私は、この方法がわからなくて、本当に苦労しました。窓口で聞いてもよくわからず、結局あまり定期区域外に行かないので、その時は定期区域が切れる駅で降りて、チケットを買いなおすなんていうとても非効率的なことをしていました。

ようやく最近、はっきりとやり方がわかったので、まだやり方を知らない方と、自分の為にここに記録しておきます。

定期があるときに、定期区域外に行く時のチケットの買い方。以下の例は、「フランクフルト市内(空港含む)」の定期をもって、行先を「Büdesheim」にした時の例です。チケットの機械は英語表示にしました。

１．「Place Name」で、自分の行先を検索

２．検索できたら、「Connecting Trip to Seas」を選択

３．自分が持ってる定期の区間を選択。(フランクフルト市内の定期だと、PS03)

４．そうすると、定期の分が割引されたチケットの金額が表示される

日本では定期として使うカードに入金もできて、その入金した金額から自動精算もしてくれてとても便利ですが、ドイツはこういったものはないようです。

ドイツは色々なことにおいて最先端なイメージがありますが、電車のシステムなどはまだ改善の余地が大いにある気がしてなりません。

This time I write about how to buy a train ticket in Germany (when you go to the area which is not covered by your monthly pass).

I didn't know how to do this and really struggled. My Germnan was too bad to understand what the ticket desk staff said. I rarely went outside of my montly pass area, so what I was doing was, to get off at the station where was covered by the montly pass, and bought another ticket from there(so inefficient...).

However, I've finally figured out how to do it recently, so I'll record it here for those who don't know how to do it yet.

How to buy tickets when you go to the area which is not covered by your monthly pass. The following is an example when the destination is "Büdesheim" with a montly pass in "Frankfurt (including airport)". The ticket machine is in English.

1. Search for your destination by "Place Name"

2. After searching, select "Connecting Trip to Seas"

3. Select a montly pass section that you have. (If it is a pass in Frankfurt, PS03)

4). Then, the price of the discounted ticket is displayed

In Japan, you can top up your montly pass, and it automatically caluculates the amount you need to pay when get off, but the systme in Germany does not seem to have such a system.

Germany gives a pretty advanced society image, but I feel there is still a room for improvement in the train system.

主な活動場所は岩手県の陸前高田市、大船渡市で、活動内容はアロマのマッサージを通して、心のケアをすることです。

本市の犠牲者数は、人口 24,246 人に対し 1,757 人（行方不明者含む。）であった。

津波による被災世帯数は、全 8,069 世帯のうち 4,063 世帯（50.4%）に達した。被災 世帯数の 93.6%となる 3,801 世帯が全壊であった。

地震による被災世帯数は、全 8,069 世帯のうち 3,967 世帯（49.1%）に達した。被災 世帯数の 99.4%となる 3,943 世帯が一部損壊であった。

 地震と津波により本市の全世帯の 99.5%が被害にあった。

8年間続けてきたCocoroのチャリティー活動が、今回で最後となるとのことで、私もセラピスト兼通訳として、現地に足を運ばせて頂きました。Cocoroの活動は、外部の人間がボランティアに行くだけではなく、活動当初はアロママッサージの施術を受けていた側の現地の方達が、今度はセラピスト側になって、現地のサポートを現地の方が行うという形にシフトしていきました。身内の方をなくしたり、家も車も丸ごと流されたりした現地の方達が、復興の為、心の傷を負った方たちのケアの為に活動を続けてきました。

今回は旅立ちの会として、私はセラピストとして現地の方々にフルボディの施術をすることから始まりました。私が施術した方の一人が、次の日にお会いした時に、「普段はほとんど寝れないけど、マッサージのおかげでよく寝れた」と言ってくれて、私にも何かできることがあって良かったと思いました。

また、現地の方に街の様子を見に連れて行って頂き、復興した場所、まだまだ復興していないところを見てきました。その際に、私達が現地に到着する数日前にオープンした「東日本大震災津波伝承館」を見学することもできました。

街を案内してくれた方の一人が、当時の事を語ってくれたのが、とても心に残っています。その方は、津波発生時、お子さんを学校に迎えに行き、帰宅途中でした。大きな灰色の壁が近づいてくるのを見た瞬間、「死ぬ！」と思い、お子さんの手を掴み、電信柱や建物が一つ一つ灰色の壁に飲まれ、沈んでいくのを背中に、全力で高台へと走りました。

家と車、そして家にいた親も、津波に流されてしまい、安置所となった体育館で、お子さんの目を隠しながら、親を捜し歩きました。そこには、腕や足がなくなっていたり、顔が赤くなったり黒くなってしまったご遺体があったとのことです。

また、津波発生してから数日、自衛隊の助けがくるまで、電気も水もない状態となったとのことで、震災にあった時に本当に必要となるものを教えて頂きました。水がとても貴重となるので、いかに水を使わないように過ごせるかがポイントとのことで、以下の点を学びました。

－サランラップ : お皿にラップをかければそのお皿を洗わずに何度も使える

－おりものシート : 同じパンツを何回もはける

－電気に頼らないシンプルな作りの製品:  オール電化の製品は電気がないと役立たず

私は、このチャリティーを通して、本当に多くのことを学ばせてもらいました。忘れてはいけない、体のケア、心のケア、そして命の尊さについて。この学んだことを自分の人生の糧として、色々と学ばせてくれた、全ての関係者に感謝し、しっかりと生きていきたいと思います。

This time, I will write an activity report of "Cocoro earthquake free aroma charity".

This Cocoro Charity is a voluntary organization established to support those affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011. (http://cocoroaromacare.blog.fc2.com/blog-entry-4.html)

The main activities are held in Rikuzentakata City and Ofunato City in Iwate Prefecture, and the activities are physical and mental care through aroma massage.

(1) Human damage

The number of casualties in the city was 1,757 (including missing persons) for a population of 24,246.

