LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Louis Lombardi is getting mobbed up for TNT.

Lombardi, who played agent Edgar Stiles on "24," has signed on for a recurring role on "Lost Angels," the upcoming TNT crime drama from former "The Walking Dead" showrunner Frank Darabont.

Lombardi will play Stucky, a henchman for mob boss Mickey Cohen.

Based on the John Buntin book "L.A. Noir: The Struggle for the Soul of America's Most Seductive City," "Lost Angels" will chronicle the decades-long feud between the LAPD, led by then-Chief William Parker, and Cohen's West Coast gang.

The cast of the drama, previously titled "L.A. Noir," also includes Jon Bernthal, Milo Ventimiglia, Thomas Jane, Simon Pegg and Edward Burns as gangster Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel.

Lombardi's career includes stints on "The Sopranos," "NYPD Blue" and "Entourage." He'll also appear in the upcoming crime thriller "Runner Runner," which stars Ben Affleck, Justin Timberlake and Gemma Arterton.

Hollywood Reporter first reported news of Lombardi's casting.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Huawei Technologies, Nokia Corp and ZTE Corp did not violate cell phone patents owned by InterDigital Inc, a judge at the International Trade Commission said in a preliminary decision on Friday.

The ITC's final decision in the case is expected to be issued in October.

InterDigital, which buys and licenses patents, had accused the companies of violating seven patents used to make 3G wireless devices. The patents cover conservation of power and ensuring the right data goes to the right recipient, among other technology.

LG Electronics had been named in the original complaint but settled with InterDigital.

InterDigital asked the ITC to ban the U.S. sale of the three companies' 3G wireless mobile devices. While much of the world is moving to 4G, 3G remains broadly in use.

The ITC, a quasi-judicial federal agency, is a popular venue for patent fights because its docket moves fairly quickly and it can order a sales ban for any device which infringes a patent.

HAY-ON-WYE, Wales (Reuters) - Europe has an extraordinary opportunity to re-introduce wolves, bison and beavers and allow its citizens to reconnect with their wild side, an environmentalist and author said.

George Monbiot told an audience at the Hay Festival of literature on the weekend that some 30 million hectares - an area the size of Poland - were expected to be taken out of agricultural use between 2000 and 2030 as farmers chose not to stay on unproductive land.

This was a unique opportunity for "re-wilding" and the restoration of species, including large predators, that have all but disappeared from much of the continent.

Bringing back wolves, for example, to some of Europe's least productive agricultural areas would increase biodiversity and increase economic opportunities, Monbiot said, whose latest book "Feral" was published last week.

Re-wilding the landscape was also "an opportunity to re-wild ourselves" and "to fill the world with wonders of which we have been deprived and alongside which we evolved," he said.

Monbiot said the re-introduction of two packs of wolves into the Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming had led to a greater diversity of ecosystems, allowing more species to flourish.

By reducing the local deer population, the trees on which they feed had grown, encouraging more migratory birds.

He attacked the system of agricultural subsidies in Europe, which rewarded some farmers for keeping grassland cropped even when it was not in use. This had seen areas of woodland in parts of Europe cut down.

Monbiot, who has caused controversy in Wales, where he lives, by saying sheep-farming is bad for the landscape and bad for employment, called for such subsidies to be capped to cover only limited areas.

He described nature conservation in Britain as "utterly perverse" in that it required many protected areas to be kept unchanged even if they were much depleted of wildlife that could flourish there. Re-wilding was an opportunity to reverse that process.

"We are beginning to see that the story we have told ourselves about the inevitable degradation and destruction of the natural world doesn't have to end that way," he said.

After more than 20 hours of deliberations, the jury voted 6 to 2 in the High Court to convict Peter Chan, formerly known as Tony Chan, on a charge of forgery. Chan had pleaded not guilty to a number of charges, including forgery and using a forged document.

The proceedings had transfixed Hong Kong with revelations of adultery and bizarre rituals associated with "feng shui", a Chinese philosophy meaning "wind-water", aimed at creating harmonious surroundings and harnessing natural energies.

Wang, known as "Little Sweetie", was one of Asia's wealthiest women, with a business empire including the Chinachem Group, Hong Kong's largest private property developer. She died of cancer in 2007, aged 69.

The verdict is the latest setback for the married Chan, who in March was ordered to pay HK$340 million ($43.8 million) in tax arrears, and has been hit by the lengthy and costly legal battle for Wang's estate that he lost in 2011.

