The 94-year-old icon was hospitalized on Saturday. Two of Mandela's daughters and his former wife visited the hospital where Mandela is staying on Tuesday. President Jacob Zuma called Mandela's situation "very serious" but said he has stabilized.

Mandela, the leader of South Africa's anti-apartheid movement, spent 27 years in prison during white racist rule. He was freed in 1990, and then embarked on peacemaking efforts during the tense transition that saw the demise of the apartheid system and his own election as South Africa's first black president in 1994.

His admission to a hospital in Pretoria, the capital, is Mandela's fourth time being admitted to a hospital for treatment since December.

The California Science Center in Los Angeles, which now displays the space shuttle Endeavour, debuted itsFriday morning (May 31), featuring the silver Toyota Tundra pickup truck that helped deliver the massive orbiter to the museum last October.

The Giant Lever, which since 2003 has been exhibited in the science center's parking lot, invites visitors and in particular, children to use a tremendous purple lever to hoist a 6,645-lb (3,014 kilograms) truck into the air as a demonstration of the physics of leverage. The Giant Lever previously lifted an earlier model Toyota Tundra. []

Friday's unveiling wasn't the only "pickup" however, for the science center: Toyota Motor Sales, USA also presented the museum with a check for $401,300, the amount raised during a "tweet drive" leading up to the . The donated funds are expected to go toward the building of the shuttle's permanent home, the planned Samuel Oschin Air & Space Center, where Endeavour will be displayed vertically, mated with rocket boosters and an external fuel tank, as it looked when on the launch pad.

Tow truck

NASA retired thetwo years ago following its 25th and final flight into space, which ended with an early-morning landing on June 1, 2011. More than a year later, after making the orbiter safe to be displayed, the space agency ferried the vehicle to Los Angeles atop a modified Boeing 747 jumbo jet.

from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to the California Science Center in October 2012 was mostly accomplished atop a NASA overland transporter powered by four computer-controlled vehicles. However, there was a short, but pivotal, stretch of the journey where the transporters could not be used.

"One of the biggest [challenges] was crossing a bridge over the 405 interstate," Frank Dominy, a project engineer with the Sarens heavy lifting and transport company, told Air&Space magazine. "California doesn't allow the type of equipment we use, so we had to move the shuttle over to different equipment just to cross the bridge."

"That's where Toyota filmed a commercial they towed [Endeavour] across with their pickup truck," Dominy said.

Toyota, which prior to the tow extensively tested its truck to make sure that it was up to the job, used a stock 2012 Tundra CrewMax half-ton pickup, identical to the model it was selling at its dealerships. No additional modifications were made to increase the Tundra's towing capacity or to generate more power, company officials said.

Driving the Tundra for the tow and TV shoot was precision driver Matt McBride, who previously appeared in other ads for Toyota and in feature films.

McBride's passenger for the short drive was former NASA astronaut Garrett Reisman, who flew aboard Endeavour in 2008. On Friday, Reisman attended the Tundra's unveiling as part of the California Science Center's lever exhibit.

Toyota's advertisements featuring Endeavour ran in print and on TV soon after the shuttle rolled into its temporary home inside theat the science center. The car company included a new cut of the TV commercial as part of its post-show for the 2013 Super Bowl.

Toyota's participation transporting Endeavour continued a partnership between Toyota Motor Sales and the California Science Center to raise awareness of the space program and to educate the public through exhibits and programs.

In support of its role in Endeavour's museum delivery, the car company created a website where the public could get a look at the behind the scenes preparations for the towing and send re-tweets through Twitter promoting the move. For each tweet site visitors sent, Toyota announced it would donate $50 to the California Science Center, up to the first 10,000 tweets.

A total of 8,026 re-tweets were sent. Michael Rouse, vice president of diversity, philanthropy, and community affairs for Toyota Motor Sales, USA presented California Science Center president Jeffrey Rudolph with $401,300 as part of Friday's event.

Scarlett Johansson, who has hit other awards shows with a bombshell look, wore a menswear-style tuxedo jacket and a Saint Laurent black cocktail dress that had just a hint of leopard-print mesh at the neckline. LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Mark Burnett was a speaker at Produced By, where he spoke with Producers Guild of America National Executive Director Vance Van Petten on Sunday.

At the end of the panel, held in the Zanuck Theater on the 20th Century Fox lot in Los Angeles, Burnett spoke about his next move in the scripted television genre:

"Roma and I clearly will do a follow-up to The Bible.' No question about that. Something big. We also just finished re-cutting the Jesus part of The Bible'."

Burnett believes that in a few years more people on Earth will have watched "The Bible" series than have not.

"It's the most important story in the history of the world," Burnett said to the room of producers. "It's completely true...I know it's true....because I feel it in me."

