A Senior Bowl safety for Vikings fans to watch

It's hard to get excited about the quarterbacks in Saturday's Senior Bowl. None of the six in the game is projected to be drafted higher than the second round, although you never know with Jake Locker, the Washington QB who could sneak into the first round if scouts determine he's skilled enough to overcome a senior season that clobbered his draft stock.

I'll be watching Locker. But I'll also be looking at the defensive backs. The Vikings are desperately undermanned in the secondary. They need two new starters at safety, more depth at cornerback and possibly even another starter at corner.

One safety who has stood out this week in Alabama is Oklahoma's Quinton Carter. He looks the part at 61, 211 and figures to be a free safety in the NFL. With a good Senior Bowl, Carter is projected as a secondround pick.

If the Vikings take a quarterback in the first round, their secondrounder should be spent on a defensive back or an offensive lineman, I think. If Carter can be a playmaker at safety, he'd certainly fill a hole in the second round.

According to those who know a lot more about the draft than I do, there are a couple of really good safeties, but the depth overall is pretty weak this year.

I think we'll be blessed with another entertaining Super Bowl next week. A year ago, the Saints upset the Colts. The year before that, Santonio Holmes made that great touchdown catch of an even greater throw from Ben Roethlisberger to beat the Cardinals in an exciting finish. The Giants upset the 180 Patriots the year before that. Who can forget David Tyree making that catch by pinning the ball to the top of his helmet as he was falling? The only thing as good as that individual effort was Eli Manning escaping the pass rush to make the throw.

Remember when the gripe every year was how boring the Super Bowl was? Well, that just hasn't been the case for some time now.

Of all the great Super Bowls we've had, which play is your favorite? There are a lot to choose from, but I'd have to go with Steelers' linebacker Julian Edelman Authentic Jersey James Harrison's 100yard interception return for a touchdown as time expired in the first half of Super Bowl XLIII.

It was great for so many reasons. The Cardinals were about to score a touchdown right before the half, but Harrison made the pick. Then the return might have been the best return in league history. James just kept running and dodging Cardinals.

By the time he was inside the Cardinals' 10yard line, the clock had run out. Two Cardinals, including Larry Fitzgerald were close to pushing him out of bounds at the 1, which would have ended the half. But James somehow tumbled into the right corner of the end zone.

Best play I ever saw in a Super Bowl. And there have been many great ones. Best drive was Joe Montana's to beat the Bengals in the closing seconds of Super Bowl XXII.

Speaking of those Senior Bowl quarterbacks, are there any you like, and would you take a guy in the third round thinking he is going to be your franchise QB? The Browns did that with Colt McCoy last year, and they might end up being right.

There's Colin Kaepernick of Nevada. He's projected for the second round.

Projected thirdrounders in the game are Andy Dalton of TCU, Locker and Florida State's Christian Ponder. Iowa's ricky Stanzi is looking like a fourth or fifthrounder. And then there's Alabama's Greg McElroy, a sixth or seventhrounder.

The one QB I have the strongest feelings on is McElroy. And from what I hear, I wouldn't want to draft him. From all accounts I've seen, he just doesn't have the arm strength to be effective in the NFL. The way the game is played now, a QB needs superior arm strength to compete against modern defenses.

So agent Drew Rosenhaus predicts client www.patriotsfootballproshop.com/11_julian_edelman_jersey_authentic_black_limited_cheap.html Plaxico Burress will pull a Vick and leave prison and rejoin the NFL. Burress, the former Giants receiver who ended up in jail on weapons charges after accidently shooting himself in the leg at a New York nightclub, hopes to pick up where he left off, but it probably won't come in New York.

Burress is 33, and it could take him a year to get his legs back under him. Is he worth taking www.patriotsfootballproshop.com a risk on if the Vikings lose Sidney Rice to free agency?

I probably wouldn't take a chance on him, but the dude sure could play before he ended up in jail. He's due to be released this spring after spending 20 months in jail. Commenters must follow our Terms of Use.

