TORONTO, May 8 (Reuters) - David Krejci scored in overtime to complete a hat trick thatgave the Boston Bruins a 4-3 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday and a commanding lead in their playoff series.

the Maple Leafs, back in the postseason for the first time in nine years, are now staring at an early playoff exit as they trail the best-of-seven first-round series 3-1 with Game Five set for Boston on Friday.

Krejci's third goal left a capacity crowd at the Air Canada Centre stunned in disbelief after the Maple Leafs had largely controlled play during a thrilling overtime that was played at furious pace.

Breaking in on a two-on-one with Milan Lucic, Krejci picked the short side on Toronto netminder James Reimer for his fifth of the playoffs 13 minutes into overtime.

"I was looking to pass the whole way but Lucic is a lefty and he was on his backhand so that kind of made my decision a little easier," Krejci told reporters.

"I also had (Zdeno Chara), I was really thinking about leaving it for him for a one-timer because he's got the best one-timer in the league but they took him away at the last second so I just tried to shoot it.

"In overtime there is never a bad shot. It wasn't a perfect shot but it went in."

Toronto had jumped out to 2-0 lead in the first period on goals from Joffrey Lupul and Cody Franson before Boston stormed back with second period tallies from Patrice Bergeron and a pair from Krejci to move in front 3-2.

But the Boston lead lasted all of 44 seconds before Clarke MacArthur answered for the Maple Leafs when he slammed home a big rebound past Tuukka Rask.

Toronto had a glorious chance to regain control of the contest when they were handed a two-man advantage for the final 41 seconds of the period but could not find the back of the net.

In the third period it was Boston's chance to retake the lead when Toronto's Nazem Kadri was given four-minute penalty for high-sticking Chris Kelly in the face but Toronto killed off the man-advantage bringing the capacity crowd at the Air Canada Centre to its feet.

Neither team could find the back of the net during an edge-of-your-seat third period that sent the contest to overtime.

"It feels like a dagger after the effort that was put forth by our group," said Toronto coach Randy Carlyle. "It was a man's hockey game out there. There was a lot of energy, a lot of physical play but that's the way the playoffs are played." (Editing by Frank Pingue)

FIRST PERSON | In the summer of 2010, I found myself at a major turning point. I was leaving the Marine Corps for the second and final time. My career as a Marine officer spanned about 10 years. I served in numerous combat tours both in Iraq and Afghanistan. Before leaving, I couldn't help but reflect on the darkness that consumed my thoughts and the cold numbness which halted my ability to feel emotions. In a rare moment of what I thought was "weakness," I decided to visit the mental health clinic. It was then I was first diagnosed with a moderate to high level of PTSD.

The countless horrors of war never bothered me, or so I thought. After my diagnosis and re-entry into civilian life, I noticed this was not the case. I had a cold, dark, and sometimes cruel outlook on the world. I spent much of my free time hiding away in my condo. The walls were barren and unpainted. The blinds always closed. I wanted no connection with a world I felt disgusted to be a part of. I hardly slept, maybe three hours on a good night.

Many of the activities I once enjoyed no longer held my interest. I found it difficult to feel love. Even family members seemed to be out of reach. My mind swam in a dark fog. I knew what I was supposed to feel but couldn't connect with that part of me anymore.

I am now 34 and living in Southern California. Each day I deal with PTSD. Some days I am all right. Others I am dark and jaded. I find it hard to control it sometimes. My loving wife and daughter see past it and deal with me when I am "Dark Dave," as they call it. Were it not for them and the rest of my family, I think the PTSD would have consumed me long ago. Most days I am optimistic that I can control it and try to feel at peace. But that cloud in my mind feels like being lost in a stormy sea. I don't always beat it. Only my family and God have the lifeline I cling to for salvation.

It is my hope that others will hear my story and take comfort in the knowledge that there is no "weakness" in admitting that war or any event causes PTSD. There is sometimes, especially in the military, a stigma attached to PTSD. I would hope people, especially veterans, would understand that there is no shame in PTSD. True warriors know real strength is found in admitting your problems. In doing so we help to free others held by similar chains.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Former Diamondback Capital Management portfolio manager Todd Newman was sentenced to 4-1/2 years in prison on Thursday for insider trading in the stock of Dell Incand Nvidia Corp .

U.S. District Judge Richard Sullivan also ordered Newman, 48, to forfeit $737,724 and to pay a $1 million fine.

