"I'm happy being a prostitute" was the slogan on a web campaign for International Prostitute Day that also encouraged sex workers to not be ashamed to seek medical treatment for sexually transmitted diseases.

The campaign was published on the health ministry's website and social media sites last weekend, and has since provoked a wave of criticism, especially from evangelical legislators in Brazil's congress.

"We are fighting childhood prostitution and here comes a campaign encouraging it," federal deputy Liliam S said in a recent congressional committee meeting.

Health Minister Alexandre Padilha, a rising star in the ruling Workers' Party who is expected to run for governor of So Paulo state next year, said in a Twitter post late Tuesday that the campaign had gone ahead without his authorization.

In the tweet, Padilha said the decision to scrap the campaign "came before any protests for or against it."

"Jokes, for instance, will get you in trouble," Romney said. "Any time you're trying to be funny."

U.S. employers added 175,000 jobs last month, slightly more than the 170,000 forecast by economists, according to data provider FactSet. The figure is consistent with steady hiring but less robust than the pace reported in the fall and winter.

The report gave a boost to stock market bulls, who expect the Federal Reserve to keep up its stimulus program as the U.S. economy continues to recover moderately. That combination pushed the Dow Jones industrial average and the Standard & Poor's 500 index to record highs last month.

For investors who expect the Fed to stay the course, "these types of slow economic growth reports speak to that," said Kevin Mahn, chief investment officer at Hennion & Walsh Asset Management. "It keeps interest rates at record lows and it keeps the equity markets humming."

The Dow Jones Industrial average jumped 165 points, or 1 percent, to 15,206 as of 10:56 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time. Home Depot rose $1.63, or 2.1 percent, the $78.90, the most of the 30 stocks in the index.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index gained 15 points, or 1 percent, to 1,637. The Nasdaq composite rose 27 points, or 0.8 percent, to 3,451.

The market slumped on Tuesday and Wednesday after disappointing reports on private-sector hiring and manufacturing. The S&P 500 index lost 1.9 percent over those two days.

Friday's gains were broad. Nine of the 10 industry groups in the S&P 500 index rose, led by industrial stocks, which stand to benefit more than other sectors if the economy picks up. The only group that fell was telecommunications, a so-called defensive sector that investors favor when they are seeking safety and high dividends.

Financial markets have turned volatile over the past two weeks as traders parse comments from Federal Reserve officials for hints about when the central bank will cut back on its support and the impact that will have on long-term interest rates and the economy. The Fed is buying $85 billion of bond every month to keep interest rates low and encourage borrowing and spending.

The S&P 500 index is down 1.8 percent since reaching a record high on May 21. The next day, Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke said the Fed could act to ease up on its economic stimulus program in one of its next few meetings

In government bond trading, the yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose to 2.14 percent from 2.08 percent late Thursday as investors moved out of safer assets.

The Labor Department's monthly survey of employment is one of the most important gauges of the U.S. economy and receives close scrutiny from investors. It can frequently cause big moves in financial markets, especially if the report shows that employment is stronger or weaker than economists were expecting.

On May 3, the government reported not only a strong pickup in hiring in April but it also revised sharply upward its estimates for job growth in February and March. That sent the Dow Jones industrial average past 15,000 for the first time, while the S&P 500 index broke through 1,600.

In the weeks following that report, bond yields rose from 1.63 percent as high as 2.20 percent May 31. That meant investors think the economy was strengthening, dampening the appeal of low-risk assets like bonds. It also meant investors thought the Federal Reserve would act sooner than previously thought to curtail its bond-buying program.

In commodities trading Friday, the price of oil rose 93 cents, or 1 percent, to $95.68 a barrel. The price of gold fell $30, or 2.2 percent, to $1,385 an ounce.

Among stocks making big moves:

Gap rose 96 cents, or 2.3 percent, to $44.85. The San Francisco-based clothing store chain reported late Thursday that its sales jumped 7 percent in May, more than expected, helped by strong results at its namesake Gap and Old Navy stores.