A little more on McCarthy

Green Bay One more note about last week conversation with Packers coach Mike McCarthy. He talked a lot about the strength of his partnership with Packers general manager Ted Thompson as being a key to their overall success in Green Bay:

always go back to the interview process when Ted was looking for a partner to build a program. We talked about having a base philosophy of drafting and developing and we have accomplished that. I think all of the things have happened because of the way that we built it. The quality of people we have throughout the personnel department, the coaching department, our support staff, is incredible. A lot of them have been here over 20 years and I think our equipment staff has more than 100 years of experience.

so many www.patriotsfootballproshop.com/51_jerod_mayo_jersey_authentic_black_limited_cheap.html positive things and just to pull that all together really admire Ted. He does his job. He Jerod Mayo Elite Jersey on the road right now, working on the college draft. He a great example of what we built here. When there a job to do, if everybody just stays focused on their job, tried to eliminate the extra stuff that can bog you down, we all be successful. He a strong Christian. He just very consistent. He very easy to www.patriotsfootballproshop.com work with. He a lot easier to talk with today than he was seven years ago but I sure that part of our relationship growing. also mentioned the uniqueness of being a head coach in a smalltomedium sized city like Green Bay.

Bay is a remarkable community to live in. People don realize unless you had the opportunity to work in another NFL city, just the fact that you're seven minutes from home, it is still small town America. Which I love. It the Midwest. The priorities of family and community are very strong here. I like to think I the same person. That something my dad has always told me, too; don forget where you came from. I am in tune with that. My wife and my children keep me grounded so I have no desire to change. I am very blessed here and that part of the reason why Jessica and I try to give back as much as we can. interesting note by DE Mike Daniels: he believes McCarthy doesn allow the extreme hazing of rookies. Rookies may have to carry luggage or pick up a restaurant tab now and then, but not a whole lot of hazing that goes on around here. He more worried about winning football games than hey, how can we pick on the rookies. You don see guys getting thrown in to a plunge pool or paying for $40,000 meals. I think if somebody did something pretty low to a rookie they be in deep trouble with him, said Daniels.

biggest thing is he cares about his guys, said receiver Randall Cobb. lot of people say he a player coach but I think it just that he cares about his guys. Sometimes you see coaches who don even acknowledge some players; he acknowledges everyone in here. for McCarthy tenure, which is one of the longest in the NFL right now, here a quick little list of the most recent coaches in the NFL:

Patriots Bill Belichick, coach since 2000

Jets Rex Ryan 2009; Eric Mangini 20062008

Bills Chan Gailey 2010; Perry Fewell, Dick Jauron 200609

Dolphins Joe Philbin 2012; Todd Bowles; Tony Sparano Cam Cameron; Nick Saban John Harbaugh 2008; Brian Billick until Mike Tomlin 2007; Bill Cowher 199206

Anderson Silva loses middleweight title to Chris

LAS VEGAS, Nev. Chris Weidman sent a shock wave through mixed martial arts, stopping Anderson Silva in the second round of the main event at UFC 162 to become the new middleweight champion on Saturday night.

Silva talked, taunted and dared Weidman to engage him. When the champion lowered his hands early in the second round, Weidman caught him with a short left that sent the MMA star to the mat. Weidman pounced and landed a few more shots that forced referee Herb Dean to stop the fight at 1:18.

"(Silva) was an idol of mine. I didn't want to mention it in the camp," said Weidman (100), who earned knockout of the night award. "I looked up to him for many years."

In the comain event in front of a capacity crowd at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas, former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar outwrestled and outstruck Charles Oliveira to get the win by unanimous decision.

Fighting in his first nontitle fight in more than 3 1/2 years, Edgar looked sharp and utilized excellent footwork to avoid Oliveira. The first two rounds were close, but the third saw Edgar land www.patriotsfootballproshop.com/34_shane_vereen_jersey_authentic_black_limited_cheap.html a number of clean power punches and pull away for the win.

