Experts say it's going to be a banner year for ticks, and that can be bad news for anyone who plans on spending any time outdoors.

Michigan State University professor Howard Russell aka The Bug Man says he's been getting fake ray bans reports from all over the state, even the southern Lower Peninsula, of yards overrun by the insects.

Take a bath and wash your clothes. Within a couple of hours of coming inside, jump in the shower. There are a couple of reasons for this. First, it's easier to spot a tick when you're naked. Second, if a tick is on your clothes, a trip through a high heat dryer will kill it.

Do a tick check. Even if you've just been running around in your own yard, check yourself, your kids and your pets for ticks. Since ticks cannot transmit disease immediately it usually takes at least a day the earlier you find and remove them, the better. The best way to remove a tick is with tweezers. Grasp the tick as closely to your skin as possible and pull it away. Afterward, clean the area with antiseptic.

Virginia Tech ACC triple jump champion Hasheem Halim is ranked ninth out of 24 entrants at the NCAA championships.

The Virginia Tech sophomore has collected not one but two ACC championship rings. As a running back and return man, he helped the football team win the league title last fall. In February, he helped the men's indoor track and field team win its first ACC crown.

This week, he will cap his year by competing in the triple jump in the NCAA outdoor track and field championships. He hopes to do well enough at the meet to earn All America honors.

"That's my goal, to reach All American. And then in football season coming up, I have high expectations of myself to try to be an All American on the football field also," he said. discount fake oakleys

This is Wilson's second year on the track team, but the first time he has qualified for oakley sunglasses outlet the national championships in either the indoor or outdoor season. It took him time to not only refine his technique in the triple jump but to also figure out how to juggle two sports.

"Being a dual sport athlete is very difficult at this level," Tech director of track and field and cross country Dave Cianelli said. Wilson does have the desire. That's why he is not content to limit himself to football.

"Because in track and field, it's just you," he said. "You can't say, 'He didn't throw the ball far enough,' or 'I didn't get in the game.'

At George Washington High School in Danville, Wilson was a two time champ in the triple jump at the Nike Indoor Nationals.

Two months ago, he won the event at the prestigious Penn Relays with a jump of 51 feet.

"When you look at me, it [doesn't] look like I'm supposed to triple jump, especially because of my build," Wilson said. "Being a football player, I'm a lot thicker than a lot of my competitors and shorter in some cases. The average triple jumper is 6 foot, probably 170 [pounds] and here's me, 5 10, 205, trying to triple jump.
