How did you spend your Christmas? It seems that Christmas is a big day in Japan.


クリスマスはどのように過ごしましたか？　日本でもクリスマスは大きな日になっているようですね。


2010 is almost over.

There's phrase that 'Time flies when you are having fun.'


2010年はもうすぐ終わりですね。

英語では「楽しいときはすぐに時間はすぎる」というフレーズがあります。


What was the best thing happened to you in 2010? ではand what was the worst?

2010年で一番よかったこと、最悪だったことはなんでしたか？


It's good to look back the year of 2010.

これを機にふりかえってみてください。


By the way, sometimes instead of saying 'Merry Christmas'we would say 'Happy Holidays!'

As you all know Christmas is an event for the people who believe in Christianity.

Somtimes it would be better to wish 'Happy Holidays!'


ところで、Merry ChristmasというフレーズのほかにHappy Holidays!というフレーズを使うこともあります。

みなさんの知っているとおり、クリスマスはキリストのお祝いのイベントです。

そのために、Happy Holidays!といってこの冬のホリデーをお祝いする言い方も一般的です。

hahaというのは英語で(笑)という意味です
他にもlolというのもよくつかいます。

Do you know what it means?　分かりますか？

LOLはlaugh out loudという意味で大爆笑といった感じです。

アメリカの携帯電話の絵文字は日本みたいにいっぱいいろいろないのでよくアルファベットと記号をつかって絵文字をつくることもいっぱいあります。


For Example...
:D 　　smiley face (笑って見えるからうれしい顔)
:( 　　 sad face (悲しい顔)
;D wink (ウィンクしてる顔)
;( also sad face (泣いてる顔)
:P hehe...(あっかんべの顔)　etc

more and more!

]]> https://ameblo.jp/global-english/entry-10709916896.html Wed, 17 Nov 2010 17:22:21 +0900 Ｄｉｅｔ？！ Ｙｅｓ, the three of us are going on a diet competition. The one who loses the most weight can have the Xmas for free. For sure, I, C, will get it!!! Mwahahahah!


Speaking of diet, I think most Japanese think it only means to cut down the food you consume and to lose weight. It has another meaning: eating habbit.


When you say "My diet is healthy," it could mean that you are eating healthily, not necessarily trying to lose weight.


Personally, I cannot fast, meaning to stop eating. It absolutely stresses me out and I turn out to eat more.

So I decide to indulge myself in anything I wanna eat but stop eating after 6pm everyday.

I feel the fat decreasing.


After my kenshouen in the left wrist recovers, it is time for hard-core exercise, of course for the free and luxurious Xmas dinner and I need to wear a tiny dress in my friend`s wedding on the first of Jan, 2011.

本日11：00～のクラスには、4組の親子が来てくださっています。




講師たちが日本語もペラペラなため、


会話に詰まると、どうしても皆さん、日本語を交えて話し始めてしまいます。


それでもOK！

　

楽しく会話をすることが大切なんです。




しかし・・・本日は日本語禁止デー。



これまでのレッスンの成果もあってか、


日本語が全く聞こえてこない。。。



素晴らしい！！！





トピックは　「ダイエット」



実は、講師たちと私、互いにダイエットを誓ったのです。



とりあえずは、一か月で３㎏減。



ママたちは、子どもがいると思えないくらい、皆さんスリム。



いったいどんなダイエットをしているのか、講師たちは興味深々。



私も非常に気になります。。。





さてさて、テーマはいつの間にか　「クリスマス」　に移ってました。



皆で歌ってますね～。


「Santa Claus Is Coming To Town」



楽しそうです。



もうクリスマスの時期なんですね。




講師たちは、教室のクリスマスの飾りつけはどうしようか？



なんて今から張り切っています。




最後は　「Head, Shoulders, knees and toes」



2歳のあーちゃんは英語の歌とダンスが大好き。



「あーちゃん、Head、Shoulders　やるぅ！！」



って講師におねだりしてます。




あーちゃん、かわいい・・・ラブラブ





ちなみに下の写真は、先月の　Halloween Party


皆で仮装して、お料理を持ち寄って、楽しいパーティでした。

'Who are you?'