TiVo plunged $2.40, or 17.4 percent, to $11.36 after the company settled patent disputes with several technology companies including Cisco and Motorola Mobility but received far less than what most investors inspected. TiVo has posted annual losses in nearly all of the past 10 years.

Thor Industries rose $5.18, or 12.6 percent, to $46.42 after the company reported a 6 percent increase in income. The results beat market expectations on stronger sales of RVs and a lower tax rate.

The university said it will study a range of potential sites for the museum near its campus in Iowa City and options for funding the building through donations and partnerships with the private sector. While the project is still years from completion, the approval for planning by the Iowa Board of Regents gives hope that the university's art collection of 12,400 paintings, sculptures and other objects will one day return to campus.

The lack of space for the collection, built up over decades and considered among the best held by a U.S. university, has been one of the results of a historic 2008 flood that damaged the UI Museum of Art and 21 other campus buildings. University workers were able to evacuate the art works, which have been housed largely at the Figge Art Museum in Davenport, 60 miles away, and in other places on campus since then.

The collection includes a famous Jackson Pollock painting and has an overall estimated value of more than $500 million.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency ruled in 2010 that the museum, which sustained millions of dollars in damage to its utility systems and lower level, was not more than 50 percent damaged and therefore qualified for federal funding only for renovations, instead of to be rebuilt outside the floodplain. The university said it could not find any insurers who would cover the collection at the museum's site on the Iowa River. FEMA rejected multiple appeals by the university, including its final one in March, for funding to rebuild elsewhere.

"Unsuccessful, but at least we had determination," university senior vice president and treasurer Doug True told regents during a meeting in Iowa City on Wednesday.

The regents voted unanimously to give the university permission to begin planning for the new museum. The board also approved a $2.5 million project to repair flood damage in the current building so it can be used for other academic purposes. Part of the building is already being used as temporary space for music programs, and the university will decide in the future how to use the rest of the space.

True said the university plans to pursue a "public-private partnership" for the new building, which could be used to display the collection and for other purposes. He said the university would soon send out "a request for information" to developers who may have ideas on where the building could be located and how it might be financed and operated. More detailed plans for its design and budget would be approved later.

"We want to continue ... to pursue that process where people in our community and anywhere in Iowa can help find the place, the land and an imaginative way where we might work with the private sector to develop something that would be a multi-use facility," he said.

He said the building must be easily accessible to students and professors and include the security and climate that are required to store art. The university has not set a price tag for the building and told the regents that the amount of university funding provided for construction and operation will depend "upon the nature of the financial ownership." In the past, the school has said a new museum could cost $75 million.

In its proposal to regents, the university said that storing the collection in Davenport had led to "very limited" access for students, teachers, scholars and the public. While FEMA grants have covered the storage costs to date, they will eventually become a "financial drain" on the university when the funding runs out, the university said.

Wednesday's action comes as flooding along the Iowa River has required the university to again evacuate the old museum, which was designed by renowned architect Max Abramovitz and opened in 1969. The university has erected flood barriers that are expected to keep the building and others dry.

MONTREAL (Reuters) - Fernando Alonso, desperate to get his Formula One championship bid back on track, signaled his intentions to start with this weekend's Canadian Grand Prix by setting the fastest lap in practice on Friday.

The Spaniard posted the day's fastest overall time when he lapped the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in one minute 14.818 seconds during the 90-minute afternoon session.

Briton Lewis Hamilton, a three-time winner at the Montreal street circuit, was second fastest overall in his Mercedes, just 0.012 behind Alonso's Ferrari.

Frenchman Romain Grosjean was third quickest for Lotus, while his Finnish teammate Kimi Raikkonen, currently second in the championship standings, was 11th.

Australia's Mark Webber was fourth for Red Bull while his teammate, triple world champion Sebastian Vettel, could only manage seventh best and was expecting a close race.