The March 3 debut of "The Bible," Burnett's first scripted show, brought in 13.1 million viewers. The mini-series, which covers "Genesis to Revelation" in "one grand narrative," boasted ratings that steadily hovered above the 10 million U.S. viewers mark.

The March 31 closing episode brought in an average of 11.7 million viewers over the course of its two-hour finale. Last years "Hatfields & McCoys" mini-series is the only higher-rated series for History Channel, closing with 14.3 million viewers.

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - A rash of burglaries targeting stars like Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan by a group of fame-crazed teenagers stunned Hollywood, earning the group the catchy sobriquet "The Bling Ring."

These were criminals for the reality TV show age - a gang of club-goers, most too young to vote or drink, who stalked their B-list prey using Google maps and the internet. As icing on the cake, their thievery took place in and around Calabasas, Calif., the McMansion-filled seat of the Kardashian empire.

Of course, all good crime sprees must come to an end and this one concluded with prison time for ringleaders Rachel Lee and Nick Prugo. In a delicious piece of symmetry, one of the gang members, Alexis Neiers, was shooting the E! reality series "Pretty Wild" while her trial took place.

Reporter Nancy Jo Sales was on the scene nearly from the moment the teens were apprehended, writing one of the first in-depth accounts of their crime spree for Vanity Fair. She has turned that piece, "The Suspects Wore Louboutins," into a full-length book entitled "The Bling Ring," which is currently out in paperback.

Its release coincides with the debut of Sofia Coppola's film of the same name, which hits theaters on June 14.

TheWrap spoke to Sales about the costs of society's celebrity obsession, her thoughts on Coppola's film version of her work and why kids are awash in vacuous role models.

What drew you to this story?

You couldn't make this up. It had all the elements that spark media interest.

It was a story about people who were perceived as rich kids. It had Lindsay Lohan. I have an unofficial beat which is reporting on kids and I also focus on celebrity, so whenever those two things intersect, I get interested.

Do you think the story itself played out like a reality TV show?

Yes. There were throngs of reporters fighting to get into the court room with the court publicist acting like a nightclub bouncer. Plus in California everyone looks like on they're on a soap opera. The lawyers were acting like they were on a reality show. In fact, one of them actually did appear with Alexis. It was surreal. You'd see Alexis sitting with the crew of her reality show having her makeup put on before going in to get arraigned. When Alexis got put in a jail cell she was put right next to Lindsay Lohan.

Of all the members of the gang, Nick Prugo elicits the most sympathy in your telling. Do you think he was the Bling Ring member with the strongest moral compass?

I don't think that his moral compass was working all that well when he was committing burglaries, but he's a smart kid and he's had much more of an ability to examine his own behavior. He owned up and took responsibility for it. Alexis, for example, still claims she's innocent.

These kids were influenced by and emulated Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan, people who were better known for their legal troubles than their talent. Do you think having these kinds of role models is having a toxic impact on kids?

The media is reaching some kind of tipping point in terms of its obsession with celebrity culture. People like Paris used to be kind of funny, but at some point in the last decade it started not to be funny. We've been on a feeding frenzy where we were stuffing ourselves with bad food and now we need a vegan master cleanse.

What started out as a leak is now an oil spill and our culture is drowning in it. Kids are really impacted by it, because they don't have a filter to know who you should emulate and they're still figuring out what a role model is.

Also, the level of discourse around these stars made the kids feel like, "who cares if I rob these people? They're trashy and stupid."

But it was an incredible violation of someone's privacy and property. You read the grand jury testimonies of Orlando Bloom and Lindsay and they felt so violated. I never thought I'd feel so sorry for Paris Hilton, but these are real victims.

You say that the Bling Ring members were treated like stars when they were caught. Does that speak to how diminished stardom is today?

The very nature of celebrity is changing, because social media is breaking down the walls and there's a sense that anybody can become a celebrity now. Wasn't it Justin Bieber who was discovered on YouTube?

There's more freedom and opportunity and that's a good thing, but it can also be a bad thing because a celebrity's image and who they are as a real person somehow get blurred to the point where they get rewarded for exhibiting dysfunction.

I really feel like this Amanda Bynes moment we're having, with her tweeting all those pictures of herself in her underwear, is a continuation of the Bling Ring story.

Are there other cultural forces to blame beyond the changing nature of celebrity?

Definitely. There are a whole lot of crimes that people who are privileged are able to get away with. It goes all the way up to the top of the government where people at the time were breaking the law and nothing happened to them.

Look at the Bush administration, they were torturing people and giving away CIA agents' identities. I'm not sure the Bling Ring members were thinking "we're going to get away with this because George W. Bush got away with torture," but they know there is a different set of standards for the rich and powerful.

