Burke, the AP Player of the Year, matched his entire output from Saturday night's semifinal in a mere 164 seconds. But he also drew his second foul with 11:09 left and was lifted from the game by coach John Beilein.

Albrecht, meanwhile, made all three of his 3-point attempts to improve to 8-for-8 from long range thus far in the tournament.

Wayne Blackshear had five points for Louisville, as the teams got off to a fast-paced and sizzling start. They combined to make 14 of their first 25 shots.

Watching from the stands were all five members of the Fab Five, the brash group of sophomores who led Michigan to the final in 1993 the program's last appearance at the Final Four.

That included Chris Webber, who infamously called a timeout the Wolverines didn't have at the end of Michigan's 77-71 loss to North Carolina in the 1993 final. He has had very little to do with his alma mater in recent years, but was seen getting out of his car and heading into the Georgia Dome shortly before tip-off.

Top-seeded Louisville (34-5) is trying to bring its first title back to the state of Kentucky's "other" school since 1986. Sitting on the bench with the Cardinals is sophomore guard Kevin Ware, the team's inspiration since snapping his tibia in the regional final last weekend.

Cardinals coach Rick Pitino is working the sideline hours after being named to the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame.

Pitino is trying to become the first coach to lead two programs to national championships. He took Kentucky to the title in 1996.

Russ Smith, the Louisville team leader who Pitino has nicknamed "Russdiculous" for some of his wild and wildly effective antics on the court, scores 18.9 points a game for the Cardinals during the season but has picked up the scoring in the tournament, averaging 25 in the five Louisville wins.

The Cardinals are playing without their main reserve, Ware, who broke his leg in the regional final against Duke. Needing a pickup without Ware, reserve swingman Luke Hancock scored 20 points in the 72-68 win over Wichita State. And rarely used walk-on Tim Henderson made two key 3-pointers during the comeback.

"The other night, we were not going to play in the championship game unless a walk-on steps up and makes a play to give us momentum," Pitino said in a pregame interview.

Michigan topped Syracuse 61-56 on Saturday despite an off night from Burke, who finished with only seven points on 1-for-8 shooting.

Burke, a sophomore, seriously considered leaving for the NBA after last season but decided he had unfinished business left in Ann Arbor. He picked up the AP Player of the Year award, among others, and is now one victory away from the ultimate prize in college hoops.

Before leaving the locker room, Beilein gave his team a pep talk: "You play with poise, play with confidence, you do all those things today and we're going to have one heck of a celebration," he said.

Monday night's game is the final act in what has been an ugly season overall in college hoops, with scoring at its lowest (67.49 points per team) since 1951-52 and shooting at its worst (43.3 percent) since 1964-65. The 131.2-points-per-game average during March Madness is the lowest since the 3-point line was brought to the game in 1987, though the teams were on pace to easily surpass that midway through the first half.

A three-member tribunal also found Rios Montt guilty of crimes against humanity and sentenced him to 80 years in prison.

Enigmatic, with a stern face and a thunderous voice, he began his career in the Guatemalan army in 1946 as a cadet, rising to the rank of brigadier general in 1972.

He first tried to become president in 1974, losing an election that many believe was stolen from him amid allegations of fraud. Then in March 1982, he seized power after a military coup and began an 18-month reign during the bloodiest phase in Guatemala's 36-year civil war.

It was during this time that most of the hundreds of massacres against Maya Indians committed by the army were carried out as part of the U.S.-backed military's scorched-earth offensive against a leftist uprising based in the Mayan heartland.

Prosecutors argued during his trial that while in power, Rios Montt knew about and was responsible for the slaughter by subordinates of at least 1,771 people in the Quiche department of Guatemala's western highlands. They said the purported plan was to eliminate an indigenous Mayan ethnic group known as the Ixil in the towns of San Juan Cotzal, San Gaspar Chajul and Santa Maria Nebaj.

Rios Montt's administration is remembered for its ferocious counterinsurgency campaign, for faceless judges who held summary trials for those considered subversives and for the televised moralist and religious messages the dictator shared with the nation every Sunday night.

"The man who has two women is a pig; the woman who has two men is a hen," he told Guatemalans in one nationwide broadcast.

He was himself deposed by a coup in August 1983. He had sown discord with a wide swath of Guatemalans army leaders angry over his promotion of young officers in defiance of tradition; businessmen and the middle class upset by the creation of new taxes; Roman Catholics put out by his ignoring a request for clemency from Pope John Paul II on behalf of several prisoners sentenced to death.

A born-again evangelical Christian, Rios Montt also refused to bow before the pope during his visit to the predominantly Catholic country in 1983.

