Suwa Taisha Shrine is located in Kamisuwa, south of Lake Suwa. 

It’s one of the oldest shrines and known for Onbashira Festival (御柱祭) which takes place every six years.




The trees are magnificent; the one on the right which people are looking up is the largest tree of its kind in Suwa area.




Three pine trees worshipped by many.






The day I visited, there was a wedding ceremony. The music was holy and the mood was ceremonial.







There is a museum and a shop where you can purchase lucky charms for health, prosperity, good luck for entrance exam and etc.



Before entering the shrine, one should purify by rinsing one’s hands and mouth. This water fountain is particularly nice because it’s hot spring water, quite nice and warm!




Outside of the shrine, there is a sumo ring. 




There is usually a place where you can burn the old lucky charms or fallen leaves.




The smoke makes the scenery more dramatic!




There is a cafe just outside of the shrine. The architecture looks great and the view must be spectacular. I have not yet seen from inside, since it’s always closed every time I visit the shrine...

On one sunny autumn afternoon, I visited Art Studio Soyogo(アトリエ冬青、諏訪市) to experience plant dye. 

We used leaves from a tree in the garden. 






While boiling the leaves for about 20 minutes, I decided which fabric to dye and weighed it. Then soaked the material in warm water.





This is the fabric I chose: a silk scarf. 
My sensei, Mrs. Kitazawa provided an easy to understand written instruction.





When the leaves are boiled, we strained the water and soaked the wet scarves into the pot. It was boiling hot but the scarves had to be stirred continuously for about 20 minutes.



Then it was time to rinse them. 



After rinsing the fabrics throughly, they were dipped into a bucket of water with diluted iron which turn the color to dark grey. Again the scarves had to be stirred constantly to make the color settle evenly.




After about 20 minutes, the scarves were taken out, rinsed a couple of times and air dried in the shade. And it was ready to be worn!!

What a fun and beautiful experience!!

If you like Japanese classical movies, Chino station would be a good place to visit. 

There is a small museum of a movie director, Yasujiro Kozuka (小津安二郎).

There are many photos from his movies, posters, and artifacts displayed in a cozy setting. 









Adjacent to the museum, there is a bakery, perhaps the best one in Chino city. It’s a must try. They also serve healthy lunch.

Oreo cream crape!!! 
It was finger licking Gooood!!! Perhaps little too sweet for Japanese.




Mont  Blanc crape. Very seasonal and very tasty! 
At the bottom, it’s filled with surprising crunch peanut treats.

The shop closes without warning, so it’s better to call and confirm whether it’s open or not. I went there twice to find out the shop was closed even though Google map informed otherwise.

From Delhi airport we (a group of 11 Japanese) took a bus to Old Delhi station and from there rode an eight hour night train to Phathankot Cantt station. 



We arrived early in the morning and took a taxi to Dharamshala which took three hours on winding mountain roads.



The building behind me is the palace where Dalai Lama resides. His health doesn’t permit him to travel as much as before, thus people gather here from all over the world to listen to his teachings. 
No cameras or electronic devices are allowed except radios. His preachings are translated in many different languages to be transmitted to FM radio frequencies.


We visited one of many temples in Dharamshala.



This is the kindergarten at TCV, Tibetan Children’s Village. There are students from kindergarten to high school staying at boarding homes. The education level is quite high; kindergarten students study multiplication and all the students learn to speak at least three languages.
You can be a sponsor to a child and donations are always welcomed.



Dharamshala is located high up in the mountains and has spectacular views.



The day before teachings, we had to reserve seats. The spaces are limited and there are thousands of people attending. 
The teachings are spread out for three days, each day for three hours. On the first day, I was there at 6:45 to avoid big line up for body and bag checks. There are two lines, one for males and one for females. As you can guess, the line for female is much much longer. On the second day I was in the for more than 45 minutes.



As the Tibetans live peacefully with Indians, the respect for cows are strictly reinforced. 


I encountered many animals in Dharamshala.





You can experience Tibetan culture at Tibet World: story telling, dance, singing, language lessons and so on.

Hi!
Recently I moved to Chino city, Nagano, Japan 長野県茅野市) from Nagoya.
The air is so clean and cool and water is so fresh and delicious!
Chino city is located in the middle of main island of Japan. It’s accessible from Tokyo and Nagoya international airports. It takes about 3 hours by car or train.
The city is quite compact but very convenient with lots of shops and restaurants. The scenery is spectacular. There are many hiking trails and ski slops. And of course hot spring spas♨️
Culturally the city is known for Jomon era.
And it’s close to Suwataisha shrines⛩ and famous for festival called ‘Onbashira maturi御柱祭’