Do you like the way Sofia Coppola interpreted the story?

She did what great filmmaker does. She conveyed the milieu that we live in. She made some brilliant choices. There's this one moment in the film where all we see painted across the screen is the TMZ logo. With one stroke Sofia has said everything.

With cutting and editing, including lots of paparazzi and videorazzi footage, she makes the point that suddenly these kids and not the just the celebrities they robbed are the ones the paparazzi is chasing, so it becomes a dog eating the tail story.

Two violinists, a cellist and a viola player were aboard a flight that was delayed for three hours on the tarmac in Beijing on Friday. They took out their instruments and played an impromptu concert for the appreciative if captive audience. Several passengers whipped out smartphones and began recording as the orchestra played a selection from Dvorak's "American" string quartet.

The instrumentalists were greeted with cheers and applause as they wrapped up their five-and-a-half-minute performance.

A video of the quickie concert was posted online.

The ensemble recently launched a tour of China, 40 years after it became the first U.S. orchestra to visit the country.

On Saturday, Princess Madeleine the Duchess of Halsingland and Gastrikland will wed New York banker Christopher O'Neill in the Swedish capital, bringing together European royals and top New York socialites for a grand celebration.

Madeleine, 30, is the youngest of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia's three children and fourth in line to the throne. She became known as Sweden's party princess in her early 20s, when she was frequently spotted at Stockholm's high-end nightclubs, and has attracted widespread attention for her stylish clothes and glamorous lifestyle.

But her life hasn't always been a fairytale. In 2010, Madeleine fled to New York after breaking off her first engagement to Swedish attorney Jonas Bergstrom amid media reports that he had cheated on her. The couple had been together for eight years and had made a big announcement of their engagement in August the year before.

Since then, Madeleine has lived in New York, working for the nonprofit World Childhood Foundation, founded by her mother.

Two years ago, she met O'Neill, now 38, who works as a partner and head of research at Noster Capital.

This time around the princess has kept a lower profile, announcing their engagement through a video on the Royal Court's website.

Jenny Alexandersson, the royal reporter at Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet, says the breakup with Bergstrom had been "really, really hard" for Madeleine.

"She was really sad, and I think she felt a bit humiliated, "Alexandersson told The Associated Press." So, this time I really hope it's a big love. They look really, really happy together so I'm crossing my fingers for them."

The Royal Court on Friday said Madeleine's wedding dress has been made by Italian designer Valentino Garavani. Alexandersson said she expects a glamorous ceremony, adding that O'Neill has invited many friends from his party days among the New York glitterati.

The Royal Court said guests include the U.K.'s Earl and Countess of Wessex, Prince Edward and Sophie, Princess Takamado of Japan and princes and princesses from Norway, Denmark, Greece, Luxembourg and Monaco.

Other well-known invites include the CEO of fashion retailer H&M, Karl-Johan Persson, golfer Jesper Parnevik, Roxette singer Marie Fredriksson, Broadway's "Phantom of the Opera" star Peter Joback and Colombian billionaire Alejandro Santo Domingo.

Although Madeleine's wedding will be a lavish affair, it won't compare to her sister Crown Princess Victoria's marriage to her personal trainer Daniel Westling in 2010, when Stockholm was transformed into one giant party for citizens and royals alike.

Officials say that no side events for the general public have been arranged this time, but Swedes can watch the royal couple's meander through the capital in a horse and carriage after the wedding ceremony in the Royal Chapel. Then, the couple will sail to the royal residence and UNESCO World Heritage site Drottningholm Palace, 10 kilometers (6 miles) west of the city center, for a private wedding reception with an estimated 500 guests.

O'Neill was born into a wealthy family. His late father, Paul O'Neill, set up the European head office of Oppenheimer & Co in London in the 1960s and his mother, Eva Maria O'Neill, is involved in several charities. He studied at a boarding school in St. Gallen, Switzerland, and holds a bachelor's degree in international relations from Boston University and a master's degree from Columbia Business School in New York.

O'Neill, who holds dual American and British citizenship, has declined a royal rank in Sweden, which would have required him to become a Swedish citizen. He has chosen to continue working and the newlyweds are expected to move back to the United States.

The Swedish royal family has only ceremonial duties, such as attending award ceremonies, promoting Swedish businesses abroad and supporting charities. As the head of state, the king also receives foreign dignitaries on formal visits to Sweden.

The bombing was the latest strike in an intense insurgent campaign to hit both international and Afghan forces as foreign troops prepare to end their mission next year after 12 years of war. Foreign forces are increasingly turning over most security responsibility to the national police and army after training them.

