The first piece kicked off with a great start. It was a very powerful piece and the conductor was amazing. The piece was by Carl Phillip Emanuel Bach (Sinfonia in D major, H.633 Wq. 183/1). I liked the way the whole orchestra breathed together when they played the chords together. There was an instrument called the harpsichord and it was mostly used in the Baroque period. It was my first time listening to a harpsichord together with the orchestra and I felt like I travelled back in time to the Baroque period.

The second piece was even better when the organ player Masato Suzuki came out to play the pipe organ in the hall. The piece started off with two huge chords by the organ and again, it was my first time listening to an pipe organ in real life and I got shocked from how loud it was. The pipe organ was used mostly in the romantic period and I also felt like I was in that time when I heard it.

To end the night, the orchestra played symphony No. 2 in D major Op.36 By Ludwig Van Beethoven. I am learning a piece by Beethoven for my IS now and I could really hear the similarities of how Beethoven wrote for this piece and my piece. For example, there were major dynamic changes and it had lots of call and answers.

In general, I think that this was one of the best concerts I have been to as I got to experience new things like the harpsichord and the pipe organ. The SSO were also very good at team work to build the pieces well and the conductor did a really good job at conductintg.

The first piece in this concert was Symphony No. 101 in D major ‘The clock’. It was a slow and steady piece at the beginning but it became livelier and there were drastic, sudden dynamic changes. Something I liked about this is that the orchestra was breathing together and they changed their dynamics together. The conductor did a very good job controlling the orchestra and keeping them together. It had a steady pulse and it was like the clock ticking just like the title says. There were also key changes to the minor key and then back to major.

The second movement started with the strings playing with a bass that keeps time. There were sudden dynamic changes when there was a call-and-answer. There were descending scales too. The bass line was consistent throughout the whole piece despite all the changes they had. When there are sudden dynamic changes, the timpani played the downbeat together with the orchestra. The scales were played mostly by the strings. It was in duple time. Something I liked about this piece is that the orchestra never rushed and they were in time. The piece ended very lightly.

The third movement started with an upbeat and the timpani was playing the down beat together with the orchestra. They played stronger on the second note of the beginning. There was a woodwind solo. I liked it when they stopped playing then started again as I thought the piece ended but it did not. The pause was after an imperfect cadence. There were parts that stopped with a perfect cadence. It ended quite strongly.

The fourth movement started softly and smoothly. There were many crescendos the end of a phrase starts softly then there will be a sudden dynamic change. The pice ended very strongly.