と聞く人が多いみたいです。

でも実は'Who are you?'はとても失礼なんです！

日本語で意訳すると、'誰あんた？'みたいなかんじです。

パーティーなどで新しい人にいっぱい会って、とりあえず自己紹介されて、

'Hi I'm John'
'Hey I'm Derrick'
'Glad to meet you I'm Taylor'

一気にいろんな人の名前を覚えるのは大変！
そういうときに、後でもう一回名前ききたいな～というときでも、

'Who are you?'
ではなくて、

'May I have your name, again?' 'May I ask your name again? I couldn't catch it.'

というととてもポライト！

電話の時も、
'May I have your name please?' とか 'Who's speaking?'とかが一般的です。

あせっても、who are you はだめです。

Then she asked for my name but instead of "May I have your name?" she said "Who are you?"
I could instantly felt the blood rushing to my head.

Asking someone "Who are you?" is rather rude on the phone. And since Japanese is monotone, Idon`t think the staff could tell the difference in tones in English. The tone she used was RUDE.
Good thing I kept myself calm and did not yell at her.

C先生は日本人の友達にそういわれたそうです。C先生の頭の中は???

「え？私は今日はラフ？」

日本でよくそんな会話をききます。Attention! これは日本語英語(Japanese-English)です!！

きっとラフ＝カジュアルと思ってつかっているんだと思います。

No No NOOOO!

ラフ(rough)というのは英語では少し違う意味になってしまうのです。

ラフというとイメージ的に何にもされてない状態といったかんじ。

「今日はラフだね」というと...

ひげをそってない
髪の毛ぼさぼさ
むだ毛の処理をちゃんとしてない etc...

なんかそんなかんじにきこえてしまうのです。磨かれてないってかんじですね。


でも性格をラフということは時々あります。

例えば、女の子でもスポーツで男の子と張り合えるようなアグレッシブな子を

'She's rough' とか　'She's tough'

といったりはします。

でも格好がカジュアルなことろラフとはいいません！

こんな日本語英語がい～っぱいあります。

気をつけてください！

あろは～
最近、ブログを全然アップデートしてませんでした。日記とかジャーナルを続けるのはあまり得意じゃないんだけど...いいわけはだめね。
excuseというのはいいわけとか口実とか学校をお休みするときにお医者さんからもらうお休みしますという届けとかいろいろな意味があります。
みんなでごはんを食べているときに、ちょっとおトイレ！なんていうときにも、'May I be excused?'と一言いいたいときにつかいます。

Anyways today i will introduce you a little bit about our English school.

今日はわたしたちの英会話スクールについて紹介します。

Currently we open our school every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
We have two 'mother-baby' english classes. One starts at 9:30AM and the other starts at 11:00 AM. Each class is one hour long.
We usually have 4 to 5 pairs of mother and baby.

英会話スクールは毎週月・水・金曜日にオープンしています。
小さい赤ちゃんがいるお母さんのための'マザー・ベビー'レッスンは２つの時間にわかれていて、9:30と11:00から両方あります。どちらも１時間のクラスです。赤ちゃんを一緒につれてきて、お母さん同士で情報をシェアーしながら楽しく英会話を勉強しています。今のところはだいたい４、５組のお母さんと赤ちゃんがそれぞれのクラスでお勉強しています。

In the afternoon, we teach one-to-one lessons starting from 4:00PM. Of course you can bring your own kids if you don't have a baby sitter. It's about 50 minutes long.

お昼から夜にかけてはマンツーマンレッスンです。
１コマ約５０分で会話中心の英会話が勉強できます。子供がいて、英会話できない～という人のためにも子供を連れてきて、お母さんのレッスン中に子供が遊べるスペースもあるから安心してお勉強に集中できます。会社員の方も大歓迎です。


Of course all the teachers are native speakers. Luckily they speak good Japanese as well. For some students only speaking in English don't help them much. You need to understand vocabularies and grammar in your native language.