Defense Minister Irakli Alasania cut short an official visit to Brussels on Thursday to travel to Afghanistan. A statement from the former Soviet republic's defense ministry said Alasania met with his Afghan counterpart, Bismillah Khan Mohammadi and visited troops wounded in the bombing.

Afghan official Mohammad Omar Zwark said a suicide attacker drove the truck into the entrance of the camp in Helmand province Thursday in Now-e-Zad district and detonated it.

"It was a huge truck full of explosives," Zwark said. "The blast was very strong."

The explosion at the outer wall caused a building inside to collapse, killing the Georgians, NATO spokesman Col. Thomas Collins said.

All seven killed were members of the same Georgian unit, which had been deployed in Afghanistan only since April, the country's defense ministry said.

Last month, three Georgian soldiers were killed in an attack at another Helmand base in Musa Qala district.

Known as a Taliban stronghold, Helmand has been the scene of some of this year's fiercest fighting, with local police frequently coming under attack by insurgents trying to grab back territory.

Thursday's bombing brought to 12 the number of international military personnel killed in Afghanistan this month, and the attack was the single deadliest incident this year for the coalition. On May 5, seven Americans and one German soldier were killed in a single day in three separate attacks.

Georgia, which has aspirations of joining NATO, has 1,545 troops serving in Afghanistan.

This week, countries in the NATO alliance met to lay out a new plan for ending their combat mission in about 18 months and shifting into a training and assistance role for the Afghan forces more than a decade after the U.S.-led invasion to oust the Taliban regime for sheltering al-Qaida's leadership after the Islamic extremist group launched the Sept. 11, 2011 terrorist attacks in the U.S.

NATO did not agree, however, how many noncombat troops it will maintain in Afghanistan after that a key unresolved question about how to help stabilize the impoverished, insurgency-wracked nation in the years to come.

NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said this week only that the total size of the noncombat mission force will be "significantly smaller" than the tens of thousands of U.S.-led troops in Afghanistan now, and that decisions about force numbers after 2014 will come later.

There are about 100,000 international troops in Afghanistan, including 66,000 from the United States. The U.S. troop total is scheduled to drop to about 32,000 by early next year. Most of the pullout is set for the winter.

In the wake of 2011's Fukushima nuclear disaster, Japan installed solar panels at such a furious rate that the small nation is quickly becoming the largest solar market in the world, at least in terms of revenue, .

After years of neglecting renewable energy in favor of atomic power, Japan should have the capacity by year's end to generate 13.5 to 16.8 gigawatts of solar energy that's the equivalent of five to seven nuclear reactors worth. (For context: One gigawatt is enough to power an estimated 250,000 homes.)

Behind the sudden solar explosion is something called a feed-in tariff, implemented following the earthquake and tsunami that forced the country to shut down its . Naoto Kan, the prime minister at the time whose ratings were in the gutter due to his perceived lack of leadership, implemented the plan as part of a suicide deal with the opposition party: If they passed a few bills, including the feed-in tariff, he'd resign.

Feed-in tariffs obligate utility companies to buy electricity from a renewable source at a fixed rate one that's artificially high to spur start-up investment.

Japan's rate is guaranteed over 20 years, and solar has the highest price tag above wind and geothermal at 37.8 yen (37.5 cents) to 42 yen per kilowatt hour. The price is twice that of Germany and France.

With solar suddenly in demand (by government fiat), entrepreneurial individuals and companies are installing solar panels by the dozens, says the , and utility companies are buying that extra energy to meet their quotas. In a helpful, illustration-heavy booklet,breaks it down like this:

In case of typical household with a 4-kw solar PV panel (that costs about 2 million at present) installed, the monthly electricity charge will be reduced from about 7,000 to 3,660 by using the electricity generated by the solar PV panel for the household. In addition, by selling the excess electricity generated by the panel, the household will be able to earn about 9,000. []

In spite of such opportunities, cost remains a big drawback of this forced solar boom. "Renewables are several times pricier than nuclear power or fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas," says . "The rising use of solar power means energy bills will spike, potentially complicating [the] plan to jump-start Japan's long-foundering economy." (For more on this Abenomics plan, .)

Furthermore, explains , "free market economists in general do not like feed-in-tariffs because they say these fixed pre-agreed prices distort the play of the electricity markets. Instead of allowing the best electricity provider to be the source, winners are pre-picked in this case, solar and wind farms." But there's a catch.

What critics do not mention is that the percentage of renewables compared to fossil sources like coal is so small that there is hardly an effect on price movement, and the intent is not to give all future renewable energy generators the feed-in-tariff, but only the first few investors to allow the renewable sector to jumpstart itself. This is somewhat akin to mixing a drop of expensive scotch with a barrel of cheap scotch, then claiming that the price of the blended scotch has risen significantly. []
