A Milwaukee County judge on Friday sentenced Benjamin Sebena to life in prison with the possibility of parole for shooting and killing his wife, a Wauwatosa police officer.

Sebena, 30, an Iraq war veteran, had pleaded guilty to firstdegree intentional Curtis Lofton Jersey White homicide for fatally shooting Jennifer L. Sebena while she was on patrol Christmas Eve. Though bound by a mandatory life sentence, Milwaukee County Circuit Judge David L. Borowski allowed Sebena to petition for supervised release after 35 years.

"You brought an act of war to Wauwatosa," Borowski told Sebena before announcing the sentence. "You took from this Earth the person who probably loved you more than Curtis Lofton Black Jersey anyone."

Borowski spoke for nearly an hour before revealing Sebena's fate, weighing the "gruesome" nature of the murder against the defendant's expressed remorse and extensive psychological trauma potentially distorting his conception of reality and leading him to commit a "twisted, twisted act." Sebena will be 65 when he will first have the option of petitioning for release from prison.

Sebena gunned his wife down as she was emerging from a break at the Wauwatosa Fire Department station on Underwood Ave. early on Christmas Eve, according to statements he made to investigators on Dec. 26. He said he had been stalking her for days, finally shooting her after lying in wait for hours while she was on patrol.

He shot her twice in the back of the head with a handgun he had taken from his father's house and then several times in the face with his wife's service weapon.

Sebena mounted an unsuccessful insanity plea in March. Doctors who examined him said the defendant did not suffer from a mental disease at the time of the murder, despite his documented posttraumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury.

The sentencing hearing drew nearly 40 Wauwatosa police officers to the packed courtroom on Friday.

Wauwatosa Police Chief Barry Weber said his department was pleased with the verdict. Despite testimony to the contrary, Weber said, he believed Sebena had targeted his wife because she was a police officer that he was jealous she was "making something of her life."

The defendant's mother, Linda Sebena, declined to comment after the sentencing. She read a statement in court detailing her son's psychological Authentic Curtis Lofton Jersey traumas, which she said include having killed more than 60 people in selfdefense during the war, among them a child with whom he had forged a close bond.

"A once smiling, joyful son has receded into the darkness of his mental wounds in war," she said.

Assistant District Attorney Mark Williams also asked the court to enable an appeal for parole, but not for 50 or 60 years.

"My baby is lying dead somewhere on the cold ground," she recalled thinking when three police officers told her of her daughter's death. "We will never get over the loss of Jen."

She said she forgives Sebena, whom she considered her "second son," and will "leave his future to God and to the court."

Borowski said the case was "one of the worst" he's ever seen and one of the worst to ever come to court in Milwaukee County.
