iPhone 修理・カスタマイズの modcrew が、スマートフォンやタブレットの防水加工サービスを発表しました。
防水加工は機器の内部をナノレベルの撥水性皮膜で覆うことで、浸水しても電気系統には触れさせない仕組みです。外から覆うケースで本体のデザインを損うことも、端子類にゴム栓をする必要もありません。

対象機器としては、公式サイトでは iPhone 、 iPod nano 、 GALAXY Note 、 " GALAXY " 、 iPad が挙げられています。最後から2番目の GALAXY が何を含むのかは不明。

サービスの開始時期は2012年秋。
まもなく予約の受付を開始する予定で、現在は通知メールの登録ができます。
価格は順次発表の予定。海外では同種の防水コーティング技術をすでに複数の企業が提供しており、たとえば modcrew と同じ個人向けサービスを提供する Liquipel の料金は 59ドル＋送料となっています。

なお、modcrewは5月30日より3日間、東京ビッグサイトの「WIRELESS JAPAN 2012」で防水加工を施した機器のデモを実施しています。続きは iPhone や iPod nano を渓流に放り込む紹介動画。
