A walkon defensive lineman from Millsboro

MILFORD When Delaware's football players first heard they were scrimmaging in Milford, Travis Tirrell might have been the only one who actually knew where they were going.

A walkon defensive lineman from Millsboro, the Delmarva Christian High grad is no stranger to downstate Delaware.

"I've never heard of a big college coming down and putting on a show for lower Delaware," he said. "A lot of times we get forgotten down here. It's nice that we can come down here and give back to the community.

"It's refreshing to come Nike Air Jordan 12 down here, honestly," Tirrell added. "It's nice to get out of the city and just see the trees and fields."

For the several hundred fans who came out to Milford High's Briggs Stadium on Saturday for the firsttime event, it was a chance to not only see the Blue Hens downstate but to meet new coach Dave Brock.

Brock and his almostentirely new staff walked through the parking lot before the scrimmage, shaking hands with tailgaters. He then huddled up with the SmyrnaClayton Pop Warner Eagles on the field.

The Eagles got to run some plays against Delaware's defense, which somehow managed to miss every tackle as a pair of SmyrnaClayton players ran for touchdowns.

"That was very cool," said Jason Fretz, one of SmyrnaClayton's coaches. "The kids enjoyed it. They were very excited about it. It was a great experience them coming downstate here."

It wasn't all about the new, though. Hall of Fame coach Tubby Raymond brought his grandson while longtime supporter Ruly Carpenter Nike Air Jordan 28 XX8 was on hand.

A number of former Delaware players who live in the area also came out. School president Patrick Harker made the trip south, as well.

"It just shows you the support the program has," said Brock. "The opportunity to come down here in front of all these folks was terriffic. I'm really, really excited we did it.

"I've been all over the state and I've talked to a lot of people. My impression is that people love Delaware football and they're passionate about Delaware football. This was more an opportunity to show the folks down here that, hey, we really appreciate the fact that they do it drive up there seven times a year just for football."

As for the football itself, the Hens looked like like a team that was in its eighth spring practice session under a new coaching staff. It doesn't help that Delaware currently has about 15 players sidelined for various medical issues.

At times, the gusty wind played havoc with passes thrown by quarterbacks Trevor Sasek and Justin Burns. A number Nike Air Jordan 6 of balls went through receivers' hands, though.

"We had some guys make some plays, which is encouraging," said Brock. "We dropped too many passes, we missed some tackles. We're nowhere near as physical a football team as we're going to be. . But I was pleased with the effort, the energy."

One thing that was clear, even just watching drills, is that the Hens are going to hustle on the field. They ran hard from one station to the next.

The players learned quickly that that's the way their new coaches want it.

"It was demanded that we do it before but not at such a high tempo," said senior Rob Jones. "The pace is a lot more picked up. We're just getting used to the pace. Pretty soon we're all going to be track stars."

A fifthyear senior, Jones is still a Blue Hen because he missed most of last season with a leg injury.

"It feels great to be back out here with my brothers," he said. "Everybody's trying to get acquainted with the new coaches, the new playbook."

Middle linebacker Eric Patton was another Delaware player just happy to be back in a helmet and shoulder pads. The former St. Elizabeth High star, who was the state Defensive Player of the Year two years ago, sat out last fall.

"I missed hitting people the most," Patton said with a smile. "It seems like it took forever for me to start playing again. I really love being back. The first running practice, I was dying. But I got back to it."

"Eric is a work in progress," said Brock, using one of his favorite phrases right now. "It's his eighth practice, period. He's got as much experience with Delaware football as I do. And he's a freshman to boot.

"Am I excited about him? Sure. But time will tell on him. He's got a lot of work to do. . But he's working at it. All I can ask is that he shows up every day, does what he's supposed to do and competes."

Three Delaware offensive players have been moved to cornerback. That group includes, Jordan Thomas, a Rutgers transfer, Simba Gwashavanhu and Mark Doe. "We're not going to have our 26thbest player be the fifth wideout," said Brock. "We're not to going to have our 23rdbest player be the fifth corner. We're going to find a way to get guys on the field, whether it's on offense or defense." . The Hens are looking for a new punter after the graduation of twoyear starter Rauley Zaragoza. Redshirt freshman Eric Enderson handled the job with mixed results on Saturday. . on May 4 in Delaware Stadium.

You are encouraged to leave relevant comments but engaging in personal attacks, threats, online bullying or commercial spam will not be allowed.
Holly Johnson say ditching the extra cushioning

Some runners go completely barefoot, others, wear socalled 'minimalist' shoes. Dengate explains, Nike Air Jordan 5 "Nothing more than a layer for abrasion resistance and something to hold it onto your foot."

Orthopedic surgeons like Dr. A. Holly Johnson say ditching the extra cushioning causes most runners to switch up their step. "Typically, the barefoot runner lands with the front of the foot or the middle of the foot hitting the ground first."

So if you'd like to kick off your shoes, don't hit the ground running. Ease into the style slowly. Preston started with a walk around the neighborhood, and hasn't looked back! "You feel like Nike Air Mags you're completely whole with your body and everything's moving perfectly!"

