『GIRL FRIEND』では　経験を歌詞に込めました

モットーを刻んだ最新タトウーとは？

去年韓国でリリースされたミニアルバム『TAKE A DEEPER LOOK』とニューアルバム
『NEW BREED』の日本ライセンス盤を６月に同時発売したJAY PARK。どちらもK-POPと本場のブラックミュージックがバランスよくブレンドされた名盤だ。
「『TAKE A DEEPER LOOK』は初めて自主曲を発表したアルバム『NEW BREED』ではセルフプロデュースをしました。この２枚を通じて僕の音楽性が確立したと思ってます。」

『NEW BREED』のジャケット写真は顔半分に特殊メイクを施したインパクトのあるもの。全身タトウーを入れた"ゾンビーボーイ"リック・ジェネがモチーフなんだとか。『全身タトウーまではできないけど、それくらいキャッチーで破壊的なものにしたいと思ったんです』

歌詞は実体験と空想などを混ぜて作るというJAY。アルバムの中で一番のお気に入りは
『GIRL FRIEND』（GF）だそうだ。「例えば、GFの『君と話したくて韓国語を習ったんだ』
という歌詞は、好きな子にメールを送りたくて韓国語を勉強したという昔の経験からできた
フレーズです。最近GFの英語バージョンを作ったんですけど、すごく出来がいいんです。
皆さんにもきいてほしいです。」

今作には、JAYが幼い頃からリスペクトしているというDynamic Duo,Tiger JK,ユン・ミレが参加した。「皆さん忙しいのでゆっくりお酒を飲んだのは１度きり。でも刺激はたくさん受けています。みんなエネルギッシュだしMCも最高にクールでおもしろい。僕のステージングは彼らのステージをみて学んだものです」

最近では他のアーティストに楽曲を提供する機会も増えた。
「U-KISSのスヒョンに頼まれて書いたのが『４U』。男性アイドルグループなので、ファンの女の子が好きそうな溌剌とした曲を作りました。デモを僕が歌ったのですが、僕のスタイルではないかな。あまりに甘いから(笑)」

韓国のトップダンスチームPrepix所属のB-BOYという一面も持っているJAY。プライベートでもほとんどの時間を彼らと共有している。
「映画を観たりボウリングしたり、もちろんダンスしたり。ほとんど毎日会っています。公演や撮影の前には、夜中に集まって練習もしますし。先週もダンスバトルに出場したんですよ。残念ながらベスト８で落ちちゃったけど。僕、ダンスバトルが大好きなんです。日本のチームとも一度バトルしてみたいなと思います」

JAYと言えば、体のそこかしこに掘られたタトゥーが有名。インタビューの10日前にも、
ニュータトゥーを彫ったそう。
「左腕にたくさん彫っているでしょう。どうせだったら全部埋めちゃえと（笑）。
左の上腕三頭筋部分にローマ字で僕のモットーである『Live Free』と彫りました。
今までで一番痛かった。今でもお風呂に入るとしみるし、すれるので横を向いて寝れないんですよ」　そんな左腕のタトゥーも完成には程遠いとか。

「タトゥーを入れるのは、僕なりの自己表現。（自分を指さし、日本語で）ヘンタイ。ハハッ（笑）」

この夏はソウルを皮切りにアジアツアーが決定している。
「ソウル以外、まだ開催国は決まっていませんが、今回のショーケースの100倍おもしろい公演にしたいと思っています」

「今回のショーケースも楽しかったし、また絶対来たいです。ライブするなら、ファンの方との距離が近くてみんなスタンディングで楽しめるフラットなライブ会場がいいですね。その方が盛り上がると思うし、みんなの呼吸を感じたいから」

EVENT REPORT

『アルバム発売記念スペシャルショーケース』を開催　　　７月１日＠渋谷DUO

渋谷のライブハウスで行われたプレミアムライブ。午後３時。１曲目の「Abandoned」のイントロ
が流れJAYが登場すると会場には割れんばかりの歓声が響いた。その声量がハンパない。キレキレに踊りまくるJAYに、ファンたちもかけ声で応える。まるでラップバトルのようだ。最も盛り上がったのが「Nothin'Oｎ You」。JAYのリードでファンが大合唱すると、会場は一体感に包まれた。
JAYは本当に空気作りが上手！

DOK2不在でラップ部分まで披露した「KNOW YOUR NAME」では、女性ダンサーとセクシーな絡みでファンを刺激。「GIRLFRIEND」では、最前列のファンの目を見つめながら歌うという甘い演出も。ライブ中間に設けられたトークタイムでは「クラブが大好きだけど、今日に備えて昨日は我慢したよ」「お腹が痛くなるほどお寿司を食べすぎた」と語り、ファンを和ませた。全７曲。
クールすぎるJAYの魅力に完全にハマった、熱いライブだった。
