このブログの目的は2つあります。

一つ目はブログに面白いニュースか

調査の考えることを書きたいです。

二つ目はフリーターのことで

みんなが意見交換などできる場にしたいです。

また、フリーターの人にはフリーターになるまで

のストーリーなど教えて欲しいです。

例えばストーリーを書くヒントは

下の質問を参考にしてみて、

I have two main purposes for this blog.

Firstly, I want to post up interesting news I hear/read and the thoughts I have on my research so that I can share it with you. Each week I will try and write a new blog. If you have comments please feel free to write them.

Secondly I want to ask freeters who read this blog to share their stories and comments with me if they want to.

If you are a freeter and you are interested to write your story here are some of the questions I have:

Why did you become a freeter. How many hours do you work each week? What do you do in your spare time? Are you happy with your jobs? What do you want to do in the future? Do you want to marry? Do you feel pressure from people around you to get a 'full-time' job, or do people support you?

If you are not a freeter but have comments of your own about freeter lifestyles, or about your own lifestyle then I would also love to hear your thoughts.

I hope we can make a sort of forum using this page :-)

私は2005年からロンドン大学の大学院生

（博士号学生）を始めました。

日本では筑波大学研究生で、

研究の対象場所は静岡県です。

来年九月まで日本にいる予定です。

私の研究はフリーターの人の生活スタイルについてです。

日本ではフリーターになる人がどんどん増えているので、

フリーターになる人についての気持ちや考え方など

研究をしたいと思っています。

今回日本に来る前に一度2001年から2005年まで

浜松市に住んでいました。

その時からフリーターについての記事を新聞で

良く見ていたように思います。

たいていの記事がフリーターの人の生活スタイルについて

否定的だったので疑問に思う点もありました。

イギリスにもフリーターがいるけど日本の働く考え方と

イギリスの働く考え方は違うと思います。

イギリスでは働いた経験（アルバイトの経験か正社員の経験）

とコミュニケーション能力があれば、

仕事をやめても新しい仕事は見つけることができます。

しかし私の印象では、日本ではそれは少し難しいと思っています。

私の研究の基本的な質問は

‘どうしてフリーターになりましたか？’

将来に何の仕事をしたいですか？

正社員になりたいですか？　

フリーターになったときに家族と友達は何を考えましたか？

あなたの回りの人はあなたを応援する気持ちがありましたか？

将来に結婚したいですか　などです。

それと実際に直接会って、

今までの生活や将来の夢なども聞きたいです。

Hi there.

I am currently a student at The University of London: SOAS (School of Oriental and African Studies) doing my PhD. I am in Japan to do a year of research and am affiliated to Tsukuba University.

My research is about freeters and their lifestyles. I want to explore why many young people (especially young men) are becoming freeters... There are freeters in England too but I think the way of thinking about work is different when comparing England and Japan. I became interested in this topic when I was living in Japan teaching English (I lived in Hamamatsu from 2001-2005). In recent years it seemed that every week when I read the newspaper there were articles about freeters. Most of them seemed quite negative and expressed concerns about the future of Japan. I wanted to find out more about this to see if freeter lifestyles are really so negative for the country!

I love my freedom and know that in England I can finish my job, travel and then find a new one if my experience and communication skills are good. But I always thought it was much more difficult to do this in Japan, so when I read about freeters I was interested to find out more about the people who become freeters!

Basically I want to find out: why people become freeters; how much/how many hours do people work; what they do in their spare time; what they want to do in the future; do they want to become full-time workers at some point; do they want to marry and have families etc. To do this I will interview people and ask them about their life histories and their hopes and dreams for the future.