(2) Damaged households

The number of households affected by the tsunami reached 4,063 out of 8,069 households (50.4%). 3,801 households, 93.6% of the affected households, were completely destroyed.

The number of households affected by the earthquake reached 3,967 out of 8,069 households (49.1%). Some 3,943 households, or 99.4% of the affected households, were partially damaged.

 99.5% of all households in the city were damaged by the earthquake and tsunami.

Cocoro's charity activity, which has continued for 8 years, would be the last one, so I went to the local area as a therapist and interpreter.

Cocoro's activities are not only for outsiders to volunteer, but the local people who were receiving aroma massage at the beginning of the activity are now therapists and supporting other locals.

Local people who have lost their relatives or have their homes and cars washed away, have continued to work for the recovery of those who have been injured.

This time, I started from giving full body treatment for locals as a therapist. One of my clients came to me the next day and said, “I can  hardly sleep normally, but I slept like a baby yesterday thanks to the massage.” It made me very happy, to feel that even I could do something.

Later, local people took us around to see the city so that we could see the reconstructions and the places that have not yet been reconstructed. At that time, we were able to visit the “Great East Japan Earthquake Tsunami Museum” which opened a few days before our arrival.

One of the locals told us about her stroy, while we were visiting the area. When the tsunami occurred, she went to fetch her child from school and was on her way home. As soon as she saw the big gray wall approaching them, she thought "I'm gonna die!". She grabbed her child's hand and ran all the way up the hill. Telegraph poles and buildings were swallowed by the tsunami one by one and were sinking behind her.

Her house, her car, and her father who was at home were also swept away by the tsunami. She went to a school gymnasium which served as a temporary morgue, to find her father. There were corpses that had lost their arms and legs, or had their face turned red or black. She covered her child’s eyes and kept walking.

She also told us there was no electricity or water until they got the Self-Defence-Force's help. Since water is very valuable under these circumstances, I learned the following advice as to how to avoid using water.

-Clingfilm: If you wrap the plate, you can use it many times without washing it

-Pantyliner: you can wear the same pants many times

-Simple products that do not rely on electricity: All electric products are useless without electricity

I learned a lot through this charity. The importance of body care, mind care, and never forget the preciousness of life. I would like to thank all the people who helped me to learn those things, and live my life with all my might.

前回までのブログで書きましたが、私はキプロスからの転職でドイツに来ました。

私はドイツ語が全くできなかったので、仕事は英語と日本語でできる役割を与えて頂きましたが、オフィスには勿論ドイツ語で電話がかかってきます。とりあえず仕事を回す為、「誰と話したいですか？」「今担当者は不在なので、折り返し電話します」などといったドイツ語の一文を丸覚えして電話を担当者に回すのですが、相手のドイツ語の返事は勿論定型文ではない為、聞き取れずに結局困るという状態でした。その為、電話に出るのを怯える日々で、オフィスで唯一ドイツ語ができない人間として、常に恥を感じる日々を送っていました。

仕事は、さすが旅行業界、ピークの季節に入社したのもあり、業務量が多く、覚えるまで本当に苦労しました。その理由の中に、私が割り当てられた業務を担当していた方が、私が入社した時に既に会社にいなくて引継ぎ等がなかった事や、本社(ロンドン)に以前いたので、担当業務は全く素人レベルにも関わらず「経験者」の立場となってしまい、プレッシャーとなっていた事があります。しかしどの仕事でも、慣れるまでは大変なのが当たり前なので、とにかく自分のタスクを把握できるようになるまで辛抱だと自分に言い聞かせ、仕事に集中しました。

半年ほど経って、ようやく自分の役割をこなせるようになったのですが、それと同時に業務割り振りの再構築が行われ、私の脳内仕事スケジュールが崩れます。私は不安がとても大きかった為、マネージャーに対して、この新しい試みへの反対意見を出したのですが、私一人が反対しても何の影響力もなく、早速各業務ごとに3人制のチームが作られました。私のチームは、人材手配ならびに個人旅行を主に担当し、チームメンバーはベルリン、ミュンヘンに各1人ずつ居たスタッフの方でした。

人材手配に関しては、そもそも私が最初から担当していた業務だったので、慣れてきてからはやりがいや楽しさやを感じられるようになり、自分なりの業務を通しての目標も定めていました。しかし新しく追加された業務に関しては、自分のチームメンバーが近くにいなく、コミュニケーションが思うように取れなかった事も起因し、毎日のようにミスを犯していました。また、ドイツ語ができない事でより業務に支障をきたすようになり、今後のドイツ生活に対して考えるようになりました。

そして、様々な視点から将来について考えた結果、仕事を変える決断をしました。なぜなら、私は、ドイツで仕事をしていくには、やはりドイツ語ができた方がよいこと、その為には集中して語学を勉強したく、勉強する時間が必要と思ったからです。この旅行会社にいながら語学学校に通うことも考えましたが、ロンドン時代と同じく、24時間対応の緊急業務があった為、その選択肢はなくなりました。

自分の為に、会社を辞める決断をしてしまいましたが、ドイツ語ができないにも関わらず私をドイツに呼んでくれたこの会社には、今でもとても感謝しています。そして、人材手配担当でしたが、見本市での通訳の仕事を自分でやらせてもらったりし、本当にいい経験になりました。

次回からは、ドイツ生活での体験談（語学の勉強、生活、アーティスト活動など）について書いていきたいと思います。

This time I would like to write about my work in Germany.

As I wrote in my previous blog, I came to Germany as I got new job offer.

Since I couldn't speak German at all, I was given the role that I could do only in English and Japanese.  However, there were telephone incoming calls in German at the office as it could easily be expected. In order to forward the phone calls to the person in charge, I learned a few German sentences such as "Who would you like to talk to?" "He/She is not at the desk right now, he/she will call you back".  Although I could say these sentences in German pretty well, I was still very afraid to pick up the phone, because the replies from the other sides were not fixed sentences that I learned. I was always feeling ashamed, as I was the only staff in the office, who could not speak German.

