March 15, 2012 - the US will put FTA with Korea in force and the tariff on car from the US will decrease in Korea. 
Although it is not related to Japan at first sight, this may also bring benefit to our country.

As well as the appreciation of yen against US dollars, that against won is accelerating nowadays. 
In response to this economic situation, Mitsubishi, one of Japanese automobile company, decided to export their cars produced in the US to Korea. 
It seems to alleviate costs caused by strong yen. 

Honda and Toyota are trying to do the same products. The US was a place of producing cars just for the local market until last year, but the transformation to the place for the international market will accelerate in this year.

Japan will evacuate TOKYO in nuclear crisis?

It's been almost a year since the devastating earthquake happened. I was in my hometown and stayed with my mom. 
At first, I thought this earthquake would have been Tokai earthquake, which many scholars have anticipated for a long time, because even in my hometown, I felt strong shaking. But actually this happened in Tohoku area. 

I was worried my friends in Tokyo. Many media broadcasted the unbelievable situation that all the transportation system got out of control and people filled the road. They could not go home at that night. 

What if the earthquake happen again near the same area? 
Many scholars suggest that Fukushima Daini and other nuclear plants may cause melt down. Then Tokyo, the capital of Japan, would lose the whole electricity. We finally have reached the point that we have to think about evacuation of Tokyo.

Putin said "Just let them fear us."

This Sunday, Russia will hold the presidential election, which Putin will be reappointed for sure. Russian channel one reported Monday that Chechen's rebel warlord were planing to assassinate Putin with powerful explosion after the election. He was already informed it and he said in the first comment on plot that he wasn't intimidated. 

"People in my position have to live with it. If you fear that, it would be impossible to carry on. Let them be afraid of us." 

It definitely makes sense, but if Japanese president were in the same position, he would not say like this.

"Arab spring" has been the center of the conversation nowadays. This was started from Tunisia, suicide of a guy. 
Bouazizi Mohamed and his family made a living by selling vegetables with two-wheeled cart. One day, local officials suddenly visited his house and they told him to pay a fine due to the lack of selling permission. It implicated bribes. Once he refused their order, they resorted to violence and they seized his goods to sell. He tried to get them back from the local government, but he couldn't. He felt hopeless and he tried to commit suicide by FIRE.  
Generally, Suicide by fire is definitely banned among people who believe Islam. Even cremation is also forbidden. This means people would not go to the heaven after they die. Citizens were astonished his death and stood up for the revolution. 

As you know, SNS has been the strongest power of Arab spring. People now got the means to change the society instead of terrorism. Tunisian revolution encouraged people in Arab region to be active. "Next is our country." 
This seems like the collapse of the Berlin wall. People finally can speak out their voice to the public. However, people are now facing so many problems after the revolution. The politics tends to be unstanable and more and more people has committed suicide by fire to change the world.

Pakistan talks tough on Taliban peace talks. The minister of Pakistan said that it is almost impossible to bring Taliban chief, Mullah Omar to a negotiating table. The public comment from other countries has been always harsh because their talk is played out behind the closed door. America asked Pakistan not to support Taliban, when they began the war with Afghanistan. Instead, Pakistan got huge subsidies. However, no one knows whether Pakistan spends this money on driving out Taliban.

The most tricky issue is north-western region in Pakistan, which has extraterritorial right and the Pakistan government doesn't intervene their policies. Mobs of Taliban are said to stay there, therefore, it's complicated. The former president, G.W. Bush ordered Pakistan to go and wipe out them. As a result, terrorism incidents have flourished and many innocent citizens have been killed. 2 million people escaped from this region to Pakistan. They are now refugees, despite they are still in their own country.

UN warns that Afghanistan's heroin production has risen up by 61% in the past year, despite the Britain's invasion.
In 2001, the UK decided to dispatch their troops to Afghanistan for cracking down on Taliban, which supports the exports drugs to the UK. 
They have spent billions of pounds since then, but the situation is making a bleak picture far from curtailing the production. 
Taliban cannot survive without drugs because they buy weapons from mafias instead of drugs. 

May 2 2011, Osama bin Ladin was killed by US army in Pakistan. The goal of US-Afghanistan war is killing him, that is, they at least achieved their main task. After that, citizens in the US were wondering the purpose of their army's presence in Afghanistan. The President Obama decided to gradually decrease the number of troops. However, considering the situation as I said above, we have to think about it again. The increase in heroin production definitely indicates the power of Taliban. In fact, public safety is still far from sustainable. The government can take a control over citizens in daytime, but at night, Taliban exercises the control. People are always afraid of being killed by Taliban, so they can never be against at it. I think US military power is still in need to drastically change the situation in Afghanistan.