Chan changed his name from Tony after that ruling and converted to Christianity this year.

After Thursday's verdict, Chan appeared flushed and lowered his head in the witness box, but showed no outward emotion.

"Without the lawsuits, I would not have gone to church and would not have experienced God," Chan told the South China Morning Post in an earlier interview. "I have no regrets."

In 2011, the High Court upheld a previous judgment that a 2006 will leaving Wang's entire $4 billion estate, one of Asia's largest fortunes, to her former lover and feng shui master was a forgery. Instead, it upheld an earlier will bequeathing her fortune to a charitable foundation.

The jury had earlier been asked by Justice Andrew Macrae to put aside personal feelings in making their judgment, the South China Morning Post reported, amid extensive media coverage.

The judge is expected to issue a sentence on Friday morning.

The Disney Western starring Armie Hammer as the titular character and Johnny Depp as Tonto was outpaced 3 to 1 by Universal's "Despicable Me 2," which also opened Wednesday. The animated sequel collected $59.9 million in ticket sales so far, while "The Lone Ranger" earned a paltry $19.5 million.

While Disney is likely to recover based on its other strong offerings this summer, including Pixar's "Monsters University" and Marvel's "Iron Man 3," the masked man's dismal box-office showing may spell trouble for Depp and all but ends any hope for a Lone Ranger franchise.

"This is one and done," said Stuart Oldham, editor of the industry trade site Variety.com. "You're not going to see another Lone Ranger movie after this."

It's a "big disappointment" for Disney, said media and entertainment analyst Martin Pyykkonen of Wedge Partners. Although the film had been set up for a sequel, "it's obviously not even going to come close to covering the production costs," the analyst said.

Years in the making, "Lone Ranger" filming was shut down for weeks in 2011 because of soaring costs that still ended up in the $250-million range.

Poor reviews for the film may have contributed to the sluggish ticket sales. Chicago Sun-Times critic Richard Roeper called it "slick trash," while the AP's Jake Coyle said the two-and-a-half hour spectacle "finally, exhaustingly collapses in a scrap heap of train wreckage."

""The Lone Ranger' is, alas, a runaway train," Coyle writes.

It's a serious misstep for blockbuster producer Jerry Bruckheimer, director Gore Verbinski and megastar Depp, who partnered profitably on the first three "Pirates of the Caribbean" films. Depp's take on Tonto has been compared unfavorably to Captain Jack Sparrow in face paint.

"(The studio thought) if we have Johnny Depp and we transfer him over to another funny hat and call him Tonto, we're going to be OK, but it's not OK," said Gene Del Vecchio, author of "Creating Blockbusters.

Part of the problem, he said, is that children aren't nearly as familiar with the Lone Ranger as they are with the animated characters in "Despicable Me 2" and last week's first-place film, "Monsters University."

"Kids really need to be reintroduced to the Lone Ranger," he said. "Instead, they were introduced to Tonto in the marketing."

The failure of "The Lone Ranger" could impact studio decisions about what to green-light going forward, and not just at Disney.

"From a film-industry standpoint, when you peel back the onion, you're not going to take a big risk on a big-production film that doesn't have a proven franchise," Pyykkonen said, especially in light of other recent bombs including "John Carter," ''Battleship" and "After Earth."

"What's going to take a hit is creativity in Hollywood," Oldham said. "You're going to see more sequels and more remakes after these big bombs."

Pyykkonen said the future of the proven "Pirates" franchise could even be in question.

"There's probably going to be some head-scratching in the Disney film studio board rooms," he said. "Like, 'We've had a few in a row here that didn't win at the box office, do we really want to do a 'Pirates' 5?"

British Defense Minister Philip Hammond told lawmakers Wednesday that military physical aptitude tests won't apply to computer experts working as reservists.

He says the military will "specifically be recruiting cyberreservists, who will not necessarily have to have the same levels of fitness or deployability as reservists in general."

Britain, like other countries, is boosting its electronic capabilities as attention increasingly turns to the twin threats of cyberespionage and cybersabotage.

The U.K. is already active in the world of hacking.

Documents recently leaked by U.S. intelligence worker Edward Snowden have revealed details of alleged aggressive British cyberattacks against other countries' diplomats at international conferences.

Now, the 1986 pen and ink creation drawn by writer/artist Frank Miller that is the cover to "The Dark Knight Returns" No. 2 will be sold next month in Dallas by Heritage Auctions.