もちろん、先生はみんなネイティブスピーカー。
そしてなんと日本語も話すことができます。生徒さんによっては、英語だけだと、耳はなれても、根本的な言葉の意味がわからないということが多いために、生徒さんの分からないところをなくすために、希望によって日本語と英語両方をつかって勉強する生徒さんもいます。


No worries! We provide classes with different levels.
We use any kind of English materials. If you are so into fashion we can use a fashion magazine as a textbook. If you like watching movies you can learn from the movie.

プライベートレッスンは色んなレベルで勉強できます。
教材はなんでもOK.　ファッションに興味のある生徒さんは英語のファションマガジンやゴシップマガジンをつかったり、映画が好きなひとはインターネットで映画をみたり。自由にひとりひとりのニーズにあったレッスンができます。


My students enjoy learning English.
We try our best to make our lessons fun!

毎日みんなで楽しく英語の勉強してます。

今日は金曜日！ビール飲んで、大騒ぎして、マッサージしてリラックスできる日！

'Thanks God it's Friday!!'
For the majority Friday is the last day of the school or work week. People are ready to relax on weekends, Saturday and Sunday.

TGI Friday'sというレストランが日本にもいっぱいあるのでみなさんもうしっているかもしれないですが、TGI FridayとはThanks God it's Fridayの略です。
金曜日は平日の最後の日。学校や仕事から終わって休みに入るぞ～とみんなうきうきです

もっともっとあります。

As you know, when the thirteenth day of a month falls on a Friday which is considered to be a day of bad luck. It's a part of the superstitions.

１３日の金曜日は日本でも有名ですね。その月の１３日が金曜日だと不吉だ～と言ってる人をよくみます。
これは“最後の晩餐”と関わるエピソードからきている迷信のひとつです。

Do you know 'Black Friday'?

ではブラック・フライデーは何か知っていますか？

It's the Friday following American Thanksgiving Day. It's Christmas shopping day! It's not an official day but lots of people have the day off and go shopping. Every store offers doorbuster deals! 50% 60% and even 70% discounts! Some stores open at 5AM or even earlier.

Black Fridayとはアメリカのサンクスギビングホリデーの金曜日のことをさします。
アメリカではクリスマスギフトを買う大きな日ともなっています。どこの店もセール、セール、セール！！５０％から70%もディスカウントの特売日です。お店によっては５時よりも早く開店なんてところもいっぱい。
ビジネスに気合いが入る日です。

これは祝日やカレンダーで決まっているオフィシャルな日ではないのですが、アメリカの人はサンクスギビングに休みをとる人が多いので、それが買い物客を増やすともいわれています。


If you love shopping maybe it would be a good idea to travel during Thanksgiving.


もしショッピングが好きな人はアメリカのサンクスギビングホリデーのアメリカへ旅行するのもいいかも？

こんにちは。

mai kakouはハワイ語でみなさんという意味です。


My kumu (meaning a teacther in Hawaiian language) in Hawaii always started class with this phrase.

Then everyone answered ' Alooooooohaaa!!'


Kumuはハワイ語で先生です。

先生がそういうとクラスみんなが先生にAloooohaと言ってかえします。


How are you enjoying this summer so far?

Summer in Tokyo is too hot and humid!!


みなさんはこの夏をどのようにおすごしですか？

それにしても東京の夏は蒸し暑い！！


When I was in college I spent one year in University of Hawaii at Manoa. (UHM)

It was my first time living in Hawaii. I was surprised how people in Hawaii were friendly and laid-back.


私はハワイ大学マノア校で1年間すごしました。

私はハワイで暮らしたのははじめてだったので、とてもフレンドリーでのんびりしているハワイの人や文化にびっくりしました。


Also I realized that many Japanese people love to travel to Hawaii.


また日本人の観光客もいっぱいいてびっくりしました！


I miss Hawaii's nice weatherショック！　I want to go back～


ハワイの良い気候がなつかしいです。

戻りたい～


ということで時々ハワイをはじめアメリカの文化なども紹介します。
