The show stars Peter Krause as Nate Fisher, whose funeral director father (Richard Jenkins) dies and bequeaths ownership of Fisher & Sons Funeral Home to him and his brother David (Michael C. Hall). The Fisher clan also includes widow Ruth Fisher (Frances Conroy) and daughter Claire Fisher (Lauren Ambrose). Other regulars include mortician and family friend Federico Diaz (Freddy Rodriguez), Nate's on-again/off-again girlfriend Brenda Chenowith (Rachel Griffiths), and David's long-term boyfriend Keith Charles (Mathew St. Patrick).

On one level, the show is a conventional family drama, dealing with such issues as interpersonal relationships, infidelity, and religion. At the same time, it is distinguished by its focus on the topic of death, which it explores on personal, religious, and philosophical levels. Each episode begins with a death, the cause of which ranges from heart attack to murder to sudden infant death syndrome. That death usually sets the thematic tone for each episode, allowing the characters to reflect on their current fortunes and misfortunes in a way that is illuminated by the death and its aftermath. The show also uses dark humor and surrealism throughout its seasons.

A recurring plot device consists of a character having an imaginary conversation with the deceased; for example, Nate, David, and Federico sometimes 'converse' with the deceased at the beginning of the episode, while the corpse is being embalmed, or during funeral planning or the funeral itself. Sometimes, the characters converse with other deceased characters, most notably Nathaniel Fisher, Sr. The show's creator Alan Ball avers that this represents the living characters' internal dialogues expressed in the form of external conversations.^[4]

Concept[edit]

Although overall plots and characters were created by Alan Ball, reports conflict on how the series was conceived. In one instance, Ball stated that he came up with the premise of the show after the deaths of his sister and father. However, in an interview,^[5] he intimates that HBO entertainment president Carolyn Strauss proposed the idea to him. In a copyright-infringement lawsuit,^[6] screenwriter Gwen O'Donnell asserted that she was the original source of the idea that later passed through Strauss to Ball; the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, proceeding on the assumption that this assertion was true, rejected her claim. Ball stated in an interview:^[7]

Major themes[edit]

The show focuses on human mortality, the symbiotic nature of life and death feeding off of each other, and the lives of those who deal with it on a daily basis. When discussing the concept of the show, creator Ball elaborates on the foremost questions the show's pilot targeted:^[5]

Christian Williams was just on staff for the first season, writing two episodes. Both Laurence Andries and Christian Taylor wrote three episodes each during their run on the series for the first two seasons, and they also served as producers. Scott Buck and Jill Soloway joined in the second season, staying on staff for the rest of the series, and each wrote seven episodes. Buck became a co-executive producer in the fourth season, and Soloway became a co-executive producer in the fifth season. The last set of writers to join the staff were Craig Wright and Nancy Oliver in the third season. Wright wrote six episodes and became a producer in the fifth season and Oliver wrote five episodes and became a co-producer in the fifth season.^[10]

Ball also directed the most episodes, directing the pilot and each of the season finales. Dan Attias also directed six episodes, from seasons two to five. Kathy Bates (who also played Bettina on the series), Michael Cuesta, Rodrigo García, and Jeremy Podeswa each directed five episodes. Michael Engler, Daniel Minahan, and Alan Poul (who also served as an executive producer for the series) each directed four episodes. Miguel Arteta directed three episodes and Nicole Holofcener directed two episodes. Single-episode directors included Peter Care, Alan Caso, Lisa Cholodenko, Allen Coulter, Adam Davidson, Mary Harron, Joshua Marston, Jim McBride, Karen Moncrieff, John Patterson, Matt Shakman, Alan Taylor, Rose Troche, and Peter Webber.^[10]

The series' main theme, written by composer Thomas Newman, won a 2002 Emmy Award for Outstanding Main Title Theme Music and two Grammy Awards in 2003 for Best Instrumental Composition and Best Instrumental Arrangement.

