Ultimate Texans

Ultimate TexansThis is a good time to ask my annual question of Texans and Cowboys fans: Schaub or Romo? Romo or Schaub? wholesale nfl jerseys Although Matt Schaub and Tony Romo will be spectators during the last preseason game Thursday night in Arlington, the quarterbacks will get a lot of attention from television announcers and radio broadcasters from both sides. When deciding on which quarterback you like best, here's something to consider: If Schaub played for the Cowboys, would he be in position to win a playoff game for the second consecutive season? If Romo played for the Texans, would they have a better chance of winning a third consecutive AFC South title and perhaps a Super Bowl?Schaub (65, 235) has an advantage because he's been blessed with more talent than Romo in the offensive line and at running back, positions that are essential to a quarterback's success or failure. No matter whom they draft or what free agents they sign, the Cowboys always seem to have an offensive line that's mediocre at best. The early report on their firstround pick, center Travis Frederick, is good, but injuries have left them scrambling up front. That's not good for Romo (62, 236). It's also not good for Romo that he doesn't have a durable running back on whom he can count. DeMarco Murray is respectable when he's healthy, but he was limited to 663 yards and 4.1 per carry last season. Felix Jones, an injuryprone firstround bust, was shown the Valley Ranch gate.As the Cowboys prepare for the Texans, their running game is suspect. It looks as if Romo, 33, is going to have to throw and get hit a lot more than his coaches and teammates want. Last season, Romo threw 648 passes. That's 40.5 per game. That's preposterous. No wonder he throws so many interceptions.Romo was intercepted 19 times, many of which he forced. It's no surprise he thinks he has to do too much. His line comes unraveled, and he can't rely on a running back to stay on the field, so he tries to make plays that aren't there.Dallas fans complain about Romo, but he threw for 4,903 yards and 28 touchdowns compared to Schaub's 4,008 and 22. Schaub was intercepted 12 times. When you evaluate the Cowboys' line, you realize Romo's going to earn every cent of his $108 million extension, which amounts to hazard pay. wholesale jerseys Schaub's not going hungry with the fouryear, $62 million extension he signed last year when he threw 544 passes, or 34 per game. cheap jerseys Schaub, 32, is fortunate because he's got Pro Bowl players at wide receiver (Andre Johnson), running back (Arian Foster) and tight end (Owen Daniels) and in the offensive line (Duane Brown, Chris Myers, Wade Smith).Despite Smith's knee injury and the uncertainty surrounding right guard Brandon Brooks and right tackle Derek Newton, the Texans' offensive line is a strength, not a weakness. With Foster and Ben Tate, the Texans have one of the best backfields in the league, but they must stay healthy. And Schaub has a better defense than Romo. wholesale nfl jerseys It's not like you can feel sorry for Romo. He's the quarterback of America's Team. He's got $55 million guaranteed. But Romo can do only so much. At some point, president/general manager/head coach Jerry Jones must find a way to provide Romo better protection and a running game that can take pressure off the quarterback. Here's the way I look at it: If Troy Aikman was in this predicament, he wouldn't be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.If Romo had Aikman's offensive line, not to mention Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin, he'd be on his way to Canton.

Metal detector has made modern

Metal detector has made modern Cheap nfl jerseys Book on Roosevelt, Taft offers lessons, wild talesNational bestsellers list for Dec 29Frank Sinatra's former valet dies at 87Roberts thanks girlfriend following rare illnessCarly Rae Jepsen heads to Broadway next yearMontgomery restaurant closing after fatal shootingFifty six silver rings. Two gold ones. One gun. A toy car. More than 6,000 coins. A handful of bullets. One pocket watch.Michael Van Tassell, 29, lists off his loot in his Provo apartment on Wednesday evening. And that's just what he found in 2012.Van Tassell envisions himself as a modern day treasure hunter of sorts. He scours sites hour after hour. Suburban lawns, backyards, local parks. He knows he'll hit it big one day.Van Tassell received his first metal detector as a gift when he was 8 or 9. His first find was a good one."I swore I thought I found a treasure chest," he says. It turned out to be a large, engraved cast iron door to an old stove. That discovery set the ball rolling."It put the idea in my mind that at any given time, I can dig into the ground and find something super valuable. That excitement, about what the next item would be, the next target, is what keeps driving me."It wasn't until Van Tassell graduated from college and bought a nice metal detector that he began metal detecting in earnest. Working in software sales by day, Van Tassell detects at night, three or four times a week, for a couple hours each time. Van Tassell researches locations ahead of time and is often drawn to older houses. The yards of those houses, Van Tassell says, are more likely to hold older artifacts. He also looks for lawns that are not landscaped, because the soil of those lawns are least likely to have been disturbed over time. rolls around on Wednesday, Van Tassell leaves his Pleasant Grove office bound for a particular house in Provo that he has been eyeing for the past few weeks. It's an older house, from the early 1900s, and the green expanse of lawn opens invitingly in front of the porch.Van Tassell takes slow steps, walking in strategic lines up and down the lawn as one would when mowing the grass. He moves his five foot long detector methodically back and forth in front of him, lightly across the surface of the ground. The detector attaches to a grip on his wrist and has a small display screen that shows the conductivity of the metals he encounters. He wears a belt outfitted with pouches and pockets; trash goes into the first pouch, iron into the next and "all the good stuff" into the last. The belt also holds a trowel and a smaller detector, a hand held probe that he can use once he's down on his hands and knees. He wears large headphones, which are attached by a cord to the detector, and he hears a constant hum as he walks. Beeps sound as the detector moves over something metallic; different tones indicate different metals."You can go insane if you're an impatient person," Van Tassell says. But "I value hard work, and I'll put in the work and dedication."Metal detecting is calming to him, Van Tassell says. "It's good reflection time. It gives you a chance to think about life. It's relaxing to me like exercising or fishing might be" for somebody else. And then, all of a sudden, as the detector starts beeping, there's anticipation and excitement, Van Tassell says. He kneels down, with his probe in hand showing the exact location, and starts digging with his trowel. More often than not the find is a penny, but when it's something more, the effort is worthwhile. For Van Tassell, though, metal detecting is about more than just the search for treasure."I've always been fascinated by history," he says, and when he finds an object, "I'm imagining what happened in a location, how something came to rest there. It's almost like every item has a story." He continues, "you'll dig up a couple marbles, or a couple coins with jacks, and know that a kid was there playing. You feel tied to the history of the place and the item."Van Tassell does not sell what he finds. When he can, he tries to return the object to its owner. He once found a class ring from 1980 while metal detecting in Provo. He got a yearbook from the high school and cross referenced the initials on the ring with the high school's 1980 senior class. Its owner was in Las Vegas and got the ring back. What Van Tassell can't return, he keeps, and he says the growing collection of artifacts is significant because "it reflects my passion." It's "a good thing," though, that "my girlfriend doesn't think I'm a hoarder." wholesale jerseys china

Rainford said from 2007 through 2011, the Rams compiled the worst five year record in NFL history, including a one win season in 2009 and two win seasons in 2008 and 2011.
