Coleman Outdoor Resort 2015

Hey all, how is everyone doing? I hope everyone had a great weekend. I had a great weekend The weather in Tokyo was amazing and I enjoyed it going to the Coleman Outdoor Event near Gaienmae It was my first time to go there, so I wasn’t sure about what to expect, but after getting there, I was impressed They had a lot of areas set up for people to try things out, like Reverse bungee jumping, Kayaking, Tightrope walking, Yoga, Towel exercise etc. But just like any event in Tokyo, it was super crowded Luckily my friends and I were able to find an open space on the lawn to set up our mats and enjoy the day. It was crazy hot and I got some serious sun, but that just made the beer taste better. There’s nothing better than a hot day with friends and beer!!
Luke’s Lobster Review

Sometime before Golden Week, a new restaurant/food stand came to Tokyo from NYC. Luke’s Lobster Luke’s Lobster has become quite famous in NYC, so I was excited about it coming to Tokyo. And with any new restaurant coming to Japan from the U.S., there are long, long lines. So I waited until after Golden Week to check it out. So on a sunny Wednesday afternoon, I went to Kats Street in Harajuku and hoped for a small line. Luckily when I arrived there were only a handful of people, so I jumped in line and waited. As I was waiting I looked at the menu and saw that they had 2 sizes of their signature sandwich “The Lobster Roll”. They had a regular for ¥980 and a U.S. size for ¥1580. They had other sandwiches too (shrimp, half and half…etc), but I decided that I should get the signature sandwich; U.S. size. After a quick 20-25 minutes, I had 2 U.S. size sandwiches in my hand

At first sight, I was very impressed with the amount of lobster. There was a lot of lobster!!! But the overall size of the sandwich was disappointing; as this was not any U.S. size sandwich I had ever eaten. It was very small
But I decided to be optimistic, as it looked really delicious. So I sat down to devour the sandwich. I tried a few pieces of lobster from the top first to just taste the lobster and it was good. Not great, but good. In the eastcoast of the U.S. and Canada, Lobster Roll sandwiches are very famous and I have eaten quite a few. The first difference with this lobster roll was that it was using a type of brioche bread instead of the traditional roll. Luckily though, the bread was delicious and I think a good choice for Japan because Japanese love brioche style breads. So I started eating the sandwich and before I knew it, it was gone. Way too small

Overall, the sandwich was good. Not great. The lobster was decent, but a little over-cooked and very under seasoned. The only seasoning on the lobster was celery salt. If the lobster would have more seasoning it could have been much better. And another thing missing was a good sauce. There was far too little sauce on this sandwich. I couldn’t even taste the sauce. So with too little seasoning and basically no sauce, it was a bland sandwich. But not having eaten lobster in ages, I was satisfied I guess. But when I think back to eating Lobster Rolls in Canada and the U.S., it is so crazy delicious that it makes me disappointed that this place couldn’t get it right. Making a sandwich is an art form where the balance of every ingredient and layer is important for a delicious sandwich.

Will I go back? Probably not.

Do I recommend it? I think that if you are near the place, and there are no lines….sure check it out. But there are many better places to eat at in Harajuku and Omotesando in my opinion. Send me an email if you want to know some good places. info@shaillys.com

Keep checking out my blog for more restaurant reviews as I try to eat Japan!

Hello all I hope everyone is having a great week. I was recently on a trip and I was staying at a hotel when I thought about the last time I was on a business trip. I was working for a Japanese company and we had to go to a meeting in Los Angeles. That trip reminds me of how often I hear Japanese people use Japanese English (Waseigo). There are so many Waseigo words in Japan and the worst part is that most people don’t know that it is INCORRECT English. On that trip in Los Angeles, we had to wake up early and one of my colleagues said he was going to call the “Front” and ask for a “Morning Call”. I was a little confused, but I soon realized what he said. He used 2 Japanese English words that confused me. I was able to figure out what he said because I have lived in Japan for a long time, but people in foreign countries might not understand. So it is very important to try and use the correct English in all situations

Japanese English（和製英語）　→　　 English　（英語）

1.
