Waaia playing coach Greg Meyland successfully appealed two weeks of his eight week Picola District Football League suspension in Melbourne on Monday night.

Meyland was handed an eight week suspension by the PDFL independent tribunal for two charges of unbecoming conduct on June 4.

The charges related to two separate incidents during the May 10 clash between the Bombers and Katunga, one which left Greg Joinbee with a broken jaw and another which involved Swans player Oliver Small.

Meyland originally received six weeks for the Joinbee incident and another two for the Small incident, prompting an appeal from the Bombers coach.

Two kids at a daycare in Palatine, a northern suburb of Chicago, have confirmed cases of the disease and three others are showing symptoms.

Those cases have parents and doctors on alert here in Wisconsin.

"The more stories you hear about it, the more nervous you get," said Joel Webber, who has a 2 year old son, Rhodes.

Webber says the measles outbreak is definitely on his radar and Rhodes is up to date on vaccinations.

"For his sake and for the sake of the children around him as well," Webber said.

But young kids, like Rhodes, only have the first of two shots in the measles, mumps and rubella series. The second MMR shot is typically given between ages four and five.

"The first dose does provide some good immunity to measles, usually about 97 percent effective for providing some level of immunity," said Dr. Nicole Baumann Blackmore, a pediatrician at Meriter Hospital. "The second dose bumps it up to about 99 percent."

Dr. Baumann Blackmore says she encourages parents to vaccinate, but in Wisconsin you can opt out for religious, philosophical or medicine reasons. According to the CDC in the 2013 2014 school year, 4.9 percent of kids starting kindergarten were not vaccinated. The sixth highest of any state in the country that year. "You worry about clusters of people who aren't gonna vaccinate their kids, potentially creating that hazard," he said.

Dr. Baumann Blackmore says while it's typically recommended to get the second MMR shot between ages four and five, you could get it sooner in light of the outbreak. She says it just has to be at least 28 days after the first shot, and it's a decision parents should make with their child's doctor.
