderly reputed mobster was arrested at his New York City home on Thursday and charged in the robbery and a 1969 murder.

Vincent Asaro, 78, was named along with his son, Jerome, and three other defendants in a wide ranging indictment alleging murder, robbery, extortion, arson and other crimes from the late 1960s through last year. The Asaros, both identified as captains in the Bonanno organized crime family, pleaded not guilty through their attorneys and were ordered held without bail at a brief appearance in federal court in Brooklyn.

The elder Asaro's attorney, Gerald McMahon, told reporters outside court his client was framed by shady turncoat gangsters, including former Bonanno boss Joseph Massino the highest ranking member of the city's five organized crime families to break the mob's vow of silence.

Massino "is one of the worst witnesses I've ever seen," McMahon said. He added Asaro had given him "marching orders" that "there will be no plea and he will walk out the door a free man."

A lawyer for Jerome Asaro declined comment.

The indictment accused Asaro of helping direct the Dec. 11, 1978, Lufthansa Airlines heist at Kennedy airport one of the largest cash thefts in American history. currency that was being returned to the United States from Germany, along with about $1 million in jewelry. The cash was never found.

According to court papers, an unidentified mob associate who pleaded guilty and became a co operating witness told investigators he participated in the robbery at the direction of Asaro. The theft was hatched by James "Jimmy the Gent" Burke, a late Lucchese crime family associate who was close to Asaro, who told the bandits he had a "score" that would make them rich, the papers say.

Each robber was supposed to be paid $750,000, but the co operating witness said "most did not receive their share, either because they were killed first or it was never given to them," the court papers state. china wholesale mlb jerseys

The papers say the co operator wore a wire and recorded a conversation he had with Asaro in 2011 in which the pair discussed being slighted.

"We never got our right money, what we were supposed to get," Asaro said, the papers state. "Jimmy Burke kept everything."

In addition to the heist, the elder Asaro was charged in the 1969 murder of Paul Katz, whose remains were found last year during an FBI dig at a house once occupied by Burke. The co operating witness said Asaro and Burke were business partners in Robert's Lounge, the papers state. The saloon was described by a fellow Lucchese associate of Burke, the late Henry Hill, as Burke's private cemetery.

"Jimmy buried over a dozen bodies. under the bocce courts," Hill wrote in his book, A Goodfella's Guide to New York.

Katz once owned a warehouse where mobsters stored stolen goods, the court papers state. After a raid at the warehouse, Asaro and Burke began to suspect Katz was a law enforcement informant. china cheap mlb jerseys

Asaro told the co operator Burke "had killed Katz with a dog chain because they believed he was a 'rat,' " the papers say. In the 1980s, Burke ordered the co operator to dig up the remains and move them to another location. mlb jerseys china

The co operator told investigators Asaro and Burke brought Katz's body to a vacant home in Queens, where it was concealed beneath a cement floor. wholesale mlb jerseys

Burke inspired Robert De Niro's character in Goodfellas, which was based on Nicholas Pileggi's book Wiseguy and told the story of Hill's time in the mob and subsequent co operation with law enforcement.

Massino was convicted in 2004 on charges he had a hand in multiple gangland murders, including the execution of a mobster who vouched for FBI undercover agent Donnie Brasco a story that was also turned into a movie.

MOST VISION P1055 INCLUDING EYEMED S OPIUM HEALTH OUTSIDE PRESCRIPTIONS FREE GLASSESD nhl jerseys china

D LOWEST PRICE china cheap nhl jerseys

D

THOROUGH EYETook my teenager in for an eye exam for new glasses. While there he decided he wanted to try contacts. They charged us for two exams. One for the glasses and one for the contact lenses. They never did give us a copy of either prescription, by the way. They decided he needed the expensive lenses for astigmatism. I asked if this was necessary or if he could try lenses without the astigmatism correction first. They insisted his astigmatism he needed these more expensive lenses. Of course the contacts were not in stock so we had to come back later for a trial pair. They did not communicate that my son had to be there to pick up the contact lenses so I wasted a trip to attempt to pick them up. After he tried them they said they would order the lenses he needed. I asked if I could have the prescription and order it myself. They said no they could not release that information. I ordered a box of each, paid in advance and then waited a couple more weeks for the order to come in. Once I had the boxes, I shopped online and found significant savings so I ordered the next set online right away so he would have more. The online place needed to confirm the prescription with All About Eyes. They refused and said we had to order them there. The online place agreed to fill the prescription with the copies of the box lids (that had the brand prescription) and a copy of the eye exam receipt. The lenses we received were identical to those from All About Eyes. One of the lenses was a problem from the beginning. I called about it. The answer was we would have to pay for a new exam! At this point I had enough and contacted an ophthalmologist. Completely different experience. He said my son's contact lenses were not the correct prescription and his astigmatism was so minor he should try regular contacts which he also pointed out were much cheaper. The office provided us with his prescription right there and had no problem with us ordering our own. In fact they verified with the online firm the same day our order was placed and the contacts arrived without delay. The new lenses have been terrific. If you value your eyes and your wallet do NOT go to All About Eyes in Moline. cheap nhl jerseys

