The hardest part is when you have to say goodbye and see you again. That is the time when you'd miss that person so much, realizing that you still have a long waiting time until your next meeting.

Another guest, and this time is from France

I was still on my bed when a message came in: "I'm boarding for Semarang from Singapore". It was from the French student who would came to my city for a research. I only had 2 hours before the plane landed. So I hurrily took a bath and went to the airport. It was in the morning, raining, and traffic jam was everywhere.

Thirty minutes before the landing-schedule, I already arrived at the airport. Had a quick breakfast and coffee at the Dunkin Donuts, while answering a couple emails. I had to wait another 30 minutes before Clement, that guy's name, came out from the exit gate.

He's a nice guy. Typical western youngster who would say everything directly. He's polite, but not overly polite, which is good for me who couldn't stand somebody who is too polite. And he seemed to know Indonesia pretty much. He even learned some Bahasa before coming. After taking him to meet some of my seniors, I took him to join the lunch party of my department. Well, it was a farewell party for my senior, and I was the host of the party. So while I couldn't leave either the party and my duty of taking care Clement, I just took him in. Everybody's happy, so it wasn't a problem, I supposed.

After lunch we went to the new apartment where he will stay for the next 5 months. The owners were great people, and they speak English well. I think it's good for him. Then, we went to shop and find him a new SIM card for his mobile phone. Everything went well. I hope it would be a good start for him.

Guests from Matsumoto, Nagano, Japan

These two days, we received guests from Matsumoto, Japan. It was very nice to finally hear Japaneses speaking Nihongo, after quite a long time! Really gave me the feeling of "natsukashii .."

The first thing we did after they landed in Semarang, Indonesia, was to take them for lunch. We took them to try "Soto Ayam", it's Indonesian-type chicken soup. They seemed to like it (that's good :D). The Soto Ayam came with many side dishes, such as fried Tempeh (soybean cake), Sate Ayam (kind of yakitori) and Kerupuk (kind of senbe). Apparently they were quite excited for Tempeh, because it something that is really "Indonesian", which you could hardly found anywhere else.

(This is how Soto Ayam looked like. Picture was borrowed from hellosemarang.com)

In the late afternoon, we took them for sightseeing around Semarang. Unfortunately, I did not join due to another tasks. It was my students who took them around, to Sam Po Kong (Historical Chinese Temple Site) , Lawang Sewu (Translated as the Thousand Doors, An . old historical building with European style which has soooo many doors), and the old city site of Semarang. If you are wondering how they are look like, you can Google it: D

Then, we had ...... DINNER! It is little rainy in the evening. Here is the menu, and their comments about the food (Well, actually the most being a come from 1 person, the one sat closest to me).

- Satay Ayam (kind of Yakitori), but this one was different than the previous. The satay ayam came with peanut sauce -> "oishii"

- Kepiting Lemuru (it's fried crab), came with sweet and sour sauce, but a little hot, so we did not recommend them to add the sauce -> "ii yo ... kore wa karai janai yo" Well, that's Quite surprising : D

- Urap (vegetable salad with coconut shreds) -> "this one is tooo hot"

- Sop Buntut (oxtail soup) -> "Oishiiiiiiiii ...." Seemed that they liked this one so much.

And there are many other dishes ... I forgot what were the rests. Oh, they also tried Jamu Beras Kencur, which is a kind of herbal drink from rice and lesser galangal. It has a unique taste, they said.

Well, that was the first day. I might write the second part tomorrow. :)

I have ever stayed for some years in Japan, still, it's hard to follow. I would be happy to have Others explain to me in Japanese how to work with this site. So far this is what I could do. :)