The production sound from seasons three through five was mixed by Bo Harwood, and was nominated in 2004 for a Cinema Audio Society Award.

Seasons two through five featured a promotional teaser trailer prior to the premiere of that season. The songs featured in each season's trailer were 'Heaven' by Lamb for season two; 'A Rush of Blood to the Head' by Coldplay for season three; 'Feeling Good' by Nina Simone for season four; and 'Breathe Me' by Sia Furler for season five, which is also used for montage in the series finale. All these songs are included in either of two soundtracks for the show.

The episode recaps for the first two seasons feature the song 'Nothing Lies Still Long' by Pell Mell. The episode previews for the first and fifth seasons feature the Six Feet Under title theme, while the other seasons feature the Rae & Christian remix version of the title theme.

Music supervision for the entire run of the series was provided by Gary Calamar and Thomas Golubic, who were also credited as producers for the two soundtrack albums.

Six Feet Under was met with critical acclaim. The first season holds a rating of 74% at Metacritic based on 23 reviews.^[15] Early reviews of the series were positive, prior to the screening of the pilot episode; Steve Oxman of Variety stated, 'Six Feet Under is a smart, brooding, fanciful character-driven ensemble piece about a family in the funeral biz.'^[16] Following the series premiere, Barry Garron of The Hollywood Reporter commented that the series' 'examination of family life through the prism of a mortuary business, combines sardonic humor with poignant drama and comes up with a unique tone and style, in itself quite an accomplishment for any TV series. For the Golden Globe Awards, the series won for Best Drama Series in 2001, and received nominations in 2002 and 2003. Peter Krause was nominated for Best Actor in a Drama Series in 2001 and 2002. Few days ago. I bought lenovo y50 and it comes with: Windows 8.1 single language X64 ( Pre-Installed ) 1 - I need to get the installation image to reinstall system again. ( without using recovery ).

At first glance, Lenovo’s notebook model names can look like alphabet soup. Fortunately, you don’t need to stay up all night scratching your head and wondering how an IdeaPad Z530 differs from a ThinkPad L410. We’ve got a simple explanation of Lenovo’s model-naming scheme.

The most basic distinction in Lenovo’s naming structure is between its three main laptop lines: ThinkPad, IdeaPad, and “Essential” notebooks.

Lenovo ThinkPads

Lenovo’s ThinkPads are its world-famous business portables. Though the Edge series has a somewhat sleeker aesthetic, all ThinkPads share the same design heritage, complete with that iconic red TrackPoint in the middle of their keyboards.

Lenovo ThinkPads are divided into six series, each of which is designated either by a single letter or by the “Edge” series sub-brand.

The ThinkPad series are:

• X Series: The super-slim portable line includes the 11-inch ThinkPad X120e, the 12-inch ThinkPad X220 with its associated X220 convertible tablet, and the upcoming 13-inch ThinkPad X1.
• T Series: The popular thin-and-light ThinkPad series includes the 14-inch ThinkPad T410 and T420 and the 15-inch ThinkPad T510 and T520. Models ending ending in “s” (e.g., the T410s) are thinner and lighter than their counterparts.
• L Series: Mainstream, low-cost 14- and 15-inch notebooks with few special features.
• SL Series: Mainstream, low-cost notebooks such as the L Series, but targeted more at small businesses.
• W Series: Workstation-class performance in large 15- and 17-inch notebooks.
• Edge Series: Lenovo’s stylish ThinkPad line targeting small business users comes in 11- to 15-inch sizes. Edge series models beginning with “E” are new for 2011. Those ending in “s” have slimmer, more premium designs (e.g., ThinkPad Edge E220s).

Lenovo IdeaPads

Lenovo targets IdeaPads toward mainstream consumers, though the IdeaPad V series is also marketed at small business users. IdeaPads don’t have the same overriding design ID as ThinkPads, and you won’t find a TrackPoint between their G and H keys, but they do have some truly unique designs.

