Six hundred students have been put at risk of HIV and hepatitis because a healthcare worker failed to followed correct clinical procedures. Past and present students at the University of Derby - who had either vaccinations or blood tests - have been advised to attend screenings for the infections to ensure they have not been infected. The advice was given after an investigation was opened into the safety of procedures carried out by a member of staff who was formerly contracted to provide services within the Occupational Health Service at the university. Experts at NHS England have said the actions of a healthcare worker put students at risk of HIV and hepatitis B and C. The worker involved failed to change the syringe barrels which needles are attached to between each patient. This oversight occurred over a period of eight years putting 606 asics gel shoes at risk.

The affected patients are those that were seen by the healthcare worker between September 2005 and October 2013. asics gel lyte v Shoe was great in terms of running comfort but within two weeks, the inside of the heels started ripping up. The fabric they used for the heels is really light and does not hold up. I had to return the ones from amazon, then purchased a pair from foot locker and had the same fabric issue with them. Foot locker gave me another pair but I am waiting to see how long the new pair will last. It sucks because I really like the Asics shoes and have been preferring them over Nike or Adidas pairs for comfort and stability reasons, however Asics has to really fix this defect/lack of quality with the heel fabric asap!

This shoe was recommended by an Employee at a Shoe store, after hearing about my knee problems ( Patella femoral ) . The best part about it was this was not a "generic sales pitch" since he did not have the shoes at store .So ordered online and am very happy with it. They are very comfortable and looks good as well. I am not a marathon runner ,but go to gym to do some moderate cardio and weights few days a week. This shoe is not going to cure my knee pains but certainly so far has not aggravated it (which my earlier shoe was doing).

My previous shoes was Brooks Men's Adrenaline GTS 11 Running Shoe which was good,but certainly not as good as this one.

MY SUGGESTION : If you are not in a hurry, prior model shoes of the same type ( ASICS Men's GEL-Kayano 19 Running Shoe in this case) goes on sale beginning black friday until new year. You are talking of a price break of fifty dollars or even more . Reminder of the year, the sale are superficial. When in doubt on the fit , go with wide shoes ( E or EE). You can always tighten it with laces if needed.

This was my Valentine's Day gift for my husband. He loves 'em! They're really comfortable and he's been wearing them everyday since he got them. Totally worth it!

Now, I'm thinking of getting one for myself!!!

Just make sure that you know your right size as Onitsuka leather and canvas fits differently. My husband wears a 9.5 with leather and a size 9 for non-leather or canvas. :)

This is my second pair of asics gel shoesa and I totally love them.... they are very comfortable! Be careful when ordering your size because they run big.... I'm normally size 12 but with both my Tiger shoes I wear size 11 1/2, which is half an inch smaller than my usual size. Can't beat with amazon's pricing and free 2nd day shipping as a Prime member.

I love my new sneakers. They are stylish and just what I was looking for. I used the scale provided for sizing and determined my size to be about a 9. I ordered 9.5 just in case. It turned out that they are a .5 size too large. I kept them since I like wearing heavier socks. In the future I will order 9. I am very pleased with costumer service and the promptness of response to all of my questions.

M990 "Heritage" is not the quality shoe New Bala

Amazon Prime's service was great as usual but I'm sad to report the M990 "Heritage" is not the quality shoe New Balance used to make.

I've been buying the 990 series for 23 years, same size, same width. This "new improved" shoe is off poor quality, appears they've skimmped on materials, put some annoying plastics on the tongue, made everything thinner (cheaper) and some "efficiency expert" convinced them that if they shorten the shoe laces, every 20 pairs they sell they'll save one shoelace. The laces are too short to properly lace and tie. They are so thin I'm guessing I'll break them before I put my 6 months and miles on them. Running today in my old ones, side by side I can see the 990 is definitely junk.

I appreciate asics gel lyte v brazilbeing made in America. I'd rather have the price go up than the product turn inferior. They might as well be made in China, they seem like a cheap cost concious shoe rather than quality running shoe. I buy new shoes every 4-6 months, will definitely NOT buy these again and may have to say goodbye to 23 great years of New Balance.

I'm saddened that the first review I've chosen to write in ten years of asics gel shoeshad to be a warning about a product I loved and have purchased yearly for decades.

All the positives posted in other reviews about the amazing fit and comfort are true: but this shoe -- and some other New Balance models -- have a dark side: a powerful, repugnant smell that seems guaranteed to emerge after the shoe gets wet.

For the past two years I've been battling with a mystery: my family and coworkers have complained unabashedly about the smell of cat urine coming from my New Balance 990's (and the 993's before this model). I could smell it, too, and it was so powerful that I had to leave the shoes in another part of the house. I had assumed, since I do have indoor cats, that they had somehow decided to use my shoes as a litter box. Strange behavior for female spayed cats, but OK -- what else could it be.

I tried all manner of enzymatic cat urine cleaners and deodorants -- NOTHING worked. So I bought NEW shoes and vowed to keep them away from any place the cats could get to -- including never leaving them outside where outdoor cats might find them.