In an ironic twist, Rios Montt is the brother of Bishop Mario Enrique Rios Mont, who spells his last name differently and has headed the Roman Catholic Church's human rights commission in Guatemala.

Despite his tough rule, Rios Montt remained popular among many Guatemalans, especially in the areas hardest hit by the military offensive against guerrillas, due to his social welfare programs and the relative peace his "iron fist" approach brought to some regions.

During his trial, about 500 Ixil Mayans arrived in the capital to show their support in buses with banners that read "Do not shame the Ixil with that idea of genocide, because that's a lie."

The demonstrators arrived from Nebaj in the state of Quiche, an area where some of the worst massacres were carried out by the army.

But when Rios Montt was on trial this year, dozens of victims testified of surviving rapes, massacres and other atrocities as children, women and unarmed men were slaughtered in a "scorched earth" campaign aimed at eliminating support for a left-wing guerrilla movement.

Rios Montt's popularity among some groups was such that lawmakers in 1985 added a clause to the constitution banning him or any of his descendants from running for president. From that moment on, he worked on changing the law and on strengthening the Guatemalan Republican Front Party, a right-wing movement he created and formally registered in 1990. The party eventually changed its name to the Institutional Republican Party.

He made it back to government as a lawmaker in 1999, when his party won the presidency with Alfonso Portillo and a majority in Congress. His party appointed him congressional leader.

Rios Montt finally realized his dream of running for president again in August 2003. The Constitutional Court overturned several previous rulings and allowed his candidacy after tens of thousands of poor farmers sponsored by his party rioted in Guatemala City. But he finished far behind in third place, hurt partly by several corruption scandals during Portillo's government and increasing insecurity.

Despite a series of international inquiries finding him responsible for war crimes, Rios Montt served as a congressman for 15 years until he lost a re-election race in 2011. He held immunity from prosecution while a member of Congress and was put under house arrest after losing his post.

A judge charged him with genocide and crimes against humanity in January 2012. After the courts dealt with more than 100 appeals, the trial started this March.

The trial was widely seen as a turning point for a nation still wrestling with the trauma of a conflict that killed some 200,000 people.

The former general, who sat stiffly in court, impeccably attired in dark suits and well-shined shoes, steadfastly denied any guilt.

"I declare myself innocent," Rios Montt told the three-judge tribunal Thursday as many in the audience applauded. "It was never my intention or my goal to destroy a whole ethnic group."

"I never ordered attacks on a specific race. I never did it, and of everything they have said, there was no clear participation," he added.

The oldest of Rios Montt's three children, Homero,died in 1982 when guerrillas shot down the helicopter he was traveling in. His other son, Enrique, served in the army until his father's political party reached the presidency and he went into government as defense minister.

Zury, his only daughter and the youngest, followed her father's political career and was elected to Congress several times as a member of his party. She is married to a former member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Jerry Weller, a Republican from Illinois.

Australian climatologists have published a study that compared results from five global research groups, each of which used different modeling approaches to develop future wave-climate scenarios.

Their : "We find an agreed projected decrease in annual mean significant wave height over 25.8% of the global ocean area." Translation, as succinctly put by , "Surfing is going to suck for a quarter of the world."

"We're feeling very excited and gratified that we've reached this milestone," said Jane Alcorn, president of the Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe, on Long Island. Her group announced last week that it had finalized the purchase of the Tesla lab and property for $850,000.

Tesla was a rival of Thomas Edison who imagined a world of free electricity. He conducted experiments in the early 20th century at his laboratory in Shoreham, about 65 miles east of New York City.

Volunteers struggled for nearly two decades to raise money to acquire the property with limited success.

Their effort got a jolt of support last summer from Seattle cartoonist Matthew Inman, a Tesla fan who started promoting the fundraising effort on his website, theoatmeal.com.

Within six weeks, more than $1.3 million had been raised from 33,000 donors in the U.S. and 108 countries.

Tesla abandoned the lab in 1917. For many years it was a photo chemical processing plant; in 1993, officials determined that the property's groundwater had been polluted with cadmium and silver. A remediation effort overseen by state environmental regulators was completed last year.

Alcorn said that the purchase of the property was a key first step but noted much work needs to be done before the group can realize its goal: "to create a fitting memorial to Tesla and a science center to benefit the entire world."

She estimated another $10 million will be required to renovate the property, which is overrun with brush and includes several dilapidated buildings in the complex that will likely need to be demolished.

Alcorn said her group's first priority is to secure the property from further vandalism. Additional fundraisers are being discussed, but Alcorn had no specific details.

Among Tesla's accomplishments were developments in alternating current and research in the creation of wireless communication and radio. He died in New York City in 1943.