As it was the peak season when I joined this travel agency, there were tons of work. I had such a tough time in the beginning, because the person in charge of the work I was assigned to was not in the company anymore when I got to Germany. Also, I was treated as an “experienced” staff regardless of the amateur level of the new task, as I was previously working at London office (Head office). I was telling myself to be patient until I could grasp my task, as I know that, it is always hard to get used to any new environment.

About half a year later, I was finally able to manage my task. But at the same time, the new manager decided to restructure the whole work allocation. I already had my own work plan in my head, but it all became nothing. As I was very anxious, I went to talk to my manager so that I could  give my thoughts about this, but it didn't change anything at all. The teams were formed immediately. My team was mainly responsible for human services and individual trips, and the team members were one person each in Berlin and Munich.

Arranging human services was the role that I was assigned from the beginning. After I got used to the task, I was able to enjoy it and felt it was rewarding. I was setting my own goals how I wanted to be through my work. However, for the newly added work, I was making many mistakes. Since my team members were not in the same office,  I could not communicate with them as much as I wanted to. Besides, being unable to speak German was adding more problems on my new task. I started re-considering about how I wanted to live my life, if I stayed in Germany.

As a result of my consideration about the future from various perspectives, I decided to change my job. In order to work in Germany, it would be better to be able to speak German. And to that end, I needed some more time so that I could study language intensively. I thought about going to a language school while working at this travel agency. However, it seemed infeasible, as there was a 24-hour emergency service same as in London that I had to take.

Although I took a decision to leave the company for my future, I was very grateful to the company that asked me to come to Germany even though I couldn't speak any German. I especially enjoyed working as an interpreter at the trade fair, thanks to my manager who let me assign myself for this work.

Next time, I would like to write about my experiences in German life (language study, the life, my artist activities, etc).

書道を始めたのは、6歳の時でした。その理由は、私の祖母にあります。

私の祖母は書道家で、私の家族は皆、強制的に書道を習う宿命にありました。物心ついた頃から、私の実家では書道教室が開かれ、祖母が先生として私達姉弟と、地域の子ども達に書道を教えていました。

私は小学生の時に、学生の部で特待生まで達し、そのまま成人の部に入り、「楷行草」の練習を開始しました。しかし、14歳－15歳頃に、書道に対する忍耐・モチベーションが切れ、他の子ども達と同様に、書道を辞めてしまいました。

その後、書道に触れなかった高校時代を経て、大学生になってから、今度は自分の意志で書道を再開することになります。そのきっかけは2つありました。

まず一つ目は、大学時代に、音楽をやっている流れで、「元暴走族で今は歌手」というシンガーソングライターに出会ったことです。その人は自分のプロフィールに「書道師範」と記載し、自作の書道でCDをデザインしていました。それは見た私は、『かっこいい！！』と思い、いつか私も自分のプロフィールに「師範」と書き、自分の書道でデザインをしたいと思いました。

そして二つ目は、書道家の祖母を経済的に援助するというのが目的でした。書道は私の祖母の人生の一部であり、ビジネスでもありました。私は、自分が祖母の元で書道を再開することで、離れて暮らしている祖母とのコミュニケーションが自動的に増え、更に月謝を支払うことで経済的にサポートすることもできるのが、一石二鳥だと考えました。

さて、私の所属している書道協会は、試験があるなしに関わらず、一か月に一度は作品を提出するというのが決まりで、毎月課題にされる書と、自由選択の書の2作品を提出し続ける必要がありました。その為、日本を出てからは、課題の書をメールにて送信してもらい、自分の作品を日本へ国際郵便で送るといったこと毎月続けました。この作業は、特にキプロスにいた時は、締め切りまでに書が日本に届くかどうかとても不安でしたが、意外と大きな問題なくやりきる事ができました。

昇級試験についてですが、私の所属する書道協会では、位(教範、師範格など)が上がっていくにつれて昇級試験の頻度が下がっていき、最終的に昇級の機会は一年に一度という状態になります。ただでさえ多くの問題に遭遇する海外生活の中で、年に一度しかない試験で落ちた時には本当に落ち込んだりしました。また、更に転職で国を変えて、生活自体が落ち着いていなかった時には、何度か書道を辞めようと思った時もありましたが、両親が私を説得してくれて、継続することになりました。

そして、色々な人のサポートを得て、ようやく2018年に、晴れて「師範免許」を取得することができました。

大学時代に書道を再開した際に私が設定した目標は、引退して(60歳過ぎ位)から、まったりと書道教室をやってくという、なんとも長い目で見た目標でした。しかし、海外に住み始めてからは、外国人の友達に書道を教えたり、ボランティアやイベントで書道を活用する機会が増えたこともあり、この日本を代表する伝統文化の一つである書道を、もっと多くの外国人に知ってもらい、日本の文化を好きになってほしいと願うようになりました。

何かを一所懸命やって、結果が思うように出ないときは、自分がやっていることが意味のないことに感じたり、いっそのこと辞めてしまいたいと思うことがあります。しかし、「継続は力なり」という言葉を自分に証明する為にも、私は達成したいと願うことを、これからも諦めずに続けていきます。

I started calligraphy when I was six years old. The reason was my grandmother.

My grandmother was a professional calligrapher, and all my family were forced to learn calligraphy by her. Since I was small, my grandmother's calligraphy class was held in my house. My sibling and the local kids were learning calligraphy.

When I was in primary school, I reached to the highest level for student section, and started  "Kai Gyo So (3 different font for chinese letters)". However, at the age of 14/15, my patience and motivation for calligraphy ran out, and I quit calligraphy like other children.

After going throgh high school days that I did not do calligraphy, I decided to start calligraphy again with my own will this time. There were two reasons.

One of the reasons was, while I was doing music activity, I met a singer-songwriter who was "A former gangstar but now a singer". He described himself as "Calligraphy Master" in his profile and designed a CD with his own calligraphy.

I felt, 'Wow, this is so COOL!!', and I would like to put "master" on my profile and make a design with my own calligraphy one day.

