Known nationally for his record of 49 bench press repetitions at the scouting combine, Paea is now a leading candidate to replace defensive tackle Tommie Harris.

We’ll save the they-actually-got-the-deal-done cheap shot for later. For the record Kyle Orton Jersey, the Bears swapped second-round positions with the Washington Redskins and also surrendered their fourth-round pick (No. 127 overall). That’s a lot to pay for a defensive tackle in the second round, but it came one spot after the New York Giants selected North Carolina defensive tackle Marvin Austin, another prospect the Bears apparently coveted.

(There is a pretty good stream of musicians who pass through to take on the national anthem.) Hill picked games in print against staffers from The Tennessean last season and rare was the week when she didn’t go with her team despite its struggles.

Best logo -- We hit this in our Power Rankings of helmets. It’s hard not to love that Colts horseshoe. First Nike DeMarco Murray Jersey, it’s a classic with a lot of history in two great cities. Second, it’s a good luck charm so long as it’s pointed the right way. It’s practically stitched onto the image that comes into my head when I think of Johnny Unitas and Peyton Manning. Given the divisional competition -- three cookie-cutter “modern” NFL Properties designs (OK Jon Kitna Jersey, the Texans’ isn’t too bad), this is a runaway.

Best tailgating -- It’s a Houston claim to fame. I get steady invitations to stop by but have always resisted, because it’s not part of a reporter’s pregame routine. Perhaps my boss will let me alter a game day to test things out for myself. It’s a venue where cars line up well before the gates open and where there were huge complaints from non-ticket-holders because of a new rule forbidding them from taking up coveted parking lot space for pregame partying.

Best shot at HOF, non-QB -- Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney is closer to the end of his career than Andre Johnson, so he gets the vote here. He’s 31 but remains a consistent force who’s a threat on every play. Offensive coordinators, left tackles and quarterbacks have to worry about him all the time, and game plans are built around slowing him. A high percentage of his sacks come with forced fumbles. With a few more good sack totals Anthony Spencer Jersey, his numbers will be at the right level to earn induction.

Best mascot -- Much to rival T-Rac’s chagrin in Nashville, I am going with wise-guy Jaxson De Ville of the Jaguars. But he’s clever and edgy in a way that extends his appeal beyond people whose age is in single digits. Undrafted quarterbacks will play key roles for some teams as they open practices.

Seattle is one of those teams.

The Seahawks, like the San Francisco 49ers DeMarco Murray Jersey, are expected to sign a starting-caliber quarterback in free agency. Veteran free agents signing new contracts for 2011 will not be eligible to practice until the league year begins Aug. 4, about one week before exhibition openers. Chicago Bears: Enhanced comfort zone for quarterback Jay Cutler
In detail: The Bears fully committed to Cutler three years after acquiring him from the Denver Broncos. They finally gave him a full complement of promising receivers, most notably his all-time favorite in Brandon Marshall. Cutler will have his choice of big downfield threats, be it Marshall or rookie Alshon Jeffery, and Devin Hester has drawn rave reviews for his work within the team's new concepts. Coach Lovie Smith hired one of Cutler's favorite former coaches, Jeremy Bates, as quarterbacks coach, and offensive coordinator Mike Tice has liberally assimilated thoughts from Bates and Cutler into his scheme. For the first time the Bears feel like Cutler's team.
Biggest regression: The Bears' top four defensive players -- linebacker Brian Urlacher, defensive end Julius Peppers, linebacker Lance Briggs and cornerback Charles Tillman -- all got a year older without the team acquiring a potential heir at any of their positions. (Rookie defensive end Shea McClellin is projected to fill the Bears' spot opposite of Peppers.)

Detroit Lions: Insurance and a long-term plan at left tackle
In detail: The Lions mostly stood pat this offseason, making it their top priority to keep together a nucleus that earned a playoff spot three years after the franchise bottomed out at 0-16. They accomplished that goal by reaching contract agreements with receiver Calvin Johnson and linebacker Stephen Tulloch while franchising defensive end Cliff Avril. Retaining young players with room for growth counts as an improvement nike dallas cowboys jersey, but most notably, the Lions hatched a legitimate plan for the end of left tackle Jeff Backus' career. First-round draft choice Riley Reiff could replace Backus this season if necessary but could also get a year to develop. Raji more efficiently by calling on rookies Jerel Worthy and Mike Daniels, along with eventual contributions from Anthony Hargrove (eight-game suspension) and Mike Neal (four-game suspension). The Packers have also signed Phillip Merling Nike Dan Bailey Jersey, a former second-round draft pick of the Miami Dolphins, and veteran Daniel Muir.
Biggest regression: The Packers had near-ideal insurance at quarterback when Matt Flynn was their backup quarterback. Presumptive replacement Graham Harrell has extensive experience in the Packers' system and has been widely praised by coaches this offseason Brandon Carr Jersey, but no one has suggested he is the equivalent of Flynn just yet.