Iran cuts oil exports to Europe and declares nuclear advance.

Response to European sanction to Iran's banking and energy sectors, the government would no longer exports oil to European 6 countries. Europe accounts for 18% of Iran's crude exports. It would be painful for both sides. 

Dating back to cold-war, Iran declared anti-American and this attitude became clear when the US harbored fleers from Iran. The US has suspected nuclear development. Iran has belonged to IAEA and they reported it that nuclear development is only for peaceful use, such as nuclear energy plant. Certainly, enrichment uranium will lead to the power of nuclear plant, but if Iran accretes, it also will be a the warhead. the US president, Barak Obama, addressed, "they can think various means of suppressing Iran, if Iran promotes nuclear development for the war." That is, he suggested the possibility the war between the US and Iran. 

Besides the US, relationship between Iran and Israel has been tense. The former president Iran once addressed that they should get rid of Israel from the world map. Recently, a Iranian man was arrested as a suspect of explosion in Bangkok. He confessed that it was targeted at a Israel diplomat. Also in India and Georgia, explosion targeted at the Israel embassy frequently happened. The US wondered the Iranian government was in the back of  these affairs.

President Barak Obama assured Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping on Tuesday that the US welcomes the Beijing's rise in the world, offering a warm welcome despite the sharp difference over Syria, Iran and Economic policy. The US and China relationship is complicated and multi-facerated. They have the first and second largest economy and they are the most important trading partners each other. While Mitt Romney escalated his words like, "If I am chosen as a president, I would cut the budget for the UN, which supports Chinese barbaric one-child policy.", Obama keep a warm attitude toward China so as not to worsen the trade between two countries. He emphasizes the possibility of this meeting to improve the relationship, but many people seems not believe that. 

I just read the article of recent China written by Akira Ikegami today. I will show problems which I found in the following. 
Chinese high-speel railway is under construction and the distance is getting expanded more than 8000 kilometers. They pitched their techniques and how fast their train run. However, as you know, this indicated the unattainable development. Last year, the train crushed when it bumped with the train running ahead. Soon after that, Chinese government smashed up the tip section of the vehicle which included a speed meter and buried it into the land. Due to this accident, many people were killed and got injured, but China didn't try to lay out the fact because they just started the high-spead train service. Once we noticed Chinese arrogance over the accident, we were astonished and disappointed. 
China imported the techniques from other developed countries, such as Japan and Canada. As a matter of fact, trains crushed at the accident were made by these countries techniques. Kawasaki, Japanese vehicle corporation, allowed China to use their technique only in their own country. China, however, they now tries to resell it to other countries as if it were originally their own technique. They claimed they combined it with Canadian techniques, and created their own thing.

One of interview subjects told his drug use and tendency to twist the truth. Some of them whose names redacted in the file told Job's ethics could bend depending on the situation. 

Two former his employees said he has integrity as long as he get his way, although they nod the dead to his arrogance in dealing with other people. Jobs thought honesty and integrity were not required for the qualities and high-level political position. 
The mixed feelings of admiration and contempt that many people felt about Jobs come through in the report. He seems to have been a very complex. 

Besides Steve Jobs, great figures who achieved conceptual and innovative breakthroughs sometimes unique personalities. I don't feel like I want to work with him, but I'm still really into Apple stuffs.

Occupy Wall Street is current protest movement started in the Wall Street, New York. The protests are against social and economic inequalities. Their slogan is "We are 99%." They criticized growing the gap between the 1% wealthiest and the rest of population. At first, their movement called only for the improvement of financial policy by the US federal government. However, as the movement is getting bigger, their requirements are also getting broader. In many state universities, students occupy some parts of their campus and call for reduction of tuition. UW tuition is now getting higher and higher. International regular students have to pay about 30,000 dollar per year, though the number of them are rapidly rising - 11% of freshmen at UW is from China. 

This movement reminds me of Arab spring, the movement in Arab region calling for democracy. Technological development makes us to get together and speak out our voice to the nation. Many people are not interested in politics at all and they didn't believe change in the society by themselves. However, their thoughts are changing as the society does. Even if we don't have money enough to cause the action, we have the INTERNET.
