E ao longo de nossas vidas h&#225 poucos espa&#231os de indetermina&#231&#227o para que possamos, efetivamente, exercer nossa liberdade. Numa outra parte do livro o autor vai refletir, sempre tendo como fundamenta&#231&#227o te&#243rica pensadores s&#233rios como Bauman, Foucault e outros, a situa&#231&#227o mais atual do regime capitalista (imperialista?). Indica, por exemplo, o quanto o regime citado, muitas vezes de maneira sutil, escraviza e automatiza nossas a&#231&#245es. E nessa medida, traz para o debate duas quest&#245es importantes: consumo e globaliza&#231&#227o. O capitalismo aliado a um sistema pol&#237tico neoliberal, em nome de lucro e produtividade, mascara valores, ideais e projetos. Ou seja, para o mundo contempor&#226neo, de uma maneira mais geral, sucesso est&#225 perversamente aliado a bens de consumo e altos sal&#225rios. O dinheiro em sua faceta mais cruel. E, fatalmente, acaba desconsiderado os valores imateriais como felicidade, bem-estar e todos aqueles que fariam da humanidade uma coletividade mais solid&#225ria, feliz e igualit&#225ria.O dinheiro em sua face mais crua, sabe-se, n&#227o resolve, nem de longe, problemas do ser humano. Lembremos, acima de qualquer coisa, que grande parte de pessoas ricas sofrem de depress&#227o e muitos outros males. Se dinheiro resolvesse todos os problemas n&#227o haveria rico infeliz e insatisfeito. O trabalho na era moderna, mais do que nunca, &#233 uma dimens&#227o importante do ser humano. No entanto, o trabalho deveria ser visto enquanto parte de um projeto social que visasse a igualdade e os bens de consumo melhor distribu&#237dos. Entretanto, ressalta o autor, o que se apresenta em quadros estat&#237sticos &#233 a crescente desigualdade social e, consequentemente, entre os continentes que integram o planeta. Haja vista as denomina&#231&#245es pejorativas, como por exemplo, primeiro mundo, terceiro mundo e outras que refor&#231am a competi&#231&#227o e as camadas mais desiguais que integram 'nosso admir&#225vel mundo novo', como j&#225 disse um grande pensador-escritor.As grandes mudan&#231as sociais e hist&#243ricas trazidas pela internet tamb&#233m s&#227o pensadas pelo autor.
