live up to ~ で ～に沿うとか～従う　みたいな意味です。

期待にそってとか、名前が意味するように生きる　と言った感じで使われます。

日本人の名前のようにたくさんの意味がこめられた言葉の通りに生きる

マドンナが

“I sometimes think I was born to live up to my name. How could I be anything else but what I am having been named Madonna? I would either have ended up a nun or this.”

と言っています。　マドンナの名前のように生きると。

He lived up to his mother's hope とかでも使えます。

live up to 名前が最もよく使われると思います！

星座のSiriusからきているようです。（暑い時期、蒸し暑い）

そこから派生して、Dog days で悪い日々。（bad days）とかunproductive な日も意味します。

主に暑いって時に使われます

It's so hot. it must be the dog days of summer

時々
These have been such dog days

のように使われますが、あまり使用しないかなと思います。

shake it off で、きにすんなよ！ 仕方ないよってな意味になります。


例えば

don't let it bother you. just shake it off

とか

I'm gonna shake it off で、忘れるわ！

ってな意味です。