It's the first cover from DC Comics' 1986 four-issue "Dark Knight" miniseries to be sold and is expected to go for more than $500,000.

Miller's story "radically altered the direction of comics," said Todd Hignite, Heritage's vice president.

"For fans of modern comics, this drawing is where everything really begins," he said. "This moment defines Miller's Dark Knight, and the modern day perception of Batman, like no other drawing."

The only cover Hignite says might come close is the next in the series with Batman and Robin that was auctioned two years ago for nearly $450,000.

"It represents not only one of the most memorable images from the 1980s, but from Batman's entire illustrious history," Hignite said. "Miller's revolutionary Dark Knight radically altered the direction of comics with its prestige miniseries format, combined with the fact that it was one of the first modern mainstream features to put a gritty noir patina on the squeaky-clean Silver Age hero mythos previously exemplified by DC."

Also up for sale is a 9.2-graded copy of "Batman" No. 1 from 1940, that shows Batman and Robin swinging in front of a Gotham city skyline. It's being auctioned on behalf of Tadano America Corp. A similar copy sold for $850,000 in 2012.

"By any measure this is one of the most desirable comic books in existence," said Barry Sandoval, director of operations for comics and comic art category at Heritage. "There are just a few comics ahead of this on the ultimate comics list, but it's close when you see just how fantastic the shape of this book is."

The record price for a comic book remains "Action Comics" No. 1, which sold for $2.16 million in 2011. That featured Superman's first appearance.

Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White said that as of Saturday evening the more than 300 people who were aboard Asiana Flight 214 had been located at either hospitals or the airport.

Earlier Saturday, Hayes-White had reported that authorities did not know where "upwards of 60" people were after the crash.

She says the confusion stemmed from survivors being brought from the wreckage from two different locations.

Samsung Electronics Co. on Friday estimated its April-June operating profit at a record high of 9.5 trillion won ($8.3 billion). That is a 47 percent jump from a year earlier and 8 percent growth from the previous quarter.

But it fell short of forecasts by analysts who held higher expectation for the world's largest smartphone maker.

Analysts surveyed by FactSet, a financial data provider, forecast operating income of 10.2 trillion won on average. Samsung shares dropped nearly 4 percent in Seoul.

Samsung said sales grew 20 percent to 57 trillion won ($50 billion).

Sales of the latest iteration of Samsung's flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S4, hit 10 million units in May, less than a month since its debut. Sales of the S4 hit the 10 million mark about 20 days faster than the previous model.

Analysts say high marketing costs probably weighed on Samsung's mobile business despite the robust sales in the first month.

"Because of the marketing costs, the telecommunications business was probably weaker than expected," said CW Chung, an analyst at Nomura Financial Investment in Seoul. "Semiconductor and other businesses seem to have improved from the previous quarter."

The popularity of Galaxy smartphones has fueled Samsung's year-long string of record quarterly earnings.

But worries have emerged that Samsung's profit growth will slow as developed countries, which are the biggest buyers of high-end phones, near a smartphone saturation point.

It has become harder to impress buyers with new features in upgraded models as most smartphones offer similar functions. Fewer wow factors in new smartphones mean people will not upgrade as quickly as they did when the devices were still a novelty, forcing device makers such as Samsung to spend more on splashy advertising and marketing.

South Korean telephone companies reduced subsidies for new phones this year, which contributed to weaker Galaxy S4 sales in Samsung's home market and higher marketing spending for the handset maker, said Seo Won-seok, an analyst at Korea Investment & Securities.

Another concern is that Samsung is increasingly relying on its mobile business for growth. Samsung's division that makes and sells mobile phones, tablet computers and cameras contributed 75 percent of its operating income in the first quarter of this year. Analysts surveyed by FactSet said 60 percent of Samsung's second-quarter sales likely came from the mobile business.

The South Korean company will announce net income and details of quarterly financial results later this month.

Night sky photographer Giuseppe Petricca of Pisa, Tuscany in Italy captured the dazzling view of aand the quarter moon on June 16 during Patron's Saint Day celebrations in the city.

The patron saint of Pisa is Saint Ranieri. The city honored Ranieri with annual fireworks or bonfire displays since the 15th century, according to the tourism website Pisa Online. The Luminara, a tradition that decorates parts of Pisa with candlelight to honor Ranieri, dates back to the 19th century.
