In an interview with Sacramento television station KOVR on Friday, Priscilla Rodriquez said her son "could never hurt his sister."

The boy who has not been named by authorities was arrested Saturday. He will be charged with homicide, Calaveras County Sheriff Gary Kuntz said.

In the interview, Rodriquez said, "I know my son could never hurt his sister.

"They never used to fight when they were little," she said.

Rodriquez told the station that a bitter custody battle had driven a wedge between her and the children's father.

The April 27 attack on Leila Fowler shook the tightknit Valley Springs community of about 7,400 people and set off a massive manhunt.

Investigators did a door-to-door sweep of homes, storage sheds and horse stables scattered across the oak-studded hills foothills of the Sierra Nevada. Divers also searched two nearby reservoirs in search of clues.

After hearing Leila's brother had been arrested, residents were in disbelief.

"I did not want to believe it. You kind of thought so, but it's not something you want to believe," Tammy Ainsworth told Sacramento's KCRA-TV.

By Sunday, investigators had released few details of the arrest and did not return calls from The Associated Press seeking details of what led them to arrest the boy.

The boy had told police he found his sister's body and encountered an intruder in the home while their father and stepmother were at a Little League game. He described the man as being tall with long gray hair. But afterward, police said there was no sign of a burglary or robbery.

A neighbor told detectives she saw a man flee the home, but she later recanted the story and was discredited by police.

As part of the investigation, authorities seized several knives from the Fowler home, where Leila lived with her father, stepmother and siblings.

Leila's brother was taken into custody at 5:10 p.m. Saturday, and police hastily called a news conference to announce the arrest.

"Citizens of Calaveras County, you can sleep a little better tonight," Kuntz said.

Authorities spent more than 2,000 hours on the investigation "to provide Leila Fowler's family answers to her death," the sheriff said.

Kuntz said the investigation was ongoing and declined to provide further details.

Local officials pledged support Sunday. The Calaveras Unified School District "stands ready to provide whatever level of support and assistance is necessary to the Fowler family" and the community, Superintendent Mark Campbell said in a statement. The district will make counselors available at all schools, he said.

Several days after the killing, hundreds of people gathered at Jenny Lind Elementary School where Leila was a popular third-grader. Her stepmother, Krystal Walters, tearfully thanked the crowd for the support.

"I just want to thank the entire community and all of our family and friends for all the overwhelming amount of support you've given our family," Walters said at the time. "It will never be forgotten. Thank you."

Aldean, who became one of country music's biggest stars with his 2011 album "My Kinda Party," cited irreconcilable differences for the divorce in court documents filed late on Friday in Williamson County, Tennessee.

"This is a really tough time for my entire family," Aldean said in a statement on Monday. "Jessica and I have been together since we were teenagers. We've been through a lot of ups and downs over the years as we grew up together as a couple.

"She will always be important to me because she is the mother of my children, and I know that we will both always make our daughters our number one priority," he added in the statement.

The singer, whose real name is Jason Williams, publicly apologized last year for "acting inappropriately" when the photos showing him and reality show contestant Brittany Kerr were published.

Both Aldean and Kerr were subjected to vitriol from fans on social media platforms at the time and issued formal apologies to their families and friends.

Aldean, 36, and Ussery, 33, married in 2001 and have two children, ages 10 and 5.

Rumors that the couple had split picked up earlier this month when Aldean attended the annual Academy of Country Music awards, where he won Male Vocalist of the Year award, without Ussery.

Mickelson topped the leaderboard for most of the day and Watney took his turn alone in first place late in the day before both players fell back after double-bogeys to head into Sunday's final round knotted at eight-under-par 208.

Their fellow-American George McNeil bogeyed the 18th to fall out of a three-way tie for the lead and was alone in third place on seven-under 209.

The stumbles by the leaders brought a slew of other contenders into prime position.

Two strokes off the pace at six-under-par 210 were Britons Lee Westwood (72) and David Lynn (71), Ryan Moore (68), Australian John Senden (67), Robert Karlsson of Sweden (69) and American Derek Ernst (72).

Five players were another shot away, including world number two Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland, who struggled with his putter on the way to posting a one-over 73 for 211.

Players will be grouped in threesomes and start earlier than usual on Sunday as forecasts call for possible heavy rains overnight that could last until Monday.

McCoy, who became expendable when Cleveland signed veteran free agent quarterback Jason Campbell last week, was traded Monday to the San Francisco 49ers for two draft picks.

The Browns confirmed the deal on the same day new coach Rob Chudzinski welcomed more than 60 players including McCoy for the start of the team's voluntary offseason conditioning program.

The Browns only said they received two "undisclosed" draft choices, but a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press the team got a fifth- and seventh-round pick in this month's NFL draft in exchange for McCoy and Cleveland's sixth-round pick. The person provided details of the trade on condition of anonymity. The Browns now have seven picks in this year's draft.

McCoy is one of 18 quarterbacks to start for the Browns since 1999. The team's inability to find a franchise QB is among the biggest reasons Cleveland has made the playoffs just once in 14 seasons.

For a short period, McCoy showed promise of being the quarterback to revive the Browns. But he was flattened on a vicious hit in 2011, lost his job to Brandon Weeden last season and became the odd-man out after Campbell's arrival.