The another reason was to provide financial support to my grandmother, as well as increasing communication between us. Calligraphy was part of her life and also a business. I thought, learning calligraphy from her was like 'kill two birds with one stone', as it would automatically increase our communication while she lived away, and support her financially by paying tuition fees.   

By the way, it is a rule of my calligraphy association, that you must submit a work at least once a month regardless of having an exam. Therefore, after leaving Japan, I was receiving the work model by e-mail and sent my work back to Japan via international mail every month. Especially when I was in Cyprus, I was very suspicious if my calligraphy could arrive in Japan by the deadline. Despite of my concerns, I was able to do it without any major problems.

Regarding the exam for promotion, the frequency got less while the rank went up, and eventually it became only once a year by the time that I was nearly a master. While having many problems within the life abroad, I often got depressed when I failed the exam. Also, when the life itself was not settled due to moving to the new country, I was overwhelmed by it and thought about quitting calligraphy several times. However, I could continue after all as my parents convinced me and supported me.

Finally, with a lot of support from the family/friends, I made it to obtain a "master's license" in 2018.

When I re-started calligraphy, I had such a relaxing long-term goal, such as holding a calligraphy calss after retiring (probably over 60 years old). However, since I started living abroad, I have been given opportunities to teach foreign friends calligraphy and to use calligraphy in volunteer activities/events. Since calligraphy is one of Japan's most representative traditional cultures, I would like to get more foreigners to know about it and to like Japanese culture.

When you work on something hard, but neiether succeeding nor getting good results, you may feel that 'what am I doing? Is it even worth?', or you may feel that you would rather quit it. However, in order to prove to myself the word "Persistance pays off," I will continue what I want to achieve, and never give it up.

まずフランクフルトといえば、ドイツ人でさえも大変と有名なアパート探しですが、外国人だとその大変さが倍増します。私は、渡独前にアパート探しをしたのですが、公式なアパート探しのサイトに載っていたアパートにも関わらず、詐欺にあたりました。ただ、お金を振り込む前に弁護士の友人が相談に乗ってくれて、その後のオーナーとのやりとりで完全に詐欺だと発覚し、お金を失わずに済んだのが、不幸中の幸いでした。この経験で、私は自分がいかに世間知らずかを思い知りました。

今後の被害を防ぐ為にも、詐欺の手口を簡単に説明します。まず、この家主は今後アメリカに住む予定なので、アパートを貸す人を探しているというのが彼の「設定」でした。アパート受け渡しの為にドイツに戻ってくるので、候補者(私)が本当にアパートを借りる気があり、資金もあることを証明してほしい。その証明方法とは、「Western Union」で送金先を私自身にして、お金を事前にWestern Unionに入れておいてほしいとのことでした。

彼は、送金先が私なので、そのお金を引き出せるのが私のみであり、安全であると言いました。そして、フランクフルトで下見をした後にアパートを気に入れば、そのまま市内のWestern Unionに一緒に行き、私がお金を引き出して、彼に支払うというのが彼のプランでした。

私はWestern Unionを利用したことがなく、使い方がよくわからなかったので、資金があることを証明する為に、銀行残高証明書ではダメかと聞きました。しかし彼は、Western Unionでないとダメだと言った為、念のため弁護士の友人に相談したところ、「Western Union」は詐欺が利用する手口として悪名高く、ほぼ確実に詐欺だと言われました。

その後メールで身元確認などのやり取りをしてもらった所、相手が逆上し、「あなたのお金など必要ありません。」というメールが来て、それに返信をしましたが、それ以降返信が来なくなり、終了しました。

このように、こちらが外国人であり弱い立場にあると、そういう人を狙って騙そうとしたり、お金を搾取しようとする人達が存在します。一人で海外生活をしてきて私は、世間知らずでいてはいけない事、社会のマイナスの面について学ぶ事、そして自分で自分を守る知識をつける事の重要性を学びました。

In September 2018, I started working in Frankfurt, Germany. I have struggled in all aspects of German life because I had neither learned German language in my life nor expected to live in Germany whatsoever.

First of all, finding apartments in Frankfurt is well-known as very hard thing even for Germans, which means, it is extremely hard for foreigners. I searched for an apartment before I came to Germany. However, despite the apartment listed on the official apartment searching site, it was a fraud. I was so lucky that I could consult with my lawyer friend about it before transferring money. We discovered that it was completely fraudulent in the subsequent interaction with the landlord, and I was saved from losing money. It made me realized that how naïve I had been.

In order to prevent future cases, I will briefly explain the trick of the fraud. First, the fraud (landlord) had a "setting" that he was looking for a tenant for his apartment,  because he got a job in the United States, and moving there. He said, he would come to Germany for the viewing, so he would need to know if I was serious to rent the apartment and prove that I would be financially capable. The way to prove it was to send money to myself in "Western Union", so that he could know that I was financially capable beforehand.

He said that it would be safe, as I would be the only one who could withdraw the money. The plan was to withdraw money at Western Union in Frankfurt after the viewing in order to pay him, if I agree with the apartment condition.

I never used the Western Union before, and also, I was not sure how to use it. Therefore I asked the landlord, if he could accept my bank statement to prove that I had money. However, he said that it had to be Western Union. I got a little bit worried at this point, so I consulted with my lawyer friend just in case. Then my lawyer friend said,  "Western Union has been known to be used as an outlet for fraud. I am afraid it is a scam. "

When my friend supported me to check his identity in an official manner, the scammer got upset and said "You know what, I do not need your money.". We replied to this email, but we never heard from him again.

As you can see, when you are a foreigner and in a vulnerable position, there are some people who try to target you and try to exploit your money. Having lived abroad alone, I learned the importance of not being naive, learning about the negative sides of the society, and acquiring knowledge to protect myself.