Lenovo IdeaPads are divided into five series, each of which is designated by a single letter at the beginning of the model name:

• Y Series: This multimedia and gaming-oriented series comes in 14- and 15-inch designs, including the Y460 and the Y560. Models ending in “d” have 3D screens and those ending in “p” are optimized for best performance.
• U Series: With an emphasis on portability, the U Series includes 11-, 12-, 13-, and 14-inch models. The unique U1 Hybrid is an 11.6-inch notebook with a screen that detaches and becomes a tablet.
• V Series: With the tagline of “engineered for small business, designed for fun,” these notebooks blur the line between consumer and small business systems by providing security features such as fingerprint readers while sporting a very un-Thinkpad-like aesthetic. Available in 14- and 15-inch sizes.
• Z Series: Solid mainstream notebooks, IdeaPad Z Series systems come in 13-, 14-, and 15-inch sizes.
• S Series: Lenovo’s netbook line includes 10- and 12-inch variants. Also includes the S10 tablet.

Lenovo “Essential” Line

The “Essential” line could also be known as the line with no name, because the “essential” moniker is omitted from the model names of these budget-oriented systems. Instead, these few-frills notebooks are named using series letters only. The two series letters are:

• G Series: Low-cost consumer notebooks in 14-, 15-, and 17-inch sizes.
• B Series: Budget business systems in 14- and 15-inch form factors.

General Tips:

• Screen Size: The first number in the model name represents the screen size (3 = 13-inch, 4 = 14-inch, etc.).
• Generation: The second number tells you the generation of notebook in this line, though Lenovo only began using its current naming system a few years ago. For example, the ThinkPad W520 is the third generation of W Series, following 2008’s W500 and 2010’s W510.

I need the machine type and serial number of my T440s. I can't find it at the bottom of the laptop. Is this normal? I remember that it was clearly visible on my old T420s.

Maggie Rogers moved out of her NYU apartment on May 31. On June 1, a video of Pharrell Williams listening to her song “Alaska” launched her career after going—shall we say—slightly viral. As nearly two million viewers know by now, the video was from Pharrell’s Masterclass at NYU’s Clive Davis Institute back in February, where he critiqued student work. The superstar was encouraging but constructive with every young musician—except Rogers. For her, Pharrell had only praise, a sense of awe quietly unfolding across his face as “Alaska” played. Occasionally, he glanced over at Rogers while she bobbed along to the beat, as if to confirm her existence.

“I’ve never heard anything that sounds like that. Out of this 30-minute workshop, “Alaska” had been snipped and ripped to YouTube by listeners (Rogers' part starts around the 18-minute mark), with many of these bootlegs garnering 50,000+ views each. The song and its accompanying moment were written about across the internet, including Slate, Jezebel, and Reddit, where it originally took off. Rogers hadn’t even heard of Reddit before all this. Hell, “Alaska” just happened to be the only song she had ready in time for the Masterclass. She wrote it in 15 minutes, and by the end of that day, had completed a version with her co-producer Doug Schadt, a 2014 graduate of Clive Davis Institute.

As new fans clamored to hear more from Rogers, her traditional folk albums written in high school—2014’s Blood Ballet and 2012’s The Echo—have gotten 300,000+ streams each on Bandcamp. She gained 100,000 Facebook followers in a matter of days without doing anything. Soon she solidified a relationship with Mick Management—home to Sharon Van Etten, Leon Bridges, and Real Estate, among others—to handle the influx of inquiries from labels.

Last week, Rogers self-released the mastered version of “Alaska,” and already it’s been played more than a million times on Spotify and SoundCloud each. It’s not hard to see why: “Alaska” is one of those songs where the beat is so palpable, the rhythm so ingrained in every fiber of the music, that the actual lyrics become secondary, so long as the flow is maintained through a stunning waterfall of Rogers’ folksy falsetto harmonizing with itself. The whole thing is so catchy while still maintaining a bit of mesmerizing intimacy (via samples Rogers recorded out in the wild), it seems poised to break out further, into the mainstream, as a curious hit as the summer unfolds.