and is it actually

and is it actually a word or is it just slang

"It's the hottest trend in New York, China, Indonesia and New Zealand," said the e mail that came to me from shocked animal rights activists. wholesale nfl jerseys china

A quick check at the site bursts the urban legend and shows that this is just another not particularly funny joke by computer punks. It turns out that the hottest trend is actually fictive but the proliferation of such trends is itself a trend. What is this world coming to? Inventing trends is trendy, warning against them in the framework of trendy organizations that support trendy causes and send e mails to trendy g mail addresses is trendy, refuting them at trendy Internet sites is trendy. What isn't trendy?

I look around me and hope to discover that I am an individual, who unlike everything around me, is not the fruit of some evanescent social wave. I failed. Everything in the room the laptop, the flip flops on my feet, the Art Deco poster on my wall, the word "click" that I have just typed all are the products of a current trend. It turns out that I'm a pretty cheap jerseys china

up to date person and there are only two things that I lack: a bonsai kitten and the foggiest idea of what a trend is. The moment I leave my building, the question gets complicated. On the sidewalk in front of me a skinny young fellow passes by wearing an orange skullcap. Is wearing a skullcap a trend in its own right? Is wearing an orange skullcap glorying in a double trend?

Wearing a skullcap apparently started with a not entirely rational act by a single individual. The Talmud tells of the Amora Rabbi Nachman, about whom soothsayers had predicted to his mother that he would be a thief. They suggested to her that she cover his head as a sign of fear of heaven. Gradually the head covering caught on among the general public as right and proper. It enabled those who wore it to differentiate themselves from the gentiles and to express their Jewishness to their fellows, and this is exactly what trends do: They define one social group and at the same time differentiate it from others.

It is hard to find a dictionary definition for the Hebrew word "trend," which sounds exactly like the English version. In English it means "tendency" that is, any direct pattern of development, as in the capital market or in mathematics. As a Hebrew slang word, trend is used mainly in the context of a fashion related tendency. The closest concept with an entry of its own in The Encyclopedia Britannica's dictionary is "fad." What is a fad? "A practice or interest followed for a time with exaggerated zeal."

And what is a fashion? Fashions, explains the Wikipedia information site, "are social psychology phenomena common to many fields of human activity and thinking. Although that concept frequently applies to clothes and other aspects of appearance, it can apply also to music, art, politics, philosophy ." The site adds that fashion, by definition, changes constantly and usually stems from considerations that are not rational. These two definitions, with their description of fashion as being ephemeral and changing, save the skullcap from being considered a trend after all, something that occurs during 1,700 years is not Cheap NFL Jerseys

happening only "for a time"; indeed, during the course of them the skullcap became a symbol of a nation and a tradition.

And what about the color orange? Trend or not? Orange expresses clear political desires and its display is tantamount to the demonstration of a conscious, intentional symbol that is fraught with meaning these days. There is no doubt that the use of orange as a color of protest is now an international trend. Viktor Yushchenko's "orange" victory in the election campaign in Ukraine helped to establish the significance of the color, and no doubt we will be seeing it crop up in other corners of the world. A group that adopts orange for a campaign is following a trend, but can the same also be said of the individual who adopts the campaign? And what about someone who continues to wear orange on his head even after the trend has in fact passed? Good God, I need professional help! The locus classicus of the new word shart is a 2004 film script. I first heard it in this dialogue from the 2004 movie comedy "Along Came Polly" starring Ben Stiller, Jennifer Aniston and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Two old school buddies meet years after school. The character played by Hoffman is a vulgar professional buffoon, a slob and a failure who glommed one tiny moment of acting fame and then sank into deserved thespian obscurity.