キプロスは、イギリスや日本とは異世界というのが第一印象でした。国土は日本の四国の半分くらいの大きさであり、首都ニコシアは現在も北がトルコ領、南がキプロス領と分断されています。南キプロスの公用語はギリシャ語ですが、英語がほとんど通じて、言葉に関しては困ることはあまりありません。また、ギリシャ神話に登場する、愛と美の女神「アフロディーテ」が誕生したのも、このキプロスとなり、美しい海が広がっています。

さて、キプロスでの生活は、最初の半年は本当に大変でした。仕事は会社に行けば学びながらこなせるし、何とかなるのですが、会社に通うのが問題でした。国に電車などの公共交通機関はなく、キプロスで生活をするには、車が必要となります。私は、運転の荒いキプロス人やロシア人に混じって、毎日高速を走って通勤する気にはなれず、心優しい会社の先輩にお願いして、いつも一緒に連れて行ってもらっていました。

住む場所も、キプロスに到着して2週間以内に見つけなければならず、最初に決めたアパートは酷いところでした。まずシャワーが出なかったので、5日間家でシャワーを浴びることができませんでした。また、窓の鍵が壊れていて閉めることができず、更に部屋は前に住んでいた人の名残でタバコ臭く、大家に最初に全て報告しました。週末はやることがなかったため、週末が来るのが憂鬱で会社にいた方が良いという、なんとも不健康な精神状態でした。

11月に日本に一時帰国する機会があったので、それを機に最初のアパートを出ました。キプロスに戻ってからは、ホテルに1週間、友達のシェアハウスに2週間、そしてまたホテルに1か月住み、そのうちに家を探しました。毎日のインターネットでのリサーチに加え、仕事前に街を歩き回り、良さそうなアパートを見つけては飛込で空きを確認し、ようやく住みたい！と思えるアパートを見つけることができました。

また、徐々に週末に一緒に出掛けられるような友達もできて、仕事だけでなく、プライベートも充実させることができるようになりました。

私の会社にはキプロス人に次いで、ロシア人がとても多く、たくさんの同世代のロシア人の友達を作ることができました。週末は、海や山が美しいパフォスやアヤナパに行ったり、トルコ領である北側の、歴史的な場所や山の頂上にある城跡に行ったり、本当に楽しい時間を過ごしました。ロシア人の子は、友達以外には笑顔を振りまかない子が多く、不愛想に見えますが、打ち解けるととても情深く、深い仲になれる素晴らしい子たちでした。

キプロスに転職して10か月ほど経ったころ、ようやく仮ビザから就労ビザが発行され、仕事もプライベートも充実した生活を送っていました。

しかし突然、会社で一斉リストラがあり、ある日の勤務終了時間に上層部から電話で呼ばれ、その日までのペイチェックを渡され、その場で解雇されることになります。

私は、この働き盛りの年でリストラされるとは想像したこともなかったし、海外勤務中のリストラで、ビザや家の契約など、どうなるのかわからない不安なことばかりの中で、環境変化を余儀なくされました。

解雇された日から一か月で就労ビザは切れることになり、キプロスで就活をした結果、ある会社からオファーをもらいます。それと同時に、ロンドンで勤務していた旅行会社のドイツ支店から、今すぐドイツで勤務してほしいとの仕事のオファーを偶然もらい、キプロスとドイツの様々な点を比較検討した結果、ドイツに転職することに決め、キプロス生活は終焉を迎えます。

I moved from London to Cyprus in September 2016 to change my job. Until I got an offer for work, I did not know whether the place "Cyprus" was a country or a city, but I thought that it would not be a place where I would live unless my work was the reason, so I decided to go there.

My first impression was that Cyprus was different from England and Japan. The country is about half the size of Japan's Shikoku, and the capital city Nicosia is still divided into Turkish territory in the north and Cyprus territory in the south. The official language of southern Cyprus is Greek, but as English is almost through, there is not much trouble with the language. In addition, the goddess of love and beauty “Aphrodite” appeared in Greek mythology was born in Cyprus, and the beautiful sea spreads out.

Well, living in Cyprus was really hard for the first half year. I could learn work while going to work and could be done somehow, but going to work was a problem. There were no public transports such as trains in the country, you needed a car to live in Cyprus. I didn't feel like I could go high-way where was full of rough driving of Cypriots and Russians, therefore I asked the kind senior from the company to take me along with him everyday.

The place to live also had to be found within two weeks of my arrival in Cyprus, and the first apartment I lived at was terrible. First of all, I could not take a shower at home for 5 days because the water was stuck in the shower head. In addition, the key of the window was broken and could not be closed, and furthermore the room smelled of cigarette in the remnant of the person who lived before, and I reported all to the owner as soon as possible. Because I had nothing to do on the weekend, I was always depressed for the coming weekend and I felt it would be better to stay in the office. It was a very unhealthy mental condition.

I had a chance to return to Japan temporarily in November, so I took the opportunity to leave my first apartment. After I returned to Cyprus, I lived in the hotel for a week, in a friend's share house for two weeks, and again in a hotel for a month, and then searched for a home. In addition to the research on the Internet on a daily basis, I walked around the city before work, found an apartment that looked good, then jumped in to check the space. Finally I got the one that I wanted to live in!!

In addition, I gradually made friends who I could hang out with at the weekend, and I had not only work but also had my private life.

The biggest number of the employees were Cypriots in the company, and Russians were following. I made some good Russian friends of the same generation within company. On the weekends, I went to Paphos and Ayia Napa which had stunning sea and mountains, and to the historic sites on the north side of the Turkish territory and the castle ruins on the top of the mountain, I had a really good time. Many Russians do not give smiles easily,  they look like unfriendly in the beginning. But once you get to know them, they are very affectionate and could be in deep relationships when you understand each other. 

About 10 months after I changed my location to Cyprus, I was finally issued a working visa, and I was having a fullfilling life with both work and private.

However, suddenly there was a lay-off in the company, and I got a call from the executive by telephone at the end of my working time of the day, they gave me the paycheck up to that day, and I was made redundant on the spot.

I had never imagined that I would be made redundant at this young age. Since I was working abroad, I got huge anxiety about what would happen to my apartment contract and visa etc.

