「洋書は辞書を引かず、訳さず読め」と言われて久しいですが、当会ではこれには大きな問題点が2つあると考えています。

1つは続かないこと、多読は難しいんですね。当会では英検1級レベルの語彙や文法、読解力がないとまず継続ができないと考えております。

2つめは効果が薄いこと。例え同じ文章に出会ってもイラストもない文面から文章の意味を推察するのはまず困難です。50回であってもseagull sea lion sea horseなど簡単な単語でも違いは英文のみでは難しいです。文章の中に違いが説明されることは稀ですし、単語ならまだしも熟語なんて推察は困難。

日本語でイメージや訳をざっくり覚えてしまう方がはるかに楽です。

要は受験勉強で学んだように読みましょう。ということです。何故か、受験まで学んできた効率的な学習法を洋書に触れた途端捨てようと唱える声は大きいですが、当会では

洋書は精読するもの

その結果は当会の英語力向上を見ても明らかです。ただ調べすぎて時間を取られ過ぎるのは本末転倒。やり方は読解力でかわるので当会入会後に確認してみてください。

コツは「読むが読まない」です。

土曜七時の会じゃなく、土曜１９：３０の会らしい。。。

いったい誰がこんな紛らわしい名前にしたのか、飲み会で適当に考えてももっとましになりそう。

さて、昨日書いた学習法ですが、大事な学習法を教えてもらっていたことを忘れていました。

① 言語分析能力（文法能力）
② 音声認識能力
③ 記憶力

の①が絶望的にありません。

要は英語を聞いても理解できないし、まして覚えることなんて全くできない状態。

できる能力を伸ばしていく！ということで会のメンバーにとにかくたくさんインプットしろとアドバイスを頂きました。

（最終的には100万語のインプットをしてアウトプットにつなげることが望ましいとのこと）

30歳からの英語学習は相当きつそうですね、記事を書いていても心が折れそう。

2年間で少しは英語力が伸びたのでしょうか。

I don't know who came up with this confusing name, but I'm sure you'll be able to come up with something better than that in a drinking session.

Well, I wrote about my learning methods yesterday, but I forgot that I had been taught an important learning method.

As you can see in the linked article, there are three elements of foreign language aptitude

(1) Language analysis ability (grammar ability)
(2) Speech recognition ability
3) Memory

I am hopelessly lacking in (1).
In short, I couldn't understand an easy English sentence even if I listened it, much less remember it.
You should improve what you can do! So a member of the group  advised me to input as much as possible.
(Eventually, it is desirable to input a million words and link it to output.)

I think learning English at the age of 30 is quite tough, and I feel like I'm going to lose my heart while writing this article.
I wonder if my English skills have improved a little during the two years.

Learning English from the Age of 30

I joined a club called the Saturday 19:00 Club because I thought it would be nice to be able to speak English. I hope you find it useful.

Recommended English Study Methods for the Saturday 19:00 Club

1. Lower the hurdle as much as possible (do it for one minute)

The most important thing is the time it takes to start and to make it a habit.

2. Sleep for 10 minutes.

If you get tired, sleep or exercise for 10 minutes. Don't divide your study time.

3.Don't make a study time goal.

4.Set aside a day for no study.

It is better to have a no studing day once a week to keep motivated.

It seems to be a good idea. I wonder if that's true. Well, it sounds easy, and I don't have a quota, so I'll give it a try.

My master also introduced me to a study guide called the Higgs graph.

This is written in English, so it sounds real!

Anyway, it says to vocablary, grammar and pronanciation first, probably.

That's how I joined two years ago.