The righty was hit hard Sunday in a 14-2 loss to the Miami Marlins, his second straight bad outing, then admitted to reporters after the game that he was pitching hurt.

"It's not something that I had before," Halladay said Sunday. "It's something new this year. I felt good all spring. I had soreness in there and just wasn't able to get rid of it."

Halladay, who turns 36 this month, is 2-4 with an 8.65 ERA in seven starts this season.

Chicago White Sox pitcher Gavin Floyd will have season-ending Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, and will likely miss 14 to 19 months.

The right-hander, who was hurt April 27 outing against the Tampa Bay Rays, will have surgery on Tuesday, after receiving multiple opinions.

Floyd went 0-4 with a 5.18 ERA in five starts this season.

Interestingly, though, . Obviously, turning the page towards a New Year inspires a fresh start and thats completely understandable, too. Once you have the report, monitor your score carefully so youll be the first to know if any unusual activity occurs. 4. Open new accounts in your name. Moving forward as a single woman in 2012 will require that you have a bank account and credit cards in your name. Lay the groundwork now. Dont use the bank where you currently have your joint accounts. Go to a different bank and open both a savings and a checking account in your name. Youll need your own credit card, too, so you should start that process now, as well.are making it harder than ever for women with little or no income to establish credit on their own. You can do it. But, plan accordingly and know that securing credit is going to be more complicated than just filling out an application or making a single phone call.

5. Remain vigilant. Is your husband using the good cheer of the holidays as cover while he dissipates family assets? Be attentive, and if you are concerned at all about financial shenanigans by your husband, you may want to .

The House approved the measure on a 361-41 vote, a day after the Senate agreed to the bill. Friday's vote came as lawmakers prepared to leave town for a weeklong spring recess, a break that would have been less pleasant if they were confronted by constituents upset over travel delays.

Republicans accused the Obama administration of purposely furloughing controllers to pressure Congress to replace $85 billion in across-the-board spending cuts known as the sequester that took effect last month at government agencies.

"The administration has played shameful politics with the sequester at the cost of hard-working American families," said Rep. Tom Latham, R-Iowa.

The White House and Democrats have argued that by law, the administration has little room to decide where the cuts fall. They want Congress to work on legislation lifting all of the cuts, which lawmakers noted have also caused reductions in Head Start preschool programs, benefits for the long-term unemployed and medical research.

White House press secretary Jay Carney said the president would sign the new bill, but he added, "The problem is this is just a Band-Aid solution."

During House debate, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., had a similar complaint.

"How can we sit there and say, 'Four million Meals on Wheels for seniors, gone, but that's not important. Over 70,000 children off Head Start, but that's not important," Pelosi said.

The Federal Aviation Administration has furloughed the controllers as part of the government-wide reductions. The bill would let the FAA use up to $253 million from airport improvement and other accounts to end the furloughs through the Sept. 30 end of the federal fiscal year.

In addition to restoring full staffing by controllers, the available funds can be used for other FAA operations, including preventing the closure of small airport towers around the country. The FAA had said it would shut the facilities to meet its share of the spending cuts.

The FAA said there had been at least 863 flights delayed on Wednesday "attributable to staffing reductions resulting from the furlough."

Administration officials participated in the negotiations that led to the deal and evidently registered no objections.

Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, a key participant in the talks, said the legislation would "prevent what otherwise would have been intolerable delays in the air travel system, inconveniencing travelers and hurting the economy."

Senate approval Thursday night followed several hours of pressure-filled, closed-door negotiations, and came after most senators had departed the Capitol on the assumption that the talks had fallen short.

For the White House and Senate Democrats, the discussions on legislation relating to one relatively small slice of the $85 billion in spending cuts marked a shift in position in a long-running struggle with Republicans over budget issues. Similarly, the turn of events marked at least modest vindication of a decision by the House GOP last winter to finesse some budget struggles in order to focus public attention on the across-the-board cuts in hopes they would gain leverage over President Barack Obama.

The Professional Aviation Safety Specialists, a union that represents FAA employees, reported a number of incidents it said were due to the furloughs.

In one case, it said several flights headed for Long Island MacArthur Airport in New York were diverted on Wednesday when a piece of equipment failed. "While the policy for this equipment is immediate restoral, due to sequestration and furloughs it was changed to next-day restoral," the union said.

The airlines, too, had pressed Congress to restore the FAA to full staffing.

In an interview Wednesday, Robert Isom, chief operations officer of US Airways, said, "In the airline business, you try to eliminate uncertainty. Some factors you can't control, like weather. It (the FAA issue) is worse than the weather."

