More Car Updates

Okay, The Mercedes is all taken care of for the next year. I drove it to get MOT-ed this morning, and picked it up this afternoon. It passed the MOT without needing anymore done, though they did say the tires are going bad and the brakes are a little corroded , but they both passed. May~be before we sell it, we could get that stuff taken care of so we can sell it for a little more.

After I picked it up in the afternoon, I walked downtown to go pay the car tax at the post office.I got the new disc while I was there and now both cars are taxed though next year!

The truck still needs to be MOT-ed by the end of the month though.

I need to keep on practicing driving though, maybe I should drive to and from work tomorrow.

Audio Tips to Help You Quit Sucking at Life.

These tips will be useful for everyone:

-Just because you can turn up the bass on your stereo loud enough to drown out all other frequencies doesn't mean you should.
-If you don't know how to use EQ, just leave it flat. It sounds better than the ass you are probably going to dial up.
-If being in the same room as your stereo causes my ears to ring, use your brain for once and turn it down.

These tips will be useful for professional types:

-In the studio, don't record a brick off sound. Making everything as loud as possible sounds like pure ass.
-For the man behind the sound board at a concert, most people would like to be able to hear each instrument. Please help make this a possibility.
-Don't deafen me if I am at your show. Please!
-If you are DJ-ing someplace I am at, please turn your shitty music down low enough to at least allow me to have a conversation.

All of these "tips" are related to recent experiences I've had with people trying to piss me off by not knowing how to play music correctly. Well, the live music complaints are kind of old but so few engineers know what they are doing in live settings its not even funny.

Car Updates

I can't get an appointment for the Mercedes to be MOT-ed until Tuesday, so the tax disc is going to run out. After doing a little research, I've found out that isn't too much of a problem. The British version of the DMV gives you a 2 week grace period to get the car taxed. Of course the only place you are allowed to drive the car to during those 2 weeks is to the garage and back.
Anyway, in related news I have been practicing driving the Mercedes. Its a lot easier to drive a manual transmission than I remember it being.

On Tuesday, I drove a loop around Saltergate Dr.

On Wednesday, I drove a loop around Jennyfield. I headed down to the round about at the end of Saltergate, drove all the way down to Ripon Road, turned left at the stoplight, turned left at the roundabout on to the A59, and the went back home taking Crowberry Drive.

Today I drove to and from work.

Tomorrow I will probably drive to work and then leave the car on base until time to take it to get MOT-ed on Tuesday.

頑張っています。

GRRR!

So the tax discs on both the Nissan and the Mercedes are due at the end of May. Yesterday I go and try to pay at the car office on base like I have the last 2 years. After sitting around for 30 minutes or more they tell me to go pay at my local post office. Of course once I get home I don't have time to get to find all the documents I need AND get to the post office, so I put the second part off until today.

I leave work early today so I can get to the post office on time. My first mistake was to assume when she said "my local post office" she meant any post office. So I put my Crocs on and walk to the co-op and they have a sign on the window saying they can't handle Car tax. Next I figure, I'll go to the one on Cold Bath Road to avoid going into the center of town on a weekday. They can't handle it either, so I end up going to the post office downtown anyway. There I make my second mistake. I assumed I can pay with a credit card. Of course I can't though! Only ATM (with that stupid freakin' chip in it) or Check or Cash. So while the lady is already ringing up the tax disc for one year on the Nissan, I go and withdraw as much money as I can from the ATM. I am able to get enough to pay for the Nissan but am £20 short to pay for the Mercedes. I have a second ATM card with Community Bank but of course that is COMPLETELY useless anywhere except on Base.

Anyway, long story short, I need to try to go back and pay for the Mercedes tomorrow, except that the MOT for the Mercedes expires tomorrow so I am not sure if I can still do the tax disc with an MOT that is expiring the same day. I need to just get the stupid car MOT-ed but I suck at driving standard transmission cars. So if they don't let me pay for the disc tomorrow, I need to bug someone to help me get the car to a garage. I would go to Evan but his dumbass has to be in a class right now. I guess I'll have to bug Sean, see if I can get the car MOT-ed by Saturday and then pay for the tax disc also by Saturday since the post office will be closed on Monday for some silly little bank holiday.