Today, you can even find barefoot running clinics and specialists. It's important to do your homework though, because there are no certification Nike Air Jordan 13 requirements.

The woman came in first

The woman came in first, with the man she called Benjamin at her heels, and set the candle on the mantel-piece. Trottle takes leave to describe her as an offensively-cheerful old woman, awfully lean and wiry, and sharp all over, at eyes, nose, and chin — devilishly brisk, smiling, and restless, with a dirty false front and a dirty black cap, and short fidgetty arms, and long hooked finger-nails — an unnaturally lusty old woman, who walked with a spring in her wicked old feet, and spoke with a smirk on her wicked old face — the sort of old woman (as Trottle thinks) who ought to have lived in the dark ages, and been ducked in a horse-pond, instead of flourishing in the nineteenth century, and taking charge of a Christian house.

“You’ll please to excuse my son, Benjamin, won’t you, sir?” says this witch without a broomstick, pointing to the man behind her, propped against the bare wall of the dining-room, exactly as he had been propped against the bare wall of the passage. “He’s got his inside dreadful bad again, has my son Benjamin. And he won’t go to bed, and he will follow me about the house, up-stairs and downstairs, and in my lady’s chamber, as the song says, you know. It’s his indisgestion, poor dear, that sours his temper and makes him so agravating — and indisgestion is a wearing thing to the best of us, ain’t it, sir?”

“Ain’t it, sir?” chimes in agravating Benjamin, winking at the candle-light like an owl at the sunshine.

His eyes looked straight into mine

He hesitated. “To a long life,” said he, with a sudden bark of laughter, and with eyes fixed on one another we tilted the little glasses. His eyes looked straight into mine, and as I drained the stuff off, I felt a curiously intense sensation. The first touch of it set my brain in a furious tumult; I seemed to feel an actual physical stirring in my skull, and a seething humming filled my ears. I did not notice the flavour in my mouth, the aroma that filled my throat; I saw only the grey intensity of his gaze that burnt into mine. The draught, the mental confusion, the noise and stirring in my head, seemed to last an interminable time. Curious vague impressions of half-forgotten things danced and vanished on the edge of my consciousness. At last he broke the spell. With a sudden explosive sigh he put down his glass.

“Well?” he said.

“It’s glorious,” said I, though I had not tasted the stuff.

My head was spinning. I sat down. My brain was chaos. Then my perception grew clear and minute as though I saw things in a concave mirror. His manner seemed to have changed into something nervous and hasty. He pulled out his watch and grimaced at it. “Eleven-seven! And to-night I must — Seven-twenty-five. Waterloo! I must go at once.” He called for the bill, and struggled with his coat. Officious waiters came to our assistance. In another moment I was wishing him good-bye, over the apron of a cab, and still with an absurd feeling of minute distinctness, as though — how can I express it?— I not only saw but felt through an inverted opera-glass.

“That stuff,” he said. He put his hand to his forehead. “I ought not to have given it to you. It will make your head split tomorrow. Wait a minute. Here.” He handed me out a little flat thing like a seidlitz-powder. “Take that in water as you are going to bed. The other thing was a drug. Not till you’re ready to go to bed, mind. It will clear your head. That’s all. One more shake — Futurus!”

I gripped his shrivelled claw. “Good-bye,” he said, and by the droop of his eyelids I judged he too was a little under the influence of that brain-twisting cordial.

His head rolled helplessly in the monstrous big

Trottle examined the man curiously, while his horrid old mother was speaking of him. He found “My son Benjamin” to be little and lean, and buttoned-up slovenly in a frowsy old great-coat that fell down to his ragged carpet-slippers. His eyes were very watery, his cheeks very pale, and his lips very red. His breathing was so uncommonly loud, that it sounded almost like a snore. His head rolled helplessly in the monstrous big collar of his great-coat; and his limp, lazy hands pottered about the wall on either side of him, as if they were groping for a imaginary bottle. In plain English, the complaint of “My son Benjamin” was drunkenness, of the stupid, pig-headed, sottish kind. Drawing this conclusion easily enough, after a moment’s observation of the man, Trottle found himself, nevertheless, keeping his eyes fixed much longer than was necessary on the ugly drunken face rolling about in the monstrous big coat collar, and looking at it with a curiosity that he could hardly account for at first. Was there something familiar to him in the man’s features? He turned away from them for an instant, and then turned back to him again. After that second look, the notion forced itself into his mind, that he had certainly seen a face somewhere, of which that sot’s face appeared like a kind of slovenly copy. “Where?” thinks he to himself, “where did I last see the man whom this agravating Benjamin, here, so very strongly reminds me of?”

It was no time, just then — with the cheerful old woman’s eye searching him all over, and the cheerful old woman’s tongue talking at him, nineteen to the dozen — for Trottle to be ransacking his memory for small matters that had got into wrong corners of it. He put by in his mind that very curious circumstance respecting Benjamin’s face, to be taken up again when a fit opportunity offered itself; and kept his wits about him in prime order for present necessities.