Minnesota Vikings: A better situation for a young quarterback
In detail: Quarterback Christian Ponder will have a blue-chip left tackle in rookie Matt Kalil protecting his backside and two proven pass-catchers for mid-range passing in tight ends Kyle Rudolph and John Carlson. The Vikings have also added a receiver who can stretch the field in Jerome Simpson, who will be eligible to play in Week 4 after an NFL suspension, and might have unearthed a draft steal if Arkansas' Greg Childs is healthy. The offense is far from a finished product, but it is staffed much better at multiple positions than it was in 2011.
Biggest regression: The Vikings appear to have cast aside E.J. Henderson, their middle linebacker for most of the past decade. For now, that means they are hoping to make fourth-year player Jasper Brinkley their new starter. Wake A.J. Hawk Jersey, 30, signed a four-year extension that could help define parameters for St. Louis' Chris Long Tyron Smith Jersey, Seattle's Chris Clemons and Arizona's Calais Campbell. That extension was reportedly worth $49 million, with $20 million in guaranteed money.

Scheme differences affect how these players are defined. They are connected by contract status and their ability to rush the passer.

The Cardinals named Campbell their franchise player, setting his value at about $10.6 million for the 2012 season. Long will also earn more than $10 million this season. Clemons' deal pays him $4.6 million in salary for 2012.

Clemons and Wake are similar in that both were undrafted, both are 30 years old and both emerged as prominent players only in the last few seasons.

Seattle values Clemons as a pass-rusher, defensive leader and mentor for new first-round draft choice Bruce Irvin. For those reasons, signing Clemons to an extension could make sense even though Irvin projects as Clemons' eventual successor.

Campbell, 25, plays defensive end in a 3-4 scheme, diminishing his opportunities for sacks (he has 14 over the past two seasons). But as the Cardinals' franchise player, he's in position to command a lucrative extension.

Long, 27 DeMarcus Ware Jersey, has seen his sack totals grow every season since the Rams made him the second overall choice of the 2008 draft. He had 13 last season.

The chart shows Clemons and Long with about the same sack totals as Wake over the past two seasons. While teams value players for their all-around games, pass-rushing ability carries a premium and sacks are an important measure.

The Bucs (or at least what’s left of last year’s team) will face their former head coach, Raheem Morris, who now is the defensive backs coach for the Redskins.

AP Photo/Ben LiebenbergRaheem Morris will coach against his former team Wednesday night.A lot of things have changed since the Bucs lost their final 10 games of last season and hired Greg Schiano, but it doesn’t sound like Morris has changed all that much. Check out Rick Stroud’s story in which Morris does what he does best ... and worst. He talks a lot, perhaps way too much.

“We were getting fitted for coach of the year rings [in 2010],’’ Morris said. “A year later Tony Romo Jersey, we weren’t disciplined enough.’’

That’s vintage Morris. I don’t know too many other head coaches that would be bragging about finishing second in the voting for coach of the year after a 2010 season in which a young team obviously caught some lucky breaks and went 10-6, but didn’t make the playoffs. Morris mentioned the runner-up finish in that meaningless election several times while he still was in Tampa Bay and, even then, it was obvious that he was trying to make it sound like he had arrived before he truly had.

Back in his Tampa Bay days, Morris liked to talk about how much he liked his youthful team and its desire Jordy Nelson Jersey, coining the word “Youngry." Now, he’s coming across differently, admitting that he called Mark Dominik after the Bucs went on a spending spree in free agency in March.

“I gave him some nice choice words,’’ Morris said, adding that Dominik treated the call as playful banter.

That’s nice Mike Jenkins Jersey, but Morris is at least giving the impression that he’s a little bitter the Bucs didn’t spend big money on free agents while he was there, even though he frequently talked about the importance of building through the draft. The part about not signing free agents was true in his final year green bay packers jersey nike, but not the entire time. The Bucs did sign some free agents earlier in his tenure and they didn’t work out (see Derrick Ward). Maybe the fact guys like Ward didn’t work out was Morris’ fault, maybe it was Dominik’s fault or maybe it was a combination of the two. Just think back to the fact that original offensive coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski didn’t make it through his first training camp and initial defensive coordinator Jim Bates didn’t make it through the first season.

Look, I like Morris. He’s a genuinely nice guy and I think he will be a good head coach someday. He has plenty of positive qualities. But he needs to be a little more introspective on his time in Tampa Bay and realize some of the mistakes he made.

The fact is, the Bucs made Morris a head coach long before he was ready. He’s 36 now and he’s in a spot where he can do what he does best -- coach defensive backs.

In the process, maybe Morris can also grow by looking back and making some small changes, like focusing more on details and learning to tone down the bravado.

If he does that Nike Terence Newman Jersey, Morris can then take the next logical step and become a defensive coordinator somewhere. Do that for a few years, have some success, stay humble about that success and he might get another chance as a head coach.