Sullivan called Newman a "decent" man and said it "breaks my heart" to have read letters about the impact his incarceration could have on his 12-year-old daughter, but that a stiff penalty was warranted.

"This is a serious crime," Sullivan said, before delivering his sentence in U.S. District Court in Manhattan. "This is a crime that does have an impact across an economy and across a society."

Sullivan reserved judgment on whether Diamondback should receive restitution as a victim of Newman's crimes. Prosecutors had requested Newman reimburse Diamondback as much as $12.9 million.

The firm, which closed in December, was seeking $39 million to recoup costs from its ties to the investigation, which caused clients to withdraw nearly three-fourths of the more than $5 billion of assets it once managed. The firm also previously agreed to pay $9 million to settle civil charges.

But Sullivan asked if it was "kind of perverse" to consider Diamondback a victim.

Diamondback should have prevented the trades from happening, and conceivably could have been charged, he said. And it could discourage firms from imposing strict compliance procedures, allowing them to either profit from undetected insider trading or seek restitution from traders when they are caught.

"It's hard to get one's head around that Diamondback is a victim when Diamondback could have been charged," Sullivan said.

A non-prosecution agreement the firm reached with prosecutors found that there was no evidence that Diamondback's co-founders knew about Newman's conduct, Peter Neiman, a lawyer for Diamondback, said in a statement after the sentencing.

"Judge Sullivan has asked for additional information before deciding whether he agrees with the government's request to award Diamondback restitution, and Diamondback looks forward to providing that information," Neiman said.

Newman and Anthony Chiasson, co-founder of now-defunct hedge fund Level Global Investors, were convicted of conspiracy to commit securities fraud and securities fraud in December. Chiasson awaits sentencing on May 13.

Newman is the 48th person to be sentenced since August 2009 in the government's vast crackdown on insider trading. A total of 73 people have been convicted, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Manhattan.

"Efforts to cheat the market by gaining an illegal edge ultimately lead to a loss of one's liberty, as it did for Todd Newman today," Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said in a statement.

Federal prosecutors had requested that Newman serve as much as 6-1/2 years in prison for his crimes, which led to roughly $4 million of illegal profit. Newman was involved in a scheme that lasted more than two years and involved several analysts who Newman knew were providing insider information, said Antonia Apps, an assistant U.S. attorney.

"That was all transparent to Mr. Newman," Apps said.

Newman, who did not speak at his sentencing, had requested a sentence "significantly below" what prosecutors wanted; he also had asked to remain free on bail pending appeal of his conviction. Sullivan reserved judgment on whether Newman will remain free pending his appeal.

Newman's attorneys portrayed him as a devout father and a "fundamentally kind, generous and decent human being."

"This is not who he is," Newman's lawyer, John Nathanson, told Sullivan. "His reputation has been decimated."

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp will unveil its much-anticipated next-generation Xbox on May 21 following months of speculation the company is gearing up to announce a new video game console this summer.

The company sent out media invitations on Wednesday, hinting it would be announcing the successor to its seven-year old Xbox 360. A new console from the software company will come on the heels of rival Sony's announcement in February that it will launch the PlayStation4 this holiday season.

Microsoft's May event will be held at its Xbox campus in Redmond, Washington, just a month before the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, the gaming industry's largest annual convention, where next-generation consoles will be spotlighted.

"On May 21, we'll mark the beginning of a new generation of games, TV and entertainment," the company said on its official blog.

The Xbox 360 is the market-leading console that has an installed user base of 76 million. Gaming blogs have been afire with speculation about what features a next-generation console might offer, but Microsoft has been tight-lipped so far.

The current version of the Xbox sports voice- and gesture-command capabilities.

Shares in Microsoft were up 3.1 percent at $31.53 in the afternoon.

"Its incredible, you just try to live an honest genuine life and the next thing you know, you've got the president calling you," he told ABC's Good Morning America on Tuesday.

Collins said President Barack Obama had been encouraging in the telephone conversation.

"He was incredibly supportive and said he was proud of me and said this not only affected my life but others going forward," he said.

Asked about the scale of reaction to his decision to come out, Collins said: "That's kind of mind-boggling... I never set out to be the first," he said.

"I'm ready to raise my hand but, you know, you still look around like, 'OK, come on guys.'

