flipflop flipflops sandals fitflop

flipflop flipflops sandals

September 4, 2007 9:24 AM SubscribeI'm sick of buying Old Navy flip flops every year, only to have them wear out on me in early August, when I'd like to fitflop austrlia keep wearing them well into October.I'd like to invest in one or two really awesome 2013 Fitflops pairs that will last me through at least an entire year of wear, if not more. The style must be similar. Solid color, cushy sole, not too heavy, straps that are about the same width or a touch wider and don't irritate my feet. Preferably not too expensive, but if they'll last me several years I'd consider it. I'd like to start with solid black, but I would spring for a brown pair if I found something really good. So, any recommendations? Have any of you found flip flops that have held up continuously, or are they just typically made to be worn through quickly? Bonus points for something that has a little bit of arch support to it.posted by almostmanda to clothing, beauty, fashion (50 answers total) 13 users marked this as a Fitflop Via favoritei really like rainbow flip flops. they hold up real well and have arch support. I feel like for straight up flip flops, these are the best ones available.posted by alkupe at 9:26 AM on September 4, 2007 [2 favorites]Havaianas. I've worn the same black pair pretty much daily for over a year and 1/2 and they are still in good shape.posted by k8t at 9:26 AM on September 4, 2007Have you checked out Birkenstock?posted by fallenposters at 9:27 AM on September 4, 2007posted by chickaboo at 9:28 AM on September 4, 2007Rainbows will hold up forever. They'll chew your feet up the first few weeks you wear them, but then they'll be comfortable like none other. It's a Cali thing.posted by devilsbrigade at 9:33 AM on September 4, 2007 [1 favorite]Just buy a dozen from Old Navy. they'll still be cheaper than any "real" brand that will last.posted by smackfu at 9:34 AM on September 4, 2007I am a connoisseur of flip flops, and while rainbows are nice, and havaianas are ok, the most durable and comfortable I've worn are Reefs. I had a pair of plain black Reef flip flops, with arch support, that I wore almost daily for about 3 years before they finally gave up. They are amazing.Cobian flip flops are also nice, super comfortable, and last a long time.posted by The World Famous at 9:34 AM on September 4, 2007IMO, Old Navy 'flops are meant to be a knockoff of Havaianas so you'll find the style remarkably similar. I have a few Havs that are nearly 2 years old and only just starting to wear thin in the sole, I'll get next spring out of them too. For added convenience at a slightly higher price, you can pick up Havs for about $20 or less at Urban Outfitters (or order online direct).posted by bunnycup at 9:35 AM on September 4, 2007absolutely check out Rainbows. growing up in CA its like the official footwear.i now live in arizona and wear them every day (casual work environment). i've had the same pair for 4 years now with no end in sight.posted by uaudio at 9:36 AM on September 4, 2007yeah, Havaianas. and Vans, too.posted by matteo at 9:38 AM on September 4, 2007i wear mine all summer, and then the rest of the year indoors in my apartment (my feetsies demand i have footwear on at all times, alas).

Flattop Mountain fitflop

Flattop Mountain

Three hikers have been rescued in as many weeks from the trail up Anchorage's popular Flattop Mountain, which over the years has claimed the lives of a handful of hikers, climbers and runners. Even .

Is the trail dangerous, or are statistics mainly indicative of its popularity?

On Saturday, Anchorage resident Brian Patrick O'Quinn, 41, was medevaced off the mountain due to a sprained ankle and head injury. The week before, Australian Stefan Von Mergle Frote, 33, was medevaced after he became stranded near the top and twisted his ankle. And the week before that, 23 year old Mputu Nzaai of Germany was medevaced off the mountain on June 8after twisting her ankle while glissading down the mountain in the snow.

And summer is just getting started.

Flattop is billed as the "most often climbed peak in Alaska" by the Alaska Department of Natural Resources. The flat summit is 1.7 miles from the Glen Alps parking lot, where most climbs begin. Hikers climb 1,300 feet to the top, where a 360 degree view of Anchorage, Cook Inlet and surrounding mountains awaits.

Over the last 10 years, some 135,000 people have visited Flattop, said Chugach State Park superintendent Tom Harrison, and that's a conservative estimate. "I suspect it's on the low side," he said.

"If you know what you're in for, [the hike is] no big deal," Harrison said. But for people in flip flops and a T shirt, it may be more than they expected.

At least seven people have been rescued off of Flattop this year, but there may be more that cannot be searched in the Alaska State Troopers database, allowed spokeswoman Megan Peters.

Troopers are responsible for all land based search and rescue. After fielding calls for rescue, troopers either contact the volunteer based Alaska Mountain Rescue Group or Lifemed Alaska's medevac helicopter or both for assistance.