"I thought I had him hurt in the third, but he showed some toughness," said Edgar, who improved to 1541 and placed himself in title contention with the win. Oliveira fell to Shane Vereen Limited Jersey 164.

On the main card, Mark Munoz and Tim Kennedy each earned unanimous decision victories and Cub Swanson bested Dennis Siver in a battle of highly ranked featherweights with a third round TKO.

Andra Fuller

Complex has become mustsee Monday night television ever since the Canadian series made its stateside debut. One obvious reason: The ample servings of beefcake and the scorching samesex love scenes featuring actor Andra Fuller.

The Torontobased series has also attracted a cult following among Black gay and bisexual men because of its delicious narrative and characters. Black Enterprise chats up Andra Fuller who portrays the "volatile gangsta rapper Kaldrick King. who also happens to be gay [and] closeted. . Fuller had no trepidations about taking the part, but those around him were leery about his www.patriotsfootballproshop.com/70_logan_mankins_jersey_authentic_black_limited_cheap.html decision."

"When I accepted this role and what it entailed, my family and friends were like, 'Why do you want to play a gay dude?' They also wanted to know why every time a Black man is shown on TV as gay; he has to be on the down low. But they didn't look at the ramification: I'm playing a very successful down low rapper on a network television show. That's never happened before."

Fuller's impeccable performance is buoyed by sharp writing [and] navigates it all from suicide attempts to intense love scenes with incredible ease. "As an actor, you don't run away from a role because it doesn't coexist with your personal lifestyle," he explains. "If I take a role as a mass murderer, I don't think I would ever have the gall to kill someone in my real life. But I'm not going to run away from it because I don't believe in murder."

Very refreshing to hear a Black actor embrace a multidimensional gay character with such intensity . and will not shy away from the sexual component. .

Television depictions of the LGBT community remain overwhelmingly white, according to a recent report by GLAAD. Complex and America's Next Top Model.

"The gay and lesbian community has been supersupportive and appreciative of what I've been putting into Kaldrick," Fuller told Black Enterprise.

"It's definitely an honor to be chosen to play this character in this

storyline. Complex will air tonight and Mondays at 8P through October 1. Very much looking forward to tonight's episode after last week's scorcher with the legal fierceness. Kaldrick has met his match. Yasss.

Watch a video clip from last week's hotness AFTER THE JUMP . Complex is a new Canadian television miniseries that follows a number of residents of a Los Angeles apartment complex that are trying to break into the entertainment industry. Two of the main characters are Black men. And very surprisingly both were introduced as gay/"down low" in the second episode.

Hiphop producer Tariq (Benjamin Charles Watson) is seen kissing his gangsta rapper client King (Andra Fuller). The scene has caused a huge buzz in Canada, where it may be the first time a "DL" relationship and kiss was seen on television. Watson talks about the scene and the role with Canada's Huffington Post.

What was it like filming that scene?

It was nervewracking because Andra and I knew it was coming, and it was one of the last scenes of the day. Plus there are so many people around us! We had two choices we could run away and hide or jump right in and fulfill the needs of these characters. So we jumped right in!

Offhand, I can't even think of an openly gay man in the rap or hiphop worlds, so in that sense your characters are pretty groundbreaking.

It's controversial and it's amazing at the same time. There have already been a lot of comments on the 'net, and a lot of people are already turned off by it because it's Logan Mankins Elite Jersey not done in the hiphop world by two black guys. It's just not done. I feel a lot of pressure good pressure and bad pressure. It's a story that has to be told and has to be told right. I can't think about the negative part, I just have to fulfill the story of Tariq.

Watson says the DL storyline will continue throughout the series. "We're not the type of show that's going to be like, 'Cool, we're going to tell the hiphop world that it's time to come out!' and all of that stuff. It's going to be true to life, so it has to be a relationship on the DL."