What a pain...

new headphones

Last week my headphones finally died. For about a month they had been acting funny. One or the other ear would stop working. Finally last Thursday though the right ear stopped altogether and the only way I could get it to work is if I held the cord connecting it and the left one at a funny angle. I couldn't take it so I just threw them away.

残念 because I really liked those headphones. They were ちょっと uncomfortable if you wore them for long periods of time, but they were pretty nice sounding and the way they folded up was convenient.

While I was at Lakenheath, (after getting Taco Bell of course) I bought a new pair. They are the little earbud type everyone else uses. The cord is a bit thick but they sound really good. The only problem is you have to shove them in your ear just right to make them sound good. If they are off by even a little bit, they start losing the bass frequencies. Of course they move around a lot while walking or running and you end up messing with them a lot if you want them to sound good. Its quite a pain in the ass to be honest.

Oh well, I bought them, I better use them for a while.

At least they are green!

Alconbury / Lakenheath

I went to Alconbury and Lakenheath yesterday with Sean and this chick named Dawn that he is going out with.

First we went down the M1 instead of the A1 and we ended up way to the west of Alconbury, which is right next to Cambridge. It took us a while to figure out where we were and then get back to the right place.

Of course all of that could have been prevented if his GPS (and his iPod) hadn't been stolen a few weeks ago.

Once we got there, I bought various uniform stuff I was missing from my Class A Jacket. They had Metallica's Death Magnetic on sale for 7 dollars so I went ahead and picked it up. I have been curious to hear it for a long while now, and its actually pretty good.

Once we were finished, we headed down to Lakenheath, which is a little bit further south. The main reason we went was to get Taco Bell, since (I think) that is the only one on the whole Island. Also while we were there, Sean was able to buy a replacement for his GPS.

We had left at 9:30-ish in the morning and by the time we got home, it was already after 7pm. Long Day.

You know, a week of class should be enough to get me over jet lag, but here I sit at 5:00 and I've been wide awake for 30 minutes. What the crap?

Tonight I am attacking my body with caffeine hard enough to at least keep me awake until 10:00! This is pathetic.

Gackt - Miyazaki + DVD

I've been meaning to write about this concert for a while now.

Anyway, Miki and I went down to Miyazaki for another Gackt concert shortly before we returned to England. The first thing we noticed was how laid back things in Miyazaki were compared to Fukuoka. Everyone was just kind of standing about unorganized like, where as the people in Fukuoka immediately formed a line in front of Sun Palace. Also many more people were in causal clothing instead of dressing up all nice and stuff. Thats cool! Considering how small the city is, there was a ridiculous number of white people there. The age range of the fans was even more extreme than in Fukuoka. The youngest person in attendance was a newborn and the oldest person could be a Grandmother. A lot of older people came with their children and it looked like both mother and son or daughter were fans in all cases.

The show itself was the exact same set list. No shock there, it was what I expected. The new songs all still sounded badass and in Fukuoka we thought that Gackt might have been lip syncing some of the time, just because the vocals were too perfect. But with better seats in Miyazaki, Miki is fairly certain he was not lip syncing at all. I wasn't really paying close enough attention to his lips to make a call.

Afterwards we met up briefly with a few friends of a friend and hung out and took pictures. One of them was a dude that was doing his best (a very good job at that) of looking and acting like Gackt. We were all getting our picture taken together just because, and a huge ring of people formed around us. Turns out they too wanted to get their pictures taken with the Gackt look alike. He was a good sport about it and let them all. We then made our way outside, said our goodbyes and called it a night.

One other thing that was different was the cd and dvd selling booth they had set up, in addition to the tour merch booths. We ended up buying the Diabolos tour dvd.

It is a impressively 2 dvd set, with a set list made up predominately with songs from Crescent and Diabolos. It also features Gackt riding a horse though the Tokyo Dome as part of the introduction. Much like the shows we went to, it features an intro movie and two other movie segments. With the earlier portion of the show being more serious than the middle part. The dvd tour though, features tons of back up dancers, where as the tour we went to had only a few.

Anyway, the dvd concert performance is really impressive, however I think the tour we went to was better.