Amazingly -- the smell came back! I finally figured that I must have gotten cat urine from neighborhood cats on them while watering the garden. I purchased ANOTHER new pair, and this time waterproofed them and avoided taking them out into my garden area.

BUT -- the smell returned AGAIN! After trying the usual round of cat de-stinking chemicals, I was at a New Balance store and happen to ask about washing them. The experienced assistant manager GUESSED: "Oh, do they smell like cat urine?" I was STUNNED! He explained that it's a known problem with a polyurethane component in the sole breaking down and/or rotting due to exposure to water. The smell is due to the release of ammonia.

I could hardly wait to do a Google search -- and I could hardly believe my eyes: hundreds of postings about the VERY SAME SMELL -- from people who, like me, had been convinced it was related to feline tinkling -- many that didn't even have cats. The stories were strikingly similar: only by chance had these other consumers stumbled upon the information that the smell was a manufacturing defect, one that New Balance had been aware of for a couple of years. In many cases, New Balance had done the right thing and replaced the shoes, but also had informed consumers that the problem had been "corrected". This does NOT appear to be true: I purchased these shoes in May, and by July they had already started to smell horrible from the soles getting wet.

Tomorrow I'll be speaking with New Balance. While I'm confident they'll replace the shoes, I doubt I'll get any definitive answers as to what model shoe to purchase to avoid the problem in the future. I will absolutely buy from New Balance again, but only once I've been able to determine the issue has been corrected.

CAT URINE SMELL ISSUE UPDATE (10-29-13):

When I spoke with onitsuka tiger mexico 66 on 9-3-13, they acknowledged the problem, and issued me a credit for their on-line store, but frankly stated that the issue "was not fixed yet".

HOWEVER, I just got off the phone with New Balance's consumer line, and I've been informed that the issue IS NOW FIXED for the 990. The 993 had a similar problem that was supposedly also fixed, but then the cat urine smell issue cropped up again for that shoe.

I was told that "every new 990 is made with new materials" and they haven't heard of a recurrence of the cat urine smell issue with the new 990's -- yet. There are no manufacturing dates that are easily accessible, so there is no way to be sure if you are getting a "new" 990 or not. Perhaps Amazon does so much business that they would likely have new stock. Similarly, I would expect the New Balance web store to be a reliable (if perhaps more expensive) place to get a new 990.

New Balance has no plans to make any public statement about the correction, for fear of alarming people who have never run into the issue.

I have no doubt that if the problem crops up again, asics gel lyte v brazilwill surely replace my shoes again. So I will buy another pair without fear. But if I smell cat urine again, I will certainly be "pissed" -- and may write a formal letter to Consumer Reports.

asics kinsei 5 not good as old style kinsei 4

I Have all the USED and Asics gel Lyte v Brazil in its Evolution and I Opine That this HAS Been true until the KInsei 5. Whilst Asics Claims to Have Advances made in this new model, I would Like to disagree from a number of points.

. Kinsei 3 and 4 had upper material that kept your feet cool in the summer and warm in the winter I tried that Kinsei 5 on a very chilly morning and noticed immediately that the new FluidFit material does not afford such benefits - for the first time in years my feet have had to adapt to the natural temperatures -.. and that is a huge negative for me I have resorted back to my extra pair of new Kinsei 4 for the winter FluidFit might be a technological leap for Asics but I see it as a step back, as my feet eventually adapt to any running shoe.

The under sole of Kinsei 5 has less grip than its predecessors 3 and 4 and that has probably been forsaken for the benefit of a lighter shoes -. From a weigh perspective that is The guidance line has been redesigned and is less pronounced and I can feel this when I am running.

I Have Also Noticed That Asics gel Shoes Does not Have strong reflective Properties Compared to the 3 and 4 and this IS Perplexing as I Always Run very early in the Morning and need Those reflective Properties to warn the frequent vehicles of my presence. Asics HAS Always been strong on safety and so I am concerned by this glaring omission.

The laces of the Shoes Are too long and I Wonder why this WAS not Discovered and corrected as I would prefer not to Have Excess Lace Material hitting Against my Shoes and distracting me in my Runs
I do the Judge Kinsei 5 to BE a comfortable running Shoe but no more so than its immediate predecessor and I believe that Kinsei 4 still remains the benchmark for the Kinsei range.

A step backwards?

I'm always hesitant ordering asics shoes online, because I never seem to find a consistant size that fits. After checking out all the local shoe stores and not finding anything that either fit my feet or my budget, I decided to take a chance on these since I could always send them back if they didn't fit well. I had tried on a few pairs of DC shoes in stores, so I knew to try a half size larger. I'm very pleased to say that they not only fit great, but they look and feel great too! Just keep in mind that they are skate shoes. You will definitely feel fatigue when walking long distances in them since they don't have a ton of cushion in the soles. All in all though, they are pretty great. They are now my everyday asics running shoes.