Lifemed Alaska will dispatch its helicopter from either 2013 Fitflops its Wolf Lake base in Palmer or another base in Soldotna to retrieve stranded hikers. Prices for a medical evacuation vary, but Lifemed's typical payment for a Flattop medevac is $7,900 per flight. Lifemed spokeswoman Cheryl Zernia stressed that none of that money comes from taxpayers, and is all paid for by insurance or the individual.

Peters said that the trail's overwhelming popularity is the reason behind the rescue calls.

"We've seen everything from sprained ankles to head injuries," Peters said. And then, of course, are the glissaders, who use the snow covered hillsides as a makeshift slide.

Last year, three people who slid down Flattop became stranded in 8 to 10 foot crevasses in the snow, said Bill Romberg of the Alaska Mountain Rescue Group (AMRG). "Sometimes people make decisions they regret later," Romberg said.

His organization is regularly called out to Flattop by the troopers, and Romberg estimated there had been about a dozen rescues in the last two years. Rescue calls off Flattop are "pretty routine," he said. "We know it's going to happen every year."

Hikers have perished on the popular peak.

Five people have died on the Flattop trail since the 1970s, according to a local database, due to falls, exposure and avalanches. At least one other hiker not included in the list, , died on Flattop in 2006 due to an avalanche. Five others have perished on Peak 3, located south of Flattop, and Ptarmigan Peak, which also can be accessed by the Glen Alps trailhead.

But fatal accidents are rare, Chugach State Park ranger Tom Crockett said. "You can't go by the horror stories most people don't have a problem."

Still, "anyone who does set foot on the mountain should treat it like it's a real mountain flipflop australia and not a carnival attraction." That means decent footwear, appropriate clothing and water.

Gauging the difficulty of a hike can be a challenge, as there's no national rating standard. While Flattop can be steep with it's own set of challenges, "by Alaska standards, it's pretty darn good," Harrison said. It's not muddy and is well maintained compared to many other trails.

Harrison pointed out that Flattop's "moderate to difficult" rating on a statetrail guideleaves it open to subjective interpretation. He terms it an "easy mountain hike with some exposure," meaning that some areas are steep and people need to be careful of missteps.

Still, Crockett has had to turn around on the mountain when the weather soured while hiking with family visiting from the Lower 48. "I didn't want to be remembered as the park ranger who led his southern relatives to disaster," he said.

Flattop's new parking lot, which is open during the daytime, should relieve crowds at the old parking lot and allow more people to hike the trail, Harrison said. He believes that the trail's popularity has only increased over time.

Harrison and Crockett agree that the trail's easy accessibility make it a prime choice for residents and visitors alike looking to spend a few hours in the backcountry.

"Just because it's close to town doesn't mean you can't have an accident," Romberg said.

Flattop by no means stands alone as a search and rescue hot spot in Alaska. Other frequented rescue locations are Harding Lake, south of Fairbanks, and Fitflop Via the hiking trails around Juneau. In the winter, Hatcher Pass and Petersville are hotspots for rescue calls. And during hunting season, the Denali Highway lights up with rescues. Basically, Peters said, it comes down to "anywhere people congregate."

Leather minimizes the potential for blisters.

Gently bend the flip flop from end to end, ensuring that it bends at the ball of the foot. Shoes of any kind should never fold in half.

Ensure that your foot doesn hang off of the edge of the shoe.

Don wear the same flip flops year after year. Inspect older pairs. If they show signs of severe wear, Don ignore irritation

between toes, where the toe thong fits. This can lead to blisters and infections.

Don wear flip flops while walking long distances. Even the sturdiest models offer little support.

Don do yard work while wearing flip flops.

Don play sports in flip flops.

Sam Hobert, 19, has suffered for his flip flops. A few years ago, he broke his right big toe after slamming his foot into a rock while hiking in New Hampshire in his favorite summertime footwear. On a warm day flipflop australia a few weeks ago, the George Washington University freshman was nursing foot blisters, courtesy of a pair of new brown leather 'flops from the Gap.

"It's looks over comfort," he said. "But I'm regretting it a little bit, I'm not going to lie."

It's springtime and flip flops the airy sandal with the distinctive thwack thwack soundtrack are back, much to the frustration of podiatrists. Wearing flip flops can cause problems ranging from stubbed toes and cuts to overuse injuries such as foot stress fractures.

Now that the weather is warm, said Howard Osterman, a podiatrist who has practiced in Washington for 20 years, he will see at least one patient with a flip flop injury every day through September.