The work visa was going to expire in one month from the day the company laid me off. As a result of job hunting in Cyprus, I got an offer from one of the companies. At the same time, I had a job offer from the German branch of the company which I used to work in London. After comparing these two offers, I decided to end my life in Cyprus and move to Germany.

自分の英語力に不安もありましたが、日本語と英語を両方使いながら、素敵な同僚に囲まれて、何でも頑張ろうと思えるような環境でした。

仕事だけでなく、私の最大の趣味である音楽も同時にやっていくため、ロンドンで音楽ができるバーなどを探し回り、少しづつ人脈を作り、ソーホーでライブをやらせてもらえるようになりました。ロンドンに行く前に住んでいたチチェスターやストラトフォードもそうでしたが、イギリスはパブの音楽文化が発達していて、プロにも劣らないような素晴らしい才能を持ったミュージシャンに、オープンステージで出会ってきました。また、シティにあるゴスペル合唱団に入って、毎週教会にて練習をし、多くの新しい経験をしました。

家に関してですが、ロンドン生活の始まりは、実に悲惨なものでした。渡英前に決めていた入居先が、この世に存在してはいけないレベルのアパートで、ロンドンに引っ越しした初日に泣きました。ただ、引っ越しを手伝ってくれていたイギリス人の友人が、私を助けようとしてくれて、一人ではなかったのが救いでした。

そして、一番最初の留学時に1か月のみステイさせてもらったホストファミリーに連絡をして、部屋はないけど来てもいいと言ってもらい、急遽リビング部屋に住まわせてもらえることになりました。その家族は本当に心の優しい人たちで、私はどうにかしてこの家族に恩返しがしたいと思っていました。

住み始めてから1か月後、ホストファミリーの息子さんがイギリスを出るので、部屋を使っていいと言ってもらい、私は自分の英国での初給料を片手に、ホストマザーに家賃を払いにいったところ、事情が変わって、家を売ることになったと話をされました。

その家族と住めることは天国のように幸せだったので、悲しかったですが、家族の迷惑にならないよう、すぐに次のアパートを探し、次はギャングで有名な街「Tooting」に住むことになりました。

またこの新しい家でも問題がたくさんあり、色々な経験をしましたが、4か月ほど住んだ後にまた引っ越しをすることになります。次に引っ越ししたのはBarbican という場所で、ロンドンを出るまで、ずっとこの素晴らしいアパートに住みました。最初は地獄のようなアパートから始まりましたが、最終的に天国のようなアパートに住むことができて、色々な世界を見ることができたのでよかったです。

仕事に関しては、平日は旅行会社で働き、週末を使ってストラトフォードのシェイクスピア生家でバイトをするという、忙しい日々を送りました。シェイクスピア生家では、日本人で初めてガイドとして雇ってもらい、世界中の人にシェイクスピアについて話をしたり、同僚がパフォーマンスする、シェイクスピア時代の音楽や寸劇を見ることができ、本当に良い経験をさせてもらいました。

旅行会社の仕事では、「緊急携帯」という夜中も週末も24時間対応可能な状態でいないといけない業務があり、最初の1年ほどはかなりのストレスがありましたが、十分なサポートを得られる環境にいたため、乗り越えていくことができました。

ロンドンという街は、私にとって、やりたいと思うこと全部を試すことができた場所で、自分で言うのもなんですが、順風満帆な生活を送っていました。

しかしながら、2年経ち、私のビザが切れる時がやってきて、イギリスから出ないといけなくなったため、転職活動をした結果、キプロスという新天地にて、金融関係の仕事をすることになります。

In September 2014, I have moved to London and started working at the traveling agency.

The reason why I decided to work for this company was that there were a swimming pool and a gym in their office building. I always loved swimming since I was small, and it was one of my dreams to work in such an environment. I remember that I was super excited to go to the office on the first day at work.

I had anxiety about my English level, but my anxiety soon disappeared as I had very nice warm-hearted colleagues, who were very supportive.

I researched music venues in London in order to play music, as music was one of my biggest hobbies.  I eventually managed to get my own gigs at a well-known music bar in Soho. I could get to know great musician at open stages in music bars/clubs in the UK, as pub music culture is very advanced in the UK. Those musicians performances were just as good as professional musicians on TV, I got so much inspiration from them. I also participated in Gospel Choir in City of London. We practiced some Gospel songs every week in the church, and I got some new experience.

Regarding the apartment, I had a terrible start in London. The apartment where I was moving in was clearly the worst apartment in the world, and it made me devastated. Luckily I was not alone on that day, as my friend was helping me.

I tried to find the hotel but none of them were available in such a short notice. I contacted the host family who I had stayed with only for a month when I first came to the UK for English study.

This host mother told me that although there were no spare rooms available, I could come and stay in their living room. I was so lucky to know those warm-hearted people, I felt like I could do anything for them to reciprocate.

When a month passed since I had moved in, I was told that I could use their son’s room as he was leaving. I was over the moon and was ready to pay my rent from my first salary from the travel agency. However, my host mother told me that the situation was changed and they decided to sell the house.

This news made me sad as I was so happy to live with this family. However, I found new apartment as soon as I could and moved out, as I didn’t want to give any troubles to this family. Then I moved into new town called ‘Tooting’ which was famous for the gangs.

I also got some issues at this new share house, then I ended up moving out to new apartment after living in this apartment for 4 months. The next apartment was in Barbican, which was in city of London. I lived in this awesome apartment until I left from London. 

My life in London started at one of the most horrible apartment in the world, but I ended up staying in one of the best apartment I have ever lived. I think it was great experience to get to know the both sides of the world.

Regarding my work, I worked for travel agency during weekdays, then I also worked for Shakespeare‘s birth place in the weekend. I had hectic days but also got such a great experience to see my colleague’s(actors) performance at Shakespeare’s birth place, such as music and short plays.