Rogers has found an audience—or perhaps it’s the other way around. After all, she hadn’t turned to the internet looking for fame. It’s an unprecedented model for a viral hit, free of the thirst common in that arena. What started as the rapid sharing of Pharrell’s meme-worthy response turned into the embrace of an exquisite song.

She watched this all happen from her childhood bedroom at her parents’ home in rural Maryland, where she returned after graduation.

“I come from such a small place and I’ve always really thought that if you make good music, then people will find it,” she tells Pitchfork. “I know that’s a really naïve statement and that isn’t always the case, there is so much good music that doesn’t get heard, but it’s been really wild watching people find my old music. It kind of reaffirms my belief that if you make what you want to make, maybe somebody will find it, even if it takes four years.”

Those small-town roots and faith in the universe come through in “Alaska.” Lyrics about self-discovery in the midst of life transitions and a break-up feel optimistic instead of burdened. And rarely does electronic-based music feel this grounded in natural sounds. Rogers says much of her inspiration comes from the outdoors; “Alaska” is based on reflections from a solo hiking trip she took to the state the summer after her freshman year—right as she took a break from making her own music.

“I’ve gotten some really incredible messages about the way this song is making other people feel,” Rogers said. “It’s the story of a time in my life when I was really lost, and it in turn has provided so much clarity for me.”

It was during a study abroad term in France that she fell in love with electronic music and came to understand the ways rhythm and lyrics can best complement each other. It broke her out of her folk mode.

“When I got to NYU, I had applied based on playing folk music and they said ‘you’re the banjo girl,’ so I thought ‘OK, I’m the banjo girl,’” she says.

Now the fear is that she might be known as “the Pharrell girl.” She’s trying not to get too caught up in all that, though. “Ultimately, Pharrell is only one pair of ears,” Rogers says. “He could like something and my mom could hate it, and that’s two opinions. Music is about connecting with people on a personal level and doing that one set of ears at a time.”

For now, Rogers is enjoying her independence. She has an EP’s worth of songs ready to go and has plans to make a video for “Alaska” next month, but she isn’t in a hurry to sign with a label. Rogers wants to see what “Alaska” does on its own while she takes her long-planned post-graduation trip to Europe.

“I’m taking it a day at a time,” she says. “I’m excited to see what the world looks like when I get back in July, but it will probably pretty much look like me living in my childhood bedroom and my mom telling me to do the dishes.”

When I firstly heard “Bang Bang”, I was like out of words. I’ve never ever heard women speak sex so freely in pop music. I can’t deny how cool that is.

“Anaconda” was chosen as the second single from Nicki Minaj’s third studio album, The Pinkprint (2014). It was nominated for Best Rap Song at Grammy Awards and won the Best Hip-Hop Video at MTV Video Music Awards. The video for the song broke record on Vevo in its first day of release.

The song itself received two completely opposite reaction from critics. Some thought that it sticks to Minaj’s rap roots while others called it as degrading. So, what’s your opinion about this?

3. Nicki Minaj – Super Bass

“Boy you got my heartbeat running away
Beating like a drum and it’s coming your way

The catchy refrain “Boom, badoom, boom, boom, badoom, boom, bass, he got that super bass” linger in my head after I listening to the song “Super Bass”.

The song was the fifth single in Minaj’s debut studio album, Pink Friday (2010). It peaked at No.3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and it has sold 5 million copies in the United States.

Minaj explained the song like “‘Super Bass’ is about the boy that you are crushing over”, she said. “And you kind of want to get your mack on, but you’re taking the playful approach.” The emotion relationship between people is always subtle, and I can feel it in this pop-rap song.