In a shift, first the White House and then senior Democratic lawmakers signaled a willingness in the past two days to support legislation that alleviates the budget crunch at the FAA, while leaving the balance of the $85 billion to remain in effect.

Obama favors a comprehensive agreement that replaces the entire $85 billion in across-the-board cuts as part of a broader deficit-reduction deal that includes higher taxes and spending cuts.

Officials estimate it would cost slightly more than $200 million to restore air traffic controllers to full staffing, and an additional $50 million to keep open smaller air traffic towers around the country that the FAA has proposed closing.

Kimberly Blackwell, 44, director of theprogram at Duke Cancer Institute, made TIME'slist for her work to develop treatments for this deadly disease. Blackwell's research focuses on a highly aggressive form in which cells produce too much of the protein HER2, which accounts for about one in five breast cancers, according to the Mayo Clinic. Blackwell's treatment approach, known as a "smart bomb," consists of an anticancer toxin that contains an antibody that can recognize the tumor, so healthy cells are not affected meaningfewer side effects and better chances of survival. Film studio executive Sherry Lansing, who wrote the TIMEpiece about Blackwell, had a mother die of cancer. "The brilliant work of Kimberly and scientists like her gives us real hope that we may, at last, be turning the corner in the fight against cancer," Lansing wrote.

Three AIDS researchers Hannah Gay, Katherine Luzuriaga and Deborah Persaud earned kudos from TIMEfor . Gay, a pediatrician at the University of Mississippi; Luzuriaga, an immunologist at the University of Massachusetts; and Persaud, a virologist at Johns Hopkins Children's Center, gave an HIV-positive baby HIV antiviral drugs within hours of its birth. Two-and-a-half years later, the child appears HIV-free, and does not require medication. Although this result represents only a single case, it "gives us more ammunition in the fight against HIV and AIDS," Mark Dybul, director of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria, wrote in TIME. The treatment offers hope for preventing AIDS in newborns, and possibly even adults a recent study claims 14 other patients have been able to keep their HIV under control.

Space pioneers

in this year's list, as stories of private rocket launches and meteorite impacts dominated the headlines. SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk, 41, appears on one of seven separate TIME covers and is listed in the "titans" category. TIME's tribute by business magnate Richard Branson hails Musk's achievements in private spaceflight (which include two successful unmanned missions to the International Space Station with SpaceX's Dragon capsule and Falcon 9 rocket). Musk, who also founded the companies Paypal, Tesla Motors and SolarCity, also gets a nod for his work in developing clean, renewable energy.

NASA asteroid hunter , 70, made the list in Time's "pioneers" category. Yeomens finds and tracks near-Earth objects, and "is one of the reasons we can all sleep a little better at night," according to former astronaut Rusty Schweickart, who founded the asteroid-hunting B612 Foundation and wrote about Yeomans for Time. Yeomans leads a team at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) that uses data collected by telescopes around the world to predict the trajectory of space rocks that could pose a threat to Earth years or decades from now. This threat was brought home earlier this year by the meteor explosion over Chelyablinsk, Russia, on Feb. 15, and the unrelated flyby of Asteroid 2012 DA14. Someday a stray rock might warrant a deflection campaign to spare humanity from the same fate as the dinosaurs, Schweickart wrote. []

In light of the successful deployment of NASA's Mars rover Curiosity, TIME recognized the missions project managers Peter Theisinger and Richard Cook, of JPL. Theisinger, 67, and Cook, 47, orchestrated the harrowing task of sending an SUV-sized spacecraft to Mars and lowering it on cables to the Red Planet's surface, where it is currently exploring. Seven months after landing, the rover has already found , its primary mission goal. "We can't thank Pete, Richard and their team enough for getting [the rover] there safely, and we should continue to thank them for the wisdom and thrills the rover will bring us as it explores its new home," wrote Caltech space scientist and former JPL Director Ed Stone in TIME.

Frankel was a runner-up on "The Apprentice: Martha Stewart." She appeared on "The Real Housewives of New York City," where she became a breakout star, then starred in a pair of her own reality shows.

She believes her honesty about the ups and downs of her personal life has helped people relate to her.

Frankel filed for divorce from her husband, Jason Hoppy, in January. They have a daughter, Bryn, who will soon celebrate her third birthday.

"Bryn's great. She is so sweet," said Frankel. "I just love taking her to school and going to the park. I do try to do a lot of different activities. She has such a great life."

Frankel said when she decided to do reality television, "I was going to "put it all out there and be honest about my flaws and the struggles."

"That's what really ended up creating a connection between me and women and I think what enabled (me) to have a talk show," she said. "It's just really a dialogue. It's been a trust and a relationship and a conversation that's gone for years."