"It felt pretty good. It's always difficult to know what other people are doing, but all in all it was a good run," Vettel told reporters.

"Mercedes was very quick, Ferrari looked very competitive in both long and short runs, so I think those will be the main two rivals.

"But never forget the Lotus. They can be a surprise in the race by going further than everyone else."

Britain's Paul Di Resta was the surprise leader for Force India after the morning session, which began in light rain with puddles of water still on the track.

But he tumbled down the timesheets to 13th place in the afternoon session, when he had an electrical problem and all the cars went much quicker after the track had dried and they switched to softer tires.

Despite two wins and a second-place finish from the previous six races this season, Alonso has slipped back to third place in the standings, 29 points behind Vettel after finishing seventh at the most recent race in Monaco.

The Spaniard has made no secret of the fact he believes he needs to finish in front of Germany's Vettel this weekend to start eating into his lead.

"We can expect a very complicated weekend, because the weather is due to remain changeable right up to Sunday and judging the grip level will be difficult, both in qualifying and in the race," said Alonso.

"It was an untypical Friday, affected by the extremely changeable weather. We didn't manage to complete our program because the track was wet in the morning and so only tomorrow will we find out if the updates we tested here produce a real performance evolution."

Hamilton said he was happy enough by his car's performance but said his chances of winning would be better if the rain stayed away.

"The car felt pretty good today and I tried a couple of different things over the two sessions which made me feel a little more comfortable so that's positive," he said.

"Hopefully it will be dry for qualifying tomorrow and we can have a strong day."

There were no major incidents in either session although Venezuela's Pastor Maldonado hit a wall in the morning when the track was slippery and wet, breaking the front wing of his Williams.

The drivers will have a third practice session on Saturday morning before official qualifying gets underway later that day.

Jenson Button, a winner in Canada two years ago, was second fastest in the morning then ninth in the afternoon after his McLaren experienced gearbox problems.

"We needed the car to be reliable and it wasn't today," said the Englishman. "But there is a lot info to look at on both cars and they were running very different set-ups and downforce levels, so at least we got some information."

TOKYO (Reuters) - Given Kate Spade Saturday's bold designs, bright colors and creative flair, it was probably only fitting that the new lifestyle brand opened its first flagship store in fashion-obsessed Tokyo.

After all, the sister label of Kate Spade New York began developing the brand with Japanese consumers in mind more than three years ago, envisaging functional designs that would strike a chord with on-the-go urbanites and expand the original brand's DNA into a more casual realm.

Kate Spade Saturday opened its first store in Tokyo's trendy Harajuku district earlier this month and another in Osaka last week, and plans to have a total of five Japan stores open by June. Following the Japan launch, it also debuted in the United States via an online store and is eyeing a push into other international markets later this year.

"Because this brand's concept originated in Japan and we really wanted to make the brand global, we felt Tokyo was the perfect city to launch the brand," Ayako Yanagisawa, president of Kate Spade Japan, told Reuters in an interview at the company's offices in Harajuku.

"I think Tokyo is a very interesting city for the fashion industry to try out a new brand. The market is mature enough to receive, and digest, and understand new creativity. There is also a wide age range of people who like fashion in this city," she said.

"It can be a real showcase for the Asian market."

Tokyo has served as an overseas launch point in recent years for several brands, including designers Rebecca Minkoff and Tracy Reese. Both the Rebecca Minkoff and Tracy Reese brands showed at the Tokyo Runway fashion show Wednesday held in conjunction with Japan Fashion Week.

Kate Spade New York, owned by Fifth & Pacific Companies Inc, is known for the splashy colors and bold prints of its designer handbags, clothing and accessories. It competes with brands like Coach and Michael Kors in the attainable luxury category.

Japan is Kate Spade's biggest market outside the United States and the company aims to increase the number of its Japanese stores - including New York, Saturday and its Jack Spade men's brand - to between 85 and 105 in 2016, from 54 in 2012.