With travel agency, I had my least favorite duty called ‘Urgent duty’. I had to be available for 24 hours during nights and weekends. It gave me so much stress for the first year, but I could handle this duty by getting support from my managers.

To me, London was the place where I could try everything I wanted. I was lucky to have great English friends who supported me anytime I needed.

However, my visa came to the end after 2 years of living in London. As a result of job hunting, I moved to Cyprus and started working in finance industry.

私は、障がいのあるイギリス人の方5人が住んでいるアパートにて、そのうちのイギリス人女性1人の部屋に住み込みでお世話をすることになりました。住み込みでケアを受けていたのは私が担当していた女性のみだったため、そのアパートに住んでいる健常者は私一人でした。ただ、アパート内にオフィスがあり、ふらふらと外に出て行ってしまう入居者の方を連れ戻したり、緊急事態に備えて、イギリス人スタッフが日替わりで寝泊まりをしてくれていました。

私がお世話をしていたのは50代のイギリス人女性で、水頭症、癲癇、手の震えなどの症状がありました。基本的な私の仕事は、彼女の食事を作ったり、薬を飲ませたり、髪の毛を洗ってあげたり、お小遣いをあげて彼女の会計管理をしたり、食料や日用品のショッピングをしたり、デイケアセンターの送迎をしたり、何か一緒にゲームをしたりしてエンターテインメントをするといったことでした。

まず伸ばしたかった英語については、彼女と生活することでは全く伸びないということに気づきました。彼女は会話はできますが、まともな英語を話してはいなかったためです。私は、英語を伸ばす為に、仕事の合間を使って、近所にあったシェイクスピア生家のガイドとしてボランティアをすることにしました。そこでは、世界中からくる観光客の人たちにシェイクスピアの生家や歴史について英語で説明する機会を頂けたので、文章ごと丸覚えしながら英語を練習することができました。シェイクスピアについても、それまでは全く知りませんでしたが、シェイクスピアの書いたストーリーで、子ども向けに出版された本などを買って、シェイクスピアについても学びました。

このイギリス人女性と一緒に生活する中で私は、色々なことを考えました。ある日、食事をしている時に、彼女は自分の震える手のせいでうまく食べ物を口まで運べず、いらついてフォークを投げつけて、「もうこんな人生いやだ！」と言いました。そういう時は、二人で一緒に食べようと言って、彼女を笑わせられるように冗談を混ぜ、乗り越えていました。

私は不眠症になるくらい、彼女のことで頭がいっぱいになり、常に「私はこの人の為に何ができるのだろうか」と悩んでいました。ただ色々なことをやってあげるのではなく、私がいなくなった後、彼女の人生にプラスになることをしたい。彼女の両親がご年配で、彼女が一人になった時のことをとても心配していて、私は、彼女が少しでも自立できるような手伝いをしていこうと決めました。

ただ何でもやってあげるのではなく、自分でやらせて、自立心を育てていく。例えばトイレがつまった時など、自分で何とかしようと試みるようになって、自分で直せた時はとても誇らしい顔で私に報告してくれるようになりました。

彼女は私にとって、子どもであり、友人であり、母親であり、色々な経験をさせてくれました。私が一緒に住んでいた障がい者の方達は一人で旅行するどころか、買い物さえも一人でできない。私は、自分が健康に生まれたことの有難み、一人で海外に行ける自由を持っていること、やろうと思えば何でもできる恵まれた環境にいること、勉強をする頭も持っていることなど、自分の幸運さを認識しました。私はこの恵まれた環境にいる立場の者として、社会を支えられるよう一所懸命働いていきたいと思いました。

そして、このチャリティーワークが終わる頃、ロンドンにて2年働くことを決めました。

In August 2013, I went to the U.K. again, and my charity worker life started. I was hoping to work in London, but I was placed in Stratford-upon-Avon against my will.

I lived in an apartment building which had 5 British people who were special needs. I shared the apartment with one of them. I was the only normal person there, but there was an office where the English staff slept over every night in order to stop residents from leaving during night.

My client was an English lady who was in her 50’s. She had hydrocephalus, epilepsy and tremor. My duty was to cook for her, give her medicine, wash her hair, controll her finance, go grocery shopping with her, take her to day care center and play some games with her.

First of all, I realized that there was no chance to improve my English. Because my client could not speak proper English. I found “Shakespeare’s Birth Place” near my work. I applied for a volunteer position. I was lucky enough to be accepted as a house guide, which was totally same role as other English staff. I could improve my English by memorizing every sentences at the same time learning about Shakespeare‘s life and the English history. I actually had not known about Shakespeare at all by then, so I bought some books that were written for kids, and learned about Shakespeare’s plays and poems.

Living with my client made me think a lot. One day, she said to me “I am fed up with my life!!!” and threw the cutlery. She was annoyed at her shaky hands which prevented her from bringing the food into her mouth. I tried to encourage her and helped her to bring food into her mouth, sometimes I mixed some jokes so that she could laugh.

I was thinking about her so much, I even got a sleep deprivation by this. I was thinking, “what can I do for her??” I wanted to do something not only to help her temporarily, but also to improve her life even after I leave from her. Her parents were quite aged, which made them worry about her future. I decide to support her in a way to make her more independent.

Not just doing everything for her, but letting her solve the problems by herself in order to grow her independence. For instance, when the toilet was blocked (typical in the U.K.), I let her fix it by herself. When she succeeded, she came to inform me and looked so proud of herself. She looked happy with her success, and it made me happy, too. 

She was not only my client, but also like my child, my friend and my mother. She gave me a lot of important lessons. Those who lived in this apartment, could not only travel, but also could not even going for a walk alone.  It made me recognize that how lucky I was to be born with a healthy body. I can also go abroad alone and challenge whatever I want. It made me think that I have a responsibility to work as a healthy person and support the society. 

When I ended my charity work, I decided to move to London to work for next 2 years.

