Have you noticed Okinawan dialect? Can you catch the words?

この間、バスガイドさんに沖縄の方言は母音３つからなりたっていることを学びました。a・i・u　です。日本語はa・i・u・e・oです。

While ago, I learned there are only 3 vowels, a・i・u. used in Okinawan dialect from a bus tourguide. Comparing with Japanese, it has 5 vowels, a・i・u・e・o.

あ→あ a→a

い→い 　 i→i

う→う u→u

え→い e→i

お→う o→u

に変わるそうです。 change to above way.

例）　 手　te→ti と変わるみたいです。

ex) hand(te) te changes to ti.

森川公園の駐車場から左に行くと森の川へ

右に行くと隣の宜野湾市博物館へとつながる道に打どりつきます。

嘉数高台公園　Kakazu Takadai Park

　この場所は沖縄戦時の激戦地です。日本軍が使用した「トーチカ」がまだ保全されており、戦争について学べる場でもあります。公園はきれいに整備されていて園内には世界平和を願う地球儀をイメージした展望台（写真：右上）があります。

　嘉数高地は、第二時大戦中に作戦名称第七〇高地と命名され、藤岡中将の率いる第六十二師団独立混成旅団、第十三大隊原大佐の陣頭指揮で約千人の将兵と約千人の防衛隊で編成された精鋭部と、作戦場自然の要塞の上に堅固な陣地構築がなされたため十六日間も一進一退の死闘が展開されたが遂に日本軍は矢尽き刃折れ後退したが、しかし米軍にとっては「死の罠」「いまわしい丘」だと恐れられた程に両軍共に多くの尊い人命を失った激戦地である。

"May Peace Prevail On Earth"

ジンとなる・・

1945（昭和20）年4月1日、沖縄本島の中部西海岸から

上陸し、南下した米軍は、嘉数を中心とした戦線で、

待ち構えた日本軍と最初の大規模な戦闘をはじめます。

戦闘の末に、日本軍は撤退し戦線は浦添・西原・首里そして

南部方向へと移りました。

　嘉数住民はテラガマ、チチフチャーガマなどの洞窟に避難し

ていました。日米両軍の戦闘がはじまる前に、南部方面へ避難した人と嘉数に残った人がいましたが、いずれも戦闘に巻き込まれ、住民の半数以上が亡くなりました。

嘉数周辺と本公園には、住民が避難した洞窟や日本兵が利用した「ミーガー」、戦闘で使用された「トーカチ」、戦闘を物語る「弾痕の塀」、沖縄戦で亡くなった嘉数住民の「嘉数の塔」、戦死した京都出身者の「京都の塔」などの慰霊碑が多数点在しています。

The Battle at Kakazu Ridge, Park

On April1, 1945, the U.S. Armed Forces landed on Okinawa. Kakazu Ridge was the sight of some of the bloodiest fighting during the battle of Okinawa. Japanese troops staunchly defended the ridge to try to keep the U.S. Forces from taking Shuri. The Americans finally overcame the Japanese and fored them to retreat to Urasoe, Nishihara, Shuri, and further south.

The people of Kakazu took refuge in the caves, such as Teragama and Chidefuchagama. Some Kakazu residents escaped to the southern part of the island and some remained in Kakazu. Half of Kakazu residents died during the fighting.

In this park and around Kakazu, there are several sites that serves as reminders of what took place here, including the caves the civilian used to take refuge in. There is also Miga- a cistem used by Japanese soldiers for drinking water. Tochika-a pillbow used to defend Kakazu Ridge, and a wall riddled with bullet holes which is an indication of just how fierce the fighting was. The Tower of Kakazu is a memorial to the people of Kakazu who died during the battle. The Tower of Kyoto is a monument remembering the Japanese soldiers from Kyoto who died in the fighting at Kakazu Ridge.

平和都市ぎのわん

この展望台は地球を象徴しています。

宜野湾市は昭和60年3月18日「反核、軍縮を求める平和都市を宣言しました。第二次世界大戦激戦地となったここ嘉数高台から世界の人々に恒久平和を呼びかけます。

宜野湾市民は子孫繁栄を願って人類滅亡と繋がる核兵器の撤廃と軍備の縮小を強く求めます。かけがいのに地球を人智をもって守りましょう。」　　宜野湾市

陣地壕：Underground bunkers

嘉数に駐屯した日本軍は、嘉数高地を中心とした周辺地域にいくつもの陣地壕を築きました。

　陣地壕の構築は、1944年（昭和19年）年の夏頃から開始されたようで、朝から夕方までの作業が毎日続けられました。兵士だけではなく、嘉数や周辺地域からも、老人や女性を含む多くの人々がかりだされました。

　陣地壕は、石灰岩をくりぬいコの字型に構築され、側壁には落盤防止用の坑木の跡もあります。嘉数高台には日本軍の主陣地が置かれたために、このような陣地壕が無数に構築されました。　　宜野湾市

The Japanese Forces were stationed in Kakazu and built up underground bunkers around the Kakazu Ridge and neighboring region.

The construction of the bunkers seems to have started from the summer of 1944. Not only soldiers but also Kakazu inhabitants and many other people from the neighboring region, including elderly men and women, were pulled into the construction, which continued daily from morning to evening.