4. Nicki Minaj – Only

“Raise your bottle and cup in the sky
Sparks in the air like the fourth of July
Nothing but bad bitches in here tonight
Oh, if you lame and you know it be quiet…”

“Only” is a song which released by Minaj after rumors being split. Apart from the nomination for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration at Grammy Awards, the song was certified triple platinum by RIAA.

This rapping with metaphors song features three rappers rapping a verse each and it’s about shutting down rumors between them. The explicit lyrics and a sort of hip-hop vibe make the song a story.

5. Nicki Minaj – No Frauds

“I don’t need no, frauds
I don’t need no, drama when you call
I don’t need no, fake
Soon as I wake up keep an eye out for the snakes, yeah”

Upon its release, “No Frauds” caught up wide attention and sold 78,861 copies during the first week which topped the R&B/Hip-Hop sales charts. It’s a response to Remy Ma who launched a diss track pointing to Minaj.

In this single Nicki Minaj aims directly at Remy Ma. The long-running feud between them has been reignited. Just like lyrics saying, “Cause I don’t need no fraud. I don’t need no drama when you call. I don’t need no lies. Pick a side, pick a side.” Which side will you pick?

6. Nicki Minaj – Starships

“Star ships were meant to fly
Hands up and touch the sky
Can’t stop cause we’re so high
Let’s do this one more time”

“Starships” are the lead single from Minaj’s second studio album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded (2012). This song achieved incredible success as it sit steadily on U.S. top 10 for 21 weeks. The video of the song won Best Female Video at MTV Video Music Awards.

As the song goes, it doesn’t feel like the Nicki Minaj thing. The song is so different from those traditional Minaj songs. It has feel-good vibe which contains almost no rapping. Anyway, I’m going to play it in rotation.

7. Nicki Minaj – Right by My Side

“I-I, I’m not living life
I’m not living right
I’m not living if you’re not by my side”

“Right by My Side” is from Nicki Minaj’s second studio album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded (2012). It features Chris Brown who is an R&B singer. The song peaked at NO.21 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and marked as NO.51 in the Billboard Hot 100.

The song is much more like an up-tempo ballad. Just as Minaj said, “Toward the end of the album I wanted something more melodic that I could give to urban radio and that pop radio could enjoy as well.” And then she did it.

8. Nicki Minaj – Feeling Myself

“Feeling Myself” was from Minaj’s third studio album, The Pinkprint (2014). It is Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé’s second collaboration and it was highly-anticipated among fans.

In the song, there’s tough Nicki and soft Beyoncé. “Nicki Minaj is the only woman who can get Beyoncé to do her bidding.” like Molly Beauchemin commented. The song has a beginning, middle and an end, just like a short play.

9. Nicki Minaj – High School

“They holler at me, but it’s you, you
This ain’t high school
Me and my crew, we can slide through
Give it to you whenever you want, whip it whenever you want”

“High School” features rapper Lil Wayne. It reached No.15 on the Billboard Hot Rap Songs. Nicki Minaj confirmed that the song is the sequel of a mixtape song called Hood Story.

This song is about some kinds of friends with benefits relationship. It’s still a typical Minaj song with Lil Wayne to help icing on the cake.

10. Nicki Minaj – Moment 4 Life

“I wish that I could have this moment for life, for life, for life
Cause in this moment I just feel so alive, alive, alive
I wish that I could have this moment for life, for life, for life
This is my moment I just feel so alive, alive, alive (yeah, yeah, yeah uh)”

The song which featuring Drake topped the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs charts. Also, it received nomination of Grammy Awards in the category Best Rap Performance, and it peaked at No.13 on the US Billboard Hot 100 as well.

You can simply guess what it is all about from the title of the song. Minaj explained it as “it is about 2 kids that grew up on the same block. They shared their dreams of making it as rappers.” I just can’t help turning up the volume when I bounce to the music rhythm.