2012年9月に日本に帰国した後、次の目標に向かう為の方法を模索していたところ、自分のマッサージ店をやる機会を得ることになります。

ある日、音楽バーで弾き語りをしていたところ、音楽プロデューサーの仕事をしている人に声をかけてもらい、その人と音楽について話す為に、音楽スタジオに行くことになりました。

その方が、音楽スタジオのオーナーさんと仲良しで、私のことについて話したところ、実はビルにエステサロンを作ったけど今使えていないので、もしよかったら自分のサロンをやらないかという話をもらいました。リラクゼーションサロンをやることは夢の一つでもあったし、こんなチャンスは滅多にないと思ったので、場所を借りることになりました。

IT時代の同僚にホームページ作成してもらったり、アーティストの友達にチラシ作りを手伝ってもらったりと、色々な人の手助けを借りてやってみたいことを試すことができました。ただこの時、私にはイギリスでもっと勉強するという目標があり、とにかくお金を稼ぎたかったので、夜間のコールセンター業務（夜9時～朝9時）も同時に始めることにしました。

ところが、もともと、とても規則正しい生活をしている人間なので、夜間の仕事をしたら1か月しないうちに体調を崩し、仕事を続けられなくなりました。状況を会社に話したところ、昼間の勤務に変えてもらえるということになり、サロンをやりながらお客さんがいないときはコールセンター勤務をするという形に収まりました。

それと同時に、イギリスで勉強をするという目標の為に、２つの課題、英語とお金をどうしたら解決できるかを考えて、イギリスでチャリティーワーカーとして障がい者の方たちを住み込みでお世話をするというプログラムを見つけます。

住み込みの仕事なので家賃がいらず、給料はないのですが、食費補助が出るので生きていけること、身体的に人のお世話を本当にそこまで自分が望んでいるのかを判断したかったこと、そして英語を勉強する時間を得るという目的で、プログラムに参加することにしました。

サロンは楽しかったですが、一定の場所に定住することが決まった時に、本格的にやりたいと思ったため、まだ挑戦の真っただ中にいた私は、2013年8月から再度イギリスに渡ることになります。

I was looking for next step since I came back to Japan, then I got an opportunity to start my own massage salon.

I met a music producer while I was singing at the music bar.  We went to the music studio to talk about music. He was a good friend of that music studio owner, and the owner suggested me to use their salon room which was not used at that time. Since having my own salon was one of my dreams, I decided to give it a go.

My ex colleague from the IT company helped to create my salon web site. Another friend who was a designer also helped me to create a flyer. I could try what I wanted with my friends help.

However, I still had a dream to study in the UK, therefore I also worked for call center from 9pm to 9am for money.

Because I had been always having a regulated life style(I am an early bird), I collapsed after working night shift for a month. I talked with my employer, and they put me into the day shift. At the end, I worked at the call center while I did not have massage clients.

Meanwhile,  I was thinking how to solve 2 big issues, money and English in order to study in the UK. Then I found the charity program which was about working for the people who were special needs in the UK.

There was no salary for this job, but the expenses for the food. I didn’t need to worry about the  rent as I lived with the clients. I decided to take part of this program as I needed to know how much I was willing to take care of people physically, and also needed to get some time to forcus on studying English.

It was such a great experience to have my own salon, but I decided to close and put it off for the future when I settle down somewhere. I was still in the middle of the challenge, then I moved to the UK again in August 2013.

勉強、音楽、英語、バイトなど全てを全力でやって、たくさんの友達もできた初めての留学生活。

約10か月のカレッジコースが終了した時、私には次の目標ができていました。それは、「英語で理学療法を勉強し、スポーツチームで働く」ということでした。

実は私は、もともとスポーツが大好きで、音楽を始めるまでは、ずっと水泳をやっていました。他にもスポーツ全般が好きで、体を常に動かしていたいタイプの子でした。

カレッジでディプロマを取れたのはもちろん嬉しかったのですが、この時まだ若かったし、若いうちにできる限り高いレベルで勉強をして、スキルを伸ばしたいと考えていました。

そして、どうしたらイギリスでその勉強ができるかを調べたところ、かなりの英語力が必要であるということ、そしてかなりの資金が必要であることがわかりました。

理学療法コースの募集要項であった「医療機関での就業経験」というものを満たすために、NHS（イギリスの医療機関）で看護師・医者向けのマッサージをボランティアで行わせてもらいました。これは、カレッジの先生にアポ取りなどを助けてもらって、やっと活動させてもらえました。

また、掃除のバイトをさせてもらっていたビルの、警備員の人の紹介で、セミプロのサッカーチームで理学療法士として勤務している、本業は大学の先生をやっている方の指導のもと、選手のマッサージケアもボランティアで参加させてもらいました。

しかし、カレッジ学生としての1年のビザが終わるまでに英語力を満たすことはできず、そして資金も全く足りていなかったため、2012年の8月にとりあえず帰国することになりました。

This is the story about my life in Chichester 2.

My first experience to study abroad was so fullfilling, with such as study, doing music, learning british culture, part-time job, etc., and I made many friends.

When the 10-month college course ended, I had the following goals: That was, "Studying physio therapy in English and working in a sports team."

I actually love sports and I used to swim a lot in a serious training club until I started music. I also like sports in general, and I am super active person.

Of course I was happy to have received a diploma at college, but I still wanted to improve myself and study more at a highger level, I felt I was too young to settel with what I had.

And I found out that I needed much higher level of English language and a lot of money for tuition fees.

In order to satisfy the "work experience at a medical institution" which was the course entry guideline of the physical therapy course, I volunteered to give a massage for nurses and doctors at NHS (a medical institution in the UK). It was not easy but I made it happen after getting some support from the college teacher.

In addition, I got a chance to work at a semi-professional football team under the supervise of the university professor who also worked as a physiotherapist in the team. I was lucky enough to get this chance from the security man who was working in the building where I was doing a cleaning job. I could participate in a team as a masseuse to take care of the players.

However, I could not meet the requirement of English level by the end of my stay in Chichester. Neither I had enough money to study physio. I returned home in August 2012.