The No. 1 problem Osterman sees from the shoes are overuse injuries such as stress fractures of the metatarsals, the five long bones that reach out to the toes. A stress fracture happens after constant, repetitive stress to a bone and is generally treated with rest, more supportive shoes and perhaps a walking boot.

Many of the less expensive flip flop styles consist of just a flat piece of rubber and the toe thong. The lack of arch support can cause another common foot injury plantar fasciitis, inflammation of the thick band of tissue along the bottom of the foot that causes a stabbing pain, especially in the heel. People with flatter arches are more prone to such overuse injuries because they need more support for their muscles and ligaments, Osterman said.

Flip flops also leave the feet unprotected and exposed to the elements, which can mean cold toes, sunburns, cuts and bruises.

Very few studies have looked at the pros and cons of flip flops. In 2008, Justin Shroyer, a biomechanics graduate student at Auburn University in Alabama, studied 39 college age men and women to see how they walked when wearing flip flops compared with sneakers. A native Floridian and a lifelong fan of flip flops, Shroyer was inspired to study the shoes when he noticed how many fellow students wore them all day long and when he realized that it was a practically untouched area of research in biomechanics.

Shroyer, now an assistant professor at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, found that while wearing flip flops, participants in his study took shorter steps. He hypothesized that this was because the wearer was trying to get his or her foot on the ground faster, to prevent the shoe from flying off. Also, flip flop wearers did not bring their toes up as much during the leg's swing phase because they tended to grip the sandals with their toes.

"Your toe flexors are fighting what you're naturally trying to do," Shroyer said. "It's kind of an antagonistic push pull, tug of war going on, and it's not happening in running shoes fitflop or bare feet."

The researchers speculated that the altered gait could result in pain from the foot up into the hips and lower back.

He joined Mayor Rich Munson and council members Rose Dempsey and Bill Gothmann in calling for restoration of the lower development densities the council granted and took away.

don think we were honest with those people, and that troubles me more than anything, Schimmels said in March.

Munson, Dempsey and Gothmann voted Tuesday to ask the Planning Commission to recommend a comprehensive plan change that would allow the council to restore lower densities in the northern part of Greenacres in 2009.

Council members Diana Wilhite, Dick Denenny and Steve Taylor opposed the motion. Under council rules, a tie vote is defeated.

Munson pointed out that council members could have delayed the vote until Schimmels could participate, but proponents didn ask and opponents didn offer.

The issue is fitflops rooted in zoning regulations inherited from Spokane County when Spokane Valley was incorporated five years ago. The county had rezoned Greenacres and other areas to allow smaller lot sizes.

After incorporation, the City Council adopted the county zoning on an interim basis and angry Greenacres residents persuaded the council to restore the old zoning in the northern part of Greenacres the area bounded by Mission Avenue, Barker Road and the curving Spokane River.

But the city officials subsequently developed a new code fitflop austrlia that essentially took back the zone change and established development densities similar to those county commissioners had imposed.

Tuesday motion would have asked the Planning Commission to consider a comprehensive plan change that would rezone northern Greenacres from R3, with 7,500 square foot minimum lot sizes, to R2, with a 10,000 square foot minimum.

Munson warned audience members the motion was probably dead on arrival, but residents and developers still gave their views.

have changed, and many home buyers no longer want or can afford the 10,000 square foot minimum lot sizes that residents demanded, real estate salesman Eric House told the council.

When to dribble a basketball after holding cheap

When to dribble a basketball after holding it with both hands

When to dribble a basketball after holding it with both flipflop australia hands?

ok so i play basketball for my middleschool and i know how to shoot and make layups and all fitflop austrlia that stuff but i dont know much about the rules. when i get the ball i cant move with out getting a double dribble penalty/foul. fitflop but when i watch games on the nba i see players like lebron james or derrick rose holding the ball in both their hands for maybe around 2 3 seconds and then letting the ball hit the ground again, and i dont see why that isnt a foul? so whats the difference between both?

1.) Dribble the basketball. Then hold it. Then dribble it again. That called a "double dribble". After you dribble and stop. That it. Your option number 3 is eliminated. You must now either pass or shoot.

2.) If you catch a ball. Dribble it and run with it and then stop. You can dribble again or move again. You are allowed to move one of your foot which is you pivot foot. But that hit.

What you maybe doing is moving without dribble the ball. That traveling. If you catch it and pause, you must dribble if you want to move with it. You cant just run with the ball without dribbling. That called "traveling".

But since you noted "double dribble". I guessing you are dribbling the basketball. Then holding it. And then dribbling it again. You can do that. Remember you are only allowed one chance to dribble. So after you dribble and stop, you gotta shoot it or pass it.
