LOS ANGELES CBS has renewed three freshman dramas for the 2015 16 season: "NCIS: New Orleans," "Madam Secretary" and "Scorpion." Ryan Pickett Jersey

The move is an indication of CBS' faith in its current drama heavy schedule. CBS Entertainment chairman Nina Tassler confirmed the pickups Monday as part of her presentation at the Television Critics Assn. press tour. All three shows hail from CBS TV Studios.

Tassler also announced a Sept. 8 premiere date for Stephen Colbert's debut as David Letterman's successor on "The Late Show." Letterman is set to sign off on May 20. Tassler said CBS would likely run repeats of its primetime series during the interim period.

"I have nine months to make a show, just like a baby.

Renewed are "Arrow," "The Flash," "Jane the Virgin," "Reign," "Supernatural," "The 100," "The Vampire Diaries" and "The Originals."

"Each of these series have helped define what the CW is today, a network that is home to smart, provocative, quality programming, targeting a savvy, adult audience," said CW prexy Mark Pedowitz. "By picking up these shows now, our executive producers can start planning next season's storylines, and rolling these shows out throughout next season guarantees the CW will have more proven original series for our fall, midseason and summer 2016 lineups."

Even now, on the 20th anniversary of the "Miracle at Michigan," former Colorado coach Bill McCartney says he can't stop smiling.

It could be called the "Silence at the Stadium" for the crowd's reaction after watching Colorado quarterback Kordell Stewart's 64 yard bomb land in Detroit native Michael Westbrook's arms for the game winning score.

More than 70 yards in the air, it traveled from 26 21 Michigan to 27 26 Colorado in one wild, permanent moment, forever immortalized on the cover of Sports Illustrated.

For McCartney, a College Football Hall of Famer and 1990 national championship winning coach, it was everlasting.

"It comes up, it doesn't go away, and the joy of it doesn't go away either," McCartney said this week. "It's one of those things that has a special place in our memory, and Colorado will always embrace that. I'm sure when I'm long gone and I've passed away, they'll still remember that game."

McCartney was excited to be returning to Michigan Stadium the "Big House" moniker took hold later where he served as a U M assistant under Bo Schembechler in 1974 81, hired straight out of a stint winning football and basketball state titles at Dearborn Divine Child.

His athletic director scheduled the game without his input, and McCartney was thrilled when it finally arrived.

"What you always talk about, in that situation, the defensive backs have to make sure they disrupt the routes and don't let guys go completely unscathed down the field," then U M defensive line coach (and current U M defensive coordinator) Greg Mattison said this week. "The second thing you talk about is you've got to get a three man rush, you have to make the quarterback throw. At halftime, we hit the quarterback, and we knocked one of the receivers almost out of bounds."

So the Wolverines went to the locker room pleased to have solved the Hail Mary.

Yet after the Wolverines exploded for 17 third quarter points and took a 26 14 lead into the final quarter, the Buffaloes had to rally. They scored with just more than 2 minutes left to make it a five point game but didn't know if they would get another chance.

But they did. And on the final play, Stewart let it fly.

"I can remember that as if I was standing there 10 minutes ago I'll never forget that as long as I live," Mattison said. "The last play of the game when that happened, we didn't really get pressure on the quarterback and we didn't touch anybody. It was like everybody was like, 'OK, let's get this one over with.' That one will be something you remember as long as you live. Every time I see that on one of those replays, I go: 'That hurts.' But I'll always remember that play."

"I think what the social development committee and poverty reduction group are looking for by asking the city to sign on to the charter is an acknowledgment that poverty reduction is important going forward for the community, for the Columbia Basin and for Canada as a whole," she said. Rivers said he also needed to simplify the offense for the second unit to help it become more effective under Farmar's direction.

"That's an area I didn't anticipate them struggling in," Rivers acknowledged. "Sometimes that's not on Jordan; it could be somebody else in the unit with him."

Farmar's difficulties could make the Clippers contemplate keeping Cunningham for the rest of the season. His league minimum contract becomes fully guaranteed Jan. 10.
