英語や国際情勢を学習されている皆様が当ブログを効果的に活用する方法：

恐縮ですが、著者の経験を基にした本書の読み方を説明させていただきます。

著者はピアノ演奏が趣味で、現在は、実力をかなり超えるショパンの「幻想即興曲」に取り組んでいます。正直、無謀ともいえる目標を掲げています。
しかし、およそ5カ月経った今では、楽譜をほぼ記憶して、指もスローペースながば楽譜通りに動きます。

ここまでのステップを本書の記事の読み方に当てはめてみます。

ステップは以下の通り。

ステップ1：
・ピアノ：楽譜の1小節の楽譜を読み取り、その通りに指を動かす。
・本書：数個の単語（パラフラフ）の部分に目を通して、その意味を理解する。リスニングの場合は、動画を見ながら、目で文字を、耳で音声を同時にインプットしながらその意味を理解します。

ステップ2：
・ピアノ：楽譜の2小節目を読み取り、指を動かす。
・本書：ステップ1に続く文章のパラグラフに目を通し、その意味を理解する。リスニングの場合は、ステップ①と同じ手順です。

※記事に出てくる用語は【記事を読みながら覚える】ことになります。そういった用語も記事の中の「単語の一つ」として読み進めます。記事を読むリズムを途中で乱さず1本の記事に集中する力をつけるためです。１本の記事を読み終われば、用語も内容と共に記憶されている場合が多いです。

以降、同じ手順で進めていきます。

結果：
・ピアノ：楽譜がほぼ頭の中に記憶され、指もスローで動く。
・本書：後に続くパラグラフ（数個の英文と日本語訳）も次々に脳にインプットされて、内容（概要）が脳に記憶される。リスニングの場合も、パラグラフを聞き取り瞬時に意味を理解する脳が徐々に構築される。

ピアノの練習も、本書で記事を読むことも、決して先を急がず（結果を求めず）、ちょっとずつ、しかし確実に進めることで、最後に【目的の達成】に辿り着きます。

【目標の設定】は今の自分のピアノの能力を基本にしつつ、それをはるかに超えるレベルを目指します。私は今のピアノの実力を理解して、はるかに超える「幻想即興曲」を設定しました。

　しかし、「幻想即興曲」では、プロのピアニストの神がかり的なスピード演奏は「最初から無理」と認識して、「80％程度のスピードで良し」に設定しています。5カ月経った今では、未だ時間はかかりますが、80％のスピードなら達成する自身が湧いてきています。（※80％の速さでも、猛烈な速さでは醸し出せない、別の意味での美しくさを表現することができます）

「英文速読」と「リスニング」も同じです。本書の記事を先ほど紹介したステップを先を急がず根気よく継続すれば、どこでも通用する英語力が身につきます。非英語圏の我々日本人は、「100％読み取る、100％聞き取る」という目標ではなく、「80％程度の理解で良し」を目標にすると達成が超現実的になります。

長い英文では最初のパラグラフから、長い楽譜では最初の1小節から始めて、後に次々とパラグラフ、あるいは小節を繋げていく地道な作業が、「大輪の花を咲かせる」のです。