The bunkers were dug out of limestone and square shaped(コ‐shape).There are many impressions from pit sprops used to shore up the sidewalls to prevent cave-ins. These underground bunkers were especially innumerable as the headquarters of the Japanese Forces were on Kakazu Ridge. Ginowan City

Kiyuna Gaa Spring～Kyuna Shell Mount～Kyuna shi-shi lions road

宜野湾市の伊佐交差点から普天間交差点、北中城村の安谷屋交差点をへて、中城城跡までの「なかぐすくへの道」の周辺には、キャンプズケラン内（一部返還される）も含め、たくさんの歴史文化財があります。この道を歩きながら、昔の人々の生活を学びましょう♪

There are many cultural assets inside Camp Zukeran(wil be return portion of the land) and around the Ginowan-Kitanakagusuku route pdestrian sidewalk from Isa Intersection to Nakagusuku Castle Ruins.

Let's learn the ancient-life while walking the route.

Kiyuna Gaa Springs supplied water to the people of Kiyuna Village for daily use. There are two wells located on the site. The well to the right was for the men of the village to use and is called ufugaa (Figure 1), and the well to the left was for the women to use and is called kaagwaa. The spring probably first became associated with the Kiyuna Village during the Late Gusuku (Castle) Period of Okinawa History in the 15th century. The limestone structures associated with Kiyuna Gaa Springs include components built in a style referred to as midarezumi (Allen and Nees, 1998). The site that Kiyuna Gaa Springs is located on is part of Camp Foster, but has been set aside and designated a joint use area. The Marine Corps and the Ginowan City Board of Education have access to the site through locked gates, and both agencies exercise management responsibilities for the protection and preservation of the site. The Ginowan City Board of Education is currently conducting excavations at the site and restoring the stone structures to their original state. The site is still used by local citizens as a source of water and a sacred prayer site. The structure and design of the two wells demonstrate a superior technology in stone masonry for the period and the Okinawa Prefectural Government considers the site a construction asset. Kiyuna Gaa Springs is listed as a Government of Japan Nationally Protected Historic Structure.

普天満宮；普天満洞穴～野嵩クシヌカー～野嵩石畳道編

Futenma Shrine and cave～Nodake Kushinukah～Nodake Stone-paved road

普天満宮　Futenma Shrine

宜野湾市で唯一の神社である。普天満宮の創建については、往昔、普天間の洞窟に琉球古神道神を祀った頃より始まりました。琉球国の王、尚金福王から尚泰久王の頃(1450～60年)に熊野権現を合祀したと伝えられています。

普天満宮には、仙人と女神の伝説が残っています。※別ページ：テーマ伝説で紹介

The only shrine in Ginowan. About the foundation of Futenma Shrine, it begins with enshrine God of Shinto inside the cave.
It is said that Kumano Gongen was enshrined together
between 1450 and 60, years of Sho-kinpuku and
Sho-taikyu, Kings of Ryukyu.

手水舎：place for ritual cleansing of hands and mouth with water when visiting shrines

手水作法：Instructing the visitor step by step with easy sentences and illustrations how to perform a symbolic cleansing called TEMIZU.

洞穴内の写真撮影はOKでしたが、WebへのUPはNGとのことでご紹介はできませんが・・・中にはアップされている方もいらっしゃるのでどうぞ検索してみて下さい。

洞穴を無料で見学することができます。拝殿の横にある授与所で申し込みをおこなうと巫女が洞窟入り口まで案内してくれます。

Taking pictures is allowed, but not allowed to put those on web site, thus can't introduce the cave by pictures, but you can find the pictures of cave, searching the internet.

You can go to cave with no charge, but need to apply for visit at the Juyojyo.

野嵩クシヌカー　Nodake Kushinukah

野嵩区民の共同生活用水として長く利用されてきた湧泉。伝統行事であるウマチーやウビナディなどの節々の拝み、子供の出生の時の湯浴みに使われる「産水」、新年を迎えるときに身を清める「若水」など区民一人一人の人生の節目に利用される大切な水として利用されてきました。
　
A spring, long time used for cooperate domestic water of Nodake area.

Worship when treditional events of Umachi and Binadi were held. Water used for bathing an newborn after delivery and for clense oneself to greet the new year.
　

野嵩石畳道　　　　Nodake Stone-paved road


琉球王朝時代に宜野湾間切と中城間切を結ぶ宿道に築かれた石畳道。

Stone paved road was built to connect Ginowan division and Nkagusuku division in age of Ryukyu Kindom.

石畳道で有名な金城町の石畳以外にも沖縄にはまだ幾つか石畳道が保全されています。

Kinjyo-cyo, Shuri is famous known for stone paved road, but there are more stone paved roads preserved.

オリオンビール工場　　 Orion Brewery

「まちゃやぐぁ」とは、食料品や生活必需品を取り扱っている沖縄の雑貨店のことです。お酒、タバコ、文具、お菓子等の生活に必要な物は何でも揃っていて非常に便利で身近な存在でした。時代の変化により次第に姿を消しつつあります。

本土復帰前は小売店が酒類の販売免許が取得できたことから、「まちやぐぁ」からオリオンビールは徐々に広まっていった。

"Macha-Gua" is a store sells goods for daily necessities
such as liqures, cigarets, stationary goods, snacks, etc...
It is very convenient and very irreplaceable store for the people, but it is desappearing by the time of change.

Time before Okinawa was returned to mainland, it was easy to get a license to sell liqure and "oiron beers" expanded gradually from the Macha-Gua.