"It's time for someone else in the room to raise their hand and say: 'You know what? Yeah, so big deal. I can still play basketball. I can still help the team win, and that's what's most important,'" he added.

The 34-year-old center revealed his sexuality in an article published by Sports Illustrated on Monday and said he was glad that he was now 'out'.

"I know that I, right now, am the happiest that I've ever been in my life," he said.

"A huge weight has been lifted. I've already been out to my family and my friends, but just to, you know, sort of rip the Band-Aid off and come out on my own terms."

Collins is currently a free agent after spending last season with the Boston Celtics and Washington Wizards but said he expects future team-mates to welcome him.

"From my team-mates I am expecting support because that is what I would do for my team-mates, team is like a family and the NBA is like a brotherhood and I am looking it at that we will all support each other on and off the court," he said.

Asked about what advice he would give to a young gay man hoping to make it in the NBA, Collins said he should focus on the game.

"It doesn't matter that you are gay but the key thing is - its about basketball. Its about working hard, its about sacrificing for your team," he said.

Collins could well be the first of several gay players intop sports to come out but he said everyone's decision on how open to be was based on their own circumstances.

Beyond their often spirited repartee in the hearing room, Representative Van Hollen ofwas among the most fervent in trying to oust Republicans across the country in the 2012 election for their support of the budget plan championed by theRepublican. Mr. Ryan excoriated ' own budget priorities as the 's vice presidential nominee.

Yet ifis going to find the grand fiscal accord that has proved so elusive, these two longtime antagonists will play a central role. On both the politics and policy of the budget, Van Hollen and Ryan are bellwethers of their respective conferences. As much as any two people in Congress, they would be critical in rallying their colleagues to get a deal that has the tax increases Republicans abhor and the entitlement changes Democrats equally detest.

While their political fights have been intense, the two men harbor a personal affinity and respect for each other, in no small part due to their similar dispositions. Both are amicably wonkish former congressional staffers. Both are rising stars within their own parties Ryan is a potential 2016 presidential contender while Van Hollen is widely regarded as the favorite to replace House minority leader(D) ofshould she retire.

If there's going to be any movement on a "grand bargain" this summer and signals from the president and leading lawmakers in both parties indicate there will be another attempt to fashion one many expect the legislation to originate in the Senate. The path to passage there is more clear-cut.

But if such a bill were to land in the House, it would be Ryan and Van Hollen who would shoulder the responsibility for either supporting or sacking it. Rank-and-file members "want to know, is that policy going to work?... It's tough for normal members to know how effective or not effective" any politically uncomfortable grand bargain might be at actually fixing the nation's fiscal problems, says , president of the Commission for a Responsible Federal Budget.

Politically, the two men will play similar roles. On the right, Ryan has been a liaison between the GOP leadership and the party's fractious, more junior base of conservatives on setting a strategy on spending issues. It would almost certainly fall to him to fight for any sweeping fiscal deal among the chamber's most conservative members.

"He's pretty critical in bringing these young guys along because he's respected, and he's been at it so long," says formerof , a centrist who was himself considered a dealmaker in the House.

Van Hollen, too, has carved out a niche as the go-to source for House Democrats on budget issues. "People absolutely turn to him, increasingly, for advice on budget and related fiscal matters," says Rep. Gerry Connelly (D) of Virginia.

But will these two budget warriors reach an accord? Ryan has shown a willingness to make tough calls in the past. He voted for the bailout of financial institutions, has been a longtime sponsor of comprehensive immigration reform, and broke with two of his closest colleagues in the GOP leadership to vote for the year-end "fiscal cliff" tax deal. He recently lunched withand Van Hollen to discuss financial issues and said his budget was an "invitation" to a broader discussion with Democrats.

"Ryan, within the Republican Party, [has] taken on this image of being the kingmaker both intellectually but also politically," says , a congressional historian at Prince-ton University. "In the end, for a real deal or a real drama, you need a 'Nixon goes to ' moment, and he's the one who could do it."

While Ryan may have to endure a proposal with more tax increases, Van Hollen's challenge will be acquiescing to reforms to sacred Democratic programs likeand .

Perhaps boding well for such talks is that Ryan and Van Hollen have already gone through multiple rounds of fiscal negotiations: Both understand all the pressure points. "In some ways, the answer is hiding in plain sight," Van Hollen says. "On the other hand, it's been very difficult to get there."