"The Japanese retail market still has room to grow," Yanagisawa said, noting that so-called fashion buildings, often built adjacent to or above train stations, were a big draw for women in their 20s and 30s even as traditional department store sales drop off.

Japan's young trendsetters are starting to take notice.

"Everyone has a Kate Spade iPhone case," said Kyoko Oyamada, a 21-year-old university student in Tokyo sporting a black leather Kate Spade handbag. "I thought they were cute so I went to check out the bags myself and found one I wanted."

The longtime Calgary Flames captain waived a no-trade clause and was dealt to the Penguins in March hours after turning down a deal that would have sent him to Boston.

"I was very fortunate that both teams were interested and I was fortunate that Calgary gave me that chance," Iginla told the Penguins website.

"I know Boston is a great team and it was one of those situations that when I did it, I knew there was a big possibility that we'd be in this situation and here we are. I'm excited about the challenge."

The teams will open the best-of-seven Eastern Conference finals in Pittsburgh on Saturday to determine who will play the Western Conference representative for the Stanley Cup.

The 2011 Stanley Cup champion Bruins entered the playoffs as the fourth seed but have stepped up their game considerably and boast the postseason's top scorer in David Krejci, who has 17 points in 12 games.

Pittsburgh, who last won a Stanley Cup in 2009, finished the regular season with the best record in the conference to earn top seeding and have Sidney Crosby showing solid form.

The exhibition, entitled "Frogs: A Chorus of Colors," features more than 150 live frogs from approximately 25 species, from the brilliantly coloredto the giant African bullfrog. The exhibit opens Saturday (May 18) and runs through Jan. 5, 2014.

" are so weird that although we might think we know frogs really well, there's just so much about their biology and what they do which is a chance in the exhibition to really surprise people," exhibit curator Christopher J. Raxworthy, a curator in the museum's department of herpetology and faculty member in its Richard Gilder graduate school, told LiveScience at a press preview of the exhibit.

The display introduces visitors to the biology and evolution of these wacky and wonderful amphibians, as well as their importance to ecosystems and the dangers they face. The colorful creatures, which were bred in captivity, peer through glass cases containing recreations of their natural habitats. []

Highlights include the pale-blue Mexican dumpy frog from the semiarid subtropical lowland forests in Mexico and the appropriately named tomato frog from the lowlands of Madagascar.

The frogs possess a certain mystique for visitors. People are drawn to the amphibians' bright colors and strange physiques. "I think that, aesthetically, it really gives people a high," Raxworthy said. In addition, there are the quirky things frogs do.

For example, many frogs swallow using their eyeballs. "Once they have prey in their mouth, to help force it down their throat, they actually pull their eyeballs down," Raxworthy said. And heres another wacky tidbit: African clawed .

The exhibit's centerpiece is a large poison-dart-frog vivarium containing more than 80 frogs, including bumblebee poison frogs, Bastimentos strawberry poison frogs and green-leg poison frogs. In the wild, poison dart frogs concentrate the toxins found in ants and other insects they eat into a powerful poison that the Ember, the indigenous people of northwestern Columbia, rub onto darts for weapons.

Active research in the museum's department of herpetology is also featured in the exhibit. Biologists are still discovering new frog species. More than 6,000 species have been described so far, and that number is increasing rapidly, Raxworthy said.

Nonetheless, frog populations are dwindling around the world, and the exhibit features a short video about some of the threats frogs face. Nearly one-third of amphibians 88 percent of which are frogs are threatened, and at least 34 species of frogs (and possibly many more) are extinct. Habitat loss is a major cause, but a mysterious disease caused by theis also to blame.

"There's lots we don't fully understand, but its very sad to see a big chunk of amphibian diversity now also suffering because of this disease," Raxworthy said.

The purpose of the exhibit is to educate people about these fascinating creatures, Raxworthy said. For visitors, he said, "This is a great chance to find out interesting facts about frogs you probably have no idea about. The more you dig, the more weird and wonderful it gets."