CBSSports.com was first to report McCoy's trade.

Last week, Browns CEO Joe Banner said the Browns would not release McCoy and would look for a trade partner. In San Francisco, the 26-year-old McCoy will compete with Scott Tolzien to back up Colin Kaepernick. The Niners have been looking for a reliable backup since trading Alex Smith to Kansas City at the start of free agency.

A popular player with some Cleveland fans who felt he never got a fair shake, McCoy will also be reunited in San Francisco with former Browns kicker Phil Dawson, who recently signed a one-year free agent deal with the Niners.

Because of injuries to Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace, McCoy, who won 45 career games at Texas, was forced into the starting lineup as a rookie and made eight starts.

Though not blessed with a strong arm, McCoy's mobility in the pocket allowed him to make enough plays that the Browns kept him as their No. 1 QB in 2011. He started 13 games, but his season was essentially ended and his career altered when he took a helmet-to-helmet hit from Pittsburgh linebacker James Harrison.

The Browns allowed McCoy to return to the game despite having a concussion, and the team's mishandling of the situation led to the NFL making some changes to its policy on head injuries.

McCoy was in line to be Cleveland's starter in 2012, but the team chose Weeden in the first round. McCoy spent much of last season as the subject of trade rumors and he was knocked down the depth chart once Campbell was signed to a two-year deal.

Campbell is expected to play behind Weeden next season, but could challenge him for the starting job. The Browns also have quarterback Thaddeus Lewis, who made one start in 2012, under contract.

McCoy, who went 6-15 as a starter, appeared in three games last season. He came in after Weeden hurt his shoulder against Denver on Dec. 23, but McCoy sustained a right shoulder injury on one of the four sacks recorded against him by the Broncos and he was inactive for Cleveland's season finale.

McCoy completed 409 of 702 passes (53 percent) for 4,388 yards with 21 touchdowns and 20 interceptions with the Browns.

The founder of Perry Homes, a major homebuilding company he established in Texas in 1968, Perry was among the pioneers of the new, post-Citizens United era in political spending, which saw a small handful of elite money men emerge as multimillion-dollar donors to super PACS in the first presidential election under their reign.

So how did Perry spread his political money around, and how did his efforts influence 2012?

Though he was best known for his backing of Mitt Romney and spending 99 percent of his political donations to Republican causes, Perry diversified his contributions within the GOP, donating to multiple contenders, sometimes in the same races.

Perry began his career as a political donor well before the super PAC era. In 2006, Perry and his wife, Doylene, made their first contribution to Arizona Sen. John McCain for the 2008 election cycle. They then went on to write additional checks that May and again after McCain secured the GOP presidential nomination.

Six years later Perry topped the list as the third-biggest political contributor during the 2012 presidential election cycle, giving $23,450,000 to Super PACs in support of Mitt Romney.

Tim Pawlenty, a contender on Mitt Romney's short list to his running mate, also touted receiving support from the millionaire.Perry and his wife gave a combined $10,000 to Pawlenty's presidential campaign and another $60,000 to his political action committee.

Donating to more than one candidate in a single election cycle is not double dipping, but rather presidential politicking.

The Center for Responsive Politics reported that Mitt Romney had 616 multi-givers and 261 of those donations overlapped with Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

At the height of Rick Perry's presidential-campaign bubble, Bob Perry donated $100,000 to the pro-Rick-Perry super PAC, Make Us Great Again, in August 2011. Though Gov. Perry raked in millions from donors like Bob Perry upon announcing his bid for the White House, Perry did not rank among the top contributors to Gov. Perry's presidential campaign.

On Monday, Gov. Perry released a statement remembering the life of the big-time donor.

"His astonishing success story as a businessman serves as an inspiration to anyone who ever dreamed of bigger things, and his selfless dedication to the people and causes he believed in serves as an inspiration to anyone who has ever felt the call to get involved. Bob Perry left his state, and his country, in a better place than where he found it, and he will be profoundly missed by us all."

Perry ranked third on the list of top donors to outside spending groups, according to theBehind Sheldon Adelson ($92.7 million) and fellow Texas Harold Simmons of Dallas ($26.8 million), Perry's $23.4 million ranked him well ahead of the fourth-place Fred Eychaner ($14 million) and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg ($13 million). Perry was one of just six people to donate more than $10 million to outside spending groups in 2012.

Perry was also the largest single donor to GOP causes in his home state of Texas.

In the mid-1990's Perry contributed to the gubernatorial races of former President George W. Bush and later he helped finance the Swift Veterans for Truth campaign which aimed to deride John Kerry, Bush' democratic counterpart.

He also donated $45,000 to the campaign of George P. Bush, the 36-year-old nephew of the former president who is claiming his stake as Texas Land Commissioner in his first run for office.

Anreports that Perry gave $28 million to candidates and causes from Texas and an additional $38 million to outside groups and individuals.

Though he was a frequent in contributing conservative campaign cash, Perry did support a few Democratic officeholders, including state Rep. Sylvester Turner and state Sen. Mario Gallegos, who. Both State Representatives served in Texas.
